How Do Salvage Yards for Cars Work?
Salvage yards for cars play a vital role in the recycling and disposal of old, damaged, or non-functional vehicles. These yards are essential for reducing waste, saving resources, and offering affordable auto parts to those looking for a budget-friendly way to repair their cars. But how exactly do they operate? Let’s break down the process.
What is a Salvage Yard?
A salvage yard, also known as an auto parts recycling yard, is a facility where old or damaged vehicles are taken apart, and any usable parts are recovered. Cars that have been in accidents, are no longer operational, or are simply outdated are sent to these yards for processing. Salvage yards give new life to car parts that would otherwise go to waste, providing an eco-friendly solution to automotive disposal.
The Process of Salvaging a Car
When a car arrives at a salvage yard, the vehicle goes through a systematic process to ensure that all usable components are carefully recovered while hazardous materials are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
1. Vehicle Arrival and Inspection
The first step in the process is inspecting the vehicle. Salvage yards accept cars in various conditions, ranging from vehicles with minor damage to those that are completely wrecked. A team of experts inspects the car to determine which parts can be salvaged and reused.
Cars with usable components are categorized for dismantling, while cars beyond repair are typically sent for metal recycling.
2. Dismantling the Vehicle
Once a vehicle has been inspected, it is carefully dismantled. This is the most crucial step in the process, as it involves removing all valuable parts from the car. Parts like engines, transmissions, radiators, and even smaller components such as mirrors or door handles can be salvaged and sold.
During dismantling, fluids such as oil, brake fluid, and coolant are also drained and safely disposed of or recycled. Hazardous materials like mercury switches and lead-acid batteries are removed to avoid environmental damage.
3. Storing and Selling Recycled Auto Parts
After the parts have been removed from the vehicle, they are cleaned, tested, and cataloged. Salvage yards typically store these parts in warehouses or on shelves, making them available to customers. These parts are sold at a fraction of the price of new ones, offering a cost-effective solution for those looking to repair or upgrade their vehicles.
Some salvage yards even list their inventory online, allowing customers to find the auto parts they need from the comfort of their homes. This convenience has made it easier for car owners to access affordable replacement parts.
4. Vehicle Crushing and Metal Recycling
Once all usable parts have been removed, the remaining structure of the car, which consists mostly of metal, is crushed. The crushed metal is then sent to recycling facilities, where it is melted down and repurposed for other uses. This step is essential in reducing the environmental impact of automotive waste, as it prevents large amounts of scrap metal from ending up in landfills.
Recycling the metal helps conserve natural resources and reduces the need for mining raw materials, which is often an energy-intensive process.
Benefits of Salvage Yards for Cars
Salvage yards offer several benefits, not only for individuals but also for the environment. By participating in auto parts recycling yards, salvage yards help reduce the demand for new parts, conserve resources, and minimize waste. Let’s explore the key benefits:
1. Affordability
Salvage yards allow customers to purchase used car parts at a much lower cost than new parts. This is particularly helpful for individuals looking to repair their vehicles on a budget. The availability of used parts helps keep repair costs down without sacrificing quality.
2. Environmental Sustainability
Salvage yards play a significant role in promoting sustainability by recycling auto parts. Reusing components reduces the need to manufacture new parts, conserving energy and raw materials. Additionally, the process of safely disposing of hazardous materials ensures that harmful chemicals do not contaminate the environment.
3. Reducing Waste
Every vehicle that is processed in a salvage yard means less waste going into landfills. The systematic recovery of parts and metals prevents unnecessary disposal and extends the lifespan of many automotive components.
Who Benefits from Salvage Yards?
Salvage yards cater to a diverse group of individuals, including:
Car owners looking for budget-friendly parts for their vehicles.
Mechanics and repair shops who need affordable replacement parts for their clients.
Car enthusiasts searching for rare or discontinued components.
In addition, salvage yards are a valuable resource for the environment, helping to promote recycling and resource conservation on a large scale.
How to Find the Right Salvage Yard
If you’re looking for a salvage yard to purchase parts or dispose of an old vehicle, it’s important to do some research. Many salvage yards offer online catalogs, so you can check their inventory before visiting. Some may even allow you to browse the yard in person to find the parts you need.
Make sure to choose a salvage yard that follows environmentally friendly practices and complies with local regulations for the disposal of hazardous materials.
Conclusion
In summary, salvage yards are an essential part of the automotive recycling industry. They help to recycle used auto parts, offer affordable replacement parts, and promote environmental sustainability. By dismantling vehicles and recovering usable components, salvage yards help reduce waste and conserve resources, making them a crucial player in the effort to create a more sustainable future.

Once you've been a tourist to a place, you gain a sort of common language with other folks who have been there. If you want to make fast friends with someone, the best idea is to figure out if you've been to the same place and then start talking about it. For me, that place is junkyards, because that's the only place I go.
Visiting distant junkyards is often both pleasure and business for me. On long road trips, I like to unwind by surrounding myself with the rusty corpse of industrial automation. It's convenient, then, that I'm forced to visit nearly every junkyard I see on my travels, in order to get parts to keep the car I drove there going. In other words, I've seen a lot of junkyards.
All this means that when I meet another bad-car weirdo, we can instantly bond about their home junkyard.
"I loved how the forklift operator has that deft touch, didn't even collapse the frame rails on that mouldy '87 Bronco," I chirp.
"Oh, that thing has been there forever. You should have seen it, they put a hearse next to it once and the damn thing was stripped to the bone a day later," you remark, instantly warming to my bullshit and potentially letting me look at your hoard of parts and tools.
The only time this went wrong was in Ohio. In Ohio, it seems, the locals have their "favourite" junkyards. It's like a sports-team thing. They won't go to a rival yard, even if it has the exact part they need. I didn't know this before I piped off to a dude visiting my local junkyard, who it turns out was from Ohio. Once he realized that I had only been to Cuthbertson's AAA Auto Wreckers and never even set foot in his beloved Elmonston's AAAA Car Recyclers, he never spoke to me again, and I also didn't get a chance to ask him if he had seen any Honda CR-V picnic tables when he was down in that corner of the yard.
Outside of people from Ohio, though, I would say this is a good strategy to follow in life. Even if you don't get any parts out of the experience, you get to meet another strange gearhead, and enjoy a moment of kinship together, sitting in a junkyard full of other people's once-treasures, reflecting on how the passage of time corrodes everything beneath it. And also, sometimes they tell you where to get good tacos after you get that damn transmission out.

In a roundabout way, I do think leaving auto parts was part of the “greater” plan, if there is one. I know that it’s silly resolve, but maybe that’s simply part of forging bonds with gods - to find meaning in life’s weather.
At the end of the day, hopefully the next four years will be easier than expected, but I’m not counting on that. Autozone already announced they will be passing tariffs on to the customer (despite incredible profit margins already - ask me how I know) and I can only imagine that where I used to work, though a different umbrella company, would have it affect the employees as well. I already knew in 2020, when I took a layoff, that going back would mean less sales and translate to less income (half my income was commission-based) just because of the pandemic . And as we’ve seen over the last four years, people aren’t spending money.
Aside from all the other horrific social issues that were and are present in such jobs, this only seals the deal that it was never about helping people and it would never be something fulfilling for me.
Art is something I can do that beings happiness. I can keep building community where we need it. I can make my prices accessible because I recycle as much as possible. Tariffs will still affect me as an artist, but the difference between me and a corporation is that I won’t be putting necessities at risk of being out of reach and because I just need to stay alive, not become a millionaire.
It’s not much, but I do think leaving the corporate world, even if for my own health, was a new path opening for me to keep doing what I love in a way that honors what I believe in. It’s a privilege, even if it’s not a gold mine. I’m not sure I have the energy to do everything I want to, but I hope I can bring some happiness and comfort in the coming days at least.

Owners of Spotify's soon-to-be-bricked Car Thing device are begging the company to open source the gadgets to save some the landfill. Spotify hasn't responded to pleas to salvage the hardware, which was originally intended to connect to car dashboards and auxiliary outlets to enable drivers to listen to and navigate Spotify.
Spotify announced this week that it's bricking all purchased Car Things on December 9 and not offering refunds or trade-in options. On a support page, Spotify says:
We're discontinuing Car Thing as part of our ongoing efforts to streamline our product offerings. We understand it may be disappointing, but this decision allows us to focus on developing new features and enhancements that will ultimately provide a better experience to all Spotify users.
Spotify has no further guidance for device owners beyond asking them to reset the device to factory settings and “safely” get rid of the bricked gadget by “following local electronic waste guidelines.”
The company also said that it doesn’t plan to release a follow-up to the Car Thing.
Early Demise
Car Thing came out to limited subscribers in October 2021 before releasing to the general public in February 2022.
In its Q2 2022 earnings report released in July, Spotify revealed that it stopped making Car Things. In a chat with TechCrunch, it cited “several factors, including product demand and supply chain issues.” A Spotify rep also told the publication that the devices would continue to “perform as intended,” but that was apparently a temporary situation.
Halted production was a warning sign that Car Thing was in peril. However, at that time, Spotify also cut the device’s price from $90 to $50, which could have encouraged people to buy a device that would be useless a few years later.
Car Thing's usefulness was always dubious, though. The device has a 4-inch touchscreen and knob for easy navigation, as well as support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice control. But it also required users to subscribe to Spotify Premium, which starts at $11 per month. Worse, Car Thing requires a phone using data or Wi-Fi connected via Bluetooth in order to work, making the Thing seem redundant.
In its Q1 2022 report, Spotify said that quitting Car Thing hurt gross margins and that it took a 31 million euro (about $31.4 million at the time) hit on the venture.
Open Source Pleas
Spotify's announcement has sent some Car Thing owners to online forums to share their disappointment with Spotify and beg the company to open source the device instead of dooming it for recycling centers at best. As of this writing, there are more than 50 posts on the Spotify Community forums showing concern about the discontinuation, with many demanding a refund and/or calling for open sourcing. There are similar discussions happening elsewhere online, like on Reddit, where users have used phrases like “entirely unacceptable” to describe the news.
A Spotify Community member going by AaronMickDee, for example, said:
I'd rather not just dispose of the device. I think there is a community that would love the idea of having a device we can customize and use for other uses other than a song playback device. Would Spotify be willing to maybe unlock the system and allow users to write/flash 3rd party firmware to the device?
A Spotify spokesperson declined to answer Ars' questions about why Car Thing isn't being open sourced and concerns around e-waste and wasted money.
Instead, a company rep told Ars, in part: “The goal of our Car Thing exploration in the US was to learn more about how people listen in the car. In July 2022, we announced we’d stop further production and now it’s time to say goodbye to the devices entirely.” I followed up with Spotify's rep to ask again about making the device open source but didn't hear back.
At this point, encouraging customers to waste nearly $100 on a soon-obsolete device hasn't resulted in any groundbreaking innovations or lessons around “how people listen in the car.” In their initial response, Spotify's rep pointed me to a Spotify site that searches Spotify's newsroom for “how to listen to Spotify in the car.” One of the top posts is from 2019 and states that “if your car has an AUX or USB socket, using a cable is probably one of the fastest ways to connect by using your phone.”
As for Spotify, using customer dollars for company-serving learning experiences isn't the best business plan. And for regular users, it's best to avoid investing in an unproven hardware venture from a software company.
As Redditor Wemie1420 put it:
Doesn’t feel great that there is literally no alternative other than trashing it. Feels like we’re being punished for supporting them. Dissuades me from buying anything Spotify puts out in the future. I feel like there would be some way to approach this without being like, ‘yeah we’re done. Just throw it out it’s a waste of money now.’

Guilt & Loss
Bad weather had cancelled Gordon's train, and he sat fuming in a siding at Tidmouth. Before they left, Gordon's crew parked him in the coach shed. It kept him dry for the most part, but he was still cold. "Damn this weather," he said, "the snow isn't even that deep. I've pulled the express through worse."
Suddenly, there was a loud crash and puffing, and Thomas shot past Gordon roughly shunting some (lucky non-sentient) trucks and vans. "BASTARDS!" Thomas screamed. "Genocidal maniacs! Fools! Arrogant idiots!" he shouted. Then Gordon heard something else, crying, and it looked like his ally needed someone to talk to.
"Thomas!" Gordon called out. "My good fellow, your boiler will freeze out there. Come join me in this nice shed."
Thomas froze, but he slowly and silently reversed next to Gordon. The big engine peeked into Thomas's cab, finding it empty. "Drive yourself, hmm?" he questioned. "Must be careful doing that. You could hurt yourself."
"Why me?" Thomas interrupted, but Gordon knew what he meant immediately.
"Because you're a lucky little Thomas. It may not seem like it now, but... you are." Thomas didn't respond.
"If I may, I didn't realize you had any siblings." Thomas shot Gordon a glare that looked like a mix of dread and anger.
Gordon decided to choose his next words very carefully, and he smiled. "It is good to see you again, 1034. Always good to see an LNER engine these days."
"I was a J72," Thomas croaked, tears hitting his running board. "They're all dead," he sobbed.
Gordon sat with the old soldier in solidarity. "You know, one of my sisters, she was so annoying. Only I had the patience for her. But her crew was so fed up with her, that the works rebuilt her with an auto-stoker. They made her fully autonomous and let her drive herself just because she was annoying." Thomas laughed
Gordon chuckled. "I wish they did that with Great Northern. He always was yammering on about proper procedures. My younger siblings would purposely break the smallest of rules just to annoy him."
Thomas cheered up at this. "How'd you figure it out, Gordon?"
"I had my reservations after you 'died,' but Edward wouldn't speak about you, so I assumed you died. But then this little blue tank engine comes rolling out of Crovan's Gate, and at first, I simply thought they recycled your parts. But I would overhear you and Edward, and it slowly fell in place. You used past tense too much in your early days."
"Does anyone else know?"
"Doubtful. Henry was still on odd jobs, and James was too self-conscious to have noticed. Only me, Edward, and Sir Topham, as far as I'm aware."
Thomas yawned. "Mmhm, good, good..."
"Hmph, sleep well, little Thomas. Sleep well."
----------------‐-------------------------‐–----------
Gordon isn't an asshole all the time just most of it
It's nice to see Gordon be a role model for Thomas someone he can talk to
Yes engines can drive themselves this will kinda be a plot point in the main fic and yes this is going to be a fic I just need to bang out the rest of the timeline I'm in 57 rn
(This story takes place in 1964)

Ok so I want to talk about my whole Split Spark thing I need to start working on but haven’t because I can figure out we’re to start but here we go
The first thing my brain started with is scramble city with was a combiner toy line with the Protectobots, the Aerial bots, the Stunticons, and the Combaticons. Though I decided to also and the constucticons because they were the first and some of the most recognizable combiners so why not
In this universe scramble city is a giant super weapon combining all of these combiners
The Split Spark part coming in on how their made
While the first Cybertronians came from splitting from the all Spark ones from other generations can be split off from other Cybertronians and with a partner they can both be split off and fuse together to make a new Spark though this method is unpopular because sparks from the all Spark is considered more pure and over time a lot of people forgot about this method
Another thing with the Split Spark is Cybertrons connection to earth threw unicron. Unicron and Primus used to be one but they split Unicron being Earth or chaos and Primus being Cybertron or Order
Now getting to more character specific thing this is in the aligned continuity of transformers which means blades from Rescue bots is the same blades from the Protectobots
When it comes to family
Optimus and Megatron had 2 kid being Heatwave and Starscream but then Optimus became a prime and got the matrix and because the primes looked down on family and close emotional bonds see them as a weakness suppressed Optimus memories of his family this was the final straw for Megatron and the war started Megatron keeping Starscream and giving Heatwave to the rescue bots
Once Megaton figures out they lost Heatwave he goes on a rampage and kills all the rescue bots
Back with Optimus, Ratchet was placed in charge of making the first auto bot combiner team but getting sparks from the all Spark wouldn’t merge as well and was highly unstable so they decided to use the split Spark method aka the recycle method instead because then they could use a gelslat bond to keep the combiner together but without a partner the spark splitting would take to much Spark which is we’re OP comes in
Him and Ratchet have known each other for a while now and as leader decided to give some of his Spark to this project. In honor of that they made the cast for the leader of the Protectobots have physically similarities to Optimus though emotionally not really being his son.
Ratchet was the only one that was like a father or mom to them even though as they grew up they started seeing him less because of they training they had to do because of the war
The Protectobots were actually made on earth as a collaborative project with humans and Cybertronians but during an accident, because of a then more violent blades, Defensore lost his right arm and Blades had to be sent back to cybertron for fixing and extra training under the rescue bots his last mission before quitting the rescue bots all together being the sigma 17 because him and chase were friends so he wanted his last recuse mission to be with him
When Blades got back on earth and got a helicopter alt mode again this triggered the trauma of losing his last team, his brothers, and because of this trauma and his connection to earth and by proximity Unicron it messed with his personality and pretty much made his personality the opposite of what it was, Chase not knowing because he didn’t know Blades had been on earth let alone that he’s before had a fight alt mode, didn’t question the sudden change
That’s it for this post but I most likely will make a part 2

How To Get Highest Benefit For Damaged Cars: Cash For Car In Brisbane
Having a car that is in a bad way can be quite a heel. It uses your property in a worthless way, it does not appreciate, and finding a buyer willing to accept one that has been wrecked is almost impossible. Getting enough cash for cars in Brisbane might make it very difficult to find the right one.
This means that many Brisbane car owners do not have the luxury of trading their second-hand cars or selling them privately. All of which begs the question, how does one sell a wrecked vehicle without losing money and still make some?
Picture this: Your vehicle was involved in a collision and the restoration expenses are well above your reach. It's obvious to you daily, as it occupies your driveway and emits an obnoxious amount of lost value from the wasted space.
Tumblr media
You feel it is still of some value but the idea of going through selling a car without flipping out beforehand is overwhelming. From listing the car to haggling with potential buyers and handling all of the paperwork — it can be a huge stress (especially when your car is anything but perfect). Moreover, it loses its value over time.
Then think about the aggravation and cost of fixing it up just to get rid of - when you could be using that same money as a small down payment on a lawn tractor. Even the repairs are not as big of an issue; they usually cost a lot to fix and take more time and there is no guarantee that you will recover your expenses in a sale.
What if I told you there is a way to sell your car for more money - and the managing process would be much quicker than selling it on Craigslist?
Solution
Welcome to cash for cars Brisbane Services. Some of the wrecking businesses specialize in purchasing broken, scrap, or non-operational vehicles and can provide a simple pick-up procedure for automobiles to unwind auto owners needing rapid solutions with income.
With our ready-to-use cash-for-car brisbane service, you can proceed without a headache and turn your wrecked vehicle into instant money.
Why Should You Go With Cash for Cars Brisbane Services?
Simple and easy fast process: This is so simple task. With a service, you simply contact them and tell them about your car; they will then provide an instant quote. If you say yes then they will do the rest.
No Repairs: You do not need to fix anything like in the case of selling on your own. Cash for Cars service purchases vehicles in any condition.
Most of these services offer free car removal, so it will save you money to transport the vehicle.
Free Car Removal in Brisbane To Earn Extra Cash
Instant Payment In Cash: You get paid immediately, which is beautiful if you are in a state of emergency concerning the money.
Eco-friendly: Here services typically ensure that your car is disposed of in an eco-pleasant method, recycling re-functional parts and releasing the others are brand-new only environmentally friendly hemp.
How to Maximize Your Profit
Obtain Many Quotations: Do not accept the earliest offer. Contact more than a few Brisbane cash for cars services to get quotations This ensures you will get the best deal for your car.
Tell Them the Condition: Let them know how poorly your vehicle is to make sure you get an honest quote. Deceptive information - can result in a lesser final offer upon inspection.
Select Good Services: Find good companies in quick car removal in Brisbane. Read reviews and ask for recommendations online to make sure you are working with someone reputable.
Get your car: Except that there has to be nothing prepared (make sure you take all sorts of personal effects out) and have the applicable paperwork. It reduces time and last-minute confusion.
Conclusion
Selling a car with serious damage need not be an arduous task. Fast Car Removals to get cash for cars in Brisbane allows you an opportunity to scrap your junk car and get paid instantly, without having to fix it up or go through any hassle in selling. If you choose a good service, get multiple quotes, and give an accurate evaluation of your car's state; then you can make quite a profit in addition to clearing up that room on your driveway.
Do not allow a car that is already declining in value to continue; use the best pipe-pushing roller services and get some money back from it.

Busying himself in RED's garage, Angel grumbles in complete irritation, tossing a few rusty auto parts and other techy-ish devices from a random box and into another that's meant for recycle. Searching for anything that would work for his so called "secret" project. Since now that he's banned from borrowing the company truck because he "did not file for permission." to use.
PFFT like they actually give much of a shit when anyone else uses it for stupid crap. Say like go down to the local bar to get shit faced adn fight the locals??? But HE can't use the damn truck to grab some extra snacks and some spare clothes? It's not like he crashed it or anything! Okay he may have clipped a mailbox but that thing was too close tot he ,main road! Discrimination I tell ya. Sighs loudly as he once again nicks his bare hands on a rusty sliver of broken metal, ah fuck.

There is no useful way to categorize generative AI as stealing that doesn't also categorize essentially every creative work ever made as stealing.
Further, there is no way to develop generative AI which does practical things, like translation and protein folding, without developing generative AI which does literally anything else, because protein folding, translation, and making a creative work are functionally the same process from a programming perspective, and programmers tend to like open source things.
These things are pretty well established, but also seem to routinely be ignored. So why? Well, I have some speculation about why people might be wrong on the internet. A number of these things may be true in any individual of course.
They just don't know these things to be true, despite them being true, because they haven't heard them yet.
They have heard them but don't believe them, because it would be convenient if these things were not true (because they also have one of the later reasons too)
It's part of an ideological package deal they picked up somewhere, picking up some components of the ideology means they must pick up the others, and part of the highly online progressive ideological package is "anything made by a programmer that attracts media attention must necessarily be bad"
Everyone wants to be an artist, but they see potential competition. Thus, the competition must be defamed. It is also socially acceptable to lie, exaggerate, or generally wildly speculate about machines, so absurd easily disprovable claims get repeated.
People remember how much fun it was to bully cryptocurrency people, because they were a relatively small community that clearly signposted themselves, skewed ideologically right-libertarian (an extremely rare ideology in the real world and thus a desirable target), and defined themselves around a product that made very little financial sense and was impractical for basically everything (and was made by and for goldbugs but that's beside the point). They then assume, partially because of option 3, that anything that programmers make must necessarily make little financial sense and be impractical for basically everything, even when this is not true, and then assume therefore bullying Generative AI people might also be fun, because "they're basically the same thing"
Having enemies is fun in general, and a decently insulated mid-sized community has decided AI people are an ideologically acceptable enemy to have, so if you're going to have an enemy, why not have them as the enemy?
Valorization of certain forms of labor over others. (why is the corporate artist more important to defend than the auto worker who got automated out of a job earlier?)
Desperation for there to be something humans are better at than a sufficiently well-programmed computer, they already dominate board games and repetitive industrial tasks, and now they're coming for slightly less repetitive tasks, and if we don't have slightly less repetitive tasks, what do we have?
Fear of SEO spam and people using AI to lie on the internet (this is a particularly weird one because we already have SEO spam and it's comically easy to trick people on the internet, and it's doubtful generative AI would make either of these problems worse. I've seen people reblog the most obviously fake things like they're real! Using AI to lie on the internet would be like trying to kill an ant with a nuclear bomb, it might work, but also you could just lie about someone pretty directly or create a fake post that you claim is from an opponent and then mock them for it, and basically no one is going to check it. This particular moral panic is actually recycled from when photoshop was new)
Maybe they just genuinely do want more restrictive copyright law that allows companies to maintain very close control over their IP? I have seen this take in the wild but not so much in my tumblr circles, generally it's something about "fanworks butcher the source material and parodies are often lazy or shallow, therefore IP should be more restrictive to prevent those things from happening."
They don't like generative AI for some other reason (they're an educator and got handed a generated essay and had to grade it, they blame it for contributing to the continued decline in quality of search engines, they dislike how companies keep trying to make A Virtual Assistant Like From The Movies a thing and don't fully remember that this "we're going to make virtual assistants a thing" has been going on since at least Clippy and probably way longer) and then generalize their dislike to every aspect, because one aspect annoys them but they don't feel that's justification enough to be angry about it.
Anyway that's my speculation. Maybe there's other reasons why people keep making incorrect statements too, but I can't think of any that wouldn't be covered by these points right now.

🤺 - to challenge your muse to a sparring match . // opal wanna spar the boy
Well, when the commander decides that the Exorcist branch needs something as far as training goes to occupy their day in absence of their usual clucky leader who was apparently off spending his afternoon filling the white board walls of Sera's so called 'Adam Punishment Room' with affirmations such as 'I will not whip it out for a Deez Nutz punchline-', Abel is not one to question his choices, even when they involve lining him and a few other mortal members of the Legion up a yard across from where the Exorcist's seemed...to be making a boisterous affair of who stood where in their line as if there were a pecking order to such matters.
He had his doubts, of course- mostly because these sorts of friendly engagements had no place for heavy armor or the guns they usually employed against hell's masses, and though he was assured that Michael wouldn't ask him to be there if he posed the risk of being spotted by his father sans his uniform, well... his blank, gilded gaze remained on a silent swivel- just in case he needed to play the ill recruit and shove his head in the nearest bin. Well, at least they weren't sparring in a bathroom...his mind wanders, a twitch of his temple indicating he was far luckier to be presented with the option of recycling bins over a porcelain bowl that might end up auto flushing like it did the time he'd stopped to tie his shoe a little too close for comfort...the comfort being the experiment behind using the lid as a chin rest while doing so.
It's a snap of fingers administered between the glaze of his expression that clears the muddled gold of its cloud cover, and he straightens his shoulders while peering down at...oh, one of them? Had she sauntered over while he was thinking about toilets?
Awk-ward...
Tumblr media
"Hi- yes. Did we get paired for the exercise? I wasn't thinking about when toilets attack if that's what it looked like! That...hard anyway." Honesty in heaven was the best policy...until it wasn't. "
With a nervous laugh and a peeled flutter of grayish blue wings, he slips out the shepherd's cane tucked beneath one and flips it into place along the span of his arm as he waited for her to do the same and meet his engagement stance, but not without parting with the usual sentiment shared between the mortal branch of the Legion when letting their squadron know they were locked in to their task. No more toilet thoughts-
"Ready and able."

There are two kinds of people in the world. On one hand, you have the folks who get super upset when an oil tanker spills and irreversibly contaminates precious natural resources, destroying our planet in the name of short-term profit. On the other hand, you’ve got the kind of folks who immediately commission a sketchy series of near-criminals into purchasing a disused scientific trawler because some idiot left a bunch of free oil out there and I don’t want to have to do the valve cover gaskets on my engine.
All it takes, really, is a big scoop on the front of a boat. A big scoop is something we can absolutely make. Most of us have experience fabricating rulebook-pleasing hood scoops from Princess Auto snow shovels, recycle bins left out on the side of the road, road signs, and human ribcages. Still not sure how Big Al got ahold of that, and, no matter what you may think of me, I’m not going to ask him while we’re sharing a room on this tiny little research ship.
You might think that once you’ve hoovered up the oil, it’s a good idea to separate out the water, or at least desalinate it a little bit, before you put it into an engine. And we did that, through gravity. The big tank in the bottom of the ship holds all of it and we just took a bunch of soup ladles from the kitchen and put it into old pails. Refine it? Nothing doing, college folks: like I said, the wheezy-ass slant six in this Volare blows through oil so fast that it probably won’t even notice as long as it’s slippery enough. Hell, it could be expired mayonnaise, but the grocery store recently started locking up their dumpster at night again.
Really, the worst part of all this is the attention we got. As soon as the local government figured out that we were in the area, cleaning up one of the world’s most atrocious ecological disasters, they wanted to give us some medals and invite us to give speeches. And we’re not really about that, especially because the increased attention likely means that some plutocrat-worshipping federale will start scrutinizing us out of spite, looking for a “gotcha” to punish us for making the oil industry look worse. A gotcha like “noticing our license plates are made with crayon.” You just can’t do anything nice for people anymore without it becoming so polarized, but on the plus side Shaky Earl got a great gig at the United Nations. He did have to start bringing a drip tray to work, though, because his reserved parking space was starting to look a little oily.

Here's a trigger I used a couple years ago, I think it's pretty fun:
You've always been obsessed with acting 'noble', and base all of your behavior around that ideal. Most people just write you off as eccentric, but what they don't realize is the amount of money that you have to spend to maintain this image. At first, you can keep afloat through a combination of a relatively well-paying job and bank loans, but eventually, you're unable to continue borrowing. This forces you to start borrowing money from more and more unsavory sources, but you need it to maintain your image, so you bite the bullet. Eventually, you sink into enough debt that you can't keep up with the installments, and this causes the gang you've been borrowing from to pay you a visit. They drag you outside, and beat you up to make an example out of you. As they beat you, you realize that there's no way you'll be able to maintain the facade of nobility. You trigger.
ooooo i like this one...
The changer/identity stuff feels pretty apparent here. They're maintaining a presentation/facade and the trigger happens when this becomes impossible.
This reads like a tinker trigger to me. They're struggling to do something over a long period of time, and look for solutions in multiple places to make it happen.
Lack of resources/money -> resource tinker, or a power with a resource/fuel mechanic if they aren't a tinker.
The parahuman gets physically beaten up, so they should maybe get a brute capability or something similar.
"Ascot" triggers as the kind of tinker able to quickly make sophisticated devices out of scrap and shitty materials. They can build electric swords and armour, as well as replacement body parts and auto-surgery devices. Most of their body-tinkering won't go deeper than skin and muscle, but the appearance is what is most important to them.
The first blueprint that arrives in their mind might be an artificial replacement facial structure, that can be made out of a variety of parts, and can be shifted (with a remote control) to assume different identities.
The main issue that Ascot struggles with is a partial inability to repair their tech, and it breaks down comparatively quickly. Instead of an easy repair or re-calibration, each time their gear breaks down, at least one component is irreparably broken and requires wholesale replacement.
This causes an insatiable need for new materials, and/or the resources to slowly recycle them. It's made worse with low quality scap, which breaks down faster (even if it performs/functions just as well as higher grade stuff), but even more expensive material breaks down eventually.
They're constantly aware of how much time, for example, their artificial arm muscles will need replacement, how long before their self cleaning armour will stop working, and how long before the image they're projecting breaks down.
