okay so ☝️ earlier this morning i rewatched the music video for one of will wood's songs called 'love, me normally' (comma placement is important i promise!!) and i am. still thinking about it this mv makes me CRAZY every time....

okay so basically. 'love, me normally' is the second to last song on will wood's 2020 album called 'the normal album' (it was remastered last year!! now under the name 'the new normal' with the new version being rerecords of the original songs and includes some live in studio demos of some of the songs on the album!!) and the thing with ☝️ second to last songs on will wood albums is that these songs always feel like they Should be the end of the album it's very inchresting...

(the rest of this is under a cut for good reason!!!! this got incredibly long I'm very sorry fbdhdbd but under the cut i yap about the major themes of the normal album (little sidenote on suburbia overture), how 'love, me normally' ties into these, and the imagery in the song's music video :D)

the second to last songs are usually the climax of the themes explored throughout the album (the normal album follows a major theme about conformity, and there's a bit of tradition vs. progressiveness that's pushed in there as well... a lot of will's music follows themes of mental illness as well due to his own experiences and that is Also very present in the normal album it's just. augh it's SO peak) and the last song is usually quite a bit more reflective and different in character to the rest of the album (the final song on this album is called 'memento mori'!! you Might recognise some bits of it?? the remastered edition of memento mori makes a reference to the layout of will's albums being Like This so it's nice to know that it's on purpose :3)

ANYWAY. anyway. i have gotten this far without even talking about the song yet what... so anyway :3

'love, me normally' is the climax of this theme of conformity - the narrator (who is probably just supposed be will wood himself but i'll call them The Narrator just to avoid confusion lol) pushes this idea that they just want to be loved for Who They Are, instead of needing to change to fit into societal standards

(this comes back to the comma placement i mentioned earlier!! the first song on this album, 'suburbia overture' (you may have noticed me losing my mind over this song many times i love it so much) has different names for each of its sections, and the final section is called 'love me, normally'! note the comma being in a different place this time - 'suburbia overture' works as. well. as an overture for the whole album (who would have guessed??) and this final section of it uses the same motifs as 'love, me normally' goes on to use later in the album :) the different placement of the comma in this title places more emphasis on 'normally', which ties into the theme of normality and conformity introduced in the first two sections of 'suburbia overture', which also sets the theme up for the rest of the album)

(took a Big Ol Break from writing this as i had the Dreaded Things To Do Today... i've reread what i've written but just. apologies if anything sounds Disjointed it has been about 8 hours </3)

the scenario the song is put into is that of a talk show!! this is interesting from the Very Beginning i like to think :) the little wwatv (i believe this is supposed to be a play on the commonly-used acronym for will's band, will wood and the tapeworms!! (i could yap about the tapeworms forever i fear but. different can of tapeworms for a different time......) it makes me very happy) graphic at the beginning (i keep meaning to screencap this and use it as my laptop background...) says that this is Televised Live! which just highlights being in the Public Eye... being Perceived... could tie into an idea of Everyone Watching Your Every Move (another theme that's explored in this album!! listen to '...well, better than the alternative' for me please <3 also the mention of mary bell township in this graphic ties it back to what's set up in suburbia overture and links into what i just said too i wanted to mention this bc i love this callback but didn't know how to put it in djahkdha)

so. the Talk Show. one Interesting Thing that happens almost straight away is that after will is introduced by the talk show host and walks on, he confidently puts forward his left hand for the host to shake, while the host offers his right hand... social blunder? or representative of will's failure to fit into societal norms? (THAT SOUNDS SO MEAN I JUST. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN LMAO)

so! very quickly this Talk Show Facade (english lit flashbacks... i've been yapping about facades for the past 2 years...) falls and it becomes a Performance... becomes will's Stage... the viewer watches him come more into his element as this facade drops and this is shown to you through pretty much everything in this section of the video - one part i particularly like is the musicians! there are three other musicians in this music video (who i'm pretty sure are some of the original members of the tapeworms!! mario conte my goat forever and ever <3) and they play the intro of the song as will comes on... it looks very passion-less (? you know what i mean)... but as the tone shifts they visibly become much more passionate and happy and it's just. i love watching it every time :)

now then. in the middle of the song will has a little monologue (now this is the part of the song where i like to talk to my audience...) which i love very dearly <3 i mainly wanted to focus on what Happens in the video at this point just because it's so good......

up to this point the Talk Show Setting has become Increasingly Strange. we've had lighting changes, rats on the interviewer's table (i believe they're will's own pets!!), and additions of many many decorations (the flowers are a personal favourite <3) but ☝️ at This Point!! when we get to the quicker part of the monologue!! it all devolves into Chaos. bright neon lights....... decorations go Crazy..... they rope the interviewer into it all...... the band fucking jumps on each other??? ykw hell yeah- but! throughout all this we keep switching Back To the original setting where we started...... with the interviewer doubled over on his desk and fucking dying..... people in the comments of the music video interpreted this as the facade continuing to break, i like to think it has something to do with the stifling of individuality that this song deals with but in? reverse?? if you know what i mean??? like the Vulnerability (?) that we're shown in this song (THE BIT BEFORE THE FINAL CHORUS. HELLO. I WON'T LYRIC DUMP BUT. AUGH) is far too much! far too different! for this society that we're shown time and time again throughout this album... and it just. fucking kills him. i guess.

BUT !!!!! EVEN THOUGH THE SONG IS FINISHED !!!!!!! WE'RE NOT DONE YET !!!!!!

the best (see: most emotionally devastating) part of this music video is Right At The End !!! turns out that the talk show host Was Not In Fact a talk show host... he was in fact will's psychiatrist. this whole thing !!!!! has been an appointment with will's psychiatrist. drives me CRAZY EVERY TIME

there are Millions of things in this Final Scene of the music video that kill me dead so i will try and sum it up quickly. basically at the end of the song with the piano outro it's a Gradual Fade between will sat at the (fake?) piano in the Talk Show and will sat in the psychiatrist's office, just playing the air piano... idk what it is about this shot but it makes me fucking CRAZY..... maybe it's the fact that it's just his hands?? we don't see will's face until he sits back and the psychiatrist starts talking... but even then you just Can't Name the expression on his face and it makes me. omfuckingcheese. augh. augh augh augh

so. the psychiatrist is a Little Bitch (PROBABLY NOT. BUT THIS IS HOW IT COMES ACROSS) and just. dismisses Everything will has said in the song. calls the symptoms 'normal' (FUCK !!!!!!!) for people with cluster-b personalities. and the only thing he really does is say that he'll increase the medication and they'll have another appointment......... it's just. i just wanted to SAY this bit because really the scene does the talking for itself it's just. augh.

special shout-out to the Millions Of Pill Bottles on the psychiatrist's desk that we see here because i always notice them and it always makes me crazy... we actually saw these pill bottles before because they were added alongside the one million decorations onto the talk show host's desk but they're only Just in frame it's very easy to miss them.....i haven't thought much about what this could mean but it could be the Real World seeping back through maybe??

i think the fact that it's So Many is also significant... with how the psychiatrist mentions boosting the medication and will just having No Reaction to it in the final scene could imply that they've just done this So Many Times... it's always this back and forth... this sense of frustration with the established system (especially in terms of mental health and those associated services) really comes through in a few songs in this album ('marsha, thankk you for the dialectics, but i need you to leave' is one that comes to mind) so i think this could be supporting that idea for lack of a better phrase ajsldasdlj

Following up on that old ask about Zoan children turning feral, I've found a way to combine that with the Seraphim.

Do you recall Hanafuda? The warlord who Ace defeated and was replaced by Kuma. The guy whose hobby is collecting Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits and whose epithet "King of Lizards" implies he has (had?) the T Rex zoan.

Safe to say there's a high likelihood the World Government is still in possession of Hanafuda's DNA , which meant a Seraphim in his likeness was produced as part of the reserve lineup consisting of Nemo and potentially Weevil and Law.

While the locations of S-Weevil and S-Leopard are still unknown, S-Rex was released at the same time as Nemo but was left behind on Egghead after the World Government extracted all the resources from the island post-Buster Call.

Months of roaming alone through this charred futuristic jungle and scrounging off whatever food from the machines and dead sea beasts he could find reduced S-Rex to operating purely on instinct. His puffy hair became matted and dirty, the rest of his body even more so because he hadn't been fitted for clothes like the other Seraphim before being released from his containment tank.

He can't control when he switches back and forth between his zoan and Lunarian form, but even when in the latter he walks with his upper body in a horizonal position and his arms tucked close to his chest like a T Rex. His wings flop uselessly at his side because he has no idea how to control his wing muscles and no clue of how to fly.

S-Rex can only communicate through screaming, growls, and chuffs. His aggression is growing by the day, in large part because he's not eating anything else but meat and he's wracked with digestive issues.

Needless to say, he's not much prone to genetic memories like the other Seraphim. Except when Dragon and Sabo are doing recon of Egghead months after the World Government has dropped their guard, the sight of Sabo's flames fills little S-Rex with rage and fear like nothing has before.

Which brings us to Sabo fighting the dinosaur who's actually a 4-5 year old kid who is probably going to be next on Dragon's adoption list. Although I'm kind of tempted to put him with King since Hanafuda is theorized to have been the broker for the Beast Pirates before Doflamingo and really King needs a Seraphim to care for bc all of the others already have adopted families.

The poor kid…

Dragon’s done well to put restrictions on his bleeding heart over the years. He saves who he can and tries anyway for those he can’t… but he typically doesn’t take them in. Sabo was a special case in the sense that the boy had worse than nothing to go back to, and would have fought tooth and nail against the world with or without the Revs’ support.

And the kid had imprinted on him, and Dragon was- is- still grieving…

And this child that’s been picking through wreckage and ruin, that had no chance to develop properly, had no sense of personality because the fight to survive took all of his effort and left nothing to spare for developing one…

And it just so happens that the Tyrannosaurus Rex - let’s assume it is as closely related to the modern day chicken as current paleoscience theorizes for this hypothetical- imprints like a chick. And this poor boy sees him call Sabo- his nightmare incarnate- off of him. And the fire goes away.

The man stopped the fire.

The man is safe.

And suddenly Dragon has a little winged T-rex chick huddling up to him like he’s looking for warmth. A return trip to the Wind Granma and a zoan transformation later, the little dinosaur is cuddled up against a very broody Amaru.

King might not be getting this one right away.

It takes a long time for him to trust Sabo, but by the time he can communicate well enough, the two talk about pyrophobia. A shared fear the both of them have. Ironic that the Flame Emperor of the Revolutionary Army is afraid of the very element that he is made of…

A side note, too: do you think S-Rex would be terrified of the Lunarian fire on his back? Running from it all the time? It flaring up because he’s scared and making him even more scared?

Then they show up to interviews without a real understanding of their character arcs or endings and just throw out headcanons. Annoying? Yes. But it happens. It was annoying when Tom said Aegon was an empath (and his fans went wild, claiming he’s the only one who "gets him"). Emma, for the most part, provides a fairly neutral take on Rhaenyra. Sure, they’ve had moments where they veer into headcanon territory, but it’s not the worst I’ve seen. Then again, who wouldn’t start slipping after being asked the same question a thousand times: “What do you think your character felt when…?” 🙄 Out of the whole cast, Matthew Needham is one of the few who actually seems to understand his character. He doesn’t mock the role, try to justify actions, or force “good” qualities over the bad ones; he just presents his character as it is.

I haven't watched any interviews after the puppy one, that one with the black backdrop where Fabien and Matt were uncontrollably laughing, and one group one where Matt said he'd protect Emma in a different time period. And I haven't gone back for S1 interviews, so I wouldn't know about Emma's patterns there too well. But I have had the impression from clips on TikTok that it is as you describe, to the point that some people thought that they were a little wishy-washy to please the actor of Alicent (forgot her name) bc they were in their begiining of their friendship and we were all still in the midst of the show's pushing antiDaemonism/pro-Alicentism for Rhaenyra's popularity, which...never made any sense.

And Emma not looking like how GRRM describes Rhaenyra should really only refer to her (Rhaenyra's) clothing, bc acting is a priority over looks when considering fancasting. The person can be the "perfect" mirror of the official small-mouthed, plump Rhaenyra but if they can't act or portray Rhaenyra's character it's been a complete waste, esp when it's the MC. Makes the whole thing far less enjoyable or plain intolerable. And in general, fancasting/casting is not going to be perfect in terms of looks fitting those either detailed to T in the original text OR imagined so by one set of the audience from some deatils of the text anyway. It's not ever going to fit everyone's perfect idea of what the character looks like OR, again, fit the exact truely detailed accout from the text itself. No one looks like a "canon" Targ except maybe an albino, and even then we know Targs typically had "gold" (yellow/blonde) AND "silver" (white, NOT gray!) hair tendrils or has purple eyes (not dark blue that could pass as such, true purple).

So again, what we should consider is how the actor acts, what is written for them to base such acting on, and finally how the costumers/producers decided how this character dresses.

So there appears to be just some more possible transphobia here.

The current priority is the one going by "Zuko Sees Sokka Fucked Up" lol bc @witchering10123 wrote the most beautifully painful Whumptober series about Hakoda and Sokka just Going Through It and I wanted to write the last two entries from Zuko's perspective when Sokka gets found because I think that would be so good and I love pain and suffering!!

Let's see... Modern Taiwan AU is the one I'm most excited about! This will be a long one and I've never written a modern AU before but basically it's based on SKAM (particularly season 3 of Druck) so it's like a cute trans love story BUT it is also going to have a LOT to do with Taiwan's ghost month and is going to be kind of inspired my Marry My Dead Body hehehehehe

Toxic Jetko I just posted about but basically it's my take on if Zuko and Jet had tried to make things work but it really just wouldn't have. It IS based kind of note for note on a real relationship I've had in the past because the dynamic was way too Jetko and I was like wow wouldn't that be a great fanfic actually

(how terrible it is) to love something death can(‘t) touch is a FUCKING. VAMPIRE AU!!! and it's so so so far from being ready but it's uhhhhh basically like if IWTV was about Zukka and Izumi. So there is some Divorced Zukka in there and also references to asshole Zhao in flashbacks... It's going to be angsty and exciting, but probably also pretty long

i will not be great, but I’m grateful to get through is a very niche sequel to if i fade away (the awful things we do to make the head go quiet) because that is a Dead Dove fic with a cliffhanger ending and I'm excited for the healing that we will see in the sequel but it does deal with heavy shit so I haven't been super quick at writing it. It does fix the Big Problem we saw in the first one though.

ZAtD Katara Arc - So when I wrote Zuko Amongst the Dragons I rushed it a bit too much and I love the universe that has been created for it so I want to go back and revisit some stuff. I skipped over the Puppetmaster and the Southern Raiders episodes in the plot and I thought it would be cool to write something with that like a deleted scene where Dragon Zuko is with Katara dealing with these terrible things

ZAtD Izumi Epilogue - I couldn't fit this into the main story BUT I want to write like a 5-10 years later snapshot of Zukka so happy with Druk and Izumi and kind of revisit how Zuko is dealing with his humanness, and is he the Fire Lord or nah?

ZAtD Divorce Epilogue - This would be way later but I'm obsessed with the idea of Divorced Zukka BUT with their psychic connection from their Dragon Bond and like what would happen any time they get into a room together hehe

ZAtD Extended Torture Scene - This is just because I had so many ideas for when Azula interrogates Sokka at the Boiling Rock that I left out of the original fic bc it kind of disrupted the tone but I DO like whump and angst so I WOULD like to finish what I had kind of wanted for that scene muahahaha

oh man. when ieriyn was like 11 or 12 he got into an argument with his older brother that resulted in a wild surge that burned down a wing of their manor and left his brother badly injured. thankfully the fire was contained fairly quickly and ieriyn and his brother were the only ones hurt (and ieriyn not even all that badly) it was far from his first wild surge (that was when he accidentally turned his older sister and one of the cats on their estate into ducks when he was really young) but it was the first one that made him really truly afraid of what he's capable of.

funny answer for ieriyn as well: the time he got caught trying to sneak back into his house drunk after sneaking out with a couple of friends when he was like 16 and one of house staff found him in the bushes trying to figure out how to cast levitate to get back to the second floor window. the staff member ratted him out to his dad and he was in trouble for weeeeks

25. What is your favorite thing about your OC?

xarrai:

xarrai is my baby i love everything about them and they've never done anything wrong in their whole life. no notes. okay but honestly though, and i guess this is less about Them specifically but whatever, i really like the way their story fits into the plotline of the game and into the world as it stands. i really lucked into it honestly bc i was making shit up as i went but they slot so well into the world and mesh well with the party and their personal story feels just similar enough to the other characters' that it works. and part of that is because i have just stolen a bunch of pieces of the durge plot and made it bane flavored so of course it's going to work, but i also only did that because that's the direction their story was starting to take anyway. also i love bards i love little guys who make music and tell stories because i'm a little guy who makes music and tells stories :) i don't talk about that part of xar's life as much on tumblr dot com bc i'm busy talking about them fucking nasty or arguing with astarion but like. they truly do love playing music and singing songs and telling stories and writing their own poetry and ballads it's and they looooove the attention of performing tbqh :) i love bards :))))

i am constantly constantly constantly rotating the ascended!astarion/absolute!xarrai au in my mind. granted i have basically no idea how the absolute ending actually goes because i haven't played or watched it myself so it's all like vague squishy ideas and Vibes in my head but i am deeeeeply obsessed with it. i'm not sure what series of events would have to happen for it to actually play out, because honestly with xarrai's anger issues and codependency with astarion i think the most likely outcome of him ascending is them flying off the handle and more or less forcing him into killing them (a very "if we can't be better than what made us i'm at least gonna try to take you down with me" vibe) BUT. assuming they do not. i could see xarrai looking at astarion's ascension as more or less confirmation that they also have no chance at true freedom and they may as well embrace what they have and so they turn back to bane. there's lore here i am Not going to explain bc it would take like four paragraphs of rambling but the crux of it is like. they Are in canon offered a chance to regain bane's favor in act 3 so there is precedent here and a way it would work plot wise for their story i think.

anyway i think they don't actually tell anyone Aside from gortash that they are back on their banite bullshit and they do actually let astarion turn them because they know it will lull him into a false sense of security and let him feel like he's won. they know the tadpole will preserve their free will and they're not too concerned about actually being vampire spawn because they Have A Plan. so they play the long game and let astarion believe he owns them and start playing out all his little power fantasies until they get to the morphic pool. the whole time they're telling everyone they're going to kill gortash when they get there and by the time anyone realizes they're lying it's too late :) and then. idk what happens bc idk how the absolute ending works other than gortash beefs it at some point. (which works well bc xarrai was DEFINITELY gonna betray him asap. he's a weak tyrant if he's willing to share that power w/anyone but bane himself. that's Tyranny 101) but the general idea is that xarrai and astarion become each others' worst nightmares and are locked in a toxic power struggle astarion has no hope of winning while the world around them descends into chaos. they both embrace what they were meant to be and make everything infinitely worse for it. :) in my ideal world there would be a way for xarrai to use the netherbrain to usurp bane himself and then destroy the brain after (or maybe for them to just recover and reforge the crown of karsus on their own and skip becoming the absolute/using the brain entirely who knows) and it would be a kinda god gale situation because like. the important part for them is not dominating every realm it's destroying what hurt them and on the top of that list is 1. bane and 2. astarion. and i think the dynamic that would exist between god of tyranny!xarrai and ascended!astarion would be like. delicious. he prayed to all the gods and none answered except the one he made with his own two hands. :) he thought he could own them and instead he's at their mercy :) they put their faith in him as their second chance at freedom and when he let them down they decided to make the same choice he did :)

as a bonus i think gale would be fucking livid if xarrai gave him their whole big speech about Not Becoming A God only to literally turn around and become a god. like that would be really fucking funny.
