im certainly no health expert or anything but these are just a few basic things ive picked up on over the years that have helped me feel a lot better
if youre tempted to skip breakfast a lot, just shift all your meals later. its a lot better to have breakfast at noon, lunch at 4, and dinner at 9 than it is to have fewer meals
set regular times where you drink something. if youre bad about remembering to drink, its a lot easier to get into the habit of having a glass of water Every Day right when you wake up, then another one right after lunch, then another when you feed the dog, etc etc
some meds work better with or without food, so do research to figure out which works better for you and stick to that. i find my meds are much more effective if i drink a full glass of water and have a light snack. unless otherwise specified you should probably be having a full glass of water with your meds (not juice or soda and def not alcohol (no judgement. ive been there. but your meds wont work)). avoid foods with citric acid or that are very fatty, because they can soak up or neutralize meds
if youre not good at drinking enough water, or if you drink plenty of water but still feel thirsty, replace some of it with milk, juice, or sports drinks. from some things ive seen, water isnt actually the very best thing to hydrate you
if you have a caffeinated beverage, drink an equal amount of non caffeinated right before or after (same goes for alcohol)
if you dont spend a lot of time outside or it isnt very sunny, vitamin D pills really do wonders for keeping me clear and alert all day. i take mine every day at 3pm and i only have to have one glass of not-strong caffeine in the morning and i feel great all day (after having a lifetime of grogginess). youll have to figure out when the best time for you to take it is (i sleep in late and eat late so i take it around lunch) but when i took it in the morning i would crash really hard in the afternoon. i havent had that problem at all since shifting it
if youre feeling really fuzzy and have a small headache, get some electrolytes in you. i usually go for half a bottle of gatorade or a pickle. i never throw out the pickle juice because even a few sips of that can help (but avoid a ton because there’s so much salt)
on that note, some medical conditions require you to eat more salt. if you have something like POTS or EDS you need a much higher salt to water ratio. if you exercise a lot or live in a hot place where youre sweating you need more salt too. one symptom is irregular heartbeat so if your heart is feeling a little funny try eating something salty
eating more smaller meals makes me feel a lot better than fewer big meals
even a few bites of something is better than skipping. dont feel bad about just eating straight (edible) ingredients if you dont have the spoons to actually prepare something. just get food in your body, even if its just a slice of bread and a cheese stick. yes, even eating chips or a cookie is better than skipping a meal
spicy food helps pain from inflammation and congestion. if you can tolerate it, eating something spicy when you have a cold can really help
again im not really a health expert or anything, these are just very basic tips learned from my own research and experience. i was like chronically unhealthy for a very long time but these things have helped me feel a lot better. if any of these things are just like factually incorrect feel free to add on to the post, but th/nspo or diet people will be blocked on sight
#food cw#health cw#alcohol cw#ask me to tag#im not really going to tag this with tips or anything this is half just so i have these things in the same place#but reblogs are totally fine
