Doll apple slices!!! I make a lot of them at once, usually because it takes me a while to get the color right ^^
I'm making them out of Model Magic, because it's easy to mix and super lightweight, but I think any lightweight air dry clay would work? I want to test other types of soft, light clay
Other than model magic or a similar clay, I use a flat surface to roll and mix them on, a small tray to let them dry in (mine's a clear plastic doll package piece), a narrow ridge to shape them on (I use the plastic packaging from a set of six glue sticks, but I think a narrow dowel or stick could work), as well as a cutting board and sharp blade to cut them into slices
I started with white and yellow, and a yellow-green custom color-- my previous ones were a white and green mix, because I have a bunch of light green to use up, and I wanted to see if this would work like I thought
It takes a bit of testing to get the right mix-- I'm going for a pale yellow, but not a strict white-yellow, with the smallest hint of that green shade. For a peach slice, I'd use more yellow mixed in with the barest touch of red, or a tiny bit of red-- red and blue both will spread SO MUCH more than yellow, so use sparingly and in small amounts, and mix it completely through before deciding to add anything more
Once I've mixed up a blob of the right color for whatever fruit slice I'm making, I roll out small tubes about the size of the fruit slice I want
Doesn't have to be the fanciest tube, just a tube. But then I press it over the ridge of an old glue stick container, to get the curve of where the apple core is cut out
I usually keep a lot of old scraps of packaging and stuff to make little clay tools like this. This one's been a long favorite, since I can dry things in the separate sections, and I'm always using glue sticks for doll rooms and furniture and cardstock food ^^
But, once you've turned all your clay into these tubes and shaped them, you'll have to set them aside for a few days to dry
I'll finish these up, and do a follow up on cutting the slices themselves in a reblog, so if you're seeing this post alone, just look for my part two in the notes!!

he was too late too late the geth slipped his pull somehow somehow they’d picked up a dampner it hadn’t worked and her slide to the side had been too slow when it rushed and she hadn’t jammed her knife into the juncture and she’d... she’d....
this time it was his nightmares driving him to the mess in the late watch. He stuck with tea, a little grassy and bitter but it just matched the adrenaline in his mouth. And she catches his startle when she rolls around the corner.
It’s almost wary, the way she reaches for the bowl of fruit. Her head down, he can see the way the skin is almost bruised under her eyes as she skims over a yellow pear and a pale blue plum and picks up a fairly decent looking strawberry macintosh, flecked with yellow like a russet almost like he could have picked it up off the orchard floor, like a treasure from a frost bitten row of lavender bushes. Another knife, this one tiny and silver, produced again from god knew where but it’s soothing, to watch her peel it. The long curve of a peel.
Did she know that old harvest game, one long peel to toss in the hearth to see if it spelled a letter?
He swallowed the urge to ask, sometimes things like that made her retreat- did you evers when he and Ashley were chatting in the MAKO while she drove.
He’s so focused on not asking, the pale slice of apple reached out to him makes him jump again and her jaw clenches.
“It’s better...than whatever you’re swallowing down.” Her voice is a little rough. Husky.
He takes it and bites into it, smoothly tart to make his mouth water. Good for a space shipped provision. She quirks a half smile when he catches a drip of juice with his thumb, taking a bite of her own right off the knife.
It is better. And he takes the next slice offered with a smile of his own.

diary entry eleven
I wonder why my green smoothie looks so brown in the picture when it was so green in real life. LOL.
This was a self improvement day all around. I ate healthy, I did some introspective journaling, and I started an online course about working more productively. While this was certainly not the best course out there -and I wouldn’t recommend this specific one- I am a huge advocate for self-learning and using all the tools and websites at your disposal to improve. Let’s be honest for a second: smart will never really become the new sexy. But I ask you this: why not both? I love how self improvement has shifted recently from looks and money to all areas of life.
👠here’s to being smart and sexy👠
