got reminded about radch again and man. How fucking shit must it be to be ann leckie. you nailed it perfectly the first time, and everything else has been mediocre to irrelevant.
#in case this isn't clear I actually really stand by Justice#Sword and Mercy are just okay#and the spin offs read like an admission that she doesn't have anything else in the tank#as I've vaguely gotten into music criticism this year there's one thing I've taken away from those critiques#that i haven't heard from critics in other mediums#which is namely that some people really don't have that many ideas and they use up all the good ones on a single project#and when they try to follow it up their career sputters out#Ancillary Justice is really really up there for me; Sword and Mercy are confused messes with a deus ex machina ending#It's abundantly clear Leckie had absolutely no idea where to go from Justice which is why the story just kind of ends up#in the same location as the end of Justice#but in a different location#Sphene can stay though I fucking love her
