Love the idea of Technos slow progression of being an older brother and taking care of them while also just. Bearing with the clear signs getting more and more obvious. Tommy and wilbur come home late, and he just keeps dinner warm and doesnt ask questions. One of Tommys hoodies has an odd bloodstain on the sleeve, and he just spends a night scrubbing it clean, putting it back in Tommys closet without a word. His brothers come home one night with dirt still sticking to their skin, and he just wipes off Wilburs arms without pressing as to why they were digging in the dirt in the first place. He keeps protecting them in the smallest ways, seeing all the signs, and after a while he fully knows whats happening and he cant bring himself to stop it. Can’t jeopardize his brothers like that.

Eventually he finds himself with the shovel, standing over a grave and looking at the clear result, clear evidence, and Tommy and Wilbur expect him to say something then, but he just doesn’t.

He buries the body, cleans the dirt from their hands, and puts their clothes in the wash, because its habit, and its what he does. Its too familiar, too engrained into him for him to stop. He doesn’t think he could bear not doing any of this anymore, if he were to reveal them and turn them in. He doesn’t know what he would do if he lost them both. So he just makes sure that it wont happen

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO TOUYA TODOROKI?

- a theory

Warnings: spoilers for bnha, specifically chapter 290; mentions of suicide and violence (murder); possibly grotesque imagery;

Please keep in mind this is just a theory ive created based on presumably canon and canon background, by no means is it to be taken with more than a grain of salt. When giving your take, please be kind. :)

So, now that the theory that dabi is touya todoroki and not some homeless guy we tried to stick onto todorokis trauma is confirmed and canon; i think we need to elaborate on what happened to the young touya.

So, touya was the oldest of the todoroki siblings and the first one endeavor presumably trained. It was said that his fire quirk was stronger Endeavors, and blue flame is one of the hottest flames, if not the hottest flame. It heats up quicker and uses gas molecules compared to say yellow flames that use soot. That being said, the blue flames wouldve already been a lot for touyas underdeveloped body to handle because it heats up so quickly. Along with that, it was said that "he has the composition of his mother, like his younger siblings". His mother, being and ice user and his siblings assumingly also being ice users (natsuo even makes a joke that all of them are sensitive to heat), touyas body probably wasnt made to handle such intense heat like blue flame. Perhaps if it was orange flame like Endeavors and Shoutos, he would've been able to handle it better.

Endeavor obviously shames him as weak and after shouto is born and develops his quirks, his gears shift to focus on his youngest son who can handle both quirks. Touya then is shown playing with his younger siblings while shouto is watching, isolated from each other. After Rei is sent for treatment, apparently touya dies in an accident ans the details are unknown. All we really see is endeavor sitting at his memorial. In the aftermath reis mental health increasingly downfalls and touya blames his dad for the death of his brother. Now there can be many ways this went down

A. It really couldve been an accident

B. Touya couldve overcharged his quirk, which we already know his body lacks resistance for, and performed an "accidental suicide "

But i think the top two theories are it was endeavor (more favorable) or, what im starting to think, it was Rei..

And this is why:

So the endeavor theory makes sense, of course. If touya ever learned how to properly create blue flames and his body became accustomed to handle it, he would've became shouto and endeavors competition. Endeavor couldve very well acted out against touya after the incident with the tea kettle and with his past of abuse, it isn't unlikely, even if it was an accident. It would've been very easy to kill or seriously injure touya with his weak tolerance of heat, and if he attempted to defend himself, the overuse of his quirk (especially in a fit of panic and high intensity emotions) could've burned him alive like how we see dabi now with his flesh scared and unable to heal properly. If he was a small child and looked like that, since it wouldve been the first layers of his flesh and not the scars we see today, it would've very clearly looked like he died considering his face would be practically gone.

That being said, since endeavor had not only put away his wife and still had three other kids to care for, one of which being his legacy, and he was aiming for top hero after Allmight; would it really be a reach to say he covered it up? Its happened before, especially if they cremated the body, and even if they buried it; there doesn't have to be an open casket ceremony. Whatever it was couldve been empty or if he stuck to it being an accident, a story isnt hard to makeup. Touta todoroki runs away after his mother is sent off and comes in contact with a ruthless villian that takes his life?

However, i believe the empty casket and even possibly saying there were no remains or he went missing is more likely considering touya is still very much alive physically. Meaning, endeavor coudlve dumped the body or hired someone else to and touya miraculously survived.

We already know rei was struggling with mental health, that much was shown when she accidentally burned shouto with the tea kettle. The scar wasnt from a burn, afterall, it was from her trying to use her ice quirk over it to soothe it, thus causing the burn because of the reaction with the ice to the heat. She very clearly cares for shouto and even pushed him to stay true to himself and not be like his father, also pushing him to be the hero he wants to be. However, she already explained how shoutos left side(?) Reminds her of endeavor. Lets say aftee the tea kettle incident, there is a fight between rei and endeavor where she is also reminded of touya and how he originally was going to be the next number one after endeavor. He was the original prodigy. With the develoling trauma from years of abuse, and the accident, it would only make sense that she would fully crack down and accidentally harm touya as well. Its not until a few days later that they declare him dead after Rei is sent off. Now, what I'm trying to get at is how they reacted to the debi reveal.

Although i havent seen all the spoilers yet for chp. 290, we know he revealed himself to shouto, endeavor and rei. We'll start with endeavor. Now, I do think Endeavor played a big part in the role of touyas accident and honestly it probably was him, however; when he was sitting at the memorial it couldve been from guilt or sorrow or a mix of both. During the reveal, obviously there is a lot going on. Both endeavor and shouto are in very compromising, dangerous and stressful situations and then dabi comes along with his little jig and a drink and is like wtf yall dont remember me??? So, obviously shouto is distraught, boy looks like hes about to cry, especially after dabi says he looks so much bigger now. Endeavor, on the other hand, looks like he's going through it. All stages, all emotions at once but he doesnt look angry or necessarily with regret, but more confusion.

Seeing someone you think is dead, especially if you saw them die, is obviously very confusing and he even looks a little scared. Almosy paralyzed by his emotions. I think he helped cover up touyas death by rei because, putting her away already wohldve damaged his reputation, but so would a death in his family if it was caused by his family. Or, it was both of them. To me it doesnt seem like its just him, otherwise I think he would look a little different and be feeling something else. What would he be feeling? Im not sure. But either way, hes definitely confused and definitely gritting his teeth here. Now, what was dabis reason for being so dramatic about the reveal to shouto and endeavor as opposed to reis video? Well, he was very clearly abandoned by his father for shouto and the two of them combined basically ruined his life and tore the family apart.

That being said, let's take a look at reis reaction.

Now in my opinion, rei doesnt look confused, maybe a little shocked but she definitely recognizes him. Her eyes are wide and she looks like she was struck with a thousand memories of this now grown man who looks much older and worn down for his age than he should for the last time she saw him being when he was when he was a child. She has a similar expression to endeavors, just less confused and shocked. Clearly fitting the expression, "you look like youve seen a ghost." Now, considering we are now assuming that it was dabi all along who was giving his mother flowers, clearly he isnt mad at her. I think it was fairly evident how ill she was, especially considering touyas the older sibling so he probably saw more of her moments and understood them more compared to the othet siblings. I think with the mix of what was happening with endeavor and shouto, along with her mental stability; he understands and isnt mad at her. If anything, hes more pissed at endeavor for how he treated his family but not killing him. If rei attempted to kill him in a moment of relapse, similar to shoutos incident, how could he be mad when she is mentally ill and he knows why and how and the total reasoning. Dabi may not be mad at rei and has definitely forgiven her quicker than endeavor, but with the consideration that endeavor has done far worse more times than rei, it makes sense. And rei can very clearly recall him. What im trying to say is that perhaps she sees the face of the child before his last moments.

I think its Rei and endeavor together, both at fault for dabi and touyas demise.

( Not to mention the commission has a history of hiding deaths (aizawas friend) or presumably killing people (best jeanist) or pretending to to get somewhere or to protect someone )
