idk man. just imagine. perhaps neuvi's child was born shortly after she was instated as the "hydro archon," or perhaps slightly before. it really doesn't matter. the point is that they've known her all their life. she's like family to them at this point (Umm. something something a dragon's possessiveness of their loved ones..... Yeah) and to see how literally no-one has bothered offering her an apology or a thank you for her efforts makes something unidentifiable burn in their chest. i choose to believe that neuvillette apologized 😇 or we could go with canon and say he didn't, and you know... slight father/child angst. anyway. so, when seeing how no one has apologized and thanked her, they decide to do it themselves. they get her address from their father and show up to her home with a lakelight lily and one of her favorite cakes (they remembered, of course they did, she's their best friend, why wouldn't they remember?). and when she invites them in, because... they're probably the first person to come seek her out, you know? she would miss them after moving out. :( they quietly set down the gifts they've brought for her and just squeeze their arms around her. and quietly apologize to her and tell her that all of her efforts have been acknowledged (by them, at least), and they're so proud and thankful because fontaine would literally be gone by now if it werent for her.

My nerdy ass is leaning towards the kiddo being a dragon/vishap because 1. Poor girl's probably spiraling, feeling like she failed her closest friend.... when Neuvilette suddenly appears, child in hands, maybe a melusine or two following close behind. Turns out they'd snuck off to visit the Melusine village, because they wanted to see their "sisters" and Neuvilette had stopped by to visit himself (or maybe one of the Melusines paid him a visit at his office to alert him of his child's sudden visit).

Dude I fucking hate, hate, HATE how dirty they did Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper. Like, ya'll ain't no fuckin' Adepti, not to me, get tf outta here, pretenders/hj/lh. Like, I get that they're not playable atm (and it doesn't look promising that they will be with this reaveal), but you'd think Hoyo could at the very least give them appearances that didn't look like literally any other NPC you'd pass on the street.

I just... gods, whether it be the anniversary rewards, the at times really questionable story choices, or just... things like what they did with the other Adepti that make me dead ass go "😐". You can tell really that, even though it's the main moneymaker, that it at times feels like more of an afterthought on Hoyo's part at times compared to the Honkai games. Which is a real shame, considering how Genshin is supposed to be apart of the same "multiverse" as Impact 3rd and Star Rail.

Mama Xianyun ideas

So, I got hit with this headcannon that, when they were younger, Ganyu- and later Shenhe, would sometimes help Cloud Retainer with preening her feathers, plucking off stragglers (sometimes picking out the wrong feathers. Ouchies.), and helping with those hard to reach spots.

Now, with Shenhe and Ganyu being fairly busy with the responsibilities of their respective careers, I'd imagine that young adoptee, [Name], would inherit the mantle of assistant groomer™️ to our dear mama crane (maybe Shenhe and/or Ganyu would give them tips on what exactly they're looking for when they're helping their adoptive mama).

On another note, when you made the initial post that brought up the prompt of "Xianyun adopting a Liyuan orphan", I could not help but start thinking about the scenario. So, I assume that in the context of the prompt, Xianyun would be doing this in her human form. So imagine little orphaned [Name] finding their adoptive mother is an Adepti? Like, AYOOOOOO????!!!! I like to imagine they'd find out accidentally, witnessing her switching from her bird form to human form (or vice versa), and she has no clue they're there until she hears them squeakily shout "MAMA, YOU'RE AN ADEPTI?!?!?!"

I LOVE THAT IDEA i have similar thoughts about some of my winged ocs, and how their preening process usually goes and who helps them do it (if anyone), so i find myself pretty familiar with such ideas. i find it endearing, and perhaps somewhat intimate, you know? the wings are delicate in a way, and for a bird, very important. so to be able to help with preening is an indirect statement of trust! shenhe and ganyu offering Big Sisterly advice on this matter is such a cute concept. [name] would take this responsibility soooo seriously (and both women can't help but think that their little focused pout is so cute. shenhe probably has mild cuteness aggression towards them when the ropes are off HAHAHA)

and yes i imagined it as her in her human form! like, can you imagine.... everyone in liyue hears about this odd new resident and-- when did she get a child?????? Anyhow, I approach you tonight (in my timezone) with a brainrot appropriate for both my anonymous moniker, and the occasion at hand. That's right, this ask features the one and only... Cold Dragon Yooooooung! Not to be confused with Cold Dragon Younger or Cold Dragon Youngest

Imagine, the reader is a member of the Astral Express, among the younger members, let's say pre-teens to early teens, and they're a bit of a bookworm. And since Dan Heng has essentially turned the Archives into his room, he's finds himself often being visited by them, sometimes [Name] chats him up, sometimes they're just chilling their quietly as they read through the stories and files that the crew of the express have accumulated over the course of their journey. Perhaps [Name] takes a particular shine to the numerous tales of dragons from across the cosmos, including those of their progenitor, the deceased Aeon of the Permanence, Long. Perhaps over time, Dan Heng takes becomes something of a big brother to [Name] looking out for them, and always makes sure to bring back stories from the world the crew visits for them to look at when they return from missions. Imagine [Name] gazing upon Dan Heng's true form as their eyes light up like stars, and they can't help but go on a lengthy tangent about how absolutely awesome he looks, and how they bet he's so super strong in this form (which like... he is!)

Just a kiddo having an absolute hayday as they find out their big brother figure is a dragon-person!

dan heng would be a good brother i think... blood really doesn't matter. what matters is that he formed a cute bond with this little nerd /aff who is always in the archives with him.

his little sibling will only be allowed to go on trailblaze missions when he feels that they're old and strong enough (even if himeko and mr yang are okay with letting [name] go, if dan heng isn't, then they are stuck on the express LMAO but i don't think they'd mind. they'd just chill in the archives and read while they wait). speaking of which, you know how dan heng has that very... martial art style of fighting? i think he teaches them how to fight properly because, you know, they'll need it. he's always very careful not to hurt them and offers them his quiet form of praise when they do well. AND MAYBE. when the trailblaze mission is concluded, and the astral express is still docked, he'll take them to whatever planet has been visited and will let them explore and observe that planet's unique properties. probably also takes them to a local bookshop. just dan heng having a cute outing with his bookworm little sibling once he knows it is safe to do so.

and ohhhhjshsjg hear me out. dan heng in his true form being so so protective of [name], moreso than he already was before (BECAUSE HEAR ME OUT: dragon instincts)... like. first trailblaze mission. [name]'s in danger. dan heng quietly picks them up, tells them not to look despite the fact that they aren't some naive little kid (to which they oblige, hiding their face in the junction between his neck and shoulder, a little embarrassed that they couldn't handle it themselves), supports their weight with one arm, and fucking WRECKS everything that posed a threat to their safety with the other hand.

AND CONSIDER wounded [name]...... dan heng being something of a hissy, overprotective older dragon brother and refusing to let anyone get too close to them until the other members of the astral express crew manage to talk him down (mostly himeko and welt i think...... march would make it worse unintentionally LMAOOO and stelle is. chaos. so. yeah), eventually managing to convince dan heng to hand over poor wounded [name] so that they can treat whatever wound they got. he's hovering over their shoulder the majority of the time anyway, though, and that's honestly probably really comforting. like yeah. maybe it's a little excessive. but he so blatantly cares a lot about their safety and i just think that would be so reassuring. him letting them squeeze his hand if it hurts too much........ i love playing around with nonhuman characters and how their more feral instincts manifest. dragon instinct dan heng.... cries he's so protective in my brain

but on an even cuter note--dan heng always picking up books and trinkets he thinks they would like while he's on trailblaze missions. he sees something and he's like.... wow.... [name] would like that....

and [name] rambling about how cool he looks and how strong he is *head in hands* PLEASEEE i think he'd be a bit embarrassed and maybe even a little uncomfortable but he knows they mean well.... and it grows on him. like. he starts to find it super cute and endearing :(((

I've never reader something that can be simultaneously heart-wrenching, and heartwarming. That has me super hyped for when you eventually get to posting the full works, I'm already immensely intrigued with the Collei one, and now I'm even more hyped up on the vibes being presented for the Wanderer chapter!

Though... that does leave me to beg the question....

Why and how does [Name] know who Wanderer is? Because iirc, didn't Scara retcon himself from history via Irminsul, meaning only Nahida, himself and descenders like the Traveler (and, based on his 'character miscellany' trailer, Klee's ma Alice) would recall who he was?

Maybe I'm just missing out on a detail you mentioned somewhere else, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

wanderer & ex-fatui agent!reader rambles below the cut, based on this post.

anyway, that's a very valid question and it's one i simply didn't address yet. but the answer is that [name]... doesn't. they have no idea who the wanderer was when the traveler first introduces them to him (but of course, he remembers them very well. he doesn't recognize them immediately, because remember--[name] is on the run. therefore, they changed everything about their appearance and identity so that they would be unrecognizable). it takes the wanderer a moment, but he does realize who they are... after all, him splitting their lip in the initial fic was not just there for angst. it serves a purpose. it leaves a very distinguishable scar on their face, one that they generally cover up with make-up. maybe their make-up is fading slightly, and the traveler kindly points it out to them because aether wouldn't want something bad to happen to them, and the wanderer is like... fuck. i know where they got that scar.

he doesn't say anything outright, but the traveler knows something has changed. the wanderer didn't want to be touched by this random stranger before, and now... now he's flinching away from them, dodging any attempts at conversation, and generally just hiding away. but what throws the traveler off a bit is that he is... not being a bitch to them? he's being strangely quiet and polite.

(he's scared, genuinely frightened. he knows they could put him in his place. they've done it before).

anyway, nahida eventually gets him to be honest with her about the sudden changes in his demeanor. he tells her about who they were and what they did to him...

...and she tells him that he should show them the truth.

"ultimately, this is your decision," she reminds him gently, kindly, "but you both have been victims of the doctor. you two may be more similar than what you realize, or what you wish to believe. i do not think they wanted to hurt you... nor did you to them."

he thinks she is wrong about that. he wanted to hurt them.

(he didn't. he was scared.)

...

ultimately, he agrees.

and yknow, that's how [name] ends up finding out! nahida shows them, with the wanderer's approval.

So, I don't have Gaming, but I've learned some his stuff through YouTube videos about him. And this is specifically aimed towards that one ask you got about him and Xianyun a small while back.

From what I currently know, it's only his mother who's dead, his father is Alice but they're on... uneven terms due to Gaming's conflicting interests.

According to a voiceline from him he actually views Xianyun as an aunty, and she also fixed up his wushou dance gear, so you could say that she’s adopted him, from a certain point of view!

On another not, I love the idea of [Name] trying to braid their hair to be like Shenhe's because of how much much they look up to her, even if their hair isn't long enough to do so is so gods damned adorable and I love it.

On the topic of Ganyu, I think I mentioned something similar to what I'm about to write in another ask I sent, but I don't think that one got answered (no shame, you're a person with your own life, afterall), so forgive me for the repetition. Now, [Name] looks up to Ganyu for how hardworking she is, and presumably comprehends just how important her job is not just for herself, but for ALL of Liyue! That being said, [Name] is still a young kid, and thus is prone to the age old young kid (irony) problem of.... boredom.

So, imagine [Name] is just hanging out with Ganyu while she's on the job (maybe Xianyun dropped them off with her as an impromptu babysitting session because mama had a pressing matter to attend to). And while Ganyu is absorbed in her work, [Name] is sitting there, long having become bored of whatever they were doing at the time. But also recognizing that their big sister's work is important to her, and thus do not want to bug her. So what do they decide to do to alleviate their boredom?
