fighting? that cant be right... we're not made to fight, we aren't a warrior race

(Note this story isn't finished but I thought I should post the draft)

A tourney?

What need is their for a tourney?

We're all peaceful folk, I dont see any valid need for a tournament, all it would do is tear us apart, fighting was never meant for anyone.

Right?

No, maybe I'm wrong, there have been wars before, and we did always win, despite the struggles.

Maybe a small tourney wouldn't hurt us after all, besides Applejack was the one who brought up the idea, and I doubt she's ever lied to us before, she is the honesty element after all.

"C'mon, hurry up..." Rainbow whined as she darted ahead of us by a few feet, and looked back to be looking me in the eye.

"I don't even want to be here..." Fluttershy claimed quietly, I just barely caught it.

"Yeah Rainbow, why is it so important to you anyways?" I asked hoping to pry some information from the mare, I loved her like a sister but she was stubborn.

"Scootaloo and Applebloom have the first match and we cant miss the opening match, it's always the best one!" Rainbow said in her defense as she sped up a bit, me and Fluttershy following close behind, not wanting to lose the colorful Pegasus in the crowd.

"I see your point, we should try to get there before the locker rooms are to crowded for anyone to get in." I claimed as we took a sudden turn busting down a door, finding the locker room shockingly empty, only Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Scootaloo, Applebloom, Trixie, Big Mac and Vinyl Scratch.

"Applejack!" Rainbow called out catching her friends attention who trotted over.

"Glad you three could make it over to watch." Applejack said with a smile as Rarity made her way over.

"To watch? I'm fighting as well, got to prove my stuff." Rainbow said with a smirk.

"Your choice, But dont get mad when I beat you." Applejack said with a chuckle as she playfully hit Rainbows shoulder, who returned the favor.

"I might as well join the festivities as well, I doubt anyone would get to mad if I did." I said catching everyone's attention.

"You? Fight in a tourney? You dont understand tournaments, do you, Twilight?" Rarity asked scoffing a bit, she was in no good shape to fight in a tourney, but her confidence was all she needed to push through a few matches.

"Not really." I admitted sheepishly.

"It's consecutive series of matches until two remain and duke it out to the death." Pinkie Pie explained with a light giggle, she really was brutal somedays.

"Death?" I asked cautiously, the thought of murdering a friend, or being murdered by one of them sent shivers down my spine.

"Yep, death. Most of the times it doesn't come to that though, most of the ponies pussy out before the match ends, or are to tired to even fight by the time the final match comes." Rainbow explained with a smirk on her face.

"I think I'll pass on the fighting then." I said, taking a few steps back in fear.

"Don't worry Twilight, you dont have to fight with us." Fluttershy told me, I guess she was also part of this tournament as well.

"I'll be sitting in the stands, and I'm hoping that none of you die." I told them before taking my leave as they discussed tactics for the tournament, I never should've let this happen.

"And the opening match begins... Now!" the announcer shouted across the stadium, an uproar of cheering and applause ringing out around me as I sat at the edge of the bleachers in disbelief as Scootalo and Applebloom trotted out on opposite ends of the coliseum, they each had a weapon, Scootalo with blades on her wings, Applebloom with a dagger in her mouth.

"Even the foals." I groaned with a sigh before they launched at each other, I couldn't bare to watch as the crowd roared behind me and our apprentices duked it out.

"Go for it, Scootaloo!"

"You better not let us down, Applebloom!'

"I bet twenty bucks on that Pegasus!"

"No way in hell is Applebloom losing!"

That was all I could sort through the shouting and cheering until it came to a halt with a single unanimous gasp from the crowd after a crack rang out a scream following afterwards, in fear I looked down, being greeted with Applebloom struggling to her feet, one of her ankles shattered and the rest of her body coated in slices that oozed crimson from what I could see in the bleachers.

It disgusted me.

How could Applejack let this happen? No she wouldn't let this happen, someone else must've told the judges it was allowed to go this far when it was just foals. I read my books, I knew full grown ponies of any kind could go this far in fights of any kind, but foals? It's unheard of for mutilation by foals to foals.

"Isn't this illegal?" I asked to no one, not expecting an answer, but being greeted with one by Sweetie Belle.

"It is illegal for foals to go this far, but it's clear that Scootaloo is out for blood now." Sweetie Belle said with a sigh as she watched Scootaloo further mutilate Applebloom until she was torn from the barely standing foal who struggled to breath as she stood on the dirt grounds of coliseum, the crowd roaring for more in the background as Scootaloo struggled against the Pegasi that pulled her out of the ring, Applebloom carried out on a stretcher leaving a small trail of blood that dripped through the thin fabric.

I despised it, all of it.

We shouldn't be cheering for mutilation and death, but a part of me knows it will only go downhill from here, I'm glad Sweetie Belle is up here with me and agrees they shouldn't be going this far, so much blood will taint these grounds, no amount of rain can wash away the sins my friends are committing today.

"Today my sister is going to die, I can tell." Sweetie Belle claimed snapping me from my thoughts, I nodded in agreement to her statement.

"It has come to my attention that the contestants want to have a free for all instead of one on one matches, and I think that sounds like a great idea, what do you think!?" the announcer shouted out, being answered with an uproar of cheers and shouts of agreement, before the gates raised and out trotted the eight champions.

They all looked different, something about the scent of the blood must've triggered a feral response, but what worried me most was their weapons. Rarity had a metal tip on her horn preventing full use of magic but allowing jabbing, Rainbows weapon wasn't visible but most likely lethal, Applejack had her time honored lasso which was refitted to work as a whip, the rest of their weapons seemed much worse or I didn't even want to think about it.

"Ponies get ready, the match begins... Now!" the announcer shouted with glee in his voice as the fighters each matched up to one another, Rainbow taking Big Mac, Applejack taking Vinyl Scratch, Pinkie Pie against Trixie and Fluttershy against Rarity, the crowd roared in glee as they watched them fight.

The first killed was Big mac he never stood a chance against Rainbow, she eliminated him in mere minutes, the rest putting up a good fight against there opponents, Fluttershy was gone next without much of a sound to gather attention her mutilated form, Rarity moving over to challenge Rainbow.

"Listen closely." Sweetie Belle said with a sigh before an ear piercing scream shattered the crowds cheering, they all turned their attention to Rainbow Dash who had her hooves against Raritys chest, blood splattered her form from the sudden impact and pierce of the spikes in her hooves she showed off for us with a smirk, most likely having popped Raritys lungs preventing any and all potential recovery for the fashionista, Rainbow leaving Raritys form that bled out, staining her snow-white fur with crimson.

"There goes Rarity." I uttered with a broken sigh as I watched Rainbow make her way over to Trixie who was preoccupied with Pinkie Pie and was unfazed by the spikes that sunk into her back, simply using a back kick to send Rainbow flying. It shocked me with how easily she managed an attack, but it didn't shock me when Rainbow crashed into Applejack launching both of them into the wall causing it to crack slightly.

Bones must've been broken considering the blood curdling shriek of pain Rainbow let out at the initial impact before she fell back to the ground, her wings mashed to a bloody pulp, bones sticking out through flesh, just barely hanging on at the joint, I shivered at the horrendous sight as Rainbow tried to regain her balance, legs left in good enough condition to run and kick if she had to for survival. Applejack looked to be in good condition and rushed right back to the fight, bearing her weapon with rage in eyes, she must've been in prime condition, Rainbow having cushioned the impact greatly.

"Rainbow." I muttered under my breath hearing only a faint sniffle from Sweetie Belle.

"Stupid sister, I knew I should've tried to stop her from entering this tournament." Sweetie Belle said with a light sniffle a few tears gathering at the corner of her eyes.

"At least you didn't die down there." I said in hopes to cheer her up as the crowd cheered behind and around us as the carnage continued Trixie being brutally terminated by Pinkie Pie and kicked to the side, skidding across the dirt leaving a trail of blood and guts, causing the crowd to burst out in an uproar of excitement while I looked at the dead unicorn in fear, knowing that could've been me who was curb stomped by Pinkie Pie.

"So? Raritys still gone, and only one will stay standing." Sweetie Belle as another scream rang out through the coliseum, dragging our attention towards Applejack and Vinyl Scratch, Applejack had caught Vinyl Scratch in a strangle hold with her whip, keeping him still and throwing a few kicks at his back to get a reaction until he stopped moving completely, I never thought I would see the day she snapped and killed someone innocent.

"Applejacks gone to." I said with a sigh as I watched apple drop her victim and rushed straight to Pinkie Pie who sidestepped skillfully with a light giggle before tackling Applejack in her small moment of weakness, her balance thrown off for a second due to missing, it was the perfect opening and Pinkie Pie took it.

"She's still standing though." Sweetie Belle said, not understanding what I meant in the slightest.

"No, she lost herself to a bloodlust I thought was bred out of ponies genes hundreds of years ago, around when we stopped holding tournaments and battle royals like this one." I explained, reading always was boring to most of my friends, but at least I know what's happening down there, even if it's only a little bit.

"I never knew we used to be a fighting civilization." Sweetie Belle said as she continued to watch the carnage unfold before her two eyes, must've been hard on her to see her own sister die, I could only imagine the horror of having a sibling be killed in front of my eyes.

"A long, long, long time ago was when ponies fought. This is the first battle royal in centuries and hopefully the last." I explained with a light sigh as my attention was pulled to Pinkie Pie who had Applejack just barely standing, one of her front legs hanging on by a thread as she tried to tackle Pinkie Pie again just barely making contact and throwing a back kick with one hoof to throw Pinkie back a few feet drawing blood from her now broken snout, Rainbow watching from the side, most likely hoping Applejack would win, easier to kill than Pinkie Pie considering they're current states.

"Maybe I should read my history books more often then." Sweetie Belle said with a light chuckle as she watched Pinkie Pie tear off Applejacks leg at one of the joints causing a stream of blood to fall at the end of the bone that stuck out, only the meat being torn off of the broken bone, it looked horrific even from the bleachers I sat in, the shout of agony from the attack was more than enough to make me feel sick to my stomach.

"Yeah, maybe, we can always read together. I have quite a few of them from across the ages of our history." I told Sweetie Belle who looked pleased at the idea.

"Sounds like a deal to me." She said as she looked over to me with a smile.

"Next week at my place sound good?" I asked putting out a hoof which was tapped by Sweetie Belle in agreement to the deal before our attention was turned back to the stadium with a glass shattering shriek that only dogs should've been able to hear, we looked down jaws dropping at the sight.

When we looked down we saw Applejacks snout buried in Pinkie Pies carcass around the chest tearing out a chunk of her flesh and swallowing it with a murderous grin on her face, it looked like Rainbow chuckled at the gesture to try and intimidate her, what was it called again? I know I've read about it before.

Cannibalism.

Applejack just committed cannibalism in front of our very eyes, I never thought anyone could stoop so low to strike fear into their opponents, what made it worse was the fact the crowd loved it. Their isn't a single record of pony on pony cannibalism in the history books at my house, but I've read of the practice in history book on griffins.

Judging by the look on Sweetie Belles face she also learnt about it at some point in her life, she was in fear, from what she showed on her face, but the shaking in her knees told me she knew she could be next if Applejack made it out alive.

One taste is all it takes to get addicted according to the books, and knowing Applejack, all it would take is one taste and a bad mindset even for a second to lose herself.

"Twilight... I'm scared, what if your next?" Sweetie Belle asked cautiously as she watched Applejack and Rainbow walk circles around each other at even speeds despite the fatigue they were undergoing right now, Rainbows wings shattered, one having fell off her legs still stable and splashed with blood, Applejack missing a front leg, but staying upright with a fierce grin on her blood covered face.

"Don't worry Sweetie Belle, I won't let her hurt you." I said to reassure Sweetie Belle as I pulled her under my wing and wrapped it around her to try and shield her eyes from what was going to happen in the ring, but I knew she wanted to see.

Why not?

At this rate fighting would the newest trend on the block.

"Alright, Dash, we can make this quick or we can savor our last moments and maybe meet up in hell together." Applejack explained as her gaze mapped Rainbows broken form, no matter how bloodied and battered she was, Rainbow was still the same, laid back, loyal, cocky mare.

"Hell together? Sounds great, but I'll have to pass up on the offer, Apple." Rainbow claimed cockily mapping Applejacks form, looking for a break in defense, only her underbelly looked easy to hit and more effective than any other method, but even then how could she hurt her?

brutally, hoping for Applejacks death to be fast painless.

Forcing it to be fast at the least once she was down.

"Let's hope they truce." I sighed as I unblocked Sweetie Belles view of the ring, she had already watched her sister die, so what's one more deaths worth of emotional damage gonna do to her psyche? I'm already gonna have to take her under my wing, considering her sister got mutilated, the flies are already starting to gather at her once pristine form that lay lifeless, her chest coated in ichor the formed a puddle around her lifeless body.

"I don't think they will." Sweetie Belle said as she watched Rainbow take a few steps closer to Applejack, each taking their sweet, sweet time before Applejack rushed forward Rainbow taking a leap into the air, her attempt at escape working against her as it allowed Applejack to ram her square in the underbelly, knocking the pegasus back a few feet before she made a quick rebound launching herself at Applejack hooves first, spikes out and ready to kill.

"Yeah, it's a shame." I said as I watched Rainbow sink the spikes into Applejacks side who bucked the Pegasus off her and caught her with the whip before she could go flying to the edge of the ring.

"They're both amazing ponies." Sweetie Belle said as she watched Applejack curb stomp Rainbow before the Pegasus made an escape from Applejacks crimson stained hooves.

"Agreed, shame they stooped low enough to killing each other for everyone else's entertainment." I claimed boldly as I watched the two hold their positions, Rainbows expression fading to one that entailed doom for her opponent, Applejacks expression turning to one that carved certain death for opponent in stone.

"Yeah, I was hoping I could learn some things about farming from Applejack, but then this happened." Sweetie Belle claimed as we watched both ponies charge at each other, waiting for impact which never came, Rainbow taking a sloppy swerve up that sent blood, bone and bits of flesh raining down to dodge before rocketing back down, with horrible precision, at Applejack who managed to sidestep in the nick of time before bucking the flier to the side which was dodged and the pegsus retaliated with a simple back kick which sent Applejack flying.

"Fair enough, she is a great farmer." I claimed with a chuckle at the memories as Applejack recovered from the ground and steadied herself on the three legs she had before ramming Rainbow who had lowered her guard in confidence of strength, only being knocked back a bit by the attack
