Mentioned that people I know have been hurt by Christianity in a majority Christian discord server. And. Response I got was that it wasn't likely actual Christianity, it was just things associated, it was the people around them not 'behaving biblically' and the like. And.
No offence to them and I understand where they're coming from but.
I am one of those people I was talking about.
The things I'm talking about that have hurt me are things that people they would consider good, 'biblical' people have done. The beliefs that have hurt me are considered 'biblical' and recently in a discussion someone else even questioned if people who don't agree with the beliefs that have hurt me are even Christian. (yes I'm trans yes I'm christian deal with it.) So yeah when I say Christianity there are people who believe that these are very Christian beliefs.
And I get it. Hearing that beliefs you hold can hurt people isn't fun or easy or nice. But immediately jumping to "you're wrong, people can't have been hurt by that" when the person saying that is one of the people that has been hurt kinda sucks.
(And yeah a lot comes from people not behaving in a Christlike way and from Christian culture rather than actual Christian beliefs, but there's a point when you just lump them together and accept that some aspects of the culture stem from the beliefs. Which sucks. But yes your beliefs themselves can hurt other people, whether you believe they are 'biblical' or not.)
(And you can be Christian and have religious trauma from it. I've been hurt, dunno if there's trauma, and I'm still Christian.)
