Meet cute prompt: Fioharo and Avadi, first prompt?
To say Avadi wasn’t flustered would be a lie.
Because here she was, drinking tea out of a thermos like anerd, and that girl was sitting onher motorcycle as usual, completely lost in her book. She had mastered the artof looking nonchalantly badass—her worn-out sweatshirt might as well have beena leather jacket.
Honestly, Avadi was hopeless. Therewas no way someone like that girl—with her straight nose and tan, freckled skin—wouldpay even a passing glance at some nervous, chubby girl in the same handwarmersshe had since middle school. It just wasn’t likely.
So, if she wanted to find out whatbook she was reading, she had to do it herself.
Avadi slowly crept up to her, takingperiodic sips from her thermos and trying to look nonchalant, before eyeing thecover of her book. It was rather simple-looking: a kidney dish on a whitebackground, with a scalpel and rifle lying crossed under it. Leaning in, shecould make out the title: Swords and Scalpels, with a smaller TheLife and (something) of the—
“Can I help you?”
Avadi jumped back, noticing thatthe girl was looking at her holy shit stay calm stay calm. “I-I,” shesaid, tensing up, “I was just interested in your book, that’s all.”
The girl grunted, shifting herhand and flashing her the cover. Swords and Scalpels: The Life and Service ofthe Rebellion’s Most Daring Surgeon.
“What’s it about?” she asked, thenwinced. Obviously, it was about a Rebel surgeon. Nice fucking going,Bondara.
To her surprise, she got oneanyway. “Atia Leto, heard about her?”
“Yeah, I know her!” she said, eyesshining. “My grandma worked with her back in the day, and my mom never reallymet her, but they were both in the Rebellion, so—” She stopped. “I’m sorry, Ishould shut up.”
“It’s fine,” said the girl, whohadn’t turned back to her book. “I can lend it to you when I’m finished, if youwant?”
Avadi furiously nodded. “Thatwould be great, thanks!”
“No problem.” The girl stuck out thehand not holding on to the book. “I’m Fioharo, by the way.”
“Avadi,” she said, shaking it. “I’llsee you around.”
