so i'm going to uni again for a year and i have art history classes for the first time and holy shit hannah gadsby wasn't lying when she said that the history of western art is just the history of men painting women like they're flesh vases for their dick flowers

#our teacher is so infuriating too. kept talking about the 'eroticism' in paintings of nude women #without even MENTIONING the objectification of women's bodies. NOT ONCE.#'you can see here that delacroix used a photograph as reference for this nude painting to make it more accurate'#MY GUY DO YOU NOT SEE HOW HE TWISTED THE PROPORTIONS ???? THE PICTURES ARE LITERALLY NEXT TO EACH OTHER FFS #and like. i get that his class isn't about a feminist reading of art history. but having the male gaze be so fucking blatant #and him not making even ONE note about it. talking like the way these men painted women is normal and neutral. was so fucking ENRAGING #reminds me of that one film analysis teacher who told us that it didn't matter that hitchcock was a creep and a predator #because all the people involved were dead #as if hitchcock wasn't one of the most influencial directors of all time #and his films didn't shape most of western cinema. including the way it portrays women #anyways #mara talks #mara rants in the tags
