Hey! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember you mentioning a few times that you use Scrivener to write? I have been thinking about switching my writing software in the future (I mean I like Word but I don't like the subscription model at all and would like to avoid it in the future lol). If you want, would you mind telling me a bit about what it's like to actually use? I want to learn a bit more before I would commit to anything ^.^"
Sure! I'm always glad to spread the gospel of scrivener!
So here's what my workspace looks like at the moment (there's a bit of a graphic torture scene on there rn but you don't have to read that):
As you can see, there's a lot of tabs and such. It's not organized like a typical word processor. With stuff like Word, every discrete document needs its own file. You can either put Chapter 2 right after Chapter 1 in the wip.docx, or you can create wipchapter1.docx and wipchapter2.docx. Not so with Scrivener. All of my Death Note fic is in the same project — whether its a oneshot or a longfic, I just have to open up that file to write it. As you can see on the left, I have a bunch of different documents for each chapter of Metempsychosis, along with a few documents for snippets, cuts and notes. You can sort those documents into folders as well. It's SO convenient to be able to tab quickly between chapters and notes without having to scroll or open like 17 different files. But if you do need to open different files...as you can see at the top, I've got a bunch more projects open, each with tons of their own documents. If you open an existing project from the File menu, it'll open in a new tab in the desktop you're using. This makes it insanely easy to navigate between projects and navigate between different documents within projects.
There are tons more features, too. Like, on the right is synopsis and notes — you can add a synopsis to each document and write notes about what you're writing. You can also add comments. You can also set project word count goals, either daily or for the project, and set deadlines. Your progress will then show up in a satisfying yet unobtrusive little colored bar at the top as you write. You can open your documents in a notecard view and rearrange them into color-coded timelines — great for stories with multiple points of view. And I don't even use all the features Scrivener has to offer, there's many more.
There are downsides, however. The way the documents are all in the same file makes exporting a lot more complicated. It's still possible to, say, save a single document as a PDF, but it's not as simple as it is in other word processors. Also, it doesn't divide your text into pages. (At least, not by default — there might be an option to have it do that, I don't know). This can be great for workflow, but it means that you can't do stuff like page numbers or headers. There's also the fact that, simply by virtue of not being Word or Google Docs, it's not going to slot well into any professional, class or collaborative work because you're not using the standard file format. This also means that, if you're submitting your creative writing professionally, working in Scrivener will create some problems you'll have to solve. I don't use Scrivener for any of my journalism or class work, just creative writing.
It's also pretty much impossible to get collaborator comments and feedback without just like, putting your text into another word processor. Scrivener does have a function to sync between devices. I recommend avoiding it. It's janky as hell and for some reason uploading an ace attorney fic to that sync function caused one of the documents to contract all of the between-paragraph spaces upon opening the file. No idea why.
So, in conclusion, Scrivener does not work very well as an all-purpose word processor, but it's not trying to. It's trying to be a good workspace for creative writing, and it does a very good job at that. Also, it's a one-time payment that's sometimes on sale, so that's nice.

@haledamage *cracks knuckles* ALRGHT THEN, can't wait to see the Kira ramble
I've already talked a little about how their different reactions in The Scene make me wanna chew drywall, but I'll refresh on that as I go. I think a lot of the differences and what makes them so DELICIOUS comes from the fact AJ and Adam are v different and Mallory and Adam are so, so very similar(the number of times Nate compares Mallory to Adam in their romance AU makes me laugh)
AJ, ofc, did the "what if we don't break?" response bc she's very much a "you'll never know if you never try" kind of person. Sure, maybe there's a 2% chance of success/no pain if they go for it(she personally thinks it's much higher), but there's a 0% chance if they deny something they both clearly feel and want to happen. She gets that Adam is trying to spare them both future pain of loss(a level of loss he's experienced before, which she can glean from the "again" even if he hasn't gone into detail about what happened to his family yet). She does. BUT his solution to avoiding potential future pain is to cause definite current pain. That doesn't make sense to her. Especially bc if something were to happen to him; seriously injured yet again or GOD FORBID killed, IT'S STILL GOING TO HURT. She still loves him even if he's not willing to let them be together. Can't speak for him, but suspects it would be the same. :) Just bc they're not acting on it doesn't make the feelings go away.
Her "going forward" is gonna be more of what's in the ficlet, not hiding that she loves him, not pushing too hard, just unobtrusively but relentlessly making him aware that whenever he's ready so is she. She doesn't want to pry for what happened to his family, what made him feel like this, worry about being broken bc he cares deeply about someone(spoilers, Adam, you care about Bravo. You care about Rebecca. You're still fucked even if you don't let yourself fall in love :)))) ), but even without details she understands it was Bad and she gets the desire to flinch away from a potential repeat of a pain you've experienced. Burn your hand, you don't touch the stove. Fall through ice, you don't walk on frozen rivers. etc etc. But she also feels that no matter how valid that fear might be, he needs to work through it(that feels like wrong phrasing >.>) bc not letting yourself get close to people for fear of how much losing them will hurt is no way to live. Especially when you're immortal. And maybe that's naïve bc she is mortal instead of being a 900 year old vampire. Maybe she'll feel differently after she's watched her mother and Tina and Verda's kids all age and die. But maybe she won't. Maybe loving people is worth enduring the chance/certainty of their loss.(Might do something in this AU with the fact she had a cat who died of old age a couple months before book 1. Much smaller scale, but she does have a little experience with loss of something beloved. And she wouldn't trade the years she had and loved her cat to avoid the pain of losing her, that would be silly.)
And Mallory. haha prepare for Mallory's Bold stat to SKYROCKET.
She's been trying to ignore, deny, and explain away the fact she's falling for Adam since late book 1, juuuuuust ignore she got worse PTSD from Murphy stabbing him than anything the asshole did to her. :) She still has nightmares about it. :))) Trapper fight too :))) The truth almost managed to escape after book 2 combat training, but she shoved it away, only to have TU OMNIA smash the walls down into little teeny tiny pieces she'd never put back together. (Love having a language nerd romance Adam "mutter in Latin so people don't know what I'm saying" du Mortain :). She DOES, buddy boy. It's fun) she still kept it kinda buried bc he was so clearly trying to deny/get rid of his feelings, and she already got her heart broken once by Bobby, she doesn't want a repeat of that. But the STUFF in book 3, man. And that my proud, cynical, STUBBORN AF, "I'm not fragile, Adam"// "I can handle myself" girl deliberately let herself be vulnerable enough to say "Too late" when he says he can't let her fall in love with him makes me SCREAM. She knew it was going to hurt. She knew it was going to break her heart. She did it anyway. She loves him enough to let him hurt her like that. Bc she had to tell him. She's honest, outspoken, reckless and so in love with him she can barely breathe, OFC she had to tell him even if he refuses to do anything about it.
But now, ohoho, he's admitted he loves her, and knows she loves him. The dam is finally, FINALLY broken, the river is raging, and good luck stopping her. She's gonna be way more open and blunt and vocal about how stupid she think it is to deny their feelings for each other. example: I DID NOT FINALLY GET OVER YEARS OF BLOODY BOBBY MARKS CRIPPLING MY LOVE LIFE TO ROLL OVER AND BE RESIGNED BC YOU'RE AFRAID OF GETTING HURT DU MORTAIN. DOES THAT SOUND LIKE ME?!?!?!?! (Do you know how long it took me to admit to MYSELF and sort-of kind-of to SOMEONE ELSE that I love you??? I can't back down NOW)
Mallory loves a challenge. She is encouraged and inspired when given a challenge. She also HATES IT when people tell her what to do, especially "for her safety". And Adam's whole "I will not allow you to fall in love with me" hits BOTH of those buttons. He literally could not have made her more interested in pursing him if he'd confessed his love and asked her on a date. xD Telling her "You can't do this, you'll get hurt" and thinking that would stop her???? Instead of make her chase it more stubbornly and blatantly????? Do you know her at all, Adam????? (Mason's gonna have a ball watching/abetting her in book 4 and I"m here for it)
tl;dr, AJ's a gentle stream, Mallory's a raging river, but they WILL both wear down the rock that is Adam du Mortain's obstinate refusal to pursue their mutual attraction, and it's gonna be delicious to watch.
#queen rambles#OH MY GOD THIS IS OVER 1K lmaooooooooo#muhahahaha book 4 will be so much fun guys >:3#i can't wait#aj/adam au#mallory/adam#i hav SO MANY FEEEELLLLIINNNGGGGGSSSSSSs

apparently my mom didnt know my pronouns were they/them despite me constantly talking about being nonbinary and having it on all my socials and literally talking about my pronouns/preferred gendered language for what feels like all the time.
we were talking about how an old friend's child (4 years younger than me, 23) is also nonbinary and how they used to get "SO mad" at her for using their deadname or incorrect pronouns. the implication was that they were pretty "mean" and adamant about it, even to older family members, all who were trying their best to be respectful and not messing up on purpose. they've always been a pretty feisty redhead so i believe it lol
but, strangely enough, my mom, the most loving person in the world, the most caring and least bigoted person i know, could not seem to get "they" to come out of her mouth. so after a while, every time she said the incorrect pronoun, I'd say "they." very neutral and unobtrusively. the first few times my mom would go "yes, right, they" and then the next sentence she'd go back to the other one. and I'd say it again. it was actually quite perplexing, not just in a general sense but because my mom defaults to "they" for people we don't know, even if they only have the tiniest hint of maybe being queer, yet she can't do it for even two sentences in a row for our friend that we held as a baby right after they were born.
eventually i had to say it so much that she eventually stopped and said "well when are they doing to just make another pronoun, huh?! 'they' is plural, it's not for a singular person!" very exasperatedly. she's a very grammar-focused "wordy" and comes from a long line of teachers and authors.
though, this through me for a loop, mostly for the above reasons but also because we've had this conversation. calmly i said "they has been used as a singular pronoun for hundreds of years. you'd say, 'who left their book?' people do it every day constantly. it's grammatically correct."
"well you should say 'who's book is this?' instead, then"
"maybe, but that doesn't mean it's incorrect to use they as a singular pronoun when the person's gender is unknown"
"so they're gender is 'unknown'?!"
this left me to stare at her for a second. "no?"
"then what is it?!"
"... they're nonbinary"
she stared at me for a second because she remembered that, yes, that has very much been established, but also, that's what i call myself.
"also, neopronouns do exist but people aren't ready for them yet still. but, they/them is just a pronoun that people already use that doesn't have a gendered meaning. it's neutral. in French, "vous" is used both to address multiple people but also a singular person in a formal way, so there are pronouns that can mean singular or multiple."
this continued to give her pause, something to consider. i was still confused by this conversation so i finally spoke up about the question at the front of my mind.
"i mean... my pronouns are they/them. I'm nonbinary too."
the look she gave me was something i could only describe as... light devastation. "you never corrected me...?"
i kinda shrugged and went "i mean, i feel like i talk about it a lot, I've explained how happy it makes me, it's on all my socials..." she continues to stare. "so, when you show this frustration and confusion, i mean, i know it's hard, you know, as a parent. especially in context, i mean, when [sister] introduces me or when we're on our podcast, she uses Ro and they/them, but i hear when you guys are on the phone together, you both still use [my initial] and [assigned pronouns] because that's what you're used to with each other. [BF] is getting better at using the right stuff around friends but around you he still uses [assigned pronouns] still too. i mean, when i first changed my name and stuff, i told everyone like 'no pressure!!' cuz i know it's hard... but it is what i prefer..."
the conversation kind of trailed from there. we started talking about my other trans friends she'd known before they transitioned. i need to ask her about it later, because the look she gave me truly was just... shock. neutral shock, maybe with some "oh shit i fucked up" sprinkled on top. i give people close to me a lot of grace, but for as much as i talk about trans issues and being trans, im amazed my mom was..... surprised?! about it? like did i never ACTUALLY say it to her?? lol???
her talking about how horrible my friend was to their mom after transitioning, how they "still get mad" (after 4 years.......) when anyone slips up, and how WrOnG and RiDiCuLoUs it was to ever refer to a singular person using they..when she... always does it?? even HER MOM says "he, she, they" when referring to anyone she doesn't know, and she talked about how cool and cute that was. but suddenly it's not correct?
hopefully this.... coming out... again... in the midst of her complaining about it kinda opened her eyes and she will get better at it. i mean, it kinda literally opened her eyes, the way she looked at me like that lol
#long post#this was a lot longer than anticipated but i couldn't find a way to make it succinct lol#i dont think im gonna tag this as anything#feel free to reply if you're a follower or mutual

The Human Experience
I wrote in my diary once that I almost wish someone would read it without my knowledge. It seems obsolete to put all this work into recording my thoughts, hopes, etc only for it to decay once I'm gone.
Yet, because I've obviously put private and embarrassing things in there, if I knew that someone read it, I wouldn't be able to face them again.
But there is still a part of me that hopes someone has read it, or that they will one day. I have this theory that, if people can know and understand another's motivations, reasons, past experiences, then they understand the person better (duh). There would be less arguments, less fights, less miscommunication. In the minor situations I mean, I don't apply this to how wars begin or anything.
I grew up in a family with a lot of fighting and arguments. I'm not sure how much more compared to the average experience, but I'm quite confident it was too much. We fought because one sister bothered the other. We fought mum because we didn't want to go to school. We fought our stepdad because we were bored, or because we felt wronged in some way. Many, if not most, of our fights were parents' vs children because of housework, or the lack of help with it. I had meltdowns because I felt mum didn't want to spend time with me, which hurt on a deep level.
There is no shortage of the things we've fought about, and no way to know what the longest time we went without an argument to some degree is. If I had to guess, maybe 10 days. 14 at most, being generous. We fought about very minor things, and no less often about things that matter.
There were a lot of emotions involved. I am an emotional person; I feel everything to the nth degree. Maybe this is why I feel that the chaos of all the fighting I grew up in has left such a mark on me now. The harsh words, the cruel tones, the faces pulled, can cause such a physical feeling of distress, fight or flight, pure rage, heartache, that I physically don't know how to control myself. I would scream, cry, speak heinous and cruel words, self-harm, to try to alleviate my emotional pain.
On a scale of depression, neutral and manic, I could go from neutral to manic in record speed.
The same applies to positive emotions also. My joys, my happiest highs, excitements, can feel supernatural too. When I was younger and looking forward to something, say an upcoming holiday or Christmas, I took myself for sprints until I was puffed and could run no more. Even afterwards I was still buzzing, only feeling less like I would combust from all the exhilaration in my body.
It's probably the closest to being high on drugs I can imagine. Now I have the same feeling when I'm out running, listening to the perfect speedy heavy metal song and totally happy with my life. Pure, unblemished ecstasy powering me to run long and fast.
So much emotion, to such an extent that it feels like it takes over. Am I an emotionally driven person? Likely.
I suppose there's the benefits and drawbacks to that. I certainly must take responsibility for my downright wickedness in moments of anger. However I love that I can feel so overcome by happiness sometimes that I can run for days on that adreniline high.
I made up some totally stupid (read: unscientific) scale to measure this when I was chatting with my sister a few nights ago; the aforementioned depressed, neutral and manic scale. If I am naturally inclined to some degree of mania, my guess is that she is drawn to depression.
I cannot tell you if this is natural for her or if she's been conditioned to it. I admittedly was the star of the show between us. My emotions came first. I had to be kept neutral otherwise my parents would have to help this out of control, upset kid. I wonder if even now I still think I should come first partly due to this reason? I say this to my own shame.
If I was the main character, my quiet and unobtrusive sister would be the supporting role. The easy to ignore, reliable one. She's grown up to be independent and self-reliant. I can list how this is both helpful and harmful for her.
So whether by nature or nurture, she falls on the depressed side of the scale. Depressed, not meaning a state of sadness but rather numbness. A more muted sense of feelings. A quieter joy. A brewing anger, not an instant rage.
While I embrace the help of others and readily share all aspects of my life with them, she keeps to herself.
While that bothers me sometimes (though it shouldn't), it also makes her all the more interesting to me. Such lack of output makes me want to know what is going on. What are her motivations, reasons, past experiences shaping the way she thinks?
She intrigues me this way, but not as much as mum does. I don't know my life without my sister, so though I have gaps in my knowledge, given our close relationship and shared upbringing, I can deductively reason and guess what I don't know.
Mum had a whole life full of experiences prior to my being able to comprehend the world around me. What did she do before me? What was the order of events? Why did you work there, how did you meet him, what did you think about this? What has shaped your way of thinking? I have the longest list of things I want to know about the person who raised me and has shown me more unconditional love than anyone. Yet for whatever reason, she mostly has shut her past life and important opinions off to questions. I hope I can learn all this one day.
Do I say all this to conclude that those who keep quiet are more interesting people? By no means. I know I'm an interesting person, especially when I think about the things I did in the first years of my twenties. People would eat. that. up.
I work with someone who seemingly needs to keep talking just to stay alive. I think she's awesome, and though I know so much already, I am dead certain that she's only scratched the surface of things to say. There's heaps to know.
I read a quote the other day,
"A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other.'
-Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities.
Any person you talk to can tell you about their life and inner thoughts and I guarantee you will not be bored. Even a child will say something that is interesting and different to every other person.
Biographies are popular because we enjoy reading about the human experience. Often it is only the extraordinary stories that make it into bestselling books, however I strongly believe that if a writer were to interview any random off the street, that person's life story would enthral you. We are most interesting to each other.
So having said all this, if only we knew more about one other! After so many of the arguments and fights I grew up with, especially those caused by miscommunication or misunderstanding, I remember lamenting that no one understood. If only I knew that my mother's distress about the undone dishes stemmed from her anxiety of being a failure. If only my sister would've realised the reason I wanted her to join me in an activity was so we could have a timeless memory together, she would choose than over routine YouTube viewing.
I've written mostly in terms of my experience as a child. As an adult now, things are better. I can interpret people's body language for clues to their reasoning. I have experience behind me, and I know my loved ones more.
Yet so much remains a mystery. I understand why we keep so much to ourselves. Sharing is vulnerable. That's why I won't be handing anyone my diary or Tumblr link any time soon. But should they stumble upon it, be curious and have a read, they'll understand me that bit more. Isn't that what we all crave, to be understood? To know more about those we share our lives with? So, this is my permission to read my diary. Just don't tell me.

10 best tips for Yoga routines
For the finest start to your yoga practice, read our list of the top 10 advice for newcomers.
At the point when you're simply beginning yoga, the possibility of getting into a headstand or crow posture can appear to be threatening. In any case, you truly don't need to stress over nailing progressed level situations to receive the rewards on the grounds that the quintessence of the exercise is tied in with going at your own speed and embracing the psyche body association.
Furthermore, to assist you with settling in on your mat, these yoga tips for novices from TikTok are an extraordinary spot to begin on the off chance that you're hoping to dunk your toes into your own training.
Recognize your beginning status
Figuring out how to play an instrument, driving a vehicle, and, surprisingly, baking a cake are everything we can acknowledge we're novices at when we get going, so with regards to beginning a yoga practice, recall being a fledgling is OK.
Assuming you feel baffled that your hips are still close after several classes, or you're actually befuddled about the stances following a month, recollect that you're toward the start, and very much like tuning an instrument, tweaking the body takes time.
Go slowly
There are loads of speedy, wellness based yoga classes out there, which are perfect for developing an inspired psyche and feeling of force, however they can likewise prompt injury on the off chance that you're curious about the stances and changes.
Show restraint for the initial not many long stretches of training, and pick classes that are somewhat slower so you can will grasps with arrangement and developments on the mat. Booking two or three balanced meetings with a nearby instructor is shockingly better.
Lets Inhale
It could appear to be senseless that you'd neglect to inhale, yet we as a whole make it happen. In the event that you wind up in a difficult shape or especially troublesome adjusting stance, remind yourself to relax.
At the point when we take in an even and loosened up manner, we make an impression on the body and cerebrum that all is great, and this assists with lessening feelings of anxiety, and increment a feeling of prosperity. On the off chance that you don't remind yourself to inhale, your yoga instructor will.
Find an appropriate mat
Discussing developments on the mat, this somewhat commonsense tip could save you a ton of slipping and sliding: get a yoga mat that doesn't make your hands and feet slip, shun applying hand cream before class, and settle on a mat that isn't excessively thick or soft.
Trust me, these things will assist you with feeling undeniably surer and centered during your yoga practice.
Awaited release
Inside the yogic texts, delivering assumption is something we're educated about over and over. At the point when we center just around the result of a circumstance, we deny ourselves the capacity to be available and completely at the actual time, as a matter of fact.
The outcome, result or accomplishment of any training isn't something we have command over so let go of being 'great' at yoga, and spotlight on the second you're in this moment.
Ignore the photos and concentrate on you
It's not difficult to become involved with the thought that you'll need to get yourself into a shape or perform gymnastic accomplishments during a yoga class, particularly when there are a lot of pictures via virtual entertainment of pretzel-like shapes and handstands propagating this thought.
The thing is however, everybody is unique, and everybody comes to yoga for an alternate explanation. There is nobody 'size fits all' way to deal with rehearsing yoga, and it positively isn't about how you can manage your body. Disregard the photos or impression of yoga you might have seen previously; your yoga practice is about you.
Always keep in mind that your actions affect everything you do
This is an unobtrusive yet entrancing piece of yoga, and can assist with creating body-mind mindfulness in a strong manner. Assuming you hunch your shoulders in your yoga class, you presumably do this in regular daily existence.
Assuming you pause your breathing or coarseness your teeth, you presumably do this in day to day existence as well. These multitudes of little activities send unpleasant messages to the body and cerebrum so observe and check whether you can work on them both on and off the mat.
Pay attention to your base
Whether your hands or feet are holding you in a stance, the groundwork of your body is unquestionably significant. Very much like the groundwork’s of a house, the entire construction depends upon it, so focus on how your hands and feet are set.
Spread your fingers and toes to make a base of help, and pay attention to those little prompts from your educator.
Protect your core
A solid center not just assists you with feeling all the more impressive; it can make your yoga practice simpler and more pleasant as well. As the focal point of the body, the center is engaged with essentially every development we make.
The more grounded your center is, the more outlandish you are to get harmed, and the more probable you are to quit pondering how much your body is shaking, and begin zeroing in rather on quieting the brain.
Bring it along
A yoga practice isn't simply something we can do on the mat it's a long lasting cycle.
The care, breathwork, self-assurance, strength, arrival of assumption, concentration and presence we work in every yoga class can be converted into day to day existence, and that implies we get to profit from yoga all through the entire day, and give those advantages to everybody we communicate with as well.

i dare u to answer every question that is a multiple of 5 🫵
thank you mysterious anon i shall do so to the best of my ability...
5. Games you’ve played in the past 12 months that you really enjoyed? 12 months is a long time. i've played a lot of games in the past year so it's hard to choose... but as far as pure enjoyment factor goes, i had a great time playing paranormasight and octopath 2. both are games that completely nail their atmospheres, which has a big impact on my immersion and ability to meet the game on its own level. i often find myself having fun in spite of a game's flaws if it has a strong, cohesive setting it wants to portray. like even if some of the things that happened in paranormasight were a little silly i still wanted it to be longer just so that i could hang out in its world more. oh and splatoon 3 :) i actually made some friends by being good at salmon run how cool is that
10. Quick, name the first song from a game that comes to mind! children of the city by mili
15. A song that’s sure to hit your nostalgia buttons since this is a gaming-themed ask game, i'll say nuvema town's theme from pokemon BW since that was my first ever pokemon game. when i listen to it i can still remember picking my starter (oshawott of course) on the way to burger king. i was 10
20. A game you started up for the first time and you knew from the start it was going to be great limbus company starts with you almost getting your shit handed to you only for your would-be "saviors" to swoop in and... die immediately. and then when they're revived and find out they can't permanently die they start killing each other over petty arguments within the first 10 minutes of the game. it did a great job establishing that death is cheap in the city. limbus is the impetus for me getting into the other project moon games as well, although i suppose that was an inevitability
25. A game with a cool art style maybe it's just fresh on my brain but i liked paranormasight's art style a lot. the whole game has this grainy but unobtrusive filter over the screen and slight chromatic abberation to make it look like you're watching the events unfold through an old color tv (because you actually are in the game), and the character art is expressive yet restrained in a way i find very pleasant to look at. the use of real-life photos for backgrounds also does a lot of heavy lifting in making the game world feel real. here are some screenshots of my playthrough to hopefully help illustrate what i mean:
30. Spyro or Crash Bandicoot? um i haven't played either but i like spyro more i guess lol 35. What’s your favorite genre of game? i love me a good detective/mystery-solving visual novel. there are other games that i like more than certain mystery VNs but out of all the genres i've played mystery VNs are the ones that most consistently appeal to me
40. Pc specs if you have one! just a humble HP laptop with win11, an i3, and 8gigs of RAM... nothing special but it can run games better than my previous computer so i can't complain LOL. i mostly game on my switch anyway 45. Favorite content creator? like, gaming content? i find joseph anderson's streams very funny (his persona/zero escape/aitsf streams had me fucking rolling and i cannot wait for him to get to aini) but i'm not into game commentary personalities since i have strong opinions. i don't need anyone else's thoughts i have my own thanks
50. Do you look up tutorials, or do you like to figure it out yourself? i like to figure things out for myself, although sometimes i get stuck missing one little thing and need to look up my next step just to progress. i remember this happening in famicom detective club which was a little annoying

You don't need an Xbox One X, but you'll probably like it

You don't need an Xbox One X, but you'll probably like it
When the Xbox One X first arrived at my house, my TV was too crappy to allow me to really appreciate it. There I was, hooking up the “most world’s most powerful console” to a Sony TV I bought on Black Friday eight years ago. It seemed like a waste, so I made the jump into the world of 4K TV with HDR. I didn’t need the new screen, but once it was there, I could appreciate that it was actually better. And that pretty much sums up my Xbox One X experience overall.
What is it?
Microsoft set out to make the most powerful console ever—and it did, at least on paper, besting the PlayStation 4 Pro, which arrived earlier this year. It has a lot of impressive-sounding technical stats, like a 74-percent increase in processor speed and six teraflops of computing power (click here if you’re curious about what a teraflop actually is). In short, it’s a lot more powerful than its predecessors.
Testing
If you’re coming from a regular Xbox One, you’re going to notice a difference when watching UHD (ultra high-definition) content or playing games that have been enhanced for the One X. The colors are more impressive, and the graphics are sometimes so sharp that it’s unnerving. Do I really need to see every pore and scar on the face of my Gears of War character? Well, yeah, I do, actually.
UHD-enabled apps like Amazon and Netflix look similarly impressive, but that was the case with the Xbox One S, too. Load times for games are shorter on the One X, especially on legacy titles like Cuphead and Overwatch.
The entire Xbox experience feels pretty much the same, just slightly better.
What can I actually play on it?
Right now, the list of games optimized for Xbox One X is small. I mostly played Gears of War 4, because it’s full of dark shadows and bright explosions, which really hammer home the fancy visuals. The list of optimized games is growing all the time, but that’s where the Xbox platform runs into a bit of a hiccup.
While the Xbox One X is a new console, it’s not a new platform. Developers are encouraged to enhance games to take advantage of the full power, but it’s not a mandatory transition. Microsoft says optimized games will still look better, even on 1080p TVs, and it’s true, they do. This is because the One X uses a technique called super-sampling, which renders the visuals at full-resolution, then scales them down for the lower-res display. As a result, you still get improved shadows and crisper edges, but it’s not nearly as noticeable as it is on a UHD TV.
If you don’t have a really nice TV, the Xbox One X is total overkill, especially when you consider the roughly $220 premium it commands over the very capable Xbox One S.
It’s also worth noting that the games optimized for UHD play can take up more than 100GB of storage each. Both Forza 7 and Gears of War 4 were over the century mark, which means the 1 TB hard drive in the Xbox One X fills up quickly.
Is it a good streaming box?
According to Microsoft, Xbox users spend roughly 40 percent of their time doing things other than playing Xbox games. For its price, you can get the Xbox One S, and Apple TV 4K, and still have some money left over to buy a digital copy of Baby Driver (which is really good, if you haven’t seen it). For that price, it should be able to stand on its own as the only streaming box you need, but it’s not quite there yet.
The biggest quibble I have is navigating the Xbox menus. The latest update has actually made the Xbox interface a lot more intuitive, but using a controller as the primary input feels like an outdated way to do things. I’m used to having the option of an app to control things if I can’t find the remote and I really missed that here.
The content selection in the Xbox store when it comes to UHD content is lacking compared to others, especially iTunes. If you want to watch Wonder Woman through the Xbox Store, for instance, you’ll have to buy it for $20, as there’s no rental option. Other channels provide good alternatives, but it makes for a messier experience.
4K Blu-rays look rather amazing if your TV is set up to maximize the picture quality. In 2017, inserting discs to watch content feels downright archaic, but it’s worth the effort for the extra fidelity if you really want to appreciate something with impressive visuals.
Design
I’m breaking a gear writer commandment here and saying that I don’t care about the design of the Xbox One X. I put it in the cabinet below my TV and I haven’t seen it since. It’s unobtrusive, black, and relatively quiet. If you don’t like it, you could easily decorate it with a Sharpie or maybe some festive stickers, then go back to looking at the screen where the fun stuff lives.
The controller is the same streamlined design you’ll find packed with the Xbox One S. The changes in shape and texture are subtle, but pleasant. One plus for the One X is that some games will eventually support keyboard and mouse input for an experience that more closely mimics a PC.
Who is this thing for?
The Xbox One X is not for everyone, and Microsoft clearly knows that. It’s also not a true replacement for a high-end PC gaming rig—just ask any die-hard PC gamer and they will tell you all about it. But, it makes sense for people like me. I like shiny new things and the Xbox One X doesn’t feel like a console that will be woefully out of date in a year. The differences aren’t earth-shaking, but they are tangible, and it gets me close enough to PC performance without having to worry about building or buying a gaming machine.
The future of the Xbox One X also seems intriguing. There’s clearly enough power built into this thing to push a virtual reality experience like PlayStation currently offers, but we’ll have to wait and see if that comes to fruition. For now, buying an Xbox One X means not having to think about buying another console for a long time.
