A Sense of Dread

It's been four months since my twin died and my health is totally different. I am struggling with a condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia, where each day has become a personal battle.

As a child I always felt my pain threshold was quite high, now it’s a zero, but perhaps that’s got more to do with the fact that the condition is in my head and therefore it’s become a continuous battle to keep the pain to a manageable level.

As a child I handled pain. I wasn’t a particularly sickly child, but there were occasions when I was physically sick and I needed to be mentally strong. Now is the time and truthfully I am mentally struggling. I do have feelings of dread, around a condition there seems to be little let up on.

It's a nerve issue, so I am throwing herbs and supplements at it, supplements that are known to repair the nerve. I'm also trying infrared treatment. I hope in a few weeks’ time I will look back and be thankful I got through the worst, but now is not that time.

When my dentist confirmed the illness, he made sure to tell me, IT IS NOT A DISEASE, but he also didn’t say there was an end point either. No end point, fills me with a feeling of dread, a sense of uncertainty, a physical life change. A feeling of dread of something I momentarily that I have little control over.

Add Brexit and Covid-19 into the equation and that sense of dread deepens. All I can do is continue to think positively. I am trying. Today as you're reading, it's not a good day.

How good of a liar is your Dark Urge? How do they feel about lying?

I feel like he was definitely a better liar before the brain scrambling, but that current -1 charisma doesn't do him too many favors. Most of the time though, he doesn't even bother trying to lie, if anything because he likes the reactions he gets out of people. When he does lie, it's rather easy to tell because he can't put that insufferable smirk away for a goddamn second. He's like the knife cat meme.

Has your Dark Urge become particularly close to anyone romantically and/or platonically in their journey? If so, who, and what is the relationship like? If no, why not?

I'm gonna go based on game stuff here because Serkan really hasn't made too many friends here, or at least they haven't developed enough for me to answer in depth. I'm not sure Puck counts because Serkan doesn't even know if they're friends or just existing together against their will.

Anyway, Serkans squad is Astarion, Gale, and Shadowheart up until end of act 2 then Shadowheart swaps with Minthara.

Serkan has dated Astarion and Gale so far, and I will be romancing Minthara on his current playthrough when I get there.

But as for dynamics? Serkan with Astarion, he absolutely knew he was being played at first and was happy to play the game. If Astarion wanted protection, he'd gladly provide it. I think he also did enjoy the little pet names and being called darling and such, I feel like it brought a sense of normality to an overall bizarre situation.

Regardless, Serkan did treat Astarion pretty well honestly! They kind of matched each others freak which certainly did help, and Serkan was more than happy to enable him with the whole asension thing, not because of like... power or anything, but because he thought that's what Astarion wanted? Though he was disappointed that Astarion didn't match his energy when he went to become Bhaals chosen next long rest.

And depending on ending, Serkan either takes over the brain with him or if he doesn't become chosen, then he kind of follows Astarion around after that. I don't know if I have the greatest grasp of Ascended Astarions character, but from what I think I know, I don't think Serkan and Astarion would actually last post game as a couple regardless of those two endings.

He strikes me as very condescending, and given Serkan usually embraces the whole 'I'm the son of Bhaal, I'm made from the blood of a god' thing, he would eventually find the whole superiority thing to be grating. He would believe he's A!Astarions equal at least, if not more. While he would probably think it's funny at first and feed his ego in a teasing way, eventually it'd become a subject of argument. Serkan also does not take bullshit from anyone so... yeah.

Again, I might be reading him wrong when it comes to how he acts toward a partner, idk!

But yeah, for Gale? That one I'd say is weirdly more toxic on Serkans side for sure... considering he was supposed to romance Minthara on that file and had even slept with her right before this and then he completely derailed it over 1 thing--

Anyway it all started at the goblin party when Gale fucking threatened to leave. Apparently that triggered something in Serkan and he decided he wanted Gale carnally.

So he proceeded to then be really really nice to Gale whenever they spoke, and he'd do basically anything he wanted him to do... and I can imagine Serkan basically throwing that in Gales face every time he had something to say about the atrocities he was committing. Also reminding him of what his fate would be if he left the party. So uh... not good?

It kind of shows Serkans desire for approval while also refusing to put aside his own desires. He wants his cake and to eat it to. He wants Gale to love him but refuses to resist his urges.

Yeah, and then the whole god thing in act 3 was just another thing for Serkan to use to go 'See!!! I helped you do this. Aren't I such a good partner to you?'

I think Serkan really did feel conflicted though at the end about taking the brain for Bhaal or taking it down so Gale could have the crown. I think he really did think he loved Gale? But obviously Serkan has a very twisted sense of love for people.

I've only done the take over the brain ending, and the 'kill the brain after losing to Orin' ending while romancing Gale and honestly, I think the latter is just the better option here. Serkan needed to die.

The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson My first impressions (Writing down my first impressions of the book. NOT an in-depth review. Reviews base on personal enjoyment.) RANK: Super Another fantastic entry to Misborn. Brandon Sanderson has become my favorite author thanks to The Well of Asension. I want to get this out of the way. This book does suffer a bit from Middle Book Syndrome (When not much has happen in the second book of a trilogy.). Despite that it still manages to grab my attention throughout the book. Learning the what happen before Asension and reading the Journal entries of Kwaan is one of many favorite monuments in the book. (view spoiler)[The fact that the Well of Asension was a prison for an evil being is a fun twist. Kwaan writing his warning in metal so the evil being cannot alter it. (hide spoiler)]. Just going to write my favorite moments. The final battle(view spoiler)[The battle of Luthadel against the Koloss (hide spoiler)]is really brutal and stressful. Sanderson did a great job writing the battle. I felt the fear of every character in the battle. The Siege is well done. (view spoiler)[Having not one, not two but three armies showing up to take the city. (hide spoiler)] The whole siege is suspenseful. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I enjoyed how each of the leaders of each army try different ways to take over the city. Whatever be through politics, making alliances or a war of attrition. (view spoiler)[ The fight over who gets to be king. I enjoy the ways Elend, Cett and other characters try different ways to secure the title of king. It didn’t slow down the book one bit. (hide spoiler)] Vin, Elend, and Sazed are my characters in this book. I really enjoyed seeing them change as the siege went on. Straff is an entertaining villain. I enjoy reading his POV when he’s on the page. I have to make a full review. There is so much I want to write about. Overall, an amazing book that kept me hook and entertained.
