Well, that tweet is sort of true. Sort of true, because the Houthis claim the reason they're launching these attacks is to prevent any resources from reaching Israel.
But in reality, the U.S. and the UK carried out these attacks to protect their own economic interests, not Israel's. The Houthis airstrikes aren't just hitting israel-bound or even israel-connected ships. That strait they're bombing sees quite a bit of economic traffic; according to NPR, 10% of all oil traded at sea passes through it, and the u.s. government claims about $1 trillion in goods passes through it every year.
It's a shit ton of money belonging to a shit ton of states and corporations, which is why more than 20 countries are now involved in trying to protect the cargo ships moving through the strait (ABC).
So yeah, the U.S. and the UK are bombing iran-backed militants in Yemen, and yeah, the only reason u.s. troops haven't been killed in this clusterfuck and thus supercharged it so far is sheer dumb luck on both sides. But they're not doing it because of Israel, they're doing it for money. aka "economic interests." Or maybe it's a little bit about Israel, but only insomuch as supporting Israel is also about money.
#boy let's please not go to war with iran. please#also please stop supporting israel but that wish is less likely to get fulfilled#anyway! don't forget u.s. foreign policy is all about money#the reason houthis are involved is israel committing genocide; but the reason the u.s. is bombing shit is just money
