Saw some trad account with an Oswald Mosley profile picture posting about how 'if only hymns like this could be heard in our churches again' in reference to the great Watersons' recording of the Primitive Methodist hymn 'I have a sweet hope of glory in my soul/the good old way'. What do you mean Again? Unless you went to a primitive Methodist church, which very few people ever did, them bring the minority tendency of the minority tendency within English Protestantism, you did not get hymns which sounded like that (i.e. which used folk tunes, simple harmonies and very simplistic language to describe eternal truths). The Church of England, as well as the main current within Methodism, always preferred to use classical tunes and western art music and choral traditions as the model for their hymns. There is no great past of church music to RETVRN to where singing sounded like a folk hymnal, you fucking Nazi idiot.
