Arriving at the end of the month is the annual event for exhibitors: Cinemacon.

While it is still a ways away, there is some information available about the schedule of events.
March 31st: Sony Pictures is first up with a showcase of their upcoming films. I am guessing their lineup will contain footage and/or mentions of KARATE KID: LEGENDS

, BENEATH THE STORM starring Phoebe Dynevor and Djimon Hounsou, Danny Boyle's 28 YEARS LATER and Nia DeCosta's 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE, the Margot Robbie/Colin Farrell starrer A BIG BOLD BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY, the video game based horror film UNTIL DAWN

, the yet to be titled I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER sequel and the animated sports comedy GOAT produced by Steph Curry.

MORE DETAILS ON THE POSSIBLE LINE-UP UNDER THE CUT
April 1st: LIONSGATE: I am guessing their lineup will consist of footage and/or mentions of: , Joe Carnahan's action film SHADOW FORCE starring Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, The Weeknd's musical psychological thriller starring Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega titled HURRY UP, TOMORROW

; from the JOHN WICK universe, the long-awaited THE BALLERINA starring Ana de Armas

, the delayed SAW X1, the Michael Jackson biopic MICHAEL, Aziz Ansari's directorial debut GOOD FORTUNE starring Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, KeKe Palmer and Sandra Oh, NOW YOU SEE ME 3, actioner MUTINY starring Jason Statham, Annabelle Wallis and Roland Møller; and Paul Fieg's THE HOUSEMAID starring Amanda Seyfriend, Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone
So this movie is just filled with the hottest people alive? I'm there.

Also on April 1st is WB who is in their rebuilding season. What I expect from WB?: A MINECRAFT MOVIE

; another Ryan Coogler/Michael B. Jordan collab, the supernatural period piece SINNERS starring Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld and Jack O'Connell

; a return to the FINAL DESTINATION franchise with FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES, the Brad Pitt/Damson Idris vehicle F1

; Paul Thomas Anderson's ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Benecio del Toro and Teyana Taylor
This is how those five minutes of dating rumours started.

THE CONJURING: LAST RITES (I thought this franchise ended!); Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut THE BRIDE! -the exclaimation mark is not mine. I am not excited about this Bride of Frankenstein tale that stars Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley.

The hybird animated/live action comedy ANIMAL FRIENDS with Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa and Audrey Plaza.; MORTAL KOMBAT 2 with Karl Urban, Lewis Tan and Josh Lawson. the sci-fi film FLOWERVALE STREET starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor; Zach Creggar's horror film WEAPONS starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Benedict Wong and Alden Ehrenreich; and Emerald Fennell's SALTBURN follow-up WUTHERING HEIGHTS starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

April 2nd: religious/family based distributor Angel Studios. I expect the drama THE LAST RODEO starring Neal McDonough and in time for Easter; the animated THE KING OF KINGS.
Also on April 2nd; Universal and Focus Features come to the floor with likely: DROP the horror film from Christopher Landon starring Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar; M3GAN 2.0; the M3GAN spinoff SOULM8TE; the animated THE BAD GUYS 2; and Bob Odenkirk's NOBODY 2

; DOWNTON ABBEY 3; HIM, produced by Jordan Peele, starring Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers (I highly recommend Wither's episode of FX's ATLANTA , ep."Rich Wigga, Poor Wigga".)

; WICKED 2; THE BLACK PHONE 2; FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S 2; HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON starring Mason Thames, Nico Parker (daughter of Thandiwe "Tandie" Newton), Julian Dennison and Gerard Butler (they will show the entire film earlier in the day)

; Wes Anderson's THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME starring Benecio Del Toro, Tom Hanks and Bill Murray; and JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH starring Scarlett Johansson, Maharshala Ali and Jonathan Bailey.

Also on April 2nd: Amazon/MGM. With news that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have stepped back from the James Bond franchise, I expect that there will at least be a mention on if they are actively casting fo the film and a target shooting date.
I expect to hear about the Viola Davis actioner G20 with THE BOYS' Antony Starr as the villain

; sequel to the TNT Classic THE ACCOUNTANT comes THE ACCOUNTANT 2 with Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai Robinson and J.K. Simmons returning. This may also fall under WB's day as they have international distribution rights; A SIMPLE FAVOR sequel ANOTHER SIMPLE FAVOR. This may be also discussed during Lionsgate's presentation as it is a co-production; Luca Guadagnino's AFTER THE HUNT starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield. and Ayo Edebiri; Zachary Levi starrer SARAH'S OIL; the sci-fi film PROJECT HAIL MARY, starring Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller; Timur Bekmambetov's action film MERCY starring Chris Pratt, Annabelle Wallis and Rebecca Ferguson.
As Cinemacon isn't until late March/early April, I expect mention or teaser footage of the mystery comedy THREE BAGS FULL OF SHEEP starring Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Galitzine and Emma Thompson. I expect 2026's Cinemacon will have a full-on show for Galitzine's MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE where he plays He-Man to Jared Leto's Skeletor.

Other possibilities? the announced sequel to READY OR NOT; the comedy-drama RENTAL FAMILY starring Brendan Fraser; the black-comedy THE ROSES (a take on THE WAR OF THE ROSES) starring Oliva Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch; and comedy IS THIS THING ON, written and directed by Bradley Cooper and Will Arnett; starring Arnett and Laura Dern.
April 3rd - last day of Cinemacon: Paramount Pictures is on deck. We definitely know there will be a full court press for Edgar Wright's take on the Arnold Schwarzeneggar film THE RUNNING MAN

; this time starring Glenn Powell with Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo. Powell will also be named Star of the Year at the awards celebration held at the end of Cinemacon.
I also expect: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING, the live-action musical fantasy SMURFS starring Rihanna as Smurfette and Nick Offerman, Amy Poehler, Hannah Wadddingham and Xolo Maridueña

; the Liam Neeson fronted THE NAKED GUN remake costarring Pamela Anderson; Derek Cianfrance crime drama ROOFMAN starring Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst and Ben Mendelsohn; the animated films AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER and THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS.
Closing out the con is Disney and its holdings. I expect the thriller, THE AMATEUR starring Rami Malek; the live-action LILO & STITCH; the animated film ELIO, THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FOUR STEPS; THUNDERBOLTS; FREAKIER FRIDAY; TRON: ARES starring Jared Leto; PREDATOR: BADLANDS starring Elle Fanning; ZOOTOPIA 2; AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH; and Sam Raimi's survival film SEND HELP starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien.

The VAs behind Avatar's voice
I was playing World Tour and for some reason I never really put too much thought into my Avatar's voice, and who the ENG VA was.
And it got me thinking about the other Avatar's voices that made an appearance, and who they were. Surprisingly, I have heard the Eng VAs in different medias before.
Hopefully, this can help people hear what their OCs sound like, instead of hearing bits and pieces from the game.

The Contestants Are Here!
Thank you for your patience, I'm now ready to announce our contestants for the Obscure Character Showdown! There are 300 characters, split up into 6 groups of 50.
Here's how the schedule will work: Day 1 is Group A Round 1 Part 1, Day 2 is Group A Round 1 Part 2, Day 3 is Group B Round 1 Part 1, Day 4 is Group B Round 1 Part 2, Day 5 is Group C Round 1 Part 1, and so on and so forth until we reach Group F Round 1 Part 2, and then the next day we'll fold back over for Group A Round 2. I'm splitting up the rounds because tumblr can interpret posting many polls at once as spamming, and each group contains 25 polls, so. 13 one day, 12 the next.
I expect to start polls by Wednesday, May 31, but I may be a little later than that. I'll keep you updated.
The polls will be tagged with 'obscurecharactershowdown,' 'obscure poll,' and their group letter and round number.
Under the cut is the groups and matchups. Thank you all for your submissions, and I'm sorry if your submission didn't get in! If it was a submission for your OC, a mythological figure, a Real Life Thing, an album character, a commercial character, etc, then you may not be out of the running yet. Be patient, I have something else I'm working out!
Please don't come into my inbox, replies, dms, etc, and tell me that a character I chose isn't actually obscure at all. No one's media experience is universal, and from my own experiences, I picked to the best of my ability.

Looking Ahead to 2025
Now that we are almost a month into the new year, I thought this would be a good time to list the films I am most excited about coming to theaters in 2025. So I present the 25 films I am most excited about coming out this year (in alphabetical order):
28 Years Later
Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland are back 23 years later in this follow-up to 2002's 28 Days Later. Whether 2007's 28 Weeks Later remains canon is still a question.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
The Na'vi are back and so will the audience.
Captain America: Brave New World
Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson is Captain America in this new film co-starring Harrison Ford as President Thunderbolt Ross.
F1
Tron: Legacy and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski takes Brad Pitt around the race track in this sports action drama about Formula One racing.
Fountain of Youth
John Krasinski and Natalie Portman are siblings on the hunt for the Fountain of Youth in this heist adventure from director Guy Ritchie.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina
Spinning out of the John Wick films comes this action thriller starring Ana de Armas that takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.
Good Fortune
Comedian Aziz Ansari directed, wrote, and starred in this comedy alongside Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen.
Jurassic World Rebirth
There will always be dinosaurs. Just ask director Gareth Edwards and Jurassic Park co-writer David Koepp about this newest installment starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.
Materialists
Past Lives writer/director Celine Strong returns with a new film starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans.
Mickey 17
Robert Pattinson stars in this new science fiction black comedy from writer/director Bong Joon-ho.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie return to the world of IMF for this eighth film in the acclaimed series.
Opus
Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich star in this A24 thriller coming in March.
Predator: Badlands
Dan Trachtenberg is back with a new Predator movie. And good news! This one will be in theaters.
Sinners
Ryan Coogler writes and directs this original horror film starring Michael B. Jordan (in two roles!) and Hailee Steinfeld.
Superman
James Gunn kicks off his new DC Studios universe with this new film about the last son of Krypton.
The Accountant 2
Christian Wolff is back just a little after tax season for this sequel to the 2016 breakout hit action thriller also starring Ben Affleck and directed by Gavin O'Connor.
The Bride!
From writer/director Maggie Gyllenhaal comes a new monster movie starring Jessie Buckley as the Bride of Frankenstein and Christian Bale as Frankenstein's monster.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Marvel's first family is back on film with their first Marvel Studios film.
The Life of Chuck
From writer/director Mike Flanagan comes this adaptation of a Stephen King novella starring Tom Hiddleston.
The Running Man
Edgar Wright directs Glen Powell in this Stephen King adaptation.
Thunderbolts*
Marvel Studios is gathering a bunch of anti-heroes from previous films and shows together for this team-up.
Tron: Ares
Return the grid with this standalone threequel starring Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Greta Lee.
Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Film
Paul Thomas Anderson has a new film coming this August starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Regina Hall. What the movie is though? No one knows.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Detective Benoit Blanc is back in a new mystery from writer/director Rian Johnson.
Wicked: For Good
Ready for Wicked: Part Two? Well, here it is. Called something else.
Now for a quick look ahead to 2026, my top picks for that year are Avengers: Doomsday, The Mandalorian & Grogu, Project Hail Mary, a fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film, The Mummy, Supergirl: World of Tomorrow, new films from Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Jordan Peele, JJ Abrams, and Denis Villeneuve and any of the above-mentioned films that get bumped to 2026.
Looking back at the 16 films on my Looking Ahead to 2024 list from last year: I saw 14 either at home or in theaters, one was bumped to 2025, and another lacks a release date that I am hopeful I will see in 2025 and would be at the top of this list if it had a release date. (looking at you Chapter 2).

Wait wait wait. If we’re talking about holo-formers, what are your thoughts on them all? Especially with the new face for Ironhide.
i really only have a few established!
my bumblebee holo-avatar has always been taron egerton
we talked about michael b jordan as jazz, but tbh i've been noodling and i would sell my soul for a trevante rhodes moment — it's good, it's a lil older, a lil wiser
ironhide has rightfully been established by anon as jon bernthal (esp with beard bc wowee) and he must be bleeding/bruised at anu given time
optimus was idris, but i am kinda meh on this. i wanna know who you all imagine him as.
prowl's holoform is based on richard armitage in my fics bc sharp nose is canon
rodimus, despite me not having written for him a ton, has always been a james ransone type in my mind bc chaos
other than that, i think i've left most of it up for our imaginations?

Best Animated Movies on Netflix for a Visual Feast
1. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
Director: Joel Crawford
Cast: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Harvey Guillén, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Wagner Moura

Sequels released over a decade after the first film are always a gamble, but Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was one of multiple films from 2022 (Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water) that actually improved upon its predecessor. Eleven years after the first Puss in Boots, the eponymous rascally cat has now burned through eight of his nine lives on his various adventures, reteaming with Kitty Softpaws in pursuit of the Last Wish, which would restore his lives. Along the way, he tries to outrun Goldilocks — hoping to attain the Last Wish for herself — and a menacing wolf who mysteriously stalks Puss. Like other DreamWorks films post-Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the blend of 2-D and 3-D is striking in its visual texture, particularly in action sequences, but its darkly authentic themes of anxiety and the value of friendship resonate most of all.
2. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017)
EW grade: B+ (read the review)
Director: David Soren
Cast: Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll, Thomas Middleditch, Jordan Peele, Kristen Schaal
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
The wildly popular Captain Underpants book series has kept kids entertained since 1997, but it wasn't until 20 years later that the tighty-whities-clad hero made it to the big screen. The First Epic Movie centers on George and Harold, fourth-grader best friends who create the Captain Underpants comic book and hypnotize their strict principal into becoming the superhero — who doesn't actually have superpowers. Kid-friendly without being too mind-numbing to their parents, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie has "charm to spare," praises EW's critic, noting it works "mostly because it never tries to be more or less than what it is." It also spawned a series on Netflix, The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, which ran from 2018 to 2020.
3. The Angry Birds Movie (2016)
EW grade: B (read the review)
Director: Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly
Cast: Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage
While it may be damning with faint praise to give credit to The Angry Birds Movie for not being a total disaster...it really could've been much worse. Based on the wildly popular app of the same name, the film follows Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis), a talking bird who comes to suspect that his island's new pig inhabitants have malicious intent. Your mileage may vary depending on your tolerance for punny/juvenile humor, but as EW's review notes, the film "delivers a mildly diverting mix of winky meta-jokes and moral lessons, cannily aimed at both the next generation of tiny consumers and their more sophisticated parents.
4. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
Director: Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson
Cast: Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Burn Gorman, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton
Codirectors Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson transport the classic story of Pinocchio to World War II-era Italy in this meticulously crafted stop-motion animated film. Following the death of his young son, carpenter Geppetto cuts down a tree and carves a wooden boy, who is subsequently brought to life and dubbed Pinocchio. As the boy ventures to the outside world, he is met with dark forces that attempt to use and corrupt him, all against the backdrop of Benito Mussolini's reign as leader of Fascist Italy. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is a darker take on the tale compared to the well-known Disney adaptation (which also received a far-inferior live-action remake in 2022). From the fraught setting to the detailed creature designs, del Toro and Gustafson create a distinct world while providing valuable life lessons to viewers of all ages. The film became the first Netflix production to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
5. The Sea Beast (2022)
Director: Chris Williams
Cast: Karl Urban, Zaris-Angel Hator, Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
A brave orphan girl named Maisie stows away aboard a ship of sea monster hunters in The Sea Beast, helmed by Big Hero 6's co-director Chris Williams. The sailors are renowned for their hunting abilities, though their status is threatened by their society's admiral, who wishes to replace them. They go out on one last hunt to track down a powerful sea beast called the Red Bluster, but, as Maisie soon discovers, the creatures may not have the kind of malicious intent for which they've come to be known. With dazzling colors, fast-paced thrills, and classical storytelling, it's easy to see why The Sea Beast became Netflix's most watched animated original film as of October 2022, according to the streamer. The film also earned a Best Animated Feature nomination at the Oscars, following a wave of critical praise.

[ad_1] DC Studios co-chairman, James Gunn defended the delay of 'Batman 2' and called it a common practice in the making of sequels. The director has defended the choice by recounting the gap between the sequels of hit films like Alien, Incredibles, Terminator, Avatar, Top Gun and others. Warner Bros. announced the new release date of 'Batman 2', recently.Marking a postponement of one year from its original release date, the film is now slated to release in theatres worldwide on October 1, 2027, reported Deadline. James Gunn justified the delay and wrote, "To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels," he wrote. "7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3." According to the report of Deadline, Gunn confirmed the move was writing-related after the announcement. He wrote, "Sure. Yes, it is true. The only reason for the delay is there isn't a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films." The vacant release date by 'Batman 2' has been taken over by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's untitled project with Tom Cruise. With the adoption of a day-and-date release plan on Max, Warner Bros. experienced tremendous success with the 2022 gritty Robert Pattinson film 'Batman' following the epidemic. As per the report by Deadline, the film earned USD 369.3 million domestically and USD 772 million internationally. In the same universe as Colin Farrell's The Penguin, the third-most-watched HBO or Max premiere season worldwide, the film gave rise to a Max series. Warner Bros. has also made some additional tweaks to its upcoming release slate. It swapped the openings of Bong Joon Ho's 'Mickey 17' and Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners.' Now, 'Mickey 17,' which stars Robert Pattinson will open on March 7, 2025, while 'Sinners,' which re-teams Coogler with Michael B. Jordan, will shift back to April 18, 2025. [ad_2] Source link
