Election day, lunchtime
This election garden party was a private event held behind high iron gates at the house of a long-time Kowalski supporter. It was never in the news, nor had anyone been invited who wasn't a trusted friend or colleague. Roses weaved along trellises over the punch table, a tall white tent flapped lightly in the breeze, and the people glittered.
Waiters weaved among the guests. Harry mimicked them, the quiet voices, the way they held themselves aloof from the guests. He was hired help here, too. The camera in his hands was not his, not did he expect to leave the party without it. He took a shot here and there, focusing on the people, the beautiful house, the facade of wealth and happiness.
He should have been at the court house, watching the rally unfold, but the opportunity had been too good to miss. The pay was peanuts, but in an event like this, who knew who could show up? In a sense it was merely widening his parameter. And he had struck gold.
He put his borrowed camera away in its bag and let it hang by his side as he approached her, a confident swagger in his step and an Arkansas twang on his tongue as he called out to her. "Mrs Genovese?" He swept up a glass of water from the table and offered it to her with a playful smile, a repeat of their first meeting. "Remember me, ma'am?"

Pillow Talk | Anna and Lucca
@thekingpxn
For a change, it wasn’t yet another uneventful day. She might not be this years hostess for the party, but that didn’t mean he Genovese residence could afford to be anything but perfectly polished. The general feeling of uselessness overcame her so much that she even helped sweeping the floors and was more than surprise to learn that the deed possessed a rather soothing quality. Huh. Perhaps she could do it more often, so long as no one really saw her do it. The elections were fast approaching, just a few hours’ sleep to go, before she would have to rush to take her place and put on a doll face, being both the Genovese and the DuBois the world already knew her to be.
After a long shower, Annabelle put on her underwear and wrapped herself in a bubblegum pink bathrobe, her hair tied up in a careless bun. She meandered her way down the dimly lit corridor, slipping into her daughter’s room, only to find her fast asleep. She lingered in the shadow for a moment, looking at her dearest Lizzie, before planting a quick, soft kiss to the girl’s forehead and slipping quietly out of the room, leaving the door ajar behind herself. She lingered there, her eyes squinting as she made her way towards the bedroom she’s shared with her husband, realising she’s been stalling a little too much at her daughter’s door.
Anna sighed, bracing herself to enter the bedroom, and exhaled in slight relief as she peeked inside, noticing her husband was still absent. That was nothing new, really. They rarely went to bed at the same time, and even when they did, they rarely did anything except for rolling on opposite sides and grunting a ‘goodnight’, after a few irrelevant questions. Annabelle sat down on the bed, opening the lid of her body lotion and rolling the sleeves of the bathrobe, as she began rubbing the cream into her left arm.  She was halfway through her right leg, when the door opened and her husband strode in.
Anna briefly lifted her eyes up to meet his, her usual, welcoming smile tugging at her lips. “Good evening.”

Free Like Tonight Lyrics
The Arsonists
we don‘t have the ghost of a chance and no hope that we make it through alive you see we ain‘t praying but fighting for just one spark to light the one thing we still got we sold our future just so we could get back at them and reclaim our past you see we ain‘t praying but fighting for just one spark to light the one thing we still got we hold up our torches and start to sing this is not the beginning of the end this is is, my darling, the bitterest end this is not the beginning nor the beginning of the end this is is, my darling, the bitterest end look into the flames and you will see just the same dreary bleakness as we do eternally come on and look into the flames and you will see just the same dreary bleakness as we do in anybody
Gone
you forgot where it began but I will show you how it ends you forgot where it began but trust me I will show you how it ends and once you know the end you cannot just pretend that what was gone was already gone ’cause this is it you forgot where, how and when but it’s like the fall of man one could say that it began with just one wrong you can’t amend and once you know the end you cannot just pretend that what was gone was already gone and this is it and we can‘t take back all the things we‘ve said ’cause what is done is done you can’t know what courage is unless you’ve felt discouraged too I thought this whole thing through and couldn’t find a way so this is me losing heart again and once you know the end we cannot just pretend that what was gone was already gone and this is it this truly is it and we can‘t take back all the things we‘ve said ’cause what is done is done and we can‘t, we won‘t take back all the things we said cause what is done and what is gone is gone no, we can‘t, we won‘t take back all the things we said and just like that, just like that, you‘re gone
Free Like Tonight
why can‘t we always feel free like tonight no doubt in your eyes and peace on my mind why can‘t we always be brave like tonight we‘ve got no time for goodbyes to what‘s left behind let us forget what we‘ve done so we can deny what we‘ve become ’cause this is forever and this is eternal and shouldn‘t we always be bold like that night and follow our hearts and do, do what is right now let us forget all that we‘ve done so we can deny what we‘ve become again this is forever this is eternal
New York in the Rain
isn‘t it beautiful, new york in the rain? you‘re dancing with strangers and their heartbreak runs through your veins here we are, you and me and the panic of a city full of cowards and thieves and hopeless romantics ain‘t it tragic we are lost in the rain I sense danger in the ghost of your smile pretending that there‘s just the world I‘ve seen through your eyes don‘t you love new york in the rain? you‘re siding with strangers and yet they cannot soften your pain here we are, you and me and the panic of a city full of cowards and thieves and hopeless romantics and ain‘t it tragic we are lost in the rain and raindrops of sorrow turn to blood in our veins
Annabelle
she cried for something that could never thrive and she screamed for help at the top of her lungs she‘s got her father‘s love for veracity but she is such easy prey for liars like me oh annabelle how do you sleep and what‘s worth your pain when you know that no one dies well? she‘s got her mother‘s eyes of misery oh but for me, it‘s so easy to lose myself in them oh annabelle you stole my kisses and begged for more i cried and trembled with blood on my hands oh annabelle
Monochrome
the streets are still wet and traffic lights flicker but never turn but there‘s no reason yet to take off and never come back i‘ll see you soon i said and i hoped I would the golden glare of headlight in the signs along the road from home memories of you that show the way the golden glare of headlight in the signs along the road from home memories of you that lead away this town‘s deserted, depressing and desolate the air is thicker than i thought it could be ain‘t that a reason to set out and never return again to set out and never come back again i‘ll see you soon, i said and i hoped i would i hoped i could return i‘ll see you soon, i said and i knew i lied and i knew i lied to a memory of you i‘ll see you soon, i said the golden glare of headlight in the signs along the road from home memories of you that show the way the golden glare of headlight in the signs along the road from home a kaleidoscope in monochrome
Times of Regret
i always said i wanted it all now all i want is the curtain to fall i really thought that one day I could go back in time and kill the thought of your hand in mine in times like these you cannot seem to get ahead by looking back and i don‘t think i should but trust me, i will try again i always said i wanted it all now all i want is the curtain to fall so i don‘t need to act like i could go back in time and kill the thought of your hand in mine in times like these you cannot seem to get ahead by looking back and i don‘t think i should but trust me, i will try again
Genovese Syndrome
you‘d fallen asleep guess it was around 4 and i watched the sun rise through the rear-view mirror we had escaped the night and the ghosts of our past a few miles ahead there was an exit, at last but on the side of the road the blackness arose i saw two men hanging and a third who now knows: the innocent bystanders who abetted the crime we had escaped the night and the ghosts of our past a few miles ahead there was an exit, at last
Delusion of Love
could this really be the end of it all or is it just a herald of what‘s still to come crossed too many lines i shouldn‘t have crossed ain‘t there a way to undo the wrong i have done your eyes, they‘re giving away all the lies and deceit but i, i am so lost in them, i can‘t really tell crossed too many lines you shouldn‘t have crossed and there is no way to undo the wrong that you‘ve done your eyes, they‘re giving away all the lies and deceit but i, i am so lost in them, i can‘t even tell
do you need me more than i need you or do i need you more than you need me why do i need this more than anything else? your eyes, they‘re giving away all the lies and deceit but i, i am so lost in them, i can‘t even tell
Everything We’ll Ever Be
all my life i was led to believe the past is what has been when in reality it‘s everything we‘ll ever be there‘s no end to what was and whatever will be what‘s left of you when you give everything do you still believe you can be anything there‘s no end to who we were and whoever we can be and everything we will be we were led to believe the past is all that we had when in reality it‘s everything there will ever be what‘s left of you when you give everything do you still believe you can be anything there‘s no end to who we were and whoever we can be and everything we will be what‘s left of you when you give everything that you are why believe you could be anything that you want there‘s no end to who we were and whoever we can be there‘s no change in who we were and whoever we can be and everything we will be we‘ll be we‘ll be
Countings
different places same issues and everything i was different places same issues hell, i miss you could it be that you are everything i‘m not dear distress how long has it been since we spoke last yes, it‘s hard it‘s intense to go on when it feels like we are breaking apart could it be that you are everything i‘m not could it be that we are breaking apart are we breaking apart? are we breaking apart? are we breaking...

Plays I have seen in 2018
Tonight, I will see my final show of 2018 so it seems an opportune moment to reflect on my year in theatre. It feels especially fitting that the show is Lynette Linton’s Donmar Warehouse production of Sweat by Lynn Nottage. Among the eighty-six shows I have seen (some of them more than once), I am especially pleased to have seen so many plays written by black women, so many black women in lead roles, and so many black women directing shows; and not just in studio spaces - but on main stages, too. The complete list of every show I saw is below, with links to the ones I reviewed. I was given a lot of complimentary tickets, so I have also noted which shows I paid for and which shows were free to attend. In 2018, I made a new year’s resolution to see more theatre not in London - I make the same resolve for 2019. Here are some of the not-London shows I am looking forward to next year:
Our Lady of Kibeho - Royal & Derngate
The Princess and the Hustler - Bristol Old Vic
Concubine - Birmingham Rep
Blue/Orange - Birmingham Rep
random - Leeds Playhouse
Two Trains Running - Royal and Derngate

Name: Lisabetta Genovese Codename: Twiggy Aliases: Audrey Charbonneau, Wendy Ballesteri Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her Faceclaim: Kiernan Shipka Alternate Faceclaims: None, but open for suggestions!
history:
Date of Birth: November 10th, 1954  Place of Birth: New York City, New York Nationality: Italian-American Occupation: Student. Daughter of Lucca Genovese.
early life:
Lisabetta always knew she was different. She saw things in ways none of her peers could even begin to understand and could grasp concepts far beyond her years. While her apparent intelligence was no doubt striking, it was also incredibly isolating. Even as her parents enrolled her in the best private school money could buy, Lisabetta always felt very much alone.
A child who would much prefer reading to playing with dolls or tossing around a ball, her classmates would often tease her. Rather than let their cruel words affect her, Lisabetta used their taunts to fuel her internal fire and she began to build a burgeoning desire to be successful. Lisabetta’s competitive nature did little to earn her the friendship or admiration of her classmates, but rather enabled her to advance her schooling at a far quicker rate than what would typically be expected of a young girl in her position.
As she grew older, Lisabetta found that if she couldn’t find kinship among her peers, she would find it within her family and became determined to do whatever it took to make her parents, especially her father, proud. In truth, Lisabetta was the perfect errands-girl for her father. Her youth and relative lack of exposure to the public eye allowed for the illusion that she was no more than a harmless, innocuous little girl, while in actuality the young woman was anything but.
While Lisabetta has been taught to use her youth to her advantage, she cannot help but wish to be seen as more than a child. She understands her father wishes to protect her, but desires to be sent on missions of greater importance and earn the respect of the adults around her. Lisabetta is as fierce, determined, and independent as they come and when she sets her eyes on a goal, there is nothing that can stop her.
skill set:
Extremely skilled at concealing her emotions. People generally find Lisabetta unreadable unless she wants them to.
Moderate training in hand-to-hand combat.
Speed reader. Lisabetta is able to read 1000 words per minute.
Incredibly intelligent. Lisabetta’s IQ tested at 139 when she was last tested, falling one point short of genius.
current movements:
Last Seen: New York City, New York Report: Lisabetta was last spotted reading at a diner at 1:45 PM. She had an envelope with her. At 2:15 Frankie Russo, owner of Russo Records and suspected drug dealer, joined her. Lisabetta handed him the envelope and spoke to him for a moment. Russo left at 2:20, and Lisabetta resumed reading. That evening Russo turned himself into the police for possession of heroin, stating “they were going to get him if he didn’t stop.” Russo refused to explain who he meant.
known affiliates:
Annabelle Genovese: Lisabetta has always adored her mother and while they don’t always see eye to eye, at the end of the day, Lisabetta will heed her mother’s wishes. In her youth Lisabetta has a tendency to see her mother as intellectually inferior, causing waves between the two women, however, it’s something she seems to have outgrown as she’s learned to find great value in what her mother can teach her.
Lucca Genovese: Lisabetta’s father is her world. She wants nothing more than to earn his pride and craves his approval. She may not be the son her father always wanted but she’s determined to prove to him that she’s just as capable as any son, if not more. She especially loves the small missions her father sends her on as she finds it strengthens the bond between them.
Bonnie Smith: Lisabetta first met the woman when brokering a deal for one of her paintings. While initially writing the woman off as just another dealer, Lisabetta quickly realized the other woman saw for more than her youth- something Lisabetta had never encountered before.
>>THIS OPERATIVE IS CLOSED.<<
