i can't wait until we get a better understanding of the show timeline in s5 because what do you mean max might be in a coma and mike doesn't find out about the painting and they're all living in apocalyptic hawkins for 1.5 years???

same anon who said they're expecting a big jancy fight - my hope is that it's going to address not just the practicalities of "will we go to the same college" but the deeper issues jonathan and nancy seem to both have on display: jonathan's paranoia about being away from his family and the stress being poor his whole life has put on him, and nancy's singleminded focus on her own goals/wants/needs above others' and my HOPE (and hope and expectation are different things) is that even if that results in a temporary split, remembering what great partners they are in life and monster hunting will bring them together again and maybe even help them recognize that they can help each other with those core issues in their characters. that nancy can be his support and comfort as he navigates being properly away from his family for the first time, and that he can help nancy expand her tunnel vision beyond just herself and to include him. i thought it was significant that in the cabin scene she says "the world keeps getting in the way of *our* big plans" -- i think she needs to be reminded that "our" Is a plural. it seems like she's almost there.
will we get that? i do not know. but that's my hope, at least. especially since i cannot imagine them going into the big fight against Vecna without having each other's backs. even if they were in peak fight at that point, they'd never leave the other behind.
Does Nancy really put her goals wishes above others though? She literally just has goals. Since we didn’t have any scene about how they chose colleges, it’s unclear what happened there. But it’s true she def can get like very singularly focused but it’s usually for a good reason, altho it can sometimes miss other things, and other things going on with people.
But yeah I agree with you altho from Jonathan’s side he has to also work on his trust issues not only through a Jancy conversation, but also with his family.
But yeah they def need to talk. Ig I could imagine them briefly breaking up and coming back together, only idk how there would be time for that in the beginning. It feels like things will focus more on the threat and hitting the ground running with that—so unless it shows them not getting along when they work together, and then having a fight and then getting along? Idk I think the most annoying writing situation would be if they just pretend the miscommunication issues aren’t there and don’t address them—ig in that scenario they’d just show that everything is perfect and gloss over all that just happened between them.
It’s def true she’s still thinking in terms of “our” plans at the end of s4, which goes agst the love triangle being open, but the Duffers have said that s5 will address “Nancy/Steve and her lack of resolution with Jonathan.” Whatever the case is of how they do that, they def need to talk about what “our” plans means bc currently Jonathan is at once asking if they’re okay and thinking their plans aren’t really happening or having doubts about them (but for all kinds of reasons some of which could get resolved).

Hi sorry I just need a place to talk about the jancy/stancy thing. I have no idea where they're going and tbh either way is fine EXCEPT that Jonathan's arcs have so much revolved around Nancy in the last couple seasons that if they break them up, they better give him a strong story outside of their romance? Otherwise man what a sad ending for him??
He hasn't really done anything worth being broken up with except not be able to afford college and have adult expectations thrust on him as a teenager and not really know how to explain that to her. I can see where that might make them incompatible logistically speaking, but since this is the final season of a tv show... we need a better emotional ending for Jonathan than just being too poor to be Nancy Wheeler's boyfriend after all.
Well it’s kind of a problem that Jonathan’s arcs have revolved around Nancy—they should have been able to write them to both have independent arcs and be in a relationship, but they couldn’t. And her arc was strong this season bc she was figuring out plans on her own and leading Hawkins gang (altho then they dragged the love triangle into it). I def don’t think it would be he was too poor to be her gf—and they had that talk about sexism and money issues back in s3, so I think she’d understand his worries about college. Altho it’s true, if they really go this route (it just kinda feels like they are but idk there’s still a chance they won’t): what exactly would they break them up about? The lack of communication ig? That she has feelings for Steve? But they should have given him a strong plotline whether in or out of a relationship (and obvs same with Nancy altho they have written her with strong plotlines). I hope the give all the OG characters strong plotlines in s5.
