As someone with some amount of facial blindness, any tips on how do you gain a better understanding of a person's facial structure?
I'm honestly not too sure, although I will say, looking at the face you're about to draw from as many different angles as possible and with different expressions would probably help a lot. That's at least what helped me when drawing Miguel! 😊
I keep hearing from other artists that looking at faces and objects as if they're basic shapes can help, but that really hasn't helped me very much, at least not with the kind of work I do. It would definitely help with stylized art though! I do think with practice, most things tend to sort themselves out eventually, I for instance used to have a hard time putting whatever I was drawing into a 3D space in my mind, but I find I don't struggle with that so much anymore.
I hope that shed some light on it, I'm sorry for not really having a straight answer though... But like I said, practice is probably the best tool, unfortunately lmao. Be sure to make the practice fun as well though!
#if you're not planning on ever becoming a professional artist and you just wanna draw your own characters or do fan art-#-you don't really need to have to do all the basics of art imo#just draw whatever you wanna draw and draw it for *you*#that's literally the only thing I've been doing for years' before I started taking commissions#and I've gotten pretty far just from that lmao#anyways' huuuge tangent lmao' but thank you for the ask' I hope it helped at least a little bit ❤️
