You know, I might not mention it a lot, but I’m actually a pretty big Sucker for Love fan. So to commemorate that, I decided to make a meme based on the first two games:

Crit Role Miniature Rollout: C3E58
Escape From The Past
With Andrew Harshman
An analysis of the minis used on CR.
This episode with have more red lighting, more red flocking, and the continued use of many a custom player character mini (as can be expected from Critical Role guest episodes).
Grab ya character sheets and finest math rocks, it's time for Crit Role Miniature Rollout Campaign 3 Episode 58!
Woo-hoo-hoo, now this is a dandy multi-dimensional battle map. Loving this color scheme. Not only is there custom overhead lighting, the color scheme is also on the autumn foliage, the mushrooms on the trees, and the red fleshy set piece miniature. -and of course the red Dwarven Forge Dungeons of Doom wall pillars.
Manufacturing-wise, the dungeon tiles are Dwarven Forge, the bushes are Monster Fight Club, and the trees are from Printable Terrain.
Best and Worst Mini of the Ep
The coveted DOUBLE AWARD of Best Mini and Worst Mini of the episode goes to the Greater Star Spawn Emissary. It earns the best miniature for its Cthulhu mythos theming and truly immense table presence.
It is a very striking model sculpt amongst other striking sculpts. The Wizkids Ravenloft set is full of cool pieces.
And it wins the award for Worst Mini because it's downright gross. Like, did they have to use so many snouts? One or two dog snouts I can understand, but nearly a dozen?? Good grief. Too many doggo snoots. It is clearly inspired by the 80s remake of The Thing.
Very good inspiration, but also very gross inspiration.
See ya next sesh!

2023 Favorite Reads
Now that 2023 is coming to a close, I wanted to share my 5 favorite reads of this year
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell - This book has easily become an all time favorite. Since I've read it, it's been my go-to when people ask for book recommendations.
No idea how Mitchell turned the tale of a Dutch trader making his fortune in 1799 Dejima into a horror story, but here we are, and we are blessed for it. Please read this book. Don't look up any spoilers and enjoy the dawdling first act where our protagonist simps after the daughter of a samurai and struggles to understand Japanese society and colonial corruption. When you hit The Mountain Fastness, all the clues and major players come into play, and you will not be able to put this book down.
My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante - I slept on Ferrante until January of this year. Despite many recommendations, I was not into the premise of two young girls growing up in the Italian countryside.
Under any other author, this book would've been boring, but Ferrante's prose is one of a kind. She perfectly captures the spirit of being a woman whose future is dictated by a society that expects girls to fit into a certain mold. I highly recommend this book. The writing is so great, you'll be deeply invested in whether young Lila can enroll in middle school after 40 pages.
(The only downside is the unintended (?) queer-baiting!!! The exquisite relationship between two girls that love each other more than life itself is explored in depth and is what makes this book so magical. The author depicts them hetero-coded, but still. STILL. It was cruel to sprinkle in declarations of love and nude scenes then marry them off to men!)
A Country You Can Leave by Asale Angel-Ajani - A coming-of-age story that spotlights the hopelessness and humor that comes with growing up in the impoverished, neglected patches of America.
The book is nonchalant in its depictions of the horrors - which is a nod to how casually we dismiss the needs and struggles of our countrymen. It feels authentic, like it's written from someone that sees our failures, knows how shit it all is, and is trying anyway. Everyone can enjoy this, and anyone that is part of a diaspora within a neoliberal, multiracial society will be able to relate deeply to this book.
The Skin and Its Girl by Sarah Cypher - Eugenides' Middlesex but if Cal were a queer Palestinian woman with royal blue skin. It seems like a strange hook, but our protagonist is 'The Girl' in The Skin and Its Girl. Or is she?
The entire book is setting up for the twist, which is somehow unexpected (impressive considering how in-your-face the hints are!), satisfying, and wonderfully poetic.
Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer - This book is a masterclass in horror writing and story pacing. Every scene and sentence felt deliberately crafted to evoke a particular feeling, or to pay homage to a specific trope in horror writing. The book smoothly bounces from thriller, psychological horror, mystery, and whatever the hell is going on in Call of Cthulhu. Also, is there a word for the enjoyment of being gaslit? At some point, I was questioning my understanding of book's reality, and I was loving it.

Writeblr Intro
About Me
Sarah (she/her)
23
queer
and my main blog is @aestatismors
and I have joint writerly sideblog @wild-daffodils
I generally write what I'll call vague horror and fantasy. I dabble a little bit in everything. Mainly for the adult age range. I am open to tag gams and asks in general. Hell, you can just message me for whatever too.
My WIPS
I have two main wips, but Autumn Wip is the priority. I also have two duet campaigns that I run that I will mention here and there. I dabble in some rps and fanfics too and at most I may vague post about them or mention a character or two.
By The Hands (Autumn Wip)
Vague horror about how people help and hurt each other simultaneously and about a possibly cursed book that has to do with the change of seasons.
Large cast of characters, queer, dark; deeply inspired by house of leaves and s.
Sinterfae (WIP^2)
High fantasy about three unlikely characters coming to together in a word of magic and vampires.
This one is new so not much is fleshed out yet, but it is queer and dark as usual here.
Crest
Dnd/pathfinder inspired campaign forced on the outlaw of magic and gods and the length the gods will go to achieve justice.
House Of Unrest
Call of Cthulhu inspired campaign about a small town where nothing is as it seems. A disappearance of a local young woman from a hike in a place she knew better than most leads to a lack of investigation from the townsfolk.

Autumn Reading Challange
My favorite season of the year has arrived! With pumpkin-flavored cookies and flavored green teas and black turtlenecks matched with jackets, it's time for a new reading list. I didn't have much success in the summer, that's why I hope that everything will go better in the autumn. I tried to choose books that keep the atmosphere specific to the spooky season, but I'm not a fan of modern horror, so my selection is more towards mystery, drama, gloomy, spleen.
I will soon start my last year of my master's degree, so I am returning to an old passion of mine, philosophy. I tend to immerse myself too much in work for whole months, so I work with myself now to make reading my quiet moment that I need every day. Wish me luck!

Finally, you are the first and the last person who incited me watch series.
Nobody didn’t succeed 😅.
And I loved it, my preference is Skins of course 😉.
Why ? Because watching a series is for me very chronophage, series eats the time 🕰️, life is time, one time the present is dead , it’s from the past, we cannot travel in the time, the future doesn’t exist ( because it is in the present we build it ). So it’s very rare for me to watch a new series. I let it to my teenage, and to my periods where I was like a ghost this addiction, this tendance because life is so short.
When I was younger with video games, anime, manga, the series was a part of my life, and since then I am a man, I afraid to sacrifice my time with it.
Except every series about Zombies ( like every movie about the same subject, i ve got a reason , and a very good reason), Big Bang Theory, and a story of a American black family in 50’s who is confronted with a Cthulhu Myth ( HP. Lovecraft ) and the eternal : Little house 🏡 🥰 of course.
But i stay open to watch a new serie from your choice 😜.
i can council movie, I watch so many movies since long time ago, because I love Art, and the fruits of the 7th art .
This autumn or this winter i ll watch again Skins , one more time, it’s certainly… thinking about you, it’s sure too.

Pics: Pot Luck!
1. Okay, this is an example of Cthulhu being more famous than HPL himself!
The title is quite incorrect...
These aren't "Cthulhu's Monsters!!"
Actually, Cthulhu has only his Spawn to his name...
The proper title should read "Lovecraftian Monsters."
2. A great looking cover for an important book.
"Survival lies inside of its pages."
3. Indescribable?!
Really?!!
I don't think so...
At least, not anymore.
4. What Howard had in mind when writing "Rats in the Walls."
Where, I think, the narrator flips out - due to his sensitive state of mind when it came to his ancestors' 'prestige.'
Something that even a good cat can't cure...
Just think of this as a map to all of the action.
5. This is a collection of stories that Lovecraft didn't write!!
Rather, these tall tales helped inspire HPL'S own works & literary genre.
6. Here are stories solely inspired by Howard's literary works.
Lansdale is an excellent writer - in a multitude of genres!
7. Oates, another great author, picks her favorite Lovecraftian tales.
With an introduction by Stephen "Storyteller" King!!
8. Old collection of Howard's works. With a dissolving head - right out of "Herbert West, Reanimator(?)"
9. The cutest image that soon needs to become a plushie!!
Cthulhu's adventures when It was just a young thing...
10. Lovecraftian emojis!
YES!!
I've never needed something so much!
Potluck: Quotes & Biography Notes.
1. "I wish I was still an atheist."
"Believing I was born into a harsh, un- caring cosmos - in which my existence was a random roll of the dice."
"(That) I was destined to die & rot & then be gone forever - was infinitely more comforting than the truth."
2. "When we graduate from child- hood..., we're thrown into this con- fusing... miasma of life, filled with social & career problems, all with branching choices & no correct answers."
3. "I have looked upon all that the universe... holds of horror... Even the skies of Spring & the flowers of Summer must ever afterward be poison to me."
4. "On many occasions, ...the curious atmospheric effects enchanted me vastly; ...including a strikingly vivid mirage - in which distant bergs became the battlements of un- imaginable cosmic castles."
5. Lovecraft believed that Teutonic, Anglo-Saxon 'races' ("Aryans") were superior to other peoples.
Howard saw Italians & Chinese as having different but, 'valuable' cultures - that should be preserved - by keeping them separate!
HPL thought America could absorb small numbers of non-Aryans - provided they adopted the 'dominant' culture.
Lovecraft saw large scale immigration as a disaster & antithetical to progress.
6. Howard saw Blacks & Australian aboriginies as biologically inferior to all other 'races!'
HPL believed these peoples lacked the inborn capacity to create any sort of a civilization.
Lovecraft viewed the "color line" with approval, since it supposedly prevented 'mongrelization,' the sexual relations between whites & blacks.
7. Howard lived long enough to see the rise of Hitler, whom HPL thought was a "clown."
Lovecraft even criticized the Nazis for being "crude."
Yet, Howard was an early fan of Hitler - until the Nazis attacked HPL'S beloved England!!
After that, Lovecraft couldn't take his words back fast enough!
8. "In the autumn of 1904, I mingled with the world once more... entering the Hope Street High School."
"Here I was confronted with cosmopolitanism."
"It was there that I formed my... 'aversion' to the Semitic 'race.'"
"The Jews were brilliant in... class... But, their ideals &... manners coarse."
9. "Among the English, Germans & Americans, a Jew is a Jew & is (not) to be (mistaken) with the dominant people amongst whom he dwells."
10. "I think of racial combinations as chemical reactions... Certain stocks have greater (assimilation skills) than others..."
"... The French population is... more receptive to alien blood than... our colder... Teutonic stock."
End.

end of year book tag
(I found this tag in a youtube video by Sophia Reads Books)
Are there any books that you started this year that you still need to finish? Yeahhhhh you could say that. There are a few I'm currently reading and hoping to finish by the end of the month (rereads for Dorian Gray and Summer Sons, and first time read of The Kill Order) but my main, main goal is to finish War and Peace - I hope to read one giant classic a year, and I managed Les Mis last year, so I am desperately working on finishing W&P.
Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year? The Adventures of Miss Petitfour by Anne Michaels is so, so sweet, and is a lovely little fall book. Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi is a winter book that I'd also recommend.
Is there a new release you're still waiting for? I don't keep up on what books are going to be released, but I do want to read Dark Heir by C.S. Pacat (yes, I know it's already out, but I rarely buy books I haven't read, and I haven't come across it for free yet).
What are three books you want to read before the end of the year? The Call of Cthulhu, The Silmarillion (reread), and The Ethical Slut.
Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year? If I get around to reading Dark Heir, there's some potential there, but for right now my favorite book fo the year is Summer Sons, and I doubt anything will beat that.
Have you already started making reading plans for next year? I have!! I'm planning on reading only two types of books next year: classics, and books I've already read. My goal is to almost exclusively reread books that I enjoyed previously, and I'm so, so excited for it.
Not part of the tag, but - a list of some of the best books I read this year:
Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke American Gods by Neil Gaiman Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern How to Betray a Dragon's Hero by Cressida Cowell The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi Dark Rise by C.S. Pacat In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake The True Bastards by Jonathan French Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones Life of Pi by Yann Martel The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo Babel by R.F. Kuang The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna She is a Haunting by Trang Thanh Tran
