Wait so like... to all the people with 20+ first cousins, HOW MANY AUNTS AND UNCLES???
#the most normal number based on population trends (at least in the uk) should be 12#because the average family has around 3 children#so two aunts/uncles on each side (for a total of four)#the modal number of cousins should be 3x4=12#and it makes sense to me that the ACTUAL mode is slightly lower because in most cases there will be families who struggle to conceive#or don't want kids#or aren't married and never started a family#or just stopped at one or two#AND YET. THE MASSIVE JUMP AT 20+#really makes me wonder whether the growth point is “number of aunts and uncles” or “number of kids each one has”#anyway I've got 10 first cousins and 6 first cousins once removed (plus one step-first-cousin-once-removed)
