concentrating hard and slowly compiling a list of the things that hurt starting with the soles of my feet and working upward. only for it to become increasingly clear that it would be faster and more efficient to simply list things that Don't hurt,

Thoughts on that trend on tiktok and IG of people feeding their horses fruit rope candy and doughnuts, candy bars, and cheetos?? It drives me crazy but everyone says irs fine because it's a small amount-.-
Honestly, it usually is fine in small amounts. I had a pony that loved licorice. I had one that would get a pumpkin muffin after horse shows. Lots of them like apple cider donuts ginger snaps and carrot cake. Peppermints are a common treat for horses, You shouldn't feed horses chocolate, potatoes, avocados, or caffeine. You also shouldn't feed them lawn clippings because of potential hazards from chemicals and potential for botulism. Bear in mind the daily calorie intake for a horse is more than ten times that of the average human just for maintance (15000 calories) and their stomachs can hold 10-20 gallons (and that is considered small for animals of their size)
Also beer. A lot of people think it's weird that horses can have beer but for some horses its actually medicinal. Horses can sometimes get a condition known as anhydrosis which is when they aren't able to produce enough sweat. As a treatment we often give horses a can or two of Guinness twice a day to help them sweat more and to help lower their body temperature. Brewers grains and yeast are common supplements to help horses with digestive health as they act as a probiotic.
For cheetos in particular, sure horses really shouldn't eat dairy (because lactose) but its a corn chip. Corn is an ingredient of most horse feeds anyways.
Most of those things don't have anything horses can't eat; sugars, their diet is mostly carbohydrates and plant based sugars, horses are herbivores but they can eat animal based protein like eggs, gelatin (a common additive to joint supplements), or krill/fish oils, vegetable oils are a typical additive to feed (though you shouldn't overloaded them with fats as horses don't actually have gallbladder so they cant store bile, which means they can't break down large quantities of fat in one go)
Corn and wheat are in a lot of horse feeds (though they are Inflammatory and toxic if moldy so you do want to weigh the risks and only feed as absolutely needed if using them as a regular feed)
Just for perspective, my 1400lbs mare eats about 4 pounds of a feed with molasses, wheat, and soy as a calorie source, roughly 5 lbs of Alfalfa hay, 36 lbs of grass hay, a half pound of ground flax seed, and she spends all night nibbling on grass (which is sugary compared to hay). Thats A LOT of food.
For supplements she gets apple cider vinegar, garlic, and grape seed extract. Pretty much all of those are toxic to dogs but horses can have them and even benefit from them. They have anti-inflammatory effects that help horses with arthritis, and allergies as well as helping to repel flies

HEY BESTIE I LOVE THE PROMPTS 21 86 94 114 128 146!!! ❤️❤️
OMG HI BESTIE!
Thank you for submitting these! I plan to get to the others, too, but to start, here's prompt 21! @1soff also submitted this prompt, with a bit of flavor to it. I hope you both enjoy this non-canon bit with Joel and Doc!
Outside
A run outside the QZ leads to a confession.
Based on Prompt 21: "I fucking hate you"
Tumblr media
Pairing: Joel Miller x Female Reader (Lavender pairing)
Warnings: Canon-typical violence. No use of Y/N. Minors DNI 18+ only.
Length: 2.4K
“You’d better be almost done,” Joel growled, pacing.
“Oh, hold your horses,” you rolled your eyes, going to the next row of medication. You felt him glare at you through the grate separating the pharmacy from the rest of the store. “Not like you’ve got something waiting for you in the QZ to get back to…”
Being outside the QZ with just Joel was strange. You’d been going on more and more runs lately but it was always with Joel and Tess or just Tess. Joel tended to avoid you like the plague.
Which was fine by you. He so obviously hated you that it was hard to be anywhere near him. The glares, the stiff limbs, the fact that you wanted him anyway. It wasn’t fun.
Going with Tess meant there was a buffer. You and Tess had developed a kind of rapport - maybe not friends but at least friendly. Enough that Joel was usually there as silent muscle that you could pretend wasn’t there at all - or you could if you weren’t hyperaware of his every move.
But Tess was sick - the flu that had developed into bronchitis - and you’d all but demanded that she stay home.
“Why?” She demanded as she went into another coughing fit.
“For starters,” you’d said as you got some anti-inflammatories out of the bag you’d brought to Joel’s apartment to check on her after she’d been down for the count for weeks. “You’re coughing too much. Clicker will hear you from miles out and then you’re fucked. More importantly, if you don’t watch yourself, this could turn into chronic bronchitis. If you never shake it, you won’t be well enough to do any runs ever again. And, just a wild guess here, but that’s not what you’re after.”
“Not exactly,” she coughed again.
“Then listen to your doctor,” you said, slinging your bag on your arm. “And delay the run a few weeks instead of getting yourself killed.”
“Can’t,” she took a shaky breath. “We’re on a deadline and we’re pushing it already… You two will have to go without me.”
“No,” snapped Joel, his arms crossed, shaking his head. “No way in hell I’m haulin’ her around outside the QZ on my own. She’s a fuckin’ liability…”
“Joel,” she snapped before coughing again. “This is the deal, she makes it so we don’t die from getting fucked up out there, we take her out when she wants to go. So fucking deal with it.”
He glared at you.
“Are you planning to go back to that town anytime soon?” You asked. “Or another one where I can raid a pharmacy within the next month?”
“Probably not,” Tess said, her breath rattling in her lungs. “Jesus, I feel like shit…”
“Then you’re stuck with me, Miller,” you shrugged. “Sorry to continue to be such a disappointment…”
He ground his teeth and stalked off to his bedroom.
“Still such a charmer,” you said sarcastically. Tess laughed and then coughed. “Take it easy, OK? You’ve made it this far, you don’t get to just keel over from bronchitis. You should at least… I don’t know… Go out in a fight with infected or something. While saving a kid. Really amp up the heroism.”
She smiled.
“I’ll do my best.”
It had been you and Joel on your own for four days now as you worked your way down the coastline. It was a gorgeous view, at least, with the sound of seagulls and waves on the rocky shore and the smell of salt making you almost forget you had a gun at your hip and your surly ex-boyfriend at your back.
“We’ve been here too fuckin’ long already,” he snapped.
“Is there a reason you’re worried or are you just trying really hard to ruin my day?” You asked, opening a bottle and looking at the pills inside. They looked to be in good shape and high quantity. You stuck it in your pack.
“There are signs of people all over this fuckin’ town,” he snapped. “There shouldn’t be, from what we knew, there shouldn’t be a goddamn soul around. So I’d like for you to stop fuckin’ around so we can get moving.”
You checked the last few bottles and went back to the grate over the counter.
“Alright, Miller,” you said. “Get me out of here and we can head out.”
Joel pried the metal up and open and you climbed on the counter, sliding below it, before Joel dropped it and it slammed back down.
“Lucky you could even get back there,” he muttered. “Shouldn’t keep comin’ on runs like this, you’re just slowin’ us down and it ain’t worth it.”
“Tell that to the patients whose anxiety medications I just snagged for the next few months,” you said, smug. He glowered after you, pushing past you and out onto the street. The ocean was churning, dark clouds swelling overhead, the wind making the strands of hair that had come loose from your French braid swirling around your head. You just hoped you’d make it to a good stopping point before a storm blew in.
Joel seemed particularly paranoid as you started back toward Boston. You’d picked up whatever he’d had to come out here for - he’d made you stand near the rusting cash registers of the small storefront he’d gone into while he went into the back because “who the fuck knows what’s back there and I don’t want to get my throat ripped out worryin’ about you” - and you’d also managed to grab some things that were more fun, too. Some more books for your classroom, some DVDs to sell on the black market in the QZ, some jewelry that would fetch a decent price from the few FEDRA people who could afford it.
It had been a successful run so far. Of course Joel wanted to try to cut your portion of it as short as possible.
“See?” You said as you neared the edge of town. “All that worry over nothing…”
“Don’t fuckin’ jinx it,” he replied, not looking at you. You rolled your eyes just as a man emerged from a house at the edge of town. You steps stuttered to a stop and Joel’s arm swept out and all but threw you behind him before both hands were on his rifle.
“Hey stranger,” the man ahead of you called, drawing closer. Joel raised the gun. “What’s bringing you through our neck of the woods?”
“Just passin’ through,” Joel snapped. “Best let us keep passin’.”
“Afraid I can’t do that,” the man said, a few more men joining him as you peered around Joel’s arm. “You’re in our territory…”
“Fuck your territory,” Joel snapped. “So fuckin’ worried about it, let us through.”
“There’s shit there that we’re after,” the man said.
“So?” Joel snapped.
“Can’t let you through if you’ve got it,” he shrugged. “So you can give us your packs…”
“Fuck you.”
“Or we can take ‘em off your cold, dead bodies,” he continued. “Up to you.”
“Joel,” you hissed, sticking close behind him.
“Shut up,” he snapped at you before turning his attention back to the man. “Ain’t happenin’. I don’t have a problem killing every last one of you, so do yourselves a fuckin’ favor and let us pass.”
The man looked back to his men, saying something. Joel looked back at you.
“I tell you what to do, you fuckin’ do it,” he said, voice low. “Understand me?”
“Yeah,” you swallowed, hard. There was a crack of thunder overhead.
“Good,” he muttered, looking straight ahead again.
The men started forward, rifles in hand. As they drew closer, two levied them at Joel. He adjusted his grip on his weapon. You took a shaky breath.
“Gonna need your packs,” the man said, stopping just 20 feet away from you and Joel.
“Run!” Joel yelled as he started shooting.
You listened, taking off for the nearest shelter you could see, Joel moving the same direction as he fired.
“Hide!” He yelled over his shoulder at you as you ducked behind a waist-high wall around a yard. Thunder cracked and rain started to fall as you watched Joel get hit in the shoulder, knocking him back.
“Joel!” You yelled, instinctively running for him, the sound of gunshots making you flinch. He fired two more shots, dropping the last two men just as you reached him, pulling him to his feet just as the sky opened.
“The fuck were you thinkin’?” He snapped as he struggled to his feet. “I told you to fuckin’ hide!”
“Yeah, well,” you snapped back. “Too damn bad.”
The two of you went into the nearest house. You dropped Joel onto the couch and drew the curtains in case there were any more men out there. It was dumping rain now, the branches of the trees outside whipping in the wind.
“How fuckin’ stupid are you?” Joel snapped as you helped him take his shirt off to look at his shoulder. You ignored him, going into your bag for your supplies. “Hey! I asked you a goddamn question!”
“What, you want me to just leave you to die in the street?” You snapped. You sat beside him and gingerly touched around the bullet wound to assess it. He hissed in pain, gritting his teeth.
“The rules are you listen to me when we’re out here!” He yelled. “I’m not gonna keep haulin’ you around if you’re gonna be that fuckin’ dumb!”
“If I’m so dumb maybe you don’t want me pulling a bullet out of your shoulder,” you soaked gauze in alcohol and started cleaning the wound.
“You’re a fuckin’ burden out here,” his eyes were narrowed, hard. “Can’t shoot, can’t listen, you’re useless!”
You gritted your teeth against the tears that were welling up and threatening to choke you.
“I’m good at putting you back together when you fuck up!” You snapped as you pressed fresh gauze to the wound and taped it into place.
“Wouldn’t need you to if you weren’t so fuckin’ stupid!” He yelled. “And I’m tired of always having to take care of you!”
You sat back from him, not able to stop the tears now. He looked so upset but he was still Joel.  You’d been clinging to him for so long. For so long that it felt like it was your entire life. But it hurt so much now, loving him. Being anywhere near him was painful, so much that it felt like something was taking you apart from the inside out. You knew he didn’t care about you like that anymore but, for some reason, you thought he’d always at least respect you. Think you were worth something. For so long it had seemed like he was the only person who thought you were worth something and, it turned out, you were wrong.
You were so tired of it. You were ready to be done with it, done with all of it.
“Stay put,” Joel snapped, getting up and grabbing his shirt before he went deeper into the house.
You ignored him, throwing on your backpack and going out the front door.
There were no signs of any other men, at least, but it was pouring rain and you were soaked in seconds. The wind whipped around you, strong enough that it made you stumble a bit. You wondered idly if it was a hurricane. That would be appropriate, you thought. With some luck it would take you out to sea and you wouldn’t have to deal with anything else. Wouldn’t have to deal with the fact that Joel hated you so viscerally, wouldn’t have to deal with the fact that you wished you could hate him too, wouldn’t have to deal with the fact that you still loved him so much in spite of it all that you’d let him bleed you dry if he just asked.
“Hey!” He yelled from behind you. You ignored him and kept walking. “Stop!”
“Fuck off, Joel!” You yelled back over your shoulder. “Leave me the hell alone!”
“The hell do you think you’re going?” He snapped, catching up to you and standing in front of you, grabbing you by the shoulders. “I told you to stay put!”
“And I told you to leave me the hell alone!” You threw his hands off you and ducked around him.
“Hey!” He yelled again, catching you a lot quicker this time, ripping you around to face him. He was dripping wet, hair soaked. “You tryin’ to get yourself fuckin’ killed?”
“The fuck does it matter to you for!” You yelled back. “You made it perfectly clear what you think of me…”
“Get back in the fucking house!”
“NO!” You shoved him back, tears welling up again. “I’m done! I’m done doing this with you, Joel! I love you so goddamn much that I hate it! I hate you! I fucking hate you!”
“Well I don’t hate you!” He yelled back, breathless. You just stared at him. “So just come back…”
“What do you mean you don’t hate me?” You asked, wiping the rain and tears from your eyes.
“The hell do you think I mean?” He snapped.
“I don’t know! You just got done telling me how useless you think I am!” You yelled. It felt good to yell at him, to do SOMETHING besides just love him without being loved in return. “You do nothing but try to shove me away from you, you avoid me as much as you possibly can…”
“Because I can’t handle fuckin’ losing you!” He yelled back, panting for breath. He closed his eyes for a second, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes for a moment, calming himself down. “I can’t… I can’t handle losing you, I can’t… I can’t survive that. I don’t want you out here because I can’t watch you get hurt, can’t watch you die. I… I love you too much, I can’t do it.”
“You love me?” You asked, voice soft, stepping closer to him.
“Can’t lose you,” he said, taking your face in his hands. “Please…”
You leaned into him slowly, gently, and kissed him. His lips were delicate but desperate on yours, all the years of denying each other passing between you in that moment.
“Please come inside,” he said, barely pulled back from you. “At least until the rain is done. Please, Baby.”
You nodded.
“Let’s go inside,” you said. “I think we have a lot to talk about.”

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.  The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

Walter Einenkel at Daily Kos:
The line between the MAGA fringe and the Republican Party continues to blur as Donald Trump’s surrogates participate in the preemptive “rigged” election conspiracy theories that he is peddling before Election Day. Former presidential anti-vaxxer candidate-turned Trump supporter Robert F. Kennedy Jr. jumped on the counterprogramming Wednesday to promote an easily debunked conspiracy theory that’s been making the rounds.
“This is the kind of inflammatory poison that divides our nation and inspires assassins,” Kennedy wrote on social media site X, in response to Vice President Kamala Harris’ press conference where she warned the country about Trump’s fetishism of Nazis. “It’s particularly ironic since Biden/Harris have just pushed through DoD Directive 5240.01 giving the Pentagon power—for the first time in history—to use lethal force to kill Americans on U.S. soil who protest government policies,” Kennedy said. If you’re asking yourself, what the !@#$ is he talking about, you are not alone. As many people in the comments rightly pointed out, DoD Directive 5240.01 is a George W. Bush-era document, from 2007, that does not and never has created the right for the military to employ “lethal force to kill” American protesters.  “The provisions in [the directive] are not new, and do not authorize the Secretary of Defense to use lethal force against U.S. citizens, contrary to rumors and rhetoric circulating on social media,” Sue Gough, a Department of Defense spokesperson told The War Horse.  The outlet also explained that while it was true that the Pentagon updated the 22-page document in late September, military policies are routinely updated—as DoD Directive 5240.01 was previously updated under the Trump administration.
RFK Jr. and far-right grifters are pushing paranoia about DoD Directive 5240.01.

Tumblr media
The following information is from Essential Oils for Beginners: The Guide to Get Started with Essential Oils and Aromatherapy by Althea Press.
DESCRIPTION  Peppermint essential oil is an amazing medicinal with a very strong aroma. It is widely used in a number of commercially produced products, and it makes a fantastic addition to many aromatherapy blends. Peppermint essential oil is derived from the leaves of Mentha piperita. This plant is prolific and easy to cultivate, making peppermint essential oil one of the least expensive on the market. This essential oil has a thin consistency and is typically steam distilled. In aromatherapy, it is used as a top note.
ORIGIN  Egypt, Hungary, United States
PROPERTIES  Analgesic, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, anti- spasmodic, antitumoral, antiviral, digestive
APPLICATION  Peppermint essential oil should be diluted 50:50 with a carrier oil prior to use. It is suitable for direct inhalation, diffusion, topical application, and ingestion.
PRIMARY USES  Soothes aches, pains, and itchy skin, including psoriasis and eczema; eases tension and headaches; soothes respiratory infections and asthma; relieves nausea and other digestive problems; combats viral and fungal infections, including cold Peppermint essential oil provides a wonderful cooling sensation due to the high level of menthol it contains, and when used in a body mist, it provides a fast cooldown. It makes an excellent liniment for relaxing horses ‘muscles, and when horses inhale it prior to a training session, they often focus better. Peppermint essential oil is useful in the creation of nontoxic household products. It is also an aphrodisiac, particularly when diffused. When used in aromatherapy, peppermint essential oil promotes greater mental focus and can help make learning new information easier. It is useful for calming the mind and easing fear. In meditation, this essential oil helps break down resistance concerning new situations; it is also useful for increasing intuitive awareness.
SAFE USE  Conduct a patch test before using peppermint essential oil on your skin. It must be diluted prior to application; blend one part peppermint oil with one part carrier oil before using it in products that will come into contact with your skin. If you get peppermint oil in your eyes or on a cut, expect to feel a severe stinging sensation. Do not apply water, as this will only make the feeling intensify. Flushing the area with a carrier oil will provide relief. Children younger than six years old do not tolerate peppermint essential oil well. Anyone with high blood pressure should avoid contact or ingestion.

Betting horses? Well get this.
Horses’ skeletons don’t finish fusing until they’re five years old.
Most horses are ran to the extremes, treated with painkillers and anti-inflammatories, diuretics, and steroids, at only two years old.
Horses shouldn’t even be started in ground work until the age of two, and the racing industry subjects them to premature ground work and intense training their bodies aren’t ready for. This contributes largely to their deaths on the track. There is zero, ZERO reason, to race horses at the age of 2. They are literally still babies.

Hoo boy, it's been a week.
Hubs finished the final pump house. It's the ugliest of the bunch, but it's just as insulated as the others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Monday brought a freak thunderstorm blowing across the lake that built up hailstones. It rained so hard for 45 minutes straight that we couldn't see past the front doors, and our weather station read almost 2 inches from just that 45 minutes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hailstones were in the last couple of minutes and they made it look like it snowed. The wind threw our feed tent into the trees. It was tied and staked down, but the wind ripped the tabs out of the tent and just flung it.
At the end of the day, when we thought we could rest, one of our horses choked. The vet was called, I rubbed his neck like a madman and managed to clear the choke (and strain my stomach). The vet came out after dark (woo after hours vet bill) and double-checked my work and gave him some anti-inflammatory. He's on mash dinner from now on.
I don't remember much of Tuesday. It passed in a blur of cold and wind. I tried to rest. My dad is having issues and has been in and out of the hospital. My husband was informed that everyone in his company might not get a paycheck this week.
Yesterday, it rained all day. More hail. Bigger hail. The horses got their jackets thrown on. Hubs had to do a hay run in the rain. The feed store didn't have any, so he had to go back and get a compressed bale. I had to start dinner since he was running behind. Im still not ready to be standing that long. I'm healing fine from the surgery, but my muscles need to catch up with me.
It's sunny today. Still cold. Wind is howling. I haven't done much. Friends were supposed to come visit, but things came up.
I'm hoping Friday is uneventful.

Today is one of the days where I'm... kinda scared of the fact my mobility issue is slowly but surely progressive.
When I was 5 I was fine. When I was 10 the anaplasmosis was trying to kill me but my movement was fine otherwise. At 15 I started slowing down: if I hadn't graduated I would've quit track, I rollerbladed to class at college more often than not because it was easier for me than walking. By 20 I was unable to work more than 12hrs a week if it involves being on my feet & regularly using a cane & here at 21 my hands' motor issues are bad enough they've gotten obvious: I write by hand regularly but it's still getting harder, my physical therapy exercises aren't doing as much as they used to, they shake worse more often.
I'm scared of ending up in a wheelchair by the time I'm 30. I'm not scared of wheelchairs, but it's going to end my capability to live at home on the farm & really remove my autonomy and as someone who already is unlikely to be able to live alone I don't want my remaining likelihood to go away.
My audio processing & memory problem is worse, too, and that's the thing that makes everything so terrifying if I think about it. It makes me scared it's neurological. It makes me scared that no medication will fix my pain because it's a problem in my brain and nerves, not my joints or muscles or ligaments.
I want a diagnosis but more than that I want treatment. I don't want to give up the life I grew up in, taking care of these animals, I spent my childhood helping rehabilitate abused or injured horses & dogs because that's what my mom did. I'm hoping we can start testing anti-inflammatory medications since the injection in my knee helped so much, like, 5-7 baseline down to a 2-3 baseline.
I think I'm going to try to make an effort to go to the roller rink on Saturdays more often. Make the most of what I've got, and hope the exercise will buy me more time. Maybe I'll make some acquaintances so I know people that aren't my coworkers or my mom.

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #214
Today did not go at all as expected, probably in one of the most beautiful ways possible.
J and I were supposed to go see some acquaintances of ours, Bv and Pl. They were going to go visit the donkey they are sponsoring, from a place called Equine Advocates. The donkey's name is Pensacola Pete. Then after that, we were supposed to go get a snack somewhere.
Equine Advocates rescues donkeys, horses, and mules from places where they're being mistreated. Then the rescued equines get to live there, in a peaceful, safe place, for the rest of their days. Some time ago, I used to volunteer there, helping to muck out the fields. I remember being strong enough to be out there for hours. Suppose it's a little annoying that with this stupid rib injury, I can probably never return to doing that kind of work.
Well… Bv and Pl I guess decided against going today, without informing J and I. So J and I made the long trip out there, only to find a locked gate waiting for us. That's all right; we'll try again in a month. A new date to meet up was set.
Not knowing what else to do now that we were all the way out there, J and I went to a nearby village called Chatham. A long time ago, when was 12 or so, I used to live in a nearby town called Canaan, in a dumpy little trailer lot. The school district I went to at the time was in Chatham, so a lot of the sights were very familiar. We ate at a place called Bimi's Cheese Shop, and… oh. Sephiroth, everything we got there was SO GOOD, and there were so many interesting things, and so I took a bunch of pictures for you…

I grabbed up from the previous picture one of the regular croissants, one chocolate-filled croissant, and two of those cheddar crackers. I have since eaten half of the chocolate croissant (I split it with M when J and I got home), and one of the cheddar crackers.
This is the place we got lunch from; there are so many kinds of amazing snacks here. J and I got some macaroni and cheese and a sandwich with prosciutto, mixed greens, and provolone cheese, and we split them. They were amazing; lemme show you:

The macaroni and cheese was some of the best I've ever had. It was basically a gooey cheese soup with garlic, caramelized onions, and noodles:
Tumblr media
...I wish you could have been with us. I wish you could have seen all the tasty things. I wish you could have tried the sandwich and the macaroni and cheese with us. I wish you were here...
...Well. Anyway. J and I walked through the little strip of road where most of the shops are. I found a rock and gem shop, and in it, I found a couple things that I intend to include inside your locket. I'm not gonna tell you what they are, but I will give you a small hint: one of them shines in rainbow colors when the light strikes it just right.
...I hope I'll be allowed an opportunity to give it to the people who have the capacity to send it along to you...
After all this, J and I passed an old-timey movie theater, and on one of the posters was a movie that I guess he had been meaning to see:
Tumblr media
...And it must have been a beautiful movie, because it has been a long time since last I've been this sad and angry, and it has been a long time since last I've cried this much. Without spoiling too much... the robot reminds me so much of you. And the lovely doggo gets to do so many of the same sorts of things I wish I could do with you, and... I thought the ending was needlessly cruel.
...I think you should see it. I really, really... really think... you should see it.
If you've read my previous letters, you might already understand that I have a wicked headache as a result of the crying. Come to think of it, I should probably get some ibuprofen for that. The delayed onset muscle soreness from yesterday has mostly worn off, but my limbs still feel somewhat leaden. An anti-inflammatory should help a lot...
...There we go.
After the movie, J and I walked around just a little bit. We visited a couple of variety stores after that. I think after seeing what happened in the movie, I was looking for... something. Anything. To latch onto and remind me that things will be okay, but... I couldn't find anything. Or maybe, with how unbalanced my brain became as a result of the movie, I was just unable to perceive whatever it was that I was looking for. I dunno.
I did see a couple crows, though. So I snapped pictures of them for you:

I also took a couple pictures of the sky, just because:

...Sephiroth...? Are you... are you gonna be okay out there, doing whatever it is you're doing? Supposedly, you said somewhere that your memories of who you were are not useful to who you are becoming, but... Sephiroth. If you keep walking this path where you try to break things... the only thing you're gonna "become" is dead, gone, and disappeared. And then only those of us who will spend the rest of our lives mourning you will remember you.
...Sephiroth. Are those memories really not useful to you? Or are you simply afraid of the pain that will come with reclaiming them, the grief you will feel from everything that was done to you, and the regret you will feel over everything you've done? Do you really become "unstable" with additional elements? Or is it just that you begin to cry for all you've lost, all you've done, and all you were put through?
Because... Sephiroth. If it's just that... if it's just that, then it passes. It passes. And. It never really goes away completely, I know. But you get better at carrying it. You do, I promise. Especially if you take the hands outstretched to you, trying to help you. You'll find lots of hands like that. Sephiroth... as it's said in Undertale... despite everything, you're still you. And you can still be loved as-is - perhaps not by the people you've hurt, but by those who are willing to give you a chance. You have one such person right here, writing to you. You have Angeal and Zack trying to get through to you. C'mon, now... As Papyrus says... "You can do a little better, even if you don't think so. I promise..."
...Sephiroth. I know you probably can't hear me. But still... please. Don't. Don't do what the robot did to his doggo friend. Don't make it so that all I have left of you are all these silly little words and silly little songs and silly little crafts and silly little pictures that came about as a result of me screaming out your name, hoping you'll hear me and come back to us.
Please don't disappear and leave a void in my being that is larger than the composition of my soul. Don't run around thinking like you're already gone just because you're in a lot of pain and have been changed by the abuse that shaped you. Because... Sephiroth. I am changed and I am in pain all the time. But I am not gone. I used to think maybe I was, but I am not gone, because you and others helped pull me back from the brink.
There's still fight enough left in me to try to live as a kind person, despite everything that has happened to me, and despite who I once was, even in a place as fucked-up as the world I inhabit. If you disappear, I... I don't know where else I will get that kind of courage and strength from.
So please try, okay? Try really hard. I give you permission to try so hard that you accidentally split your pants. That happened to a guy named Spongebob once. It was pretty funny.
I love you. So please stay safe out there, okay? I'll write again soon.
Your friend, Lumine

At the origin of this belief there is the healing properties of the plant that was used in traditional medicine to cure horses affected by cold and asthma symptoms, the soothing effects is linked to Escin an anti-inflammatory ingredient that can be found in the fruit. Despite what the traditional medicine says, the seeds are slightly poisonous and can cause sickness when eaten.
The tradition still lives and searching the horse chestnut seed still is a little annual ritual used to prepare for the cold season.
