Seeing people argue that "slugcats are canonically anthro, even before downpour" and wondering what the hell theyre talking about because they absolutely aren't unless you completely water down both the meaning of 'anthro' and animal intelligence. Do you think that having a family structure, tool use, walking upright and communication are 'anthro'? Because than parrots are anthro. Scavengers you can absolutely argue reflect early human society with their societal structure, use of symbols and tool system but vanilla slugcats are very obviously meant to fill the role of tool-using animals and not be seen as a little person. Warrior cats or guardian of ga'hoole owls are anthropomorphic because while they still outwardly their animals they have complex, obviously human-modeled society and language thats safe and familiar without any real deviation from the expected. Fake animals can walk, use tools and communicate without being 'basically people'.
#like fucking prairie dogs have regional accents#being human-smart does not an anthro make#now downpour i could see more of an arguement for because it pushed aspects a lot harder with human-esque intelligence displays#but just being a smart animal that is upright and uses a tool is not anthro#anthro is dependent on the method of use for an animal like that. and rw vanilla is absolutely not going for 'anthro'#which is why I'd argue that even if scavengers are early human smart i wouldnt call them anthro-like either because they also feel#like their supposed to just be read as an emerging intelligent species with a growing culture thats beginning to fill the gap left by the#ancients#which could certainly be called close but the vibe is very much not that. not in the way warrior cats or zootopia or even tarzan is
