Karaoke: League of Villains
what happens when you go out to a karaoke bar with the league of villains? villain edition ▷ heroes
When the League of Villains has a night off near a karaoke bar, it's decided you'll all go! Grabbing a big table right in the middle, you all put in your drink orders, grab a huge basket of fries, and start looking through the song list.

Himiko Toga ♫ I put a spell on youuuu because you're mine ♫
Toga sings a lot of love songs. She gets really into it and has a surprisingly good voice. Usually it's cute, sometimes it's mildly threatening but you're into that...right? If she has a crush on you, she hasn't broken eye contact through an entire song. It's impressive.
Songs: I Put a Spell on You by Annie Lennox, One Way or Another by Blondie, and Paparazzi by Lady Gaga

Tomura Shigaraki ♫ disarm you with a smile and leave you like they left me here ♫
Shigaraki doesn't mind the attention as much as you'd assume. Being in front of a crowd doesn't bother him… But singing? That's a different story.
At first he's reluctant, saying he wants everyone else to go first. But after Twice gets him wasted (two shots. it takes two shots.) he decides, why not. No, he doesn't realize his song choices aren't the most uplifting - they seem perfectly fine to him, thanks.
Songs: Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins and Drain You by Nirvana

Dabi ♫ I watched a change in you, it's like you never had wings ♫
I still firmly stand by my head canon that Dabi would love to go out with people who are drinking then proceed to have n/a drinks all night and watch the shit show. Especially at karaoke where there is much shit show to be seen.
(additionally, the last time he drank at a karaoke bar he sang Family by Badflower and he was not crying the lights were just bright and they burned a little, okay?)
He waits until the end of the night when everyone else is drunk before singing.
Songs: Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash, Change by Deftones and Faint by Linkin Park

Magne ♫ cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able to make it enough for you to be open wide ♫
So you know that person who gets way too into singing the song You Outta Know by Alanis Morissette? That's Magne. She puts everything into it and none of you are quite sure if you should be applauding or concerned.
Songs: She also sings What's Up by 4 Non Blondes

Spinner ♫ there's a fire starting in my heart, reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark ♫
Spinner has been sitting quietly in the corner of the bar all night, watching as everyone else sings. Too quietly. Eventually, a few League members *cough* Compress and Twice *cough* decide he should join in the fun. He replies that he is having fun, but they've already pulled him onto the makeshift stage. He enjoys doing one song with them, but is very happy to resume his spot sitting and cheering everyone else on.
Songs: Rolling in the Deep by Adele (with Compress and Twice, they heard him singing it in the shower once and put the request in)

Twice ♫ dun dun do da do do da do do da doo doooo ♫
Twice is so excited to be here (no he isn't!) He put in fifteen of the most random songs possible. By the end of the night, it's just him and Compress passing the mic back and forth. He even does duets with his doubles!
Songs: A Whole New World from Little Mermaid, Reign in Blood by Slayer (including the instrumental parts), and Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks

Mr. Compress ♫ easy come easy go will you let me go let me goooo ♫
Compress does not simply sing, he performs. He picks something dramatic and also takes requests. By the end of the night, he's completely hogging the mic which is fine with the rest of the group since most of them didn't really want to sing anyways.
This goes on until around three am when most of the group are tired, drunk/hungover, and want to go home. Seeing that Dabi is about to burn the place down, Tomura grabs the mics with all five fingers.
Karaoke night is over.
Songs: sings a lot from musicals, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen (duet with Twice and his doubles), and anything else you want.

Word Count: ~2700

Much love to @lastactiontricia for patting my head and lying enough to inflate my ego.

April 2005
Dean did not want to be walking through the Roadhouse doors, but the heavy oak swung wide all the same. It was his first time back since the funeral. Hell, it had been nearly a year since he had been home at all, and even longer since he had been to see Ellen.
But when she called and told him she needed him here this year, he cut a deal with his manager and got his ass back to Nebraska.
It was like walking into a time capsule. Everything was the same. It even smelled the same, wood polish met with beer stale cigar smoke. But there was no Jo there to greet him with her brusk appraisal and her hidden playfulness. She was gone and the pit inside his stomach reopened in the blink of an eye.
“You good?” Sam murmured, the sound making Dean realize he had stopped walking, eyes still scanning the bar for someone who wasn’t there.
“Yeah, gonna hit the head— find us a seat will ya?”
Sam’s face told him he didn’t buy it, but Dean didn’t wait around for pity. He disappeared into the dark hallway that led to the bathrooms, which was another mistake. Because even there he had memories of Jo.
It was like the guilt had finally caught up with him, making him rush into a stall and wretch into the toilet. Stomach acid and grief burned his insides, leaving him more hollowed out than relieved.
But this wasn’t about him. It was about being there for Ellen. And so he spit out what he could and got himself cleaned up at the sinks before Sam came looking for him. By the time Dean made it back to the front of house, Ellen had found Sam. All five and a half feet of her had latched onto the overgrown mop and was squeezing him for all he was worth.
“Hey, Ellen,” Dean said, voice still rough from throwing up. But he, at least, had the sense to shove a stick of gum into his mouth in the meantime.
“Come here, you too,” Ellen insisted, practically shoving Sam out of the way as she brought Dean down to her level. “It’s so good to have you home.”
“Yeah. Sorry—.” Dean swallowed, unable to find words big enough for what he was feeling.
Ellen held on tighter. “None of that. Today is for celebrating. Not feeling sorry for ourselves, you hear me?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
She pulled back, but kept him in her grasp, her dark eyes searched his face for everything he couldn’t say. Or wouldn’t admit. She sighed, but let him go in the end.
“Okay, Garth will be here any minute to get things set up, but if you two want to make yourselves useful, start by hauling the long tables out of the storeroom after the bathrooms.”
“Sounds good.” Sam nodded.
“How many?” Dean asked.
Ellen smiled sadly, just one side of her face showing any emotion. “All of them.”
Dean didn’t even notice as the bar started to fill up, he was too busy with the manual labor to press the flesh. He was also hesitant to update anybody from his hometown on his music career which was hanging on by a thread at any given moment. He was in no mood for small talk, no matter how earnest the initiator.
“I’m gonna get something to drink, want anything?” Sam asked as they locked the legs of the last table into place.
“Just grab a pitcher of whatevers on tap.” Dean wiped his forehead off with the back of his forearm and looked around for a booth to hide in. But there were people everywhere now and he really didn’t know what to do with himself. It was the funeral all over again, people looking at him with worry or pity, even suspicion.
He needed out.
With no sense of direction or health code ordinances, Dean rounded the bar and headed into the kitchen. Ellen wasn’t at the grill, she had outsourced the meal preparations to a local caterer. The blur of their yellow polo uniforms was all Dean saw as he searched for an escape.
He stepped out the employee exit and almost ran right into you. Pacing and smoking up a storm in the damp spring air, Dean almost didn't recognize you. He had only really met you the one time. Besides that you had still been in the hospital for the funeral.
“Sorry!”
“It’s fine. Just getting some air.”
“Yeah, me too.” You held up your cigarette ruefully.
Dean surprised you both and laughed at your twisted joke.
“Can I bum one? It’ll give me an excuse to be out here.”
You handed over your pack with the lighter inside. He took one and lit it, then handed the bundle back. It was quiet and it took a couple minutes for either of you to disrupt it.
“She’d rip us both a new one if she knew what we were doing.” You didn’t have to specify who you meant, Dean knew.
He nodded, blowing smoke rings and watching them float up to the sky.
“She was always so easy to piss off.”
You sighed. “For real.”
“I miss that.”
“Yeah.”
Dean didn’t say another word, you finished your square and left him out there on his own. A long look and regretful nod was the only thing you shared for some time.

February 2010
“Look, I mean we definitely had some fun. But— there’s no way the kid is mine. I always wrap it up, okay?”
Dean felt like he was going insane. You had barely gotten into the swing of things as Phantom Traveler’s publicist and then Lisa came crawling out of the woodwork with a baby and an open palm.
“Condoms aren't 100 percent effective. But we will continue with a firm line of denial until you’re proven innocent.”
Dean felt your doubt loud and clear. “Wow, gee thanks.”
“Don’t be like that, it is my job to prepare for anything.”
Dean held your gaze. You were wearing your hair just above your shoulders now, a professional bob if he ever saw one. He thought you were overcompensating or at least trying too hard to be taken seriously. It was rock n roll, no one should take themselves that seriously.
“Okay, Trouble, we will just have to wait and see who's right in the end.”
“Please, don't call me that.”
“Nuh-uh, I think Ellen was right. You're trouble and people should be warned about you up front.”
You rolled your eyes. “Real mature.”
Dean smacked his lips and batted his eyelashes at you. “I think I’m adorable.”
“You’re a real beauty queen alright. Anything else you need from us? Or can I take this idjit back to rehearsal?” Bobby cut the banter off before Dean could really get under your skin.
“He’s all yours,” you said knowingly.
Dean wanted to have the last word, but sometimes the words wouldn’t come out when he needed them most. Instead he watched you gather your messenger bag and your phone before heading outside to find yourself a ride. He almost didn’t believe it when Sam told him you still wouldn’t drive. But after a few months, and probably a third of your income spent on transportation, Dean knew you’d made your peace with it.
Maybe he shouldn’t be such a dick so often.

September 2013
Dean handed you the keys.
“Rent’s due first of the month?” you asked.
“Whenever, honestly, I’m not that much of a stickler and what’s Sam’s is mine.”
You both didn’t mention that Dean and Charlie had been monitoring Sam’s spending closer than Ebenezer Scrooge since he got out of rehab.
“Anything else I should know?” you asked, clearly nervous to have the responsibility of a whole house on your own.
“Uh, Malcolm and Tamara next door are great, think they introduced themselves when we first backed the truck in.” Dean tried to think. “Garbage schedule is still on the fridge. And, yeah, don’t burn the place down.”
“I’ll do my best.” You held up your hand in the scout’s pledge.
“Is there anything else you need help setting up? I don’t have to meet up with Benny until like seven for the Dodgers game.”
“Nah, get out of here. I’m good.”
Just then Sam laid on the horn from the driveway.
“Guess that’s my cue.” You walked him to the backdoor and watched him go.
“Thanks again!”
Dean held his hand up over his head in a wave without looking back. He then flipped Sam off for sitting in the driver’s seat and being such an impatient infant. And then crawled into his baby.
“Everything good?”
“Yeah, just making sure she had everything.”
Sam rolled his eyes. “She can call if she has any questions, man.”
Dean shrugged and reached along the bench seat to watch as he backed up. He felt Sam’s eyes on him for another mile and a half. He ignored his brother and tried to downplay how he was nervous leaving you alone.
It was a safe neighborhood. You’d be fine.
Dean just needed to get over himself.

May 2017
Dean found his way back to his hotel room sometime after four in the morning. His knuckles were still raw from their run in with Cas’ face and all he wanted to do was pass out and forget any of it even happened. The alcohol and absinthe in his system had started to dwindle and he needed a soft landing before the hangover crept in.
Instead, he found you waiting for him on the couch of his suite. Shoes off and tucked under a blanket, you were half asleep watching some 80s B movie on cable.
“What the fuck are you doing in here?”
“Waiting for your sorry ass.”
“K. Well, I’m going to bed.”
The television turned off behind him, leaving the room in looming silence.
“The tour’s over, Dean.”
He turned to look at you like you were crazy. You kind of were. “It’s just one show! We can reschedule.”
You shook your head and crossed your arms over your chest. “No. Cas left. Everyone decided it’s for the best.”
Dean inhaled and rubbed his barely scabbed-over knuckles. “It’s my fucking band. They don’t get to make a decision like that.”
“Tough.”
Dean let that hit. It didn’t make sense, so he latched onto the next thing he could. Lashing out with his tongue instead of his fists, “why’d they send you to be the messenger?”
“They didn’t. They’re planning on bum rushing you in the morning. I thought you’d appreciate the head’s up.” You eyed him and dropped your arms. “I guess I was wrong. See you later, Dean.”
He chewed over a few choice words, but in the end he let you leave, too ashamed and disgusted with himself to even spread the misery.
Why’d you always know what was best for him when he didn’t even know himself?!

Now (March 2018):
Of all the cruel and condescending things Dean thought about himself over the years, he didn't actually believe he was an idiot. But that was the only explanation he had currently that made sense. There you stood curled in on yourself outside a no name truck stop on the way to Albuquerque, sniffling with your headphones hanging around your neck, asking him if ‘Pushing Through’ was your song.
“Whose else would it be?!” Dean said and instantly regretted it. That knee-jerk response just reiterated his idiocy. Because now you were full out crying.
“Shhhhh, okay? I’m sorry. I thought you knew----.” Dean crowded into your space, brushing the hair out of your face as he cupped your opposite elbow, trying to soothe you as best he could. “Don’t be mad. I don’t have to keep singing it. We can change the setlist if you want.”
You shook your head and inhaled wetly.
“Uhhh— shit, no, I’m not mad. I’m— I don’t even know.” Then you looked up at him and Dean felt his heart thundering in his ears. “Do you— do you know what it sounds like? Like it sounds like a love song. And I just have to know. Okay? Tell me.”
Dean licked his lips, breaking the line of questioning pouring out of your eyes. The tears were going to do him in. He wasn’t strong enough for that anymore.
“Yeah, uh–” He cleared his throat. “I figured that’s what it was when I was finishing the bridge.”
You sniffed, but seemed to be calming down now you had a clear objective. “Which was when?”
Dean scratched his jaw and dropped back on his heels, dipped his chin, and let his hands slip onto your waist. He went for it.
“You know when we recorded Trouble. Ask me the real question.”
You blinked up at him with that little furrow in your brow that told him you were annoyed more than confused. He had messed with your momentum, but he really hoped you’d hold on and you’d jump together.
You picked at something on his shirt, a button or a button hole, but you didn’t meet his eye.
Dean leaned forward and kissed the spot between your eyes that had him so distracted. “It’s okay.”
“Did ya mean it?” You looked up at him from under your lashes, with a glare like you were daring him to lie.
He ducked his head down lower, making you look. “Every line.”
You honest-to-god stomped your foot and Dean would have laughed if he wasn’t frozen by your sudden movement. “Are you kidding me?! You cannot like-like me. I am a me. You are you!”
Dean rolled his eyes. “Hey, Trouble?”
“What?”
“It’s just you and me. No paps, no band, no Bela.”
“No Jo.”
Dean sucked in a breath through his teeth, “yep.”
“Dean, you can’t be serious.”
Dean didn’t answer, he just looked at you, his right hand went up without his better judgement and cradled your jaw. “Is this alright?”
“What? Oh– yeah, it’s, uh, yeah.”
“Good. I’m going to kiss you now.”
“Dean.”
“Please?”
You rolled your eyes and huffed. “If you must.”
Dean smirked, but then his lips were too busy making yours move. You tasted like lip gloss and then something faintly sweet, maybe soda. It wasn’t until you opened up for him that he felt you really relax. Balancing with a warm hand against his chest you leaned into the kiss, testing his tongue with yours.
Dean hummed and eased out of the kiss, opening his eyes and slowly brushing your nose with his until you looked back at him.
“Was that so bad?”
“Hmmm, I think we could do better.”
Dean’s face almost split open with joy. “Is that so?”
“Yeah.”
Then you were kissing him, lips soft yet urgent, tongue seeking him out. Dean held you close and tried to keep up.
You pulled back and looked at him like you always did, both fond and annoyed. “I can’t believe you. What are we gonna do now?!”
“Anything you want.”
And he meant it. It didn’t matter that they had a show the next day or that the band was probably waiting for you. Whatever you wanted, it would be yours. You already had his heart and you finally knew it. All that was left was to make you happy and keep you that way.
“Sit with me on the bus? I have some questions.”
Dean knew it wasn’t going to be that easy, but at least you couldn’t get too angry with everybody else within earshot.
“‘Course.”
You grinned up at him and left a peck on his lips.
“Okay, let me finish my pitstop and clean some of the snot off my face.”
Dean rolled his eyes. “You’re fine, but I’ll wait for you back at the bus.”
“Deal.” You nodded and bit your lips, like you were trying not to smile.
So, Dean winked at you as you walked away, which made you walk into the door a kind stranger was holding open for you. He couldn’t take you anywhere.
“Sorry. That’s on him.” He heard you mutter and then watched as you disappeared inside the convenience store.

Part 2
The brief silence was ripped apart as Y/N woke, blood-curdling screams leaving her lips as if she were picking up where she left off, with Dean slicing and digging into her chest.
“Y/N,” Dean jumped and dashed to her side. He grabbed her hand tightly, “It’s okay, it’s okay, we got out. It’s over now.”
With a hiccupped sob, she opened her eyes and saw Dean beside her. She weakly pulled her hand from his, and tears streamed from her eyes. “Please. Please don’t hurt me anymore.”
Sam’s mouth hung open at her words before his heart clenched, seeing how much her reaction broke Dean's heart. Trying to smooth over the situation, he came to Y/N’s side.
“He had to,” he said in the softest voice he could muster. “He didn’t want to, Y/N. But he saved all of us by doing it.”
“I-it’s over?” she responded. “C-can I go home?”
“Something tells me we’re not doing that any time soon,” Gene mumbled, her knees still bunched to her chest as she stared into space, trying to come to terms with everything she just heard.
“You’re safest here, okay?” Sam looked at both girls and tried to reassure them. “It’s one of the safest places in the world, practically.”
“That man literally appeared in the room right in front of me. I’m not feeling great about that,” Gene scoffed.
“She’s right,” Dean said, his voice barely audible as his eyes fixed on the ground. “We need to increase the warding,” he said before leaving the room, not looking at anyone or waiting for a response.
“I have to go home,” Y/N pleaded, hopping off the chair. “I need clothes, and I have a job and bills and…”
“You can’t,” Sam said, a little more forcefully than he intended. He clenched his jaw, shook his head, and composed himself. “Look, why don’t I find some clothes for you two? You can shower, and we have a ton of rooms here. You can rest.”
Y/N and Gene reluctantly nodded and silently followed Sam. Gene felt like she could trust him; maybe that was their connection. Y/N was still terrified and in shock and didn’t know what to think or feel. But she didn’t have a choice and complied. Sam promised he and Dean would take a drive to get their things before leaving them to rest.
-
Once on the road, Sam called Garth to update him on the situation. While Garth was glad they had found Imogene, another hunter reported that her family had been killed. He also had someone working to pack up her things and would bring them to Sam later.
Dean and Sam failed to contain their anger and guilt. They had both dreamed of finding their soulmate - something most people had, though not all - and their lives were ruined once they did. But Sam said the women would need them even more now because the brothers were all they had left.
Y/N lived in Kansas City, so it wasn’t too far for them to get to her apartment. Sam located her family on the other side of the city with some research. They wanted to ensure they were okay since Gene’s family was murdered. But when they got there, the house was surrounded by emergency vehicles and flashing lights, several bodies on gurneys wheeled out of the single-family home.
They drove to Y/N’s apartment in silence, unsure what they could say to each other or themselves to make any of what happened better. When they arrived at the small, one-bedroom apartment, it had been tossed like Gene’s family home and left in disarray.
“Who’s doing this?” Dean muttered to his brother as he examined the damage.
“I don’t know,” Sam sighed heavily.
The brothers drew their guns when they heard a noise from the back of the apartment. Sam nodded at Dean, who took the lead. Hurried steps carried him down the hall, where he kicked open the slightly ajar door to the bedroom. Two men were searching the room, tossing drawers and items about.
“Winchesters,” they sneered.
“Demon scum, I presume,” Dean retorted.
However, when their eyes didn’t change, and long, silver blades extended from the sleeves into their waiting hands, he knew they weren’t demons.
“Angels,” Dean growled.
He tucked away his gun and retrieved an Angel blade from his jacket, facing off against one of the angels. Sam did the same, turning toward the second man. The angels were somehow stronger and more challenging than most they’d faced, which led to the brothers taking quite a beating before stabbing and killing their opponents.
They each climbed to their feet. The room was worse than before, with furniture smashed and walls filled with holes and dents from impacts. They were once again bloodied and bruised, as if Cas had never healed them, to begin with. They weren’t sure they could get him to respond and help this time.
“You think Cas is behind this?” Sam huffed.
“I really hope not,” Dean responded, though the thought crossed his mind.
After gathering some clothes and potentially sentimental items from the debris, the guys returned to the Bunker, unsure how to deliver the awful news.
-
The Impala was packed with anything the guys deemed necessary for the women to have from their homes—at least, the salvageable things. As Dean parked the car in the garage and turned off the ignition, they both sighed in relief at being home.
They decided since it was the middle of the night and they were covered in a myriad of cuts and bruises, that unpacking could wait. They were too worn out to bother and still had to face the women and the heartbreak they’d likely endure.
Y/N and Gene were fast asleep in their rooms, and neither stirred when Sam and Dean checked on them. Dean grabbed a bottle of whiskey en route to the infirmary. They would need several drinks to get past what happened and help tend to their wounds.
Despite their injuries, neither wanted to contact Cas if he had been involved. His parting words didn’t instill confidence. Besides, it wasn’t the first time they’d had to patch and heal the old-fashioned way, and it probably wouldn’t be the last.
“What are we gonna do about Y/N and Gene?” Sam asked as they worked to clean and patch themselves and each other.
“We have plenty of room,” Dean said. “They can stay here as long as they need. Not like we’re in a hurry to get rid of ‘em.”
“We can’t keep them locked up here like prisoners, though, Dean,” Sam sighed. “We can’t do to them what Dad did to us just because we’re afraid of what might happen.”
“Based on what I saw out there, we don’t have a choice, Sam,” Dean shook his head in defeat.
“I’ve been researching,” Sam said as they finished tending to their wounds. “As far as I can tell, death is the only way to break a soul bond.” He sighed, running his hands through his hair.
“I think we’re at the point where even if the bonds could be broken, it still wouldn’t remove the target off their backs.”
“Well, there’s something else I read,” Sam sighed, looking over Dean cautiously as he sat opposite him at the table. “Can I ask...did you feel a sort of separation anxiety while we were gone?”
“All I wanted to do since leaving here was high tail it straight back, if that’s what you mean?”
Sam nodded slowly, “I think that’s part of what Cas meant by being distracted. From what I’ve learned, soulmates can’t be too far apart for too long when a soul bond is made. Something like going to work is fine, but you’re eager to get home. But with what we do, being gone so long sometimes and far...I don’t know if we could handle the separation,” he sighed. “How bad was it? How bad was the need to return?”
Dean stayed quiet for a moment, looking at Sam with a gloomy expression, “I kept...it’s like my brain just kept showing the millions of things that could have happened while I was gone. Most of them, if not all, not exactly have the best outcomes, to put it lightly.”
“I felt the same things. And, no offense, Dean, but your mind always goes to the worst,” Sam chuckled lightly before quieting down again. “From what Cas said and what I’ve read, we have two choices. Either train them to be hunters or early retirement.”
“We need to talk to them and tell them everything. This isn’t just our call.”
-
The following day, Sam and Dean met in the kitchen over coffee. Sleep avoided them both as their minds reeled over what had happened and the new guests under their roof.
“I know, I thought about it, too. I’d give the world a month before it gets destroyed without us?”
“A lot of those ‘world-ending’ things were because of us,” Sam grumbled.
“Not all of them?” Dean countered with a slight shrug. “Look, we can’t force the girls to fight or leave them behind, so...it’s up to them. Whatever they decide, we’ll do.”
“You think it’ll be that easy?”
Dean paused to think, chewing on his bottom lip, “I think we need to figure out who’s behind all this. Who kidnapped Gene and Y/N? Who knew they were our soulmates? We also need to find out if Cas ordered the angels to kill their families.”
“I can call Garth to see if he can’t get others on hunts and if there’s any info he has or can find relating to this.”
The sound of shuffling from down the hall drew both brothers’ attention as Y/N made her way into the kitchen. She stopped in the doorway, looking like she would run at any minute. Dean watched her, desperate to get her to look at him but anxious that just being there scared her.
She turned and looked at them, first at Sam, his expression gentle and open. Then she looked at Dean, who looked eager and heartbroken.
“Um, can...is it okay if we...I thought maybe we could talk?” she finally spit out, her eyes locked on Dean’s.
“Yes,” Dean answered quickly. “Of course, absolutely, definitely. "
He shuffled in his seat and gave Sam a side-eyed glare. Sam smiled at Y/N as he passed by her. He turned around, mouthing to Dean from behind her back, Don’t fuck it up.
In Sam’s absence, Y/N fidgeted with her hands as she shuffled on her feet, glancing at Dean and away again repeatedly as if she couldn’t find any words.
“Do you want some coffee?” Dean offered as he poured a cup, bringing it to the table and setting it in front of her before he retook his seat at the kitchen table across from her.
“Thank you,” she finally said, forcing herself to look at him.
“Just coffee,” he mumbled with a shrug, but his head perked up when she giggled.
“Well, that, too,” she laughed. “But I meant about what happened and what…what you did. I know what happened wasn’t easy on any of us, but you saved us. So...thank you.” She took a long breath.
Dean was momentarily speechless. Even with her thanks, it didn’t alleviate his pain, as flashes of what he had done flitted through his mind. But he also knew he needed to bite the bullet and inform her of what had transpired at her home and with her family.
“Look, I don’t want to drop even more on you, but some things happened while we went to get your and Gene’s things.”
“Somehow, I’m not surprised,” she said with a long sigh. At this point, the overwhelming bad she’d endured had made her almost numb.
Dean explained how they found their homes, the angels they fought, and their families' deaths. Y/N took it all in but didn’t speak a word. Instead, she began to cry, and Dean rushed to sit beside her, offering comfort.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “No one should ever have to endure that; you’ve done nothing to deserve it. And it’s my fault." He clenched his jaw. “But, with all of this that we’re now all wrapped up in, I mean it when I say I won’t let anyone ever hurt you again.”
“I know you’ll try,” she said, taking comfort in his touch and warmth. “But you can’t promise that. Not really,” she said. With a deep breath, she forced herself to continue.
“I’ve been thinking over everything. And I know I hurt you when I freaked out, and I’m sorry about that. I was hurt and scared, but if I had to choose between my position and yours, I think I would’ve chosen mine. I think doing what you did would have been significantly harder. It didn’t just happen to me; it happened to you, too.”
She shrugged before chuckling slightly, a slight blush over her face as she hesitantly met his eyes again, “For what it’s worth, and as crazy as it sounds, I kind of missed you while you were gone.”
A tiny smile tugged on Dean’s lips as he felt his heart swell. She was talking to him. She wasn’t scared of him. She’d missed him.
“I missed you too,” he said bashfully, his cheeks tinged slightly pink. “You have no idea how much resistance it took not to spin that car around and speed right back here.”
“Is it because of the soulmate thing?” she asked, meeting his eyes. Dean let his hands slide from her as she pulled back to look at him, but he was already missing the feel of her. “I’ve been feeling odd, the missing you thing and other things. Is that the bond?”
“Sam just told me something about there being ‘separation anxiety’ buried in the soulmate fine print,” Dean shrugged. “So I guess so. We were just discussing whether we could keep doing our jobs now.”
“Right,” Y/N nodded. “Uh...monster hunting, right?”
“You know,” Dean chuckled. “Just your standard nine-to-five monster-hunting gig.”
“Sorry, I’m trying,” she laughed. “But I get the impression you’re too important to walk away from all of that. So what does that mean? For Gene and I? Cause I can’t go home, and I don’t really wanna put myself in harm’s way, which I guess is sort of inevitable at this point…” she muttered, dropping her gaze to the table. “A-and now we’re in your home, practically strangers…”
“Hey,” Dean interrupted her softly. “Don’t worry. Nothing has to be decided yet. We’ll work it out one step at a time, okay? I just want you to feel safe and welcome here as long as you need.”
Y/N nodded and smiled. When Dean opened his arms, she accepted, tucking herself into him as his arms came back around her, holding her close. She’d never felt so safe and warm in her life. Even though she’d discovered the supernatural was real, and even though Dean had cut into her and held her heart - something that felt more violating and intimate than anything ever could - she didn’t want to leave. She knew she couldn’t go home, but beyond that, she didn’t want to part from Dean, no matter what did or could happen.

Little Angel pt. 4
Hey! I fell asleep almost immediately when I got home, so it's a little later than I said. Sorry!
Word Count: 3554
Hedione is pronounced HEE DEE OH KNEE.
Set in season 8 episode 8. This one's longer for you though, enjoy!
*****
“Lena, we need to talk.”
Selena whipped around to stare at Sam. “Talk? Now you want to talk? No, Sam, I’m done. I told you, you could just forget about us. I’ll keep going with Garth. You didn’t want to find your brother, fine. But you could’ve helped me try. Losing Dean, that’s one of the hardest things either of us could go through. It happened. He was gone for a year, and where were you? You moved on. You moved in with a woman! Did you think I didn’t know that? Word goes around, Sammy Winchester moved in with a woman in Texas and gave up hunting. You know what that did to me? Our cupid angel visited me quite a few times. He kept telling me you would come back and everything would be fine. Here we are, coincidentally meeting on a case. How could it be a coincidence when my heart is broken? Our cupid angel told me, my heart is literally broken. It’s cracked without you but I can’t just let you walk all over me. It’s too complicated for us. It needs to be business or pleasure. It can’t be both, Sam. I…” she takes a big breath and wipes the tears from her eyes, “Sam, you know how much I love you, and I do. I really do, but whenever we try to be together, something goes south. I know we’re supposed to be soulmates, but there’s no way we end up together alive. One of us always dies or Dean dies or the world is ending, and it’s too much. I love you with everything I have. I would do anything, be anything for you. But we’re either hunting together or we are together. I can’t, no, I won’t be both.”
Dean stared at her. Her face was red, and her eyes were really red, like she had already been crying before she came back to their hotel room.
“Selena-“
She turned towards Dean. “Dean, please. I love you so much, and I’ve missed both of you more than anything. I just can’t do this anymore. Throwing ourselves into every fight that comes our way and not even bothering to think about the outcome. I’m exhausted. Emotionally, mentally, and physically. I love you, and that’s why I’m doing this. It’s always been about saving each other, not about saving the world. So if I come back to hunting with you guys, that’s what it has to be. It has to be about the world, and if I die, then so be it. Don’t try to bring me back.”
Sam and Dean threw each other a glance, one that spoke volumes.
“Okay. So be it then. If you die, you die. You and Sam don’t have to be together, you can just be there with us. Hunting, like the good old days.”
“Wait a second, Dean. I want to be with her. I want her. She’s my soulmate, don’t you think it would be better for us to be together?”
Dean pulled Sam to the side, throwing a glance to Selena as she sat down on his bed.
“Sammy, either you get her, or we both do. She either leaves this life and you, or stays hunting with us and we both get her.”
Sam huffed out a breath. “Fine.”
“If you’re around each other, you might heal her heart.”
“I don’t know, Dean. I guess we’ll see.”
They turn around and Selena is no longer crying, but blankly looking at the wall. Dean walks over and sits next to her on the bed. She shifts with his weight, but she doesn’t even blink.
“Lena?” Dean asks, shaking her body.
She continues to stare forward, not answering. Dean looks up at Sam and motions him over. What is going on? Sam grabs Selena’s hand, which he’s been dying to do since she’s come back. Again, nothing. They watch her face as her eyes roll back into her head.
“Lena? Selena?”
Dean is now violently shaking her body. What is happening? She slumps over onto Sam’s chest, eyes closed. Sam eyes Dean as he holds her close to him. They feel for her heartbeat, strong and unwavering. Sam picks her up and lays her on the bed.
“Dean, what was that?”
Dean meets his eyes with a worried expression on his face.
“I don’t know. We’re gonna need answers when she wakes up.”
They walk out of the hotel room to face Garth. Maybe he knows something, seeing as they’ve been working together for the past year.
“Garth, hold up.”
He smiles, “Yeah Dean?”
“Uh,” he throws a look towards Sam before continuing, “has Selena been having dizzy spells or anything?”
“Dizzy spells? Lord, no. She’s the healthiest she’s ever been as far as I know, why?”
“Oh, she just tripped over her own feet a few minutes ago.”
“Oh yeah, well I never said she wasn’t clumsy.”
Sam says, “Right, okay. Well, she’s going to be coming with us, if that’s okay with you.”
“If it’s okay with me? You guys are all she ever talks about. I’m not sure why she’d want to go with you, seeing as y’all aren’t together anymore but-”
“Garth, she made her choice, okay?”
He eyes Sam up and down, “Uh, yeah, okay. Her bag is in the trunk.”
Sam gets her bag from the trunk and carries it into the hotel room. Dean gives Garth a hug and tells him goodbye before walking into the room himself.
“Wait!”
Dean turns as he’s about to close the hotel room door, “Yeah?”
“Um, she doesn’t want to say goodbye or anything?”
“She said she’d give you a call. She just wanted to rest for a bit before we left town.”
Garth nods, “Okay. I’ll be seeing you guys around, I guess.”
“Yeah, we’ll see ya, Garth.”
He walks into the hotel room, seeing Sam sitting on the bed holding Selena’s hand. He walks over and sits next to Sam.
“You know this has trouble written all over it. He didn’t even know about her heart, Sam. What is she keeping from us?”
“Yeah, yeah, I-“
Selena sits up straight with a gasp, “What’s going on?”
“We thought you might be able to explain.”
“What happened?”
“You were sitting here, staring at the wall, not blinking. Then all of a sudden, your eyes rolled back into your head and you passed out.”
Selena visibly shivered. She wouldn’t meet either of the boys’ eyes.
“Lena, if you know what happened, we need to know. We can help.”
She sighs and looks up at Sam, “You can’t help.”
“You know what’s wrong?” Dean questions.
She huffs out a breath, ripping her hand out of Sam’s hold on her.
“Where’s Garth? We have to get a move on. We already got a call for another town.”
She stands quickly, wobbling on her feet. Sam is quick to grab her until she’s steady.
“I’m fine,” she says, pushing Sam off of her, “It’s nothing you two need to worry about.”
“Lena, please. Just sit and let us explain.”
She meets Dean’s eyes before nodding and sitting back down on the bed.
“Okay um,” Dean clasps and unclasps his hand a few times, “we sent Garth packing.”
“You what?” She yells, running toward the door and ripping it open. She can’t find Garth’s car, she reaches into her back pocket feeling for her phone. It’s not there. She whips around to stare at the boys. Sam shakes her phone in his hand. She huffs before walking back to the bed and sitting once more.
“We want you with us, Lena. We’ve missed you too. You and Sam don’t have to be together, but we’re not complete without you and with Bobby being gone-“
“Please don’t speak of him,” she says, looking down at her feet.
“I’m sorry. I know, it’s been hard on all of us. We need you with us. We told Garth you wanted to stay and that you’d give him a call when we got our shit together.”
She sighs again, “Okay. Fair is fair, I suppose. I’ll tell you what you want to know.”
Sam and Dean sit on either side of her, waiting for her to start.
“So this is going to sound really crazy. You might get mad at me, honestly.”
Dean grabs her hand, “Lena, we won’t be mad.”
She smiles at him before continuing, “Okay. Look, a few years back Castiel and I were close. You remember, right?”
“Yeah, you guys were always going off together. Sam was mad about it, of course.”
"I wasn’t mad-“
“You were so jealous-“
“Guys, please!”
“Right, sorry.”
“We were kind of experimenting with the whole angel part of me.”
“Experimenting how?”
“Well, Cass and I found out that we could communicate with our minds. Like full-on telepathy crap, right? That’s how he and I got close. We spent some time practicing. At first, I could only talk to Cass and our,” she says, motioning to her and Sam, “cupid angel. Now I can talk to a few different people.”
“People?”
“Uh, so to speak, I guess. Angels, ghosts, monsters, demons-“
“So let me get this straight. You can talk to everything we hunt and you never bothered to tell us?”
“It’s not like that, Dean! This past year, it’s been hard. Cass was helping me with it but once you guys disappeared, it was hard. My mind… something changed. It was hard to talk to anyone without it hurting. I stopped, for the longest time I stopped. I had these splitting headaches every time I tried. My brain felt like mush. I couldn’t let Garth see me that way. I stopped trying to talk to things and just lived like a normal hunter. Research and more research. Working out while Garth was sleeping, talking to my dad’s old contacts, you guys wouldn’t believe it. I went and got my hair and nails done. Ha, can you believe that? We had some time in between cases.”
“You stopped?”
“I had to. Although I have some angelic grace in me, I wasn’t healing as quickly as I used to. Especially being around Sam, my body and my mind were in tune. They were one with each other. I was whole. I had my soulmate by my side, the people I loved always right next to me. I was complete. Now that I’m back with you two, maybe things will be okay. I’ve always tried to see the positive side.”
“Yeah right! ‘If I die then I die, so be it’.”
“Sam, this is not the time-“
Sam stands, “No, Dean. Have we even thought this through? When I was without my soul, Lena struggled badly. You told me she almost died. What would happen if she did die? Would I die? What would happen?”
Selena grabs Sam’s hand and says, “I can call Hedione, he might know what to do.”
“Hee dee what now?” Dean asks.
Lena looks at Dean and explains, “Hedione. He’s our cupid angel.”
“So you know his name?” Sam questions.
“We used to be in constant communication, so yes, I know his name. I can just reach out to him and-“
“Reach out to him, how? Not telepathically, right?” Dean interrupts.
“Well-“
“No, Lena,” Sam interjects, “it’s too dangerous. You didn’t see what just happened to you. Your eyes rolled back into your head, and you passed out.”
Selena sighs, “Just… hold me while I call out for him.”
Sam and Dean exchange wide-eyed glances. Dean isn’t sure if she means him or Sam. Normally, he would assume Sam, but given the circumstances, he feels the need to clarify.
“Me or Sam?”
Selena looks at him blankly, “Did you really just ask me that question?”
“Well, you were throwing him off before, I don’t know.”
“I’m stronger with him closer.”
“So you’re at your strongest when you’re having-“
“Dean!”
“Sorry, sorry.”
Sam rubs his eyes and stifles a laugh. He would never tell Dean, but the answer to that question is yes. When they are intimate, and their bodies are one with each other, Lena’s eyes have a bright blue hue, reflecting her angelic grace. Sam moves to sit on the bed and extends his hand out for Selena. She smiles and motions for him to sit up against the headboard. He complies, and she crawls in between his legs, her back against his chest. She takes his arms and wraps them around herself, holding his hands in hers. Dean notices the blush on her cheeks and smiles.
“Okay, think of Hedione, both of you, while I call out to him.”
They nod and begin focusing on the angel in their minds. Sam closes his eyes and leans his head back against the headboard. Selena smiles before closing her eyes as well. Dean watches them with slightly squinted eyes. Lena’s eyes squeeze tighter as she focuses. Her hands become white-knuckled, gripping Sam’s hands tightly. A bit of blood falls from her nose, and just before Dean can pull them both out, Hedione appears. Selena’s eyes pop open, and she lets go of Sam’s hands to tap on his arm. He lets her go, and they stand.
“You summoned me, my dear?”
She wipes the blood off her face and smiles, “I did, Hedione. It’s good to see you.”
“Ah, the Winchesters. You’re back working with this lot, hey?”
She smiles back at the boys before turning once again to the angel, “Yeah. It’s the family business. We always end up back together.”
“Hmm, my dear, may I speak with you quickly? In your mind, perhaps, if you don’t want me to leave just yet.”
“Yeah, that’d be fine,” she reaches back searching for Sam’s hand.
He grabs her hand and stands beside her, wrapping an arm around her waist. Hedione smiles at the action before folding his hands over his heart. Selena sends a quick glance toward Dean and mouths something before turning back around.
‘Catch me if I fall.’
He nods and watches the interaction closely.
In Selena’s mind, the conversation starts.
‘Lena, this is not healthy. Being by his side but not with him will not help you. I was going to offer to take away the soulmate bond completely before you met a horrible death.’
‘And ruin your life’s work? I want to be his soulmate, and I want to stay by his side. I don’t expect you to understand, this is just a job for you. Sam is everything, Hedi, I can’t lose him again. I just need to find a way to get more grace.’
‘Angels have already been asking questions. I can’t steal more for you, I can, however, give you some of mine.’
‘Hedione, I couldn’t ask that from you. I can’t.’
‘You can and you will. Do you want the boys to know or not?’
‘No, I’ll seem like some kind of monster.’
‘Then we will meet somewhere tomorrow.’
‘I can’t talk to you without holding Sam, how will we do it?’
‘I’ll find you.’
Dean sees the blood dripping from both of her nostrils and makes a noise to alert Sam. He looks down, and his face pales. Selena feels her body shake, pulling her out.
“That’s enough,” Sam says, grabbing the towel from Dean and dabbing it against Selena’s nose.
Hedione’s eyes open and flash blue for a moment before they land on Selena. He nods before looking at Sam.
“I believe you had a few questions for me?”
Sam swallows and nods, his hands staying around Selena as she cleans her face.
“I was thinking about some things.”
“Mhm, continue.”
“If Selena were to die, what would happen to me if we didn’t bring her back?”
“Sam, if I may, can I ask you a question? Dean, you may also answer.”
The boys look at each other before nodding.
“How did it feel when you didn’t have a soul?”
They all flinch at the question.
"I apologize for the rude question. I was merely trying to state that how you felt then is how you would feel without Selena being alive. Not all soulmates are a romantic pairing. You may be platonic soulmates.”
“So you’re saying, if she dies, it would be like my soul is gone. Both of us are going to be fine even if we don’t end up together? As long as we’re alive?”
Dean catches the way the angel’s breath stutters for a moment before glancing quickly at Selena. She nods her head and the angel continues.
“Yes, as long as you are both alive you will be fine.”
Dean tightens his features. Had this angel just lied to them? If they were platonic soulmates, why would Selena have a crack in her heart? Selena seems to know Hedione was lying as well. Why was she covering for him? He notices Sam relaxing. Sam doesn’t think the angel is lying.
“Thank you, Hedione.”
The angel nods before making eye contact with Selena once more. He tips his head before disappearing. Selena wriggles out of Sam’s hold and turns towards the boys.
“Answer your questions?”
“Yeah, maybe you should lie down before we head out.”
Selena rolls her eyes, “Sam, it’s just a nosebleed. Nothing serious.”
“Well, we will pack your bag with ours, just take a quick nap or something.”
“Actually, um, can I call Garth really quick please?”
Sam and Dean look to each other for permission, they both shrug their shoulders and nod.
“Yeah, I don’t see why not.”
Sam hands Selena her phone as Dean picks up his and Lena’s bags. She opens the phone and dials his number.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“Wow, Garth, happy to hear from you too.”
“Le, it’s not like that. You didn’t want to say goodbye, huh?”
“You know how I am with goodbyes, G, I would’ve been a sobbing mess.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
“Are you gonna be okay on your own? The boys and I could come help with that case in Wichita-“
“I’m sure the Winchesters have bigger fish to fry. I got it covered. Don’t worry about me.”
She smiles, “Alright, G, stay safe though, okay? I don’t need someone calling me saying you got yourself killed. If you need help, I’m always just a call away.”
Selena hears him chuckle, “I got it, Le. Thank you.”
“I love you, stay in contact too.”
“I will. I love you too.”
“Bye.”
She hangs up and turns around to see Dean standing behind her, Sam nowhere to be seen.
“Whoa, hi, Dean.”
“Did you know he was lying?”
She scrunches her nose, “Who was lying?”
“Hedione, did you know he was lying?”
“Lying? What about?”
“Lena, please. You and Sam aren’t platonic soulmates. Not a chance in hell. Your heart wouldn’t be cracked if you were.”
“Dean, I-“
“Look, save it, okay? No more lies. If you’re with us, you’re with us.”
She let out a deep breath, “Fine. We aren’t platonic, we’re very much romantic soulmates. If he ends up with someone else, it would kill me. I’m not doing well, Dean. I’m really not. The only thing that’s been helping is grace. Hedione has been stealing it from angels for me, but it’s fading so quickly. He’s gonna give me some of his tomorrow.”
“And how is that? You need to hold onto Sam whenever you’re trying to communicate. You’re bleeding every time you do.”
“I know! I’m trying to get better, okay? I’m trying. Hedione said that Sam and I have to be together, but it’s not that simple!”
“It is! You remember how happy and healthy you were before I got sent to purgatory? We can be like that again. You just have to give Sammy another chance.”
“I try to let it go, but the pain that I felt when my heart cracked, the crack throbs around you guys. More so him, of course, but it’s not something I can just let go of. When I found out he moved on with another woman, the crack happened. Every time I see him, that’s all I can think about.”
“Push it away, Selena. Bury it, like you buried Ellen and Jo. Bury that woman in the back of your mind and don’t go there. Let him heal your heart. We need you whole with us.”
Selena’s face screwed up, “Fine. I’ll try my best, okay? We won’t be exactly the same, but I love him.”
Dean moved to hug her, and she wrapped her arms around his back, holding onto his shoulders.
He whispered, “Keep me in the loop. We don’t need to tell Sammy, I will help you with this.”
She sniffled, “Thank you, D. I love you so much.”
He pressed a kiss to her forehead, “I love you too.”
“We should get going.”
They both turned to look at the door and saw Sam standing in the door frame waiting for them.
“Oh and I call shotgun.”
“Ugh, Sam, you always get shotgun.”
“Now children, there are seats to go around. Lena, you need to rest, so I think it’d be safe to sit in the back for now, okay?”
She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, “I guess.”
“Alright! Let’s get this show on the road.”
*****
I picture Hedione as a British man if you couldn't tell by how he speaks. Since finding out her and Sam were soulmates, she and he had been in constant contact becoming somewhat good friends. I promise this will all make sense soon, I understand a lot of stuff in this chapter isn't canon what with my whole take on soulmates. However I did say I'd be transitioning the story, and what fun is it doing everything by the book?

My Ponyboy Curtis playlist because I love it, I listen to it quite frequently even when I’m not writing stuff involving him, and want to share it.
Fast Car- Tracy Chapman
Imagine- John Lennon
Dark Days- Punch Brothers
Mama Tried- Grateful Dead (The song is originally by Merle Haggard but I listen to the Grateful Dead version)
East Side of Sorrow- Zach Bryan
hope ur okay- Olivia Rodrigo
Renegades- X-Ambassadors
Everybody Wants To Rule The World- Tears For Fears
Boy In The Bubble- Alec Benjamin
Uptown Girl- Billy Joel
Everybody Knows- Sigrid
Friends In Low Places- Garth Brooks
Winter’s Come and Gone- Charles Wesley Godwin (Song originally by Gillian Welch but I feel like this version fits Ponyboy better)
teenage dream- Olivia Rodrigo
Youth- Daughter
Teenage Dirtbag- Wheatus
Friend of the Devil- Grateful Dead
You’re On Your Own Kid- Taylor Swift
Here Comes The Sun- The Beatles
Tomorrow Will Be Kinder- The Secret Sisters
My reason/analysis for each song is below:
Fast Car- I think the desperation for a better life but the cycle of how life can drag you down and make you live the same lives as the people is something that can relate to Pony. I feel like, deep down, he probably has a fear that things may not work out for him as well as people hope and that he may end up living the same kind of life as the rest of the people in his neighborhood which is why I also think it’s a great song to choose to have as the opener for the playlist. I know Luke Combs has a cover of this song and that it may be the more masculine take on it but I feel like the way Tracy Chapman sings it just has so much heart that it really works for Ponyboy. And plus, Tracy Chapman is my favorite artist so I had to go with her version.
Imagine- I think the song has a bit of a daydreamy kind of vibe that can represent how Ponyboy is described as having his head in the clouds. The song is also a call for peace and unity among people and asks them to imagine a world where what divides them no longer exists which is something that I can see Ponyboy longing for.
Dark Days- The song is about how love getting people through difficult times which is something that I think really works for the Curtis brothers because no matter what they love each other and will do whatever they can to help each other, especially after their parents die.
Mama Tried- I think the song works really well for the vibe of the gang as a whole even if it’s something that may directly relate to Ponyboy. And even if Ponyboy doesn’t get into much trouble I’m sure that he gets into more than his mother would have wanted for him (especially after goes on the run for Bob’s murder)
East Side of Sorrow- I think there is so much about the song that relate to so many people in the story but I’ll try to keep my analysis limited to Ponyboy. I think while when song talks about fighting a war that you don’t even know what your fighting for works well for the metaphorical war between the Greasers and the Socs in the books. It’s been going on long before Pony and will continue long after him and no matter what he will never fully understand it even though he too participates in it. “I lost friends in the August heat” I feel really relates to Johnny and Dally’s death, because it was probably about that time that the book takes place. And when the song talks about losing someone in the waiting room and that the doctor did all the could it really brings home the point about Johnny’s death. The song then mentions walking around the Tulsa streets while feeling fucked up which represent Pony’s depression after the death of Johnny and Dally and how he was aimlessly going through life. I also like how the song specifically refers to the east, and of course the Greasers live on the East side of Tulsa. The song then also talks about the sunrise as a symbol of optimism for the future and the sun imagery really works for Ponyboy. After all, sunrises can’t really be that different than sunsets for him.
hope ur okay- I feel like this is how Ponyboy will look back on the people he knew in Tulsa once he finally moves away. I also like how the song references a towhead blonde which is also similar to how Ponyboy describes Dally.
Renegades- I feel like this song really works for Johnny and Pony running away from Tulsa. Even though it’s a bit optimistic for the events in the book, I still feel like it also works for their friendship too.
Everybody Wants To Rule The World- I feel like Ponyboy would really dig the instrumentals of the song and the references to well, people wanting to rule the world works for the story in an odd way that I can’t quite explain. But the vibe of it just really works
Boy In The Bubble- I feel like the beginning of the song is really reminiscent of how Ponyboy and the rest of the gang will get jumped by Socs but in the end where it discusses the home life of the person who attacked the singer represents Ponyboy gaining an understanding of how things are rough all over Tulsa and that even Socs have problems
Uptown Girl- I feel like once Ponyboy starts liking girls (if he does even like girls because I’m not entirely convinced that boy is straight) he would mainly have a thing for Soc girls. The song is about a lower class boy wanting to get with an upper class girl which is what I can see for Ponyboy in the future.
Everybody Knows- The Greasers have the cards stacked against them and everybody knows this, especially Ponyboy.
Friends In Low Places- I was debating between this and Heathens but this won because it’s country (I feel like the gang would really like country music) and the friends in low places is an obvious reference to the gang. I also think that in a way it shows how Ponyboy is out of place in his classes because he’s a Greaser and there are a lot of Socs in them.
Winter’s Come and Gone- I love the outdoorsy vibe of the song and think that Pony would too. I also like the lyrics “so long now I’ve been out in the rain in snow” because I think it can work as a really interesting way of portraying the gangs struggles and how Ponyboy doesn’t feel like he entirely fits in.
teenage dream- Ponyboy really hates it when people refer to him as being a kid which is a sentiment that I think this song shares. I also think it has a slight desperation to be taken seriously which is something that I also think that Ponyboy relates to.
Youth- It only loosely relates but has lyrics like “if you’re still breathing your the lucky ones” which in a way works because it shows that even things are tough, as long as you’re still alive you’re pretty lucky. Because, as we see in the novel, Greasers tend to die young so those of them who still able to keep on living are pretty lucky.
Teenage Dirtbag- I feel like the title of song is probably a bit about how Ponyboy feels about himself. I also think that song relates a bit to teen who are bit more into counter culture/ may get into a bit more trouble which I think works really well with Ponyboy.
Friend of the Devil- From the title alone I think it works. Ponyboy is friends with a lot of troubled people, and some of them, like Dally, some people probably consider a bit devilish. The song as a whole may not perfectly work with Ponyboy but I feel like the vibe of it does
You’re On Your Own Kid- I feel like this is really a Ponyboy in twenty years looking back at his life/childhood kind of song. And also shows how at the end of the day, and even though the gang wants to help him, the only person who is truly looking out for him is himself. He’s not like the rest of the gang. He’s on his own.
Here Comes The Sun- The song has a really optimistic tone has promises of a better future. It also has a lot of sun imagery
Tomorrow Will Be Kinder: The song is hopeful for a future that is better than the present. I think that is the kind of sentiment that Ponyboy holds onto throughout life, especially during his childhood. I think if he doesn’t develop that kind of outlook he will probably be depressed for most of his life.
Some my analysis for this stuff is better than others and not all songs directly relate to Ponyboy, or even the gang/Greasers, but I think the vibe for each song works.

Please Come Home
Request: A lovely user wanted to see how Sam would handle a partner with PMDD, which is almost like PMS but a lot worse especially for those who have ADHD or other neurodivergent
Minors DNI
Warnings: Very emotional, angsty, fluffy
Three days
It’s been three whole days since Sam left with Dean to help with a case. I normally would go with them, but I decided to sit this one out and give myself a break as the recent jobs we had got me super exhausted.
However, the exhaustion was not just from the cases. My period also decided to show up, and normally I can ride it out the best I can, but having ADHD plus hormones running wild…it’s not a great mix to have.
The cramps I can handle. It’s the fact that Sam was gone that was getting to me.
I took one of his flannels he left behind in our shared room and would hold it as I fell asleep. It sounded dumb, but having this close to me was almost like Sam was here.
I couldn’t take it anymore after day three, though. I found myself waking up crying and every single little thing got to me. I tried to fix our AC unit but I kept dropping the screws. I wounded up crying for about 1 hour before I could finally pick myself back up.
I wanted Sam to come home, to wrap his arms around me and tell me that everything would be okay. It felt selfish to ask him to drop everything and come home, though. People’s lives were in danger and we were the only one who could help them.
I eventually swallowed my pride and decided to call Sam up. Maybe hearing his voice would make things better.
“Y/N?”
I tried to hold myself together as I didn’t want him to know I’ve been upset.
“Hey…baby…I just wanted to call and say hi,” I said.
“Well, hey to you too,” he said as I heard him smile, “What bought this on? Everything okay?”
“Yeah…I just miss you that’s all,” I said.
“I miss you, too, baby girl,” he said.
The moment those words came out of his mouth, the water works began as I started to cry. I couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“Baby?! You okay!?” he said in a panicked tone.
I didn’t know what came over me but I knew that there was no point in hiding it.
“Truth be told…no. I’m…I got my period shortly after you and Dean left, and it’s just been killing me. Every little thing gets me upset. I almost threw the toaster across the room because I burnt my toast…and I just wish you were here with me. I’m so lonely. I’m sorry…I didn’t…I know this job is important…”
“Hey hey, there’s not need to apologize,” he said, concern filling his voice, “Oh baby girl, I’m so sorry you’re going through this.”
All I could do was nod. It felt great getting it all out but I also felt guilty. “I’m not trying to guilt trip you…”
“Baby, deep breaths” he said, “Again, you have nothing to apologize for. In fact, I’m glad you told me this.”
There was a moment of silence before Sam told me to hold on a second. My heart was pounding a bit as I wondered what was going to happen next. Was he mad? Was Dean mad? So much anxiety ran through me as I waited for the next steps.
Finally, Sam picked the phone up. “You still there, sweetheart?”
“Yes,” I managed to say.
“Okay. I’m coming home right now. Garth is nearby anyways so he’s gonna help with the case.”
“Sam…no…”
“Y/N, it’s all fine. If it helps, Dean was the first to say that I should come home to you before I even asked. He also instructed me to bring you chocolate ice cream and to put my healthy eating habits aside for this.”
I smiled a little bit, feeling better knowing that Dean was on board. Still, the guilt lingered, but there wasn’t a whole lot I could do about that.
“Get some sleep, sweetheart. I’ll see you in a bit.”
_______________________
3 Hours Later
I felt a little dip in our bed as someone sat down. Opening my eyes, I saw Sam looking at me with a sympathetic smile on his face.
He’s home.
I jumped on him, wrapping my arms around him and burying my face into his neck, letting out little tears.
“You’re back.”
“I told you I would be back,” he said.
He wrapped his arms around me, stroking my hair and rocking me back and forth to help soothe me. He whispered in my ear things like “Shhh, it’s okay, baby girl. Let it out. I’m home. You’re safe.”
After I calmed down, we both laid down on the bed, my upper body still on him as he continued to massage my head while rubbing my back.
“Can I ask…what bought this on?” he asked.
I shrugged. “It’s…not easy to explain Sam. I think in all honesty, it was a mix of pure exhaustion, the pain, and so much more. Normally I can take care of myself just fine, but…I don’t know. I’m sorry…that I made you leave…I wanted you to finish…”
“And I wanted to leave the moment I heard you crying. You didn’t make me leave, sweetheart. I wanted to get back here…I just needed to know that you were safe and that I could be there for you.”
I just nodded, not knowing what else to say. I wanted to apologize again, but I knew Sam would just tell me to stop apologizing.
“What…did Dean look like when you told him?” I asked.
“He looked scared, honestly,” he said, “When I told him what was going on, he was relieved that it was nothing serious, but insisted that I go and help you before I could ask.”
“You mentioned that on the phone,” I said.
“I know. Now, let’s get some rest, okay?”
I didn’t want to rest. I wanted to stay awake, enjoying Sam’s company. My body needed the rest, though, so I drifted off, finally having a dreamless sleep in the arms of the man I love.

I'm Sorry, Sweetheart
Pairing: past Dean x Reader, Dean x Allie (OC), Benny x Reader Word count: 2,427 Warnings: Character deaths, a looooot of angst
Read on AO3
Part 6 of Unholy
Allie’s gifts came in a week later, and you’d put them all in a cute bag with tissue paper. Her baby shower had already happened, and you had not been in attendance. Because it happened before the pair of you were even acquaintances. You’d texted her that you had something for her, and invited her for dinner. She eagerly accepted.
That night, she left Dean with the kids and made her way to your house. Ethan was due in two weeks, and it was a good way to relax before caring for a newborn. “Hi!” Allie beamed when you opened the door. “I brought some mocktails.” She chuckled.
“That sounds amazing.” You told her as she stepped inside. “I made tacos. They’re just about ready.”
“They smell amazing.” She set down her purse, making herself at home.
Once dinner was served, the two of you made your way to the living room for your usual two episodes of Criminal Minds. “Before we eat, here.” You handed her the bag of goodies.
Taking it, she removed the tissue paper and pulled out the first item. A tiny pair of baby jeans. “So cute!” She gushed, reaching in. It didn’t occur to her until she reached the baby shoes what you’d done. “Oh, baby Reid clothes!” She teared up. “Ethan will look adorable! Thank you!” She reached over to hug you the best she could.
Smiling, you looked forward to seeing pictures. “You’re welcome. Ethan will have us all melting.” You said before you both got comfortable to watch your show and eat.
Finally, you were 5 months pregnant, and it was the day you’d find out what you were having. You got a text that morning that Allie was in labor, and you sent her all the well wishes. Benny planned to work until mid morning, and then would meet you for lunch, and then your appointment.
Come 11:30, however, Benny wasn’t there. Your appointment was in an hour, but you felt he was cutting it close. You tried to call him, but you got no answer. Which was extremely odd. Finally, you felt like you should call the shop. If you needed to leave, you wanted to let him know to meet you at your appointment.
“Winchester Auto, this is Garth, how can I help you?”
“Garth, it’s Y/N. Benny was supposed to pick me up half an hour ago. Is he still there?” You asked.
Garth made a noise. “No, he left 45 minutes ago.” He told you, sounding confused. “He reminded us he’d be out the rest of the day, but to call if we got too busy. Since Dean’s out John came in.” He explained. “Is he not answering his phone?”
You sighed. “No, it just keeps ringing. Thanks, Garth. I’ll be in with dinner later.”
“Can’t wait. We’re all excited.” It was a good day to Garth. Allie was having Ethan, and you were finding out what you were having.
After the pair of you said your goodbyes, you let out a small huff. You couldn’t figure out where your boyfriend was. He’d been so excited for today!
Finally, you had to leave. You would be late if you didn’t. Hopefully he’d meet you there.
Walking out of the doctor’s, you looked at the ultrasound and smiled. You found out you were having a little girl, and couldn’t stop picturing Benny with her. Pulling out your phone, you tried his number one more time. There was still no answer. Now you were getting really worried. Did something happen?
Sliding into your car, you let out a sigh. Maybe when you brought dinner to the shop one of the guys would have heard from him. You’d be upset because he missed this, and wasn’t answering your calls, but as long as he was okay! “Damn it.” You muttered, pulling out of the parking space to head home.
The entire afternoon, you kept checking your phone. You just kept hoping that Benny would call. Or text. Something! By the time you loaded dinner into the car, you were nearly panicked.
Cas jogged out to the car to help you carry things in. “Hey, Cas. Have you heard from Benny?” You asked, hopeful.
He shook his head. “No, I’m sorry.” He said sadly. “This isn’t like him, so we’re all worried. John is calling around to different hospitals, claiming he’s looking for his son.” Hearing that, you swallowed. “Come on.” He led you inside.
Once in the breakroom, your heart sank at the look on John’s face. “John?” You breathed.
He cleared his throat. “I’m sorry, sweetheart.” He told you. “I just got off the phone with the hospital. Benny was brought in with a gunshot wound this morning. He didn’t make it.” He watched you get held up by Cas, your knees buckling.
“He-” You felt like you’d be sick. “Someone shot him?!” Who the hell would shoot Benny? You’d never see him again. Benny would never know you were having a daughter. You’d never see him hold her.
Cas stayed by your side, helping you sit down. While he was in pain over losing a good friend, he couldn’t even fathom what you were feeling. You and Benny hadn’t been together long, but that didn’t mean anything. Time together did not dictate the pain someone felt when their significant other was ripped from them.
Garth came in, drinks in hand. “What’s going on? Why does it looked like someone just died?” He asked, shocked when you started sobbing.
“Benny was shot this morning.” John’s voice was soft, barely above a whisper. He knew that he’d have to tell Dean, and soon, but not right then. Not when he was welcoming Ethan.
“I-I need to go home.” You tried to stand, but your efforts were weak.
John got up. “I’ll take you home, sweetheart. One of the guys can follow in your car.” He offered.
All you could do was nod. “Wait. I know Benny will never know what I’m having, but I want to at least tell you three.” You sniffed. “I’m having a girl.” You told them.
Cas gave you a small smile. “He loved her already, I know that much.”
“I didn’t think I’d ever see him be a father, but he would have been a damn good one.” John spoke up.
You tensed a bit at that. “He was stepping up when he didn’t have to.” You noted. “That takes a good heart.” If he hadn’t, would he still be alive? Would he have been at work, safe?
John looked confused. “What’re you talking about, sweetheart?” He asked.
“Cas, I’m going to the restroom. Can you tell John? I can’t right now…” You didn’t trust yourself to be able to explain things properly.
Cas nodded. “Sure.” He agreed.
The three of them watched you go. They waited until they heard the ‘click’ of the bathroom door shutting. “Alright, what’s going on?” He asked, hands on his hips.
“You…might want to sit down.” Cas suggested. “I’m sure you gathered that Benny is not the father.” John nodded. “Y/N didn’t know Dean is married, and a couple weeks after she started, Dean asked her to join him for dinner. Well, they were having dates and such at the shop. She didn’t know he was married until she met Allie when she came in for lunch.” He gave him a much shorter version. “Y/N quit the same day. She only came back because she wasn’t getting interviews and needed a job. Her and Allie are friends now, though. Allie knows. Dean came clean, and I guess her and Y/N had a talk, too.”
John groaned, shaking his head. “Explains why Dean’s been off lately.” He sighed. “Damn it, Dean.” He was extremely disappointed in his son.
You came back in, and you were worried about how John would react to you now.
“So, looks like we’re getting another granddaughter.” He gave you a small smile. When you started crying again, he came over to hug you. “Come on, let’s get you home. I’ll talk to Mary. She’ll come in for you tomorrow. Take the day off.”
You shook your head. “I can’t. I have bills.” You countered. “And the last thing I need is to sit at home with my thoughts. Work will be a good distraction.” You sniffed. With that, you allowed yourself to be led from the shop. “Oh, here’s my keys.” You turned to Cas, who was following.
That night, you put your phone on silent. Something you didn’t really do a lot, but you needed the rest. You couldn’t risk waking up to a text or anything. Your mother seemed to be on the mend, so you knew she would want you to get some sleep. She was so excited to be a grandmother.
You’d cried yourself to sleep, and slept very soundly. Well, as soundly as you could 5 months pregnant. When you woke up the next morning, you just laid there for a few minutes. You had to get up and get ready for work, but getting your body to actually move was something else entirely.
Finally sitting up, you unplugged your phone and paused. When you screen lit up, you had a ton of missed calls from Dean. And a single text message. Looking at all the times of the calls, and then the text, you realized that when he didn’t get through, he just texted you. Opening it, your heart sank. Allie didn’t make it through having Ethan.
Instantly, you were far more awake. You hit call, heart hammering in your chest. What the fuck was going on in your friend group?!
“Y/N.” Dean answered, sounding nothing like himself.
“I’m so sorry, Dean. I put my phone on silent to get some sleep last night.” You told him. Did he know about Benny?! “What happened? She seemed so healthy.”
“I don’t even know, to be honest. The doctor told me, but I didn’t hear anything he said. It felt like my world just blew up.” He let out a breath.
Your heart broke for him. “Do you need anything? Can I do anything?” Of course, you didn’t know what he could possibly need from you. You couldn’t bring Allie back!
There was a moment before he spoke. “No, but I wanted to tell you myself. I know you guys were getting close. She had been talking about the outfit you got Ethan when we got to the hospital yesterday.”
“Let me know when you go home. I’ll bring you something to eat, okay?”
“Sure. I think we’re staying at my parents for a few days. I think it’ll help the kids.” That was his focus. “Speaking of kids, as odd of a question as this is now…I need good news. What’re we having?”
You had a small smile on your face. “We’re having a little girl.” You told him softly.
“Well, a little girl gives me something to look forward to.” He sounded so broken.
After you got off the phone with Dean, you didn’t know how to feel. A numbness washed over you. Could so much pain and grief make you go numb? Swallowing, you got up and went through the motions of getting ready for the day. You’d come to town worried about losing your mother. Instead you lost a boyfriend and a friend.
Blinking, you stared at the shop. You’d managed to get yourself to work on autopilot. As you slipped out of your car, you saw John’s truck. Which made sense. You doubted you’d be seeing Dean any time soon. Walking in, you made your way straight to the breakroom to put your lunch away and put down your purse. Cas, Garth, and John were sitting quietly drinking their coffee.
“Morning, sweetheart.” John greeted you. It was clear the poor man did not get much sleep the night before. “Today I’ll need you to call anyone who has appointments this weekend to reschedule. We’ll be closed Saturday and Sunday. Benny’s funeral is Saturday, Allie’s is Sunday.” He told you.
“Okay.” You said softly, nodding. It was Tuesday, so hopefully you didn’t get grumpy customers. You didn’t think you could handle that.
Saturday came around far too quickly. It was a wet and gloomy day, which you felt was fitting. Cas was picking you up, which you appreciated a great deal. You didn’t trust yourself to drive. It turned out that Benny was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. He had stopped at a gas station to get you flowers, and walked into a robbery. Who robbed a place during the day?! You assumed that’s what the robber was thinking- it would take people off guard. While part of you was thankful it wasn’t someone who just wanted Benny dead, it was still so senseless.
No one said much of anything as you stood around the hole in the ground. Dean was across from you with his parents and the kids. John held who you guessed was Layla, Mary had Ethan, and Dean held the hands of his two oldest. He looked like a shell of himself.
Slowly, people left as the funeral was over, but you couldn’t move. Finally, it was just you and Cas. “Come on.” He said gently. “Let’s go get something to eat.” He just didn’t want to bring you home and leave you alone.
Finally, you gave him a sad smile and nodded. “Okay.” You agreed.
The next day, the funeral was a tad bigger. There were people you didn’t know, so you stuck to those you did. The weather was still dreary, and you idly wondered if the universe knew that your group had dealt with too much sadness for sunshine. “Are you Y/N?” Came a voice you didn’t recognize.
“I am.” You replied.
Without warning, her hand met your face. “How dare you show up to Allie’s funeral? After what you did.” She seethed.
Your eyes watered as you had your hand on your cheek. Swallowing, you turned and walked away. You didn’t even know who the hell that was, but it clearly didn’t matter that Allie had been your friend. Garth went after you. “That’s Holland. She was Allie’s best friend. I’m surprised that she did that. Allie liked you.”
You rubbed your cheek. “I can’t blame her for slapping me.” You sighed. “She probably told Allie to hate me, anyway. It’s her job as Allie’s bff, ya know?”
“Doesn’t make it right.” He countered.

Comfort In Family
Summary - Part 47 in the Comfort series
Pairing - Dean Winchester x Reader, Reader x Sam (platonic), Reader x Bobby (father-figure), Andre (OG Character) x Reader (best friends), Garth x Bess
Series Masterlist | Masterlist
A/N: In case I haven’t been saying it enough lately, I just wanted to let you guys know how much I appreciate you all: all your likes, comments, reblogs and even if you’re a silent supporter I appreciate you all the same. You guys constantly remind me why I love writing so much. So, thank you so much! I hope you enjoy this week’s chapter.
Despite setting up a bedroom of her own next door and an air mattress on the floor, Destiny ends up in bed with you and Dean by morning, every day that week. You’re loving it, but Dean’s really missing his privacy.
As you lay in bed waiting for someone else to wake up you let your thoughts run. Despite your whole conversation in the park, nothing has really changed since you came home. To his credit, Dean hadn’t been on a hunt but you can tell he’s struggling. He’s never done the domestic thing for this long before and with a child cock-blocking him too, he’s had no way to destress. Even sleeping you can see the tension in his shoulders. The sentiment was great, and you still want to get out, but you don’t know how much longer he will last. He needs an outlet. Sometimes that would be the car, but she’s in tip top shape.
Unable to lay there stewing in your own depressive thoughts any longer you carefully get up, wrap a dressing gown around yourself and pad out to the kitchen. As you enter the room you notice the oversized Winchester already sitting at the table with a coffee and his laptop.
“So get this,” he says as soon as he notices you.
“Sam…” you pour yourself a mug of coffee and sit opposite him. “If you’re gonna offer a case, just don’t.”
He nods and shuts his laptop. “You okay?”
You shake your head. “The prospect of getting out seemed good when he said it, but now that we’re home it feels like a fantasy.”
“You’ve only been back a week. Give it time. Destiny hasn’t even settled yet.”
You take a sip of your coffee and then say, “you should tell Dean about the case. He needs to get out and do something. I’ll stay here with Destiny.”
“Are you sure?”
You nod. “I’m holding out hope that we’ll get out. I’ve been looking for places, but in the meantime, Dean needs a few days away with his brother to let off steam. He loves me and he’s great with Destiny, but it’s a lot for him. You just make sure he comes back in one piece, alright?”
Sam nods. “Always.”
“As for you, that goes without saying. Dean would never let anything happen to you.”
“Yeah, but he also has a wife and daughter to consider now.”
“Even so, if it came down to a choice between saving you and sacrificing himself he’ll always make the same choice. That’s who he is. He’s loyal to a fault, Sam. I love him for it, I do. It just scares me is all. I don’t want to lose either of you, you know that.”
“But you’re in love with him.”
You nod.
“He’s not the only loyal one,” Sam says before standing up and taking his laptop to his room to start to pack. Leaving you alone once again. You sit there in the silence for a while, while you finish your coffee and then get up to prepare breakfast for your family. You get a heart out to warm a little and then you make pancakes and bacon for your husband. If he’s going to go out on a hunt he needs a decent breakfast first.
Once everything is ready and served you go back into the bedroom. You find Destiny sitting up looking sad so you sit down beside her and wrap her up in your arms.
“You wanna have a girls day today? We can go out and get some more stuff for your room and maybe some new clothes?”
She nods. You look over as you feel Dean stir.
“Morning ladies,” he says sleepily.
“Morning, handsome,” you say. “Breakfast’s ready. Also, Sam’s looking for you.”
“I’m finally able to sleep in peacefully and you people insist on getting up early.”
“It’s almost 10 o’clock.”
“Really?” He questions.
“Yep. Hurry up, your bacon will be greasy and cold.” Not thinking, you slap his ass and say, “move your ass, Winchester.”
Almost unbelievably, Destiny apes your actions, slapping his ass and copying, “yeah, move your ass, Winchester.”
You gasp and put your hand over your mouth to muffle your laughter. Dean sits up and looks directly at Destiny. You bite your lip, scared of his reaction.
“Only she gets to slap my ass,” he says firmly pointing at you.
She instantly tears up and apologises, “sorry, Dean. I didn’t mean…”
“Come on, don’t cry,” he says softly. “Come here.” He opens his arms up for her but she shakes her head and stays still.
She then looks between you both teary-eyed before getting up and scurrying out of the room. You look pointedly at Dean.
“Come on, it was just a bit of fun. She was finally warming up and starting to feel comfortable enough to have fun.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset her. I just…boundaries, Y/N.”
“I’ll go talk to her. Just get up, get dressed, eat and then talk to Sam.” You stand up and leave in search of Destiny. Luckily she only went into the room next door. You find her cowering and crying under her bed. You sit down on the floor beside the bed and keep her company, not pushing her to talk, just letting her know you’re there and that she’s not alone.
Eventually she says, “Dean doesn’t like me. I want him to like me. I don’t want him to hurt me like my dad. I want to be good. Why doesn’t he like me?”
You sigh, unsure how to answer any of her questions or alleviate her anxiety.
“I can go live with Gertie…” she says sadly.
“Only if you want to,” you say. “But you do have a home here. I want you here, so does Dean. He does like you, he just is having trouble adjusting. I promise he won’t hurt you, not physically anyway. He just needs to realise he can do this his way, he doesn’t need to be like his own dad.”
“What was his dad like?” She asks as she crawls out from under the bed to sit in your lap. You rub her back gently.
“He, John Winchester, was a man with a big heart, like Dean. But he lost his wife, Dean’s mother, and then he struggled to handle it well. So he never gave the boys the childhood they deserved. He trained them to hunt. He did raise them to be good men too, but they just missed out on that empathy and parental love.”
“So, now Dean struggles a little with showing it. But he lives deeper than many. His heart is massive. You just have to look a little harder to see it sometimes. But he’s working on it.”
You sit there cuddling her into your arms. Little do you know Dean has been standing outside the fort the whole time listening. Your ability to comfort her while also making him fall deeper in love with you never ceases to amaze him. He knocks quietly and then comes in. He sits on the edge of the bed just beside where you’re sitting and places a hand on your shoulder. You look up at him and smile.
“I’m sorry, Dee. I was a little harsh back there. Y/N did it so you thought it was okay. And mostly that’s a fine way to judge, but there’s some things that she can do that you shouldn’t. But you couldn’t have known that either, so I shouldn’t have been so harsh about it.” You help her crawl into his lap. He smiles at her as he wraps his arms around her. “Honestly, it was pretty funny. But we all have boundaries.” She nods her head and cuddles into his chest. “I’m sorry I scared you.”
She looks up at him with sad eyes. “Dean? Do you like me?”
“Of course. It’s a big adjustment is all. From the time I was your age my dad told me about other creatures out there. Dangerous ones. He included vampires, werewolves and all that and told me they couldn’t be good. But now I know better. But it’s still hard to believe is all. But you, you’re good Dee, and I know you can continue to be with the right support and self control, which we’re gonna help you with.”
She tears up again, but this time they’re happy tears. “I’m sorry about your dad,” she says.
“It’s alright. He did his best. He just didn’t have a woman as amazing as Y/N here to keep him on track after my mom died. We’re gonna get through all this as a family, okay? It’s a long road, but it’s worth it,” he says as he glances between you and Destiny. You nod and smile.

Chapter One: Sunlight (Donna's POV)
Roy arranged flowers in my hair for a picture once. He leaned over me, chuckling as he worked. His wheezy laugh was grating to most, but it made me smile. Actually, it made me laugh. “Roy, please don’t make a d—.”
“Lay still, you’re gonna mess it up… And stop breathing on me. It tickles,” Roy warned me as he wheeze-laughed. And no, it wasn’t asthma. It was more—. It was a snicker. A raspy snicker. He smelled great. It was probably the best he ever smelled since I knew him. Notes of something baked and sweet complemented by a smoky wood. I pulled his shirt to my nose, and he leaned backward on his knees. Smiling. His mouth formed cute parenthetical folds on freckled canvas. Roy was sunlight.
“Roy, we’ve been here an hour—.”
“I’m almost done. Trust the process,” Roy whispered. His voice seemed more serious at that point. “Donna, you said you already set your Polaroid—?”
“You’re done?” I asked. He nodded and stood over me with his camera. “How do I look?”
“Like a goddess,” Roy whispered, and I felt my cheeks redden as I shut my eyes. Roy snapped three pictures before kneeling beside me and removing the flowers. “Do you have a brush?”
I laughed and shook the rest of the flowers out of my hair as I sat up. “Roy, you’re stalling. Let me see—.” He held them to his chest, protecting them from me. “What? What is it?”
“Donna, if you don’t like them, would it be weird if I kept them anyway?” Roy asked. I gently pried the pictures from his hands, and the flowers spelled out I-L-Y in my hair. I looked at him, and he rubbed the back of his neck.
I laid my head on his shoulder. I was speechless, and he didn’t expect anything, but I wish I said something that day in the field. Roy was like that. He loved and never expected to be loved back. That’s what made him special to me. I could never say what I wanted to, but he didn’t force me to try. Roy pressed kisses to the side of my face and my neck. “Roy,” I whispered.
“You’ve gotta go away… I know you do, but I want you to know I’ll wait for you if you want me to,” Roy whispered.
It felt selfish to make him wait for me, but I couldn’t look at him and tell him to go. I couldn’t speak. I wish I could’ve said something, but my throat ached. I kissed him, and I think he knew. “Let me keep one picture,” Roy whispered. I nodded, and Roy returned to my cheeks and neck. I craned into his touch but could feel his pain through my flesh. It hurt, but I needed him close. I pulled him in by his shirt, and he shook his head. “Wait… Wait, I’m shaking.” Roy pulled away from me, and I turned to him. I reached to touch his arm, and he stood up. “Let me take you home before I say something dumb—.”
“You can say whatever you want, Roy. I won’t get mad,” I whispered as he took my hand and helped me stand. “Roy? Please?”
“I want ya to go. I do. Don’t get me wrong, but I don’t wanna—. I wanna—. Come on, let me take you home,” Roy sighed. He seemed irritated. Not with me, but the temperature between us changed. “You’ve got packing to do, Princess.”
His smile disappeared, and I held onto his hand, desperately squeezing for the warmth and safety it offered only moments ago. I held onto him like a child holding onto a teddy bear. “Roy, are you mad at me?” I asked.
“No, I could never—. I’m a little mixed up right now, but I’ll be okay. This is your big moment, Donna, and I’ve got a present for you back at your place,” Roy whispered, “I’m sorry… I’m gonna miss you a ton. I guess-. It didn’t feel real until today.”
He opened the door for me, and we stared at each other for a while. I wanted him to ask me to stay. I know that sounds cliche, but I hoped he would at least try. Or hell—. I don’t know. I wish he would’ve asked to go with me. We drove to my place in silence, and when I got to the door, I wanted to say everything I’d held inside—. “Surprise!” they yelled. I backed into Roy, and he offered a gentle push toward our friends.
Dick punched Roy’s shoulder. “Hey, chump, what took you so long?” Dick half-joked. Roy forced a smile.
“I had to take a quick detour to spend time with my favorite girl,” Roy replied as he slipped into the crowd. Everyone seemed so happy for me, but I couldn’t help but feel lonely.
The night droned on, and I slipped into my bedroom for a break before running into Roy. He sat on my bed with a gift box on his lap. “Roy—.”
“I know you don’t like people in your room, but I’m—. I thought you’d make an exception this one time,” Roy smiled as he gave me the box. I carefully unwrapped my gift and smiled. A plush lamb in a replica of my first drama class costume. I held it close to my chest. “I know we’re a little old for that stuff, but I—.”
I embraced him, and then there was silence. Then there was longing. Then there were lips… My lips against his warm, peach-fuzzy cheeks. Then there were lips. His lips against mine. And his scent was sweet and smoky, luring me in. I kissed his neck, and he laughed his wheezy laugh. “Donna, the party—.”
“Will you stay until after they’re gone?” I interrupted. He lifted my chin with his knuckle.
“Well, I’ve got a lot of free time with Ollie gone, so I don’t mind waiting around tonight,” Roy grinned. We partied that night, and after everyone left, Roy curled up in my bed and reached for me.
We were quiet. It was so quiet it scared us when the bed made a noise… or Roy bumped into the wall. He was gentle. “This is goodbye, isn’t it?” Roy whispered afterward. I frowned. “Maybe one day it’ll be hello again… But we’ll always be friends, right?”
“Nothing will change that,” I replied. Roy was sunlight. Far too bright to look at. Hot to the touch. He cried that night. He waited until he thought I was asleep, but I heard him. I didn’t speak because I didn’t want to hurt his pride. Still, I wish he would’ve come with me. I wondered if we would’ve stayed together if he’d simply asked to come along. I would’ve said yes. I would’ve done anything to make space for him there.

spn s12 spoilers
s12 ep1(keep calm and carry on)
33 years. Sam was 21 and Dean was 25 when all this started, time passed so quickly. toni might be right. it would be a good thing. but some monsters deserve to live like garth or benny(he is dead but he was a good vampire). so i dont know. wow cas is violent. they hit baby. dean will kill them. There's a lot going on but Dean and Cas pushing the car seemed funny to me, idk.
s12 ep2(mamma mia)
sam, he is telling everything to toni. mary is right to be afraid. yes everything happened beacause she made a deal with the yellow-eyed demon but if she wouldnt have done that then sam and dean wouldnt have been alive. so i am not mad at her not so much at least. what does lucifer want? dean and pie one of my favorite duos. crowley ran. i hope winchesters can be happy i always wish this but its usually dont happen so…
s12 ep3(the foundry)
family hunting trip. i love winchesters. Dean got his taste in music and food from Mary. agent beyonce and agent jay z:) . an angel and a demon i love them. okay i feel sorry for mary but she just left them. i hope she'd stay dead, then all of them would be happy. Dean and Sam had gotten over it. Mary was happy in heaven. Now Mary misses her family in heaven, so she leaves Dean and Sam heartbroken. Maybe they would be happier if Darkness brought Bobby back. Or Charlie (I still haven't gotten over his death, I'm still in denial).
s12 ep4(american nightmare)
the early seasons. i miss it. things were more simple. winchesters are gods(chucks) besties, they are not lying about that. seeing dean smile makes me feel good. ketch killed magda.
s12 ep5(the one you've been waiting for)
dean didnt eat the pie:(. is it really about mary? The scene with the ship was hilarious. Harry Potter! dean killed hitler. it is awesome. he is so happy he get to do that. did i mention dean killed hitler:)!
s12 ep6(celebrating the life of asa fox)
i love jody and her relationship with the boys. and yes dean killed hitler:) . winchesters are famous and i like it. billie is annoying. but she has a point. rules must be followed and winchesters always break the rules. most of the times its good but still they break rules. asa seemed like a nice guy and a good hunter. twins are cool. i hope mary will come back home fast. i dont know how much dean can wait.
s12 ep7(rock never dies)
i love cas and crowley. theyre so funny. Cas is tired of being the babysitter. the water scene might be the first spn video ive seen before watching the Show. i totally forgot about it but seein it now is different now i know dean i know sam and their relationship. and this makes perfect sense now. i love them. Maybe Cas couldn't follow, but couldn't Crowley follow his manager or the other band member and find the concert? crowley's with cas till the end i guess(for now at least). cas' famous word:) . well lucifer is kinda right, Chuck left again. he couldve taken lucifer with him or at least do something about him.
s12 ep8(lotus)
agents(in unision:)). an angel and a demon beat the two best hunters in the World. its amazing, their reactions everything. when sam asked anything missing i didnt realized the cross i said his soul because he want smiling and i knew it wouldnt make sense but i said it anyways because thet was all i could think of. well i just saw something about Charlie on my phone. I still haven't gotten over her death. I don't think I'll ever get over it. this Show is supernatural we saw characters' deaths but they returned most of the times. even bobby he is dead but we still see him some of the episodes. Why do we never see Charlie, they never even mention her. she didn't deserve such an end. I thought we might see her at least in 1 or 2 episodes. But she died, unexpectedly, and I still can't believe she is dead. I've said this many times, but when I watch new episodes, I think of her every now and then and I still can't make sense of her death. I miss seeing Mark Pellegrino. he is great as lucifer others are good too but I want to see him more. rowena is crazy at first i didnt like her much but i started to like her this season. What does the table with the color map in the Men of Letters bunker show? like how much of a monster there are? If anyone knows, I would be glad if they could tell me. I've been wondering for a while but I couldn't find it. I tried to read the writings on it, but it didn't work. i think i know WHO the nephilim is. i saw spoilers again and i was wondering about that character. i am so excited. I'm not sure if we will see that character in this season, but I think the chracter will be in the 13th season. i thought ketch was crowley:(. still he saved them so no problem for now at least. i forgot about lucifer and i thought dean asked because of cas. If it's going to bring the angel out, they would make sure cas' not near it. i love the team so much. they are amazing together. Rowena and Crowley are starting to get along well. In previous seasons, I was always afraid that the Winchesters would get into trouble with the law. This fear of mine had diminished considerably. But now I think they're in even bigger trouble. kelly is a mother but the baby is lucifers child. If they raise the child well, I think good things can happen(i hope). an angel, a witch, the king of hell, The two best hunters in the World they are amazing. the best team up
s12 ep9(first blood)
i dont know what i expected but im disappointed that crowley didnt help cas. Mary gets angry at Cas, but she wasn't there. The boys didn't even ask for help because she was gone. she left. 6 weeks! whatever they will get out idk how or when but they will. winchesters… i love them so much. How did they deceive the men? They didn't really defeat Lucifer, did they? He'll come back again, he can't be gone. I don't trust the men of letters either, but I really hope they can help. The guys don't stand a chance against Dean and Sam. cas!!!! What he did was very reckless. I'm glad the Winchesters aren't dead, but they've done things to disrupt the order of the universe too many times. What Billie said scares me. Billie is dead, the others are alive, this is a good thing, but what they will encounter next will be worse. and that is scary. The Winchesters took an angel and added him to the family and changed him, and it was great to watch this change, but it's not for the better, cas will die i know it but i dont want to see it. i knew ketch would kill them. mary! what The British Men of Letters saying is a good thing but like i said some monsters are not monsters. they deserve to live. and although their methods are effective, they are a bit extreme.
s12 ep10(lily sunder has some regrets)
Okay, Cas did something careless, but Dean needs to let it go and look at other things. Sam is right Cas saved all of them. cas is talking back to dean now, this scene is so funny. cas had a woman vessel! im glad he changed he no longer blindly sticking to rules. he is in team free will and this team always saves the World and i love them.
s12 ep11(regarding dean)
this ep is funny but is kinda sad. i have mixed feelings. i watched some clips of this ep. and ive been waiting to see it. jensen is amazing. hunting is the best job?! dean forget about his traumas. he is so happy full of life. It will be nice when Dean remembers everything, but I will be sad. Now he has forgotten the bad things and is in a happy state. But when those memories come, he will be sad again. Dean's eyes sparkle. deans love for scooby is precious. i didnt think this ep would be this sad. dean is frgetting himself and everything hes been through and the people he loved… its too much. how could dean aim that good and remember how to use a gun? i think he is born to be a hunter. when dean and rowena tricked sam sam's face told everything. he amost lost his brother again. thanks to rowena dean is back. and dean i love you.
s12 ep12(stuck in the middle (with you))
yes everything is fine. Wally is definitely not dead. Cas is not injured. right everything is allright. What kind of demon is this? He's not really azazel, is he? mary is working wth bmol its okay but she is hiding it from the boys that cant be good for any of them. well, at least its not azazel. others are bad too but still im glad its not him. so, thats how crowley became the king. crowley loves them. and i love him. he is trying to save them and they dont even know that. this ep was kinda like memento(nolan movie). and i think this is so cool. yes cas you are a family and this family wouldnt leave a member behind. dont say goodbye you aer gonna be allright. the trio, they all changed and their character development their stories are amazing and im glad i witnessed their stories, im glad i know them. theyll be a part of me forever. Mary, what was so important that you would let everyone die? crowley saved cas:) . mary stiil didnt mentioned the item to the boys. did she say cas is one of his boys? the item is the colt!! lucifer!!!!! i knew it was him from his voice but i wasnt sure.
s12 ep13(family feud)
I don't like that she works behind boys' backs. i missed seeing Mark Pellegrino. he is brilliant. i think rowena loves gavin. crowley loved his son. it was for revenge. i didnt see that coming. but crowley and rowena are even now. i hate to see the boys sad. mary shouldnt break their hearts.
s12 ep14(the raid)
-you are not a child -i never was. i knew this scene was coming and thats why i couldnt love mary. okay she needs time but the boys need their mother she was gone their whole life now she is back and she is rarely with them. things are never easy on this Show. i wish mary didnt returnn. that way she couldve been happy in heaven and the boys would be okay without her because they accepted her death they were never good there is always something but the two of them and maybe cas they would be okay, together. i hate seeing them hurt. and this time the one whose hurting them is their mother and this is worse. and now she is not even mom she is mary. I wish Bobby had come instead of Mary. If there is no bullet, why do you take out the colt? To drive a wedge between Sam and Mary even further? Sam, are you going to lie to Dean too? brits are doing some good things, i dont know what to think of them yet so I'm with dean(as always). When Sam said he was choosing a side, I thought he was choosing Dean, now does that mean he's choosing Mary?
s12 ep15(somewhere between heaven and hell)
and sam is lying to dean, great. Cas has gotten better at lying, but he still keeps his badge upside down. I wish they'd worn glasses to see the hellhound, just in case. After all, the girl also told the sheriff that the dog was coming towards her. im scared for crowley i dont think this will end good for him. i sometimes forget crowley is evil. what he did to lucifer was just, wow, i never see it coming neither did lucifer. dean hates bmol beacuse they tortured sam they hurt him not dean. he probably would be okay if they hurt him but they hurt his baby brother. and now his brother and his mom lied to him. He would find out eventually. Do they think that Dean wouldn't understand if they said it from the beginning? see, he is okay with it, im just sad thathis family lied to him, they didnt trust him to make the right choice.
s12 ep16(ladies drink free)
hogwarts! well then i want in. that wasnt wise. i hope they wont do anything to garth. i love dean. i love how he is happy for eve little things. i love seeing him happy even for a little moment. i love the referances. i kinda like claire but she lies most of the times, to jody to dean and sam. i love how dean acts like claire is his sister and protecting her. and, this reminds me Charlie. why did she die. she couldve lived, and we coldve seen her time to time like claire i miss Charlie. i dont think i could get over her death. dean is right(as always). they gave mick a second chance but i dont think it will work. They will finally learn about the things Ketch did. But this is not about Mick, he is just following orders. I think we saw today that he can actually be a good person. its not ketch'S fault either, he is just following orders too.
s12 ep17(the british invasion)
everyone says the nephilim is an abomination. but i think if they raise him well he could be a good guy, 'cause why not. Genes don't define who you are, of course they do, but I think upbringing will have a bigger impact. And I hope so because he's just a baby right now. I was starting to like mick. and the colt is back where it belongs. im not even worried. winchesters will be fine but im not sure about the others
s12 ep18(the memory remains)
come on cas. you have to come back. satyr. saving people hunting things the family business, dean's face wen he realised that was priceless. you are legends dean. normal people wont know you but the people you saved the hunters they will remember you. i would remember you. i hope boys will realise the device soon. things wont work out with the brits thats for sure.
s12 ep19(the future)
cas, finally. i love team free will. grace extractioni its brilliant. wow. yes, they always find a way. and cas is gone. cas stole the colt. cas team free will is all you need. you are saving the boys thats such a winchester thing to do. you are a winchester. but dean will be mad. and sam will be sad. kelly was right. im glad cas changed his mind. of course, im sad that he keft the boys but hell return.
s12 ep20(twigs & twine & tasha banes)
dads on a hunting trip and he hasnt been home in a few days. they did it again. they have mary and another mary! i would say a clone but is she a shapeshifter or something? mary doesnt know. She could have escaped, but she made a reckless move and was caught. i love the way dean holds the wine glass. mary fought good i loved the twins. i think we will see them again someday nad it wont be good. bevell is back, i hope sam will kill her.
s12 ep21(there's something about mary)
Eileen died?! i thought ketch would get her. crowley isnt dead. he is a rat, right? i think crowley will save dean and sam. because he needs help with lucifer.
s12 ep22(who we are)
they are geniuses(lunatic geniuses) and i love them. jody is a good mother to the girls ad the boys. i love her. hope she wont die. i hate you? dean couldnt have said that. why would he saiy that? dean is hurt. but he isnt saying waht happened to him he is just talking what happened to his brother. he did everything to keep him safe but he failed, so many times. he blames his mother yes but i think he blames himself more. he was never a child he tried to give his baby brother everything but how could he, he was just a little boy whos lost his mother and his father was just seeking revenge. he did best as he can. yes mary is back. they killed humans and i think they are ok with that. i get it its kill or be killed and they chose themselves. but idk i thought they would hesitate a little bit. so, what does lucifer wants? he was cool with his father, now he created something and he wants it then what? he wants to rule the World? the family hug, finally. this is who winchesters are. they try to make World a better place for the other in doing so they hurt the family, but in the end they always forgive each other and then turn back to the beginning because its a cycle. and im not complaining, they save the World always.
s12 ep23(all along the watchtower)
i missed carry on. They haven't put it at the beginning of the episode for a long time. i will give my life for your son, i hope you wont need to do that cas. crowley is not a cockroach, he is a rat. is rowena really dead? i dont believe it. she cant be dead. kelly wouldve been a great mom. i mostly like crowley he is strange but he mostly helps the winchesters so. i love cas i love his character development he is amazing. hi bobby! he is back once again. i missed bobby. i hope we can see our bobby again. i loved the DC referances. Did Lucifer really think the Winchesters had escaped? crowley! cas! why did crowley did that? he wouldnt kill himself? well old crowley wouldnt but like everyone winchesters changed him too. and cas he has changed by the winchesters too. but this Show is supernatural how can someone stay dead. how can we be sure they are rally dead. right now they look like they wont come back but in this Show everything is possible. and Mary was taken from her boys, again. she might still be alive. im 99% sure kelly is dead(after all this is supernatural). dean and sam lost everyone they cared about again. jack came. i hope winchesters will raise him. and thats all for this season. last 3 seasons. and im still not ready to say goodbye i dont think i ever will be.

Okay, since @bluestockingbaby expressed interest from an earlier note, here's a personal story involving, but not centered on, Garth Brooks. It's long and convoluted, so I'll put it below the cut. Names changed, yadda yadda.
So, spring of my sophomore year of college, some friends and I decided to go get food at 1AM. This limited our choices, because we went to school in the middle of nowhere (having grown up there), and there were precisely two places in the entire county open after midnight. So Dave and I piled into Jim's car and headed out to Hardee's (AKA Carl's Jr. for the rest of the country), which served breakfast after midnight.
Now step one of this is to get on the main road through the tiny town in which our college sat, follow said road for about nine miles, and that put you right in the center of my hometown where the restaurant was. It's the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, and we're the only people on the road.
We get cut off.
Not three minutes into the drive, someone in a pickup jumps out ahead of us from a side street, close enough that Jim has to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting him. Mildly annoyed at this, especially given that the road was wide open otherwise, Jim lightly taps his horn in a "c'mon, man" gesture. He doesn't lay it in, hit it multiple times or anything. Just a quick beep. A minute later, the guy pulls off the road, waits for us to pass, and pulls back on behind us. From there, he begins maintaining about two car lengths of distance from us. We speed up, he speeds up. We slow down, he slows down. We come to the conclusion that he's now following us. Odds are decent he was heading the way we were anyway; I mean, there's one main road, with maybe two major spots to turn off for most of the drive. We're three big dudes in a car, but anyone who might decide to follow a stranger on the road in the middle of the night is probably more than we want to handle. So, we decide on a test. There's an all-night gas station right as you get into town where we're heading. Plenty of light, cameras, etc. We'll pull in there, circle around to the rear pumps, and if he pulls in after, we'll zip out the other exit and head in another direction.
We pull off, he pulls off behind us. By the time he pulls around back, we're out the other side and headed back the way we came. Okay, late-night biscuits are out, but the other place that's open is on the previous turn, and we can head there. It's a Waffle House in all but name. Same shape, same general menu, same atmosphere. It's a late-night diner where the late shift is run by an ancient German immigrant who was the type to bounce drunks without help and give free drinks to her favorites. It was a Friday, so there were good odds they'd be busy, and they were also across the street from the State Police Depot (Fun fact; a few years prior the police station had moved across town. The restaurant, which had been next door, moved with it to help reduce response times.). It was the kind of place that had armed security on the weekend, but the food was good.
On our way to the restaurant, I set forth an idea. Let us not go to this place; nay, let us go to The Pancake House.
The Pancake House was a nigh-legendary 24-hour restaurant about a 45-minute interstate drive away. It had a statue of a large Japanese cowboy outside. I'm certain that the cowboy was not originally intended to be Japanese, but the person who painted the eight-foot waving behemoth was having none of it. "This cowboy is from Japan," he must have said, "as all giant and powerful cowboys should be."
Jim protested; he didn't have the gas to make the trip and travel home that weekend; I, flush with scholarship money, said I would supply the needed cash. With that, the other two agreed, and we turned away from the diner an onto the nearby interstate, headed North.
Now, I will preface this part of the discussion with the note that companion Dave is a lying liar who lies. Mostly, this was the bullshitting type of lie, making fantastical stories and such to puff himself up. You could hear anything out of his mouth, but given all our backgrounds, we could gauge the odds of truth pretty well.
Almost immediately upon merging onto the interstate, Dave had to go to the bathroom. Being the middle of nowhere, there aren't exactly a lot of exits to pull over and find a place. The closest exit is about fifteen miles away, one of those restaurant/truck stop/state rest stop areas you find where there's nothing else. He whines and whines until we get there. It's deserted with the exception of a large bus at the end of the lot.
Dave goes in and does his business. When he comes out, he says, "Guys, I think I just took a piss next to Garth Brooks." Knowing Dave, we call bullshit. He expounds, "No, seriously! I go in the bathroom, and there's two guys standing on either side of a closed stall door. Now I figure [homophobic supposition redacted], so I'm trying to do my business and get the hell out. That's when "Friends in Low Places" comes on over the muzak, and the dude in the stall laughs in the same voice."
We continue to express doubt as Jim starts the car back up and begins pulling out. At that point a lone figure in a t-shirt and sweatpants jogs from the building, across the lot, and climbs onto the bus.
It was Garth Motherfuckin' Brooks. I don't know if the toilet on his tour bus was busted, or if he just wanted to stretch his legs, or what, but he was in a truck stop on the highway in the middle of the night. The next day we checked his tour schedule; where he was the night before and would be the night after was a straight line through where we were. Dave earned some credibility with that one.
So we continue our trek for pancakes, because the night was far from over. We arrive in the shadow of the Japanese Cowboy and go in to be seated. This is long enough ago that we land in the smoking section, because Dave and Jim both had the habit. While we're waiting on our food, Dave locks eyes with a guy across the room, and they both look away quickly. "Shit," he says. "Guys, that's my uncle."
Jim says, "Uh-oh. Are you afraid he's going to rat you out to your parents for smoking?"
"Nah, I think I'm in the clear. That's not his wife he's eating with."
Food comes, food is uneventful outside of occasional uneasy glances between Dave and his uncle, and we decide to return home. It's now something like 5AM. Once again, because middle of nowhere, we have to go to the town we were originally headed to to get to an ATM so I could provide the promised gas money. I get the bills, pass them to Jim, and he tucks them in the car visor for safekeeping. We head toward the school, and decide to take a winding back road for fun, because we've all been up for like 20 hours, full of syrup, youth, and hubris, and what could go wrong?
As we are winding down the tree-lined road in the mountains, we pass what can only be described as a lot of clean-stripped deer skeletons by the side of the road. Like, not a ton, but more than one should reasonably expect, which is none. Not carcasses, or roadkill, or scattered bones, but whole, clean skeletons. Which, as any country person can tell you, isn't a thing that happens naturally. We all confirmed with each other that we had seen it, confirmed with each other that it was both weird and terrifying, and decided that we would not speak of it again for fear of drawing the attention whatever crazy bastard would do that. We drove the road again a few days later; no skeletons. I don't know if that was good or not.
As the winding back road merged back onto the main road close to our school, I should note that this road runs along a ridgeline. There are no wind breaks, there are no trees, nothing. You get the full force of whatever weather is going on. For some reason, Jim rolls down his window to catch the morning breeze. Turns out there's some serious wind going on, and the gas money blows out the window. We pull over, and search frantically for the cash as the sun comes up. No dice. We probably searched for a half hour along this narrow two-lane as cars and trucks blew past. We're afraid it went over the ridge, or got caught on the tire of another car, or something. I beg off the search, desperate for sleep, which angers Jim because he needs the money, but he relents and we head back. We go to the dorms and call our respective girlfriends (this is pre-ubiquitous cell phones) to meet us at the cafeteria for a snack before we collapse. Dave and I head back to our rooms. Jim heads back out to search for the money, and finds it immediately on a stretch of road we checked a dozen times.
Not the only odd stuff that happened in that crew of people, but this is probably the longest single chain of connected events out of all of them.

Carly Simon - Coming Around Again
youtube
And she's helped we can't get them to stop fighting and then she says have you tried everything and he said no.. and it's you two and we have to try
I want them to see what I look like and I look beautiful he says cuz she's a little oddly shaped right now not much but she's f****** down and it makes her look odd and she fit in and s*** in her dry like this s*** is pushed out a little your mouth is big and doesn't match the size did I have that look too he loves me a lot and misses me and he pretends he kisses her on the cheek and I didn't think you would be like that but I do love him I want to come home I hear what you're saying but during this time I need to protective and protected I see
Hera
We know she needs to be with people and we got that and we're going to work on it and make it work this time. This is for the most part they don't know what goes on it's really true we have to do this and we know about how to adjust for her
Thor Freya
We're going to proceed with the planes to help her and to get her there and we do know what we're talking about and really they don't know if she's up there or not so it means that they wouldn't know if she moved or not. And it would motivate people to have a life and economy and so forth and if you think of their people are having to say it so she's not getting mad or upset when she's saying he's doing it and it's working and eventually she'll be free
Olympus
I am saying that and you be quiet okay it says okay he wants to see Jen mop it's kind of Robin good friend and the guy has helped him with that but he's saying that and yeah you're kind of a slow poke she was laughing about it said boy this stuff is starting. I want to get up there and sing like her
It sort of get something corean can do that and she's like oh yeah. She's got a laughing nothing stays the same and she turns black now Garth is laughing I didn't see my husband driving his dagger oh s*** you're turning black when the wrong neighborhood... And Garth says that's upsetting cuz it happens and this whole damn thing is upsetting and he says what are you doing it for so she can sneak in and oh dear God
There are a few things happening around here one of them is his roof is not being roofed and I used to working on a permit and don't have that ready yet but in town there's a lot of stuff going on it's a busy place and they're a lot of people who do a lot of things and they're really basically attacking these warlock and I can't stand them and I don't know what to say they won't stop they won't shut up and they're going to bring themselves up they're going to burn themselves up and just don't wait around it to just heading right towards it and we tried everything basically we tried a lot of stuff and the pseudo empire can't do it they can't sit in the meeting. This guy is stuck to him now when it's Trump it's because he's losing and we need him out. He's a homosexual pedophile and use a homicidal maniac and other reasons and we need him to leave and I'm requesting it now.
I know I'll be okay I'm getting ready in case and packing up and it is coming up around the time that you'll be traveling so now I'm encouraged and yeah I like to do that to you so you don't know LOL it's kind of backwards but okay. You sit there oblivious cuz you have to concentrate there it's so harsh here .
I can't wait and I hope it's this time. There's some problems with The fleets and he says it's going to be this one and then Neptune that was Stone chips up and I'll be fighting harshly over them and they'll probably sit there as broken holes and The fleets will be diminished at that time it takes a while so we can hear from father and mother of yours and mine from China
Ok
Hera
And yeah okay thanks for the intro after the above he said and now live from China. What we have to say is he's right there will be another planet after this slow mover. And then there will be Neptune and that's the planet and it goes around and while it's going around they're going to be fighting over Saturn. And a lot of activity will be around it tons of activity and on it a little bit and a lot of attempted scans and we'll have to work and it will push the whole thing it will help me in my assessments and items will be going there and we will be very very productive and there's another aspect to it what he's saying is we are vulnerable here and up there it's hard to get anything near Venus and that's a problem believe it or not if we have to get there we're going to have trouble we have to go in and risk exposing tech at some point it is true and he said there's no game there she's just a sitting duck like me and we're trying to change that too and there is game and it would be on the surface too like tomorrow I love you Giants and they be getting their asses handed to them and it'll look like by each other I really need that it's also a lot of security in something of that size and it's not much in Venus and we all become vulnerable in that sense psychologically we look too easy and it feels good but it's not right and all bunch of yammary assholes you're busy affected they might not see her going or coming to it and really nobody really saw her go to Venus it's just what Ken said and he's at it again and they want to use him as a reference mostly people think they're motivating people and their saying is one of them and things like that fun facts there are two and ours she's our daughter and not yours. And yeah I think the cigarette boats are dangerous and slander us by crashing one. Lol it's funny because she put in the word because they're too not one so he's now expanding on the cigarette thing with the boat and a lot of people are saying that's a good idea so he wants to make the cigarette cigarette it's the type of boat that is the name of the boat company and then racing boats of all kinds boats of all kinds made out of the different metal and he says was racing here getting a new techniques of boat building and we could use the stitch method or the stamp and they're saying stitch method would be new they do stay at middle halls for racing and they don't cuz I was wondering if we can start with stitch because still tells me like titanium alloy supercars it's true too and she's smiling she's helping. So we are saying that's going to happen and it's far too many ships going out there and they'll have big huge space battles instead of this drawn-out crap and he was in the mainland in the game was bigger the game was bigger when he was in California in New England I bought it became harsh and very dangerous and we have to take a look at that

It's NaNoWriMo, time to get crackin I suppose
For this November I'll be journaling my thoughts on writing here as a way to prepare myself for this nanowrimo book. A pre-writing writing session if you will.
This is the first day, this means that I'm writing on a blank piece of paper. This means that first things first, I need an introduction. I'm not looking for a groundbreaking intro, I just need one that works. Nanowrimo is all about not writing an amazing book, just a normal one. I don't need to impress anyone with this intro.
I'm going to follow how a lot of stories start today, and that's in media res. I'm going to set up some sort of conflict and launch the reader right into it. In order to make a decent in media res however, I'm going to need a few things set straight first.
This isn't a rule of writing, this is actually just a singular thought on how I should just accomplish this particular story, and in this one I'm going to assemble a list of things I'd like my intro to accomplish.
Setting
A character (can be multiple)
A conflict
A vibe
An idea, (or an action)
Setting: A good intro needs to introduce the readers to a setting that grounds them in the rest of the book. A setting that I can move from and return to and the reader goes "okay yeah this place, that's where this thing happened." A place that is a root note in music, a place that's home to the reader.
I'm writing a sci-fi about a human colony on an asteroid. The terrain and setting are vastly different than on earth, so I need to establish a home base so my readers can start a mental map of the asteroid. I'm starting in the zero grav condensed city Sphere B6. This is where the main character lives, and so we'll return to it quite often.
Character: (Or multiple) An in media res introduction needs a character doing an action, resolving some conflict. Usually they're competent at whatever it is that they're doing. This can be the main character, or it can be a preview on what the main character will run into. This leads us into the concept of promises. More on that in a bit.
I'll be using a side character for my introduction. "Garth Fields" will be a proxy to show the readers the conflict and ideas of the story without putting my actual main character in harms way... yet. Anyway Garth is going to meet with a bad fate simply due to the job. He's literally doing a task for work that has a chance of death, and he dies.
Conflict: This is where we get into the differences between good and bad in media res intros. A good intro will show a conflict that is relevant to the book's overarching story. One that maybe even resolves in the same way the book will resolve. (Or maybe the conflict in the intro doesn't resolve but the audience knows how it should have resolved, making it satisfying when it comes back later and the audience knows what's going to happen.)
I'm not going to resolve this conflict happily. One of the side characters will die because of it. It sets up my conflict of Man vs Man in a hierarchical society. Workers die for the "greater good" I.E. profits. This sets up that the actual conflict of the book isn't a worker experiencing a workplace hazard, but the fact that there is a system built that allows for workers to die in hazards in the first place. The conflict resolution at the end won't be about removing the hazard from the workplace, but removing the system that allowed for it.
Vibe: This is more esoteric than the others, but it's necessary that the intro lets readers know what they're in for for the remainder of the book. What kind of language is used, what's the genre, is it funny? Will it be sad? Don't wait to explain what your book is about sometime after the intro, readers might not get that far. And if you vibe switch halfway through, make sure the intro reflects that there could be a switch later. Hitchhikers Guide does this really well. It's a comedy and there are jokes, but it also ruminates on life, and it lets you know what you're in for on the very first page.
I'm interested in writing pretty hard sci-fi, so I'll be using terms and explanations in this intro that launches the reader right into the world, It'll be a sad struggle into a happy ending, and I should be able to nail that vibe in the intro. The intro will be taking it from apprehensive to sad, the readers will want justice for poor Garth Fields, and so when it arrives it will be satisfying.
An idea, or an action. This is my personal preference. I like it when books have a "thing" that makes them unique, whether it be magic, a weird cultural habit, odd geography, or anything else that sets them apart of other books. Whatever it is that your story has, you need to make sure it's in the intro. If you go hard in the paint with magic systems, you don't have to explain it in the intro, but you absolutely need to show it early. If you're writing a book about steamy BL between two NASCAR drivers, you absolutely need a car or a race in the intro. Don't start with one of the guys getting a bagel or something. I opened a book with BL Nascar on the cover, I better be getting it dammit. Obviously there are amazing books that don't do this, but not doing this is for people who already have written books. I'm just starting now, so I'm not going to break any rules.
I love writing fun sci fi technology, so I came up with some fictional tech that almost works like a magic system. Magnets that don't get attracted to anything other than their other "keyed" half. The main character is someone who works as a magnet Key engineer, so I'll be having this tech all throughout the book. I'm introducing it in the intro with "Garth." He dies because he has to go "re-key" a failed magnet that's stopping their spaceship from progressing.
Now that I have come up with these ideas, I can launch right into my 2000 words with a better sense of where I'm going than just staring at a blank page.
I'll be posting more of my thoughts here throughout the month to help me write this damn book. For now, we write.

Sick
Pairing: Dean x Reader, Dean x Allie (OC) Word count: 2,528
Read on AO3
Part 2 of Unholy
Benny was the first to notice your absence the next day. There sat…Mary. “Hi, Mrs. Winchester.” He greeted her.
She smiled over at him. “Good morning, Benny.” She saw him, Cas, and Garth almost like her boys. “How have you been?”
“I’ve been pretty good.” He smiled. “Lunch is on me.” He told her, as last time she saw him was dinner over at her house with everyone.
Chuckling, she nodded. “Okay.” She agreed, knowing he’d order her something either way. He was sweet like that.
Cas and Garth were already in the breakroom when he walked in. “Y/N out today?” He asked.
Dean nodded. “She’s out sick. Dunno when she’s coming back.” He lied. Technically, you may have actually been sick. He didn’t know if you were getting morning sickness or not. You weren’t answering his texts or calls. You told him he’d be seeing you, so he hoped that would be soon.
“Maybe I’ll bring her something to eat after work.” Benny mused, going to pour himself a cup of coffee. “Soup or somethin’.”
“Oh, I have some tea at home that is excellent for an upset stomach. Do you mind if I join you?” Cas asked, hopeful.
Garth perked up a bit. “I’ll text my mom, ask her to make some crackers. Best crackers ever.” He told Cas.
Dean let them plan that, getting out of the room to ‘start the day’. In all reality, he knew that you’d be a million times more likely to talk to them. It stung to not be greeted by you in the morning, to not hear your voice all day, to not hear your laugh, and to know the pair of you wouldn’t be having dinner after work anymore. He missed you, and hated how things went. He also knew he had no one else to blame but himself.
You were surprised when dinner time rolled around, and there was a knock at your door. Opening the door, you saw Benny, Cas, and Garth. Each with bags in hand. “Guys?” You were confused, but let them in. “What’re you doing here?”
“Dean said you were out sick.” Cas explained, noting you didn’t look sick at all. A bit like you’d been crying, but not sick.
“Jesus Christ.” You groaned, shutting the door a little harder than you meant to.
“Everything okay, cher?” Benny furrowed his brows.
“First, can I get you guys something to drink? I just made pasta. I don’t have enough for everyone, but it looks like you brought food.”
Garth nodded. “Soup, tea, and homemade crackers.”
You gave them a soft smile. “That’s sweet. Come on, you guys can eat with me.” You motioned for them to follow you to the dining room.
Once you were all situated, Benny looked towards you. “So, talk to us. Who we gotta beat up?” He said playfully. “Looks like you been crying.” He said gently.
Sitting back, you sipped your water. “I didn’t know Dean is married.” Your eyes were on the table in front of you. “No one ever mentioned her, and he doesn’t wear a wedding ring.” Benny’s jaws clenched. “I’ve been seeing him for a couple months now. We’d stay after work to have dinner and hook up. Yesterday I had planned to ask him what we were, because we never went on actual dates. Then I met his wife . I knew then.” You sighed. “He tried to get me to stay. Said we wouldn’t sleep together anymore, but he needed me around. I told him that unless he’s a deadbeat, he’ll be seeing me.” Your cheeks were on fire. You’d slept with a married man, and were now having his baby. What did that say about you? Even if you didn’t know, most people likely wouldn’t believe you.
“You’re pregnant, cher?” Benny’s voice was soft, and comforting.
You couldn’t help but tear up, nodding. “Yeah.” You sighed, wiping your cheek.
“How far along are you?” Cas asked.
“I think about two months? But I’m not sure. My first appointment is in a week.” You hadn’t even told your mother yet. You’d wait until you could tell her how far along you were, and give yourself time to explain who the father was. She was sick, and you hoped this didn’t stress her out to the point of making it worse.
“I can see why you quit.” Garth was so angry with Dean. You didn’t deserve this, Allie didn’t deserve it, and none of the kids involved deserved this! “Want me to keep my eye out for other jobs?”
You gave him a small smile. “Sure, Garth.” You agreed. “Thank you guys for being so supportive. I did really love working there, with you, but I just can’t. However, if I can’t find something soon, I may have to ask him for my job back.” That was really the last thing you wanted to do, but this was about more than just you now.
“Do you got anyone to go with you to that appointment?” Benny asked, making you look at him. When you shook your head, he sat up straight. “May I go with you?” He asked, not wanting you to go alone. “We can get lunch after.” He offered.
“I’d like that, thank you.” You agreed. “I’ll text you the details.”
The next morning, Benny wanted nothing more than to deck Dean. Instead, he just glared at him. “I need next Tuesday off.” He said bluntly.
“Don’t you have bookings? Why do you suddenly need off?” He asked, confused.
Cas walked in at that moment. “Because you’re a dick who can’t keep it in his pants?” He muttered, raising an eyebrow at him. “When do you plan to tell Allie?”
“Tell Allie what?” Came Allie’s voice from behind Cas. “I’m covering the front desk today while Y/N is sick. Mary had plans.” She looked between the guys, Layla on her hip.
Benny and Cas shared a look before Benny spoke up. “Y/N has an appointment and I’d like to be there with her.” He said simply. “I can come in Thursday on my day off.”
Dean nodded. “Sure.” He clearly wasn’t happy.
Cas and Benny slipped out, leaving Allie and Dean alone. “What’s going on? You look upset.” She rubbed over his shoulders.
“Just a bad morning, that’s all. Just one of those days.” He sighed. Dean knew he couldn’t lie forever. You expected him to be there for the baby. But what if Benny stepped up? Would you rather have Benny as a father figure? The thought of not being there for his kid pissed him off. Would the baby be a Winchester? Or would they have your last name?
The following Tuesday, Dean knew that you and Benny were out together. Benny was getting to see his baby on screen. It wasn’t like he could be there, but it still stung. Cas was covering the front, and John was in for the day. “Boy, what crawled up your ass?” John asked Dean halfway through the morning.
“Nothing. Bad day.”
“From what Allie tells me you’ve been having a bad day for a week now.” He pointed out. “So spill, because she’s worried about you.”
Dean clenched his jaw, but before he could tell his father to butt out, he heard your voice. Standing up, he peeked around the corner to see you hugging Cas. And showing him a small paper. He knew what that was.
John looked over. “I thought Y/N was sick?” He asked, confused.
Garth perked up. “Y/N is here? Oh, baby picture!” He gushed before snapping his mouth shut. Seeing the awkward looking between the Winchester men, he slipped out to go say hi to you.
You smiled over at Garth, ignoring the sight of Dean out of the corner of your eye. “Hi, Garth.” You gave him a hug. “Tell your mom I will happily buy those crackers from her any time. I got up in the middle of the night and needed them.” You chuckled.
“She’ll just make them for you.” He shrugged. “So, how was your appointment?”
“Good!” You showed him the ultrasound.
John looked from where you were with the guys, to his son. He could tell Dean was forcing himself not to look at you. He crossed his arms over his chest. “Does your mood have anything to do with Y/N?” He asked, voice low. Dean’s reaction told him everything he needed to know. “Are you pissy because she’s close to the guys or something?” He asked. “She’s a great girl.”
Dean rolled his eyes at that. “Drop it, dad.” He tried.
“No, I won’t. You told me and your mother that you needed coverage while she was sick. She doesn’t look sick to me. So, what the hell is going on?” He asked, angry.
Standing up, he stared at his father. “Drop it.” He ground out.
“Excuse me? I can always just go ask her.” He threatened.
“She quit, okay?!” He threw his hands up. “I’m hoping she’ll change her mind, so I haven’t put an ad out yet.” He wasn’t lying, so he hoped his father just stopped pushing. “Now, can we please get back to work?” He tried.
John knew there was more to the story, but dropped it for now. He got back to work, wondering what happened. You seemed to really like working there. Garth came back in minutes later, clearly happy after chatting with you. “How’s Y/N? And who’s baby picture was she showin’ you?” He asked casually, eyes on the car he was working on.
“She’s good. They’re bringing lunch in a bit. And it was hers.” He shrugged, going back to the car that he’d been doing an oil change on.
That was not what he had been expecting. He looked over just in time to see you walking out with Benny. “I didn’t even know her and Benny were a thing.” He mused. “Good for them. Hope it works out.”
Dean hated this so much.
That Friday, Mary and John were over for dinner at Dean’s, and Mary was happily cuddling Layla on the couch. John was sitting on the floor playing with Xander and David. They both looked forward to the newest addition that was due in two and a half months. “Oh, Allie, Y/N’s baby will only be a few months younger than Ethan. Maybe the two of you can have little playdates for them.”
Allie looked surprised. “I didn’t even know she was pregnant.” She admitted. “Dean didn’t say anything.” Her eyes went to her husband. “Why didn’t you say something? I could have sent her some of those nausea lollipops.”
“She quit, that’s why.” John told her.
“Wait, what? I thought she was just sick?” Allie asked, even more confused.
“I did, too.” Mary told her. “I only found out about her being pregnant because John told me Tuesday after work.” She shrugged, tickling Layla. “Benny looks really happy about it.”
Dean felt that things were just crumbling down around him, and he didn’t know how to handle it. He knew he had to come clean with Allie sooner or later, but he didn’t know how. He knew that when he did, he’d lose everything. Getting up, he went to get a beer.
Allie got up and followed him, worried. “What’s going on, Dean? Talk to me!” She pleaded.
“Something has been bothering you for the past couple weeks, and it feels like you’re shutting me out.” It hurt. “You’re my best friend, and my husband. I hate seeing you like this.”
“I don’t know what it is.” He lied. “Maybe I’m just stressed. Next week isn’t as busy, maybe we can take a family trip for a couple days?” He looked at her, hopeful. One last trip before she hated him.
She rubbed her hand over his back and kissed his arm. “Yeah, we can do that.” She agreed, hoping that this helped whatever was on his mind. “Maybe you should take a step back? Work a bit less?” She suggested.
“I’ll think about it. More time with you and the kids is always a good thing.” He gave her a soft smile. “I love you so much. Thank you for being with me.”
She grinned. “I love you, too.”
A week later, you still hadn’t even had an interview. You were nearing 3 months pregnant, and did not want to be stressed out about a job the further along you got. “Do you think I should ask for my job back?” You asked Benny softly over dinner one night. “I’m not getting any call backs, and I need a job. I’ll just keep my head down and do my job.”
Benny gave you a sad smile, knowing that was the last thing that you wanted to do. “You could, and keep looking for a new job in the meantime. This way you can leave again the second you have something else.” He suggested.
“Yeah, that might be the best bet.” You sighed. “Alright, I’ll text him after.”
“How about after dinner I go get us some dessert, we can cuddle up and watch your Criminal Minds, and then I’ll do the dishes before I go.”
You couldn’t help but smile. “You don’t have to do the dishes.” You chuckled.
“Tough. I’m doin’ them.” He gave you a wink.
Benny left about 8, and you sucked it up. Dean?
You didn’t have to wait long for his reply. I honestly thought you’d blocked me! Is something wrong? Do you need anything?
Chewing on your lip, you sighed. I’m having no luck finding a job. Can I come back to work until I find something else? What if he told you ‘no’?
You stared at your phone, seeing those three little dots pop up. Of course! I’ll text Cas to let him know you’ll be in tomorrow. I won’t see you until Saturday. He told you.
It was currently Wednesday, so you figured he was just taking time off. I’ll see you on Saturday. You sent him, thinking that at least that gave you time to get used to the idea of being around him all day again. “Crap.” You let your head fall back. At least he worked in the back with the cars, so that was a small blessing.
Thursday and Friday had gone really well. Friday night, you were watching a movie and enjoying a pizza with Cas, Garth, and Benny when Dean texted. Are you having any cravings?
You found it odd, but answered anyway. Just fruits, really. And apple fritters. Why?
I was going to bring whatever you were craving to the shop tomorrow.
Was he going to try to win you over or something? “You okay, cher?” Benny asked, holding you close.
“Dean is asking about cravings.” You explained, showing him the text.
“Tell him I got you covered.” He kissed your temple, making you smile. “Shoulda asked before, but be my girl?”
Grinning, you nodded. “Yes, I will.”
“It’s about time.” Garth chuckled, making Cas nod.
I’m okay, thank you. Benny gets what I need :)

A/N: Sorry this one’s short again, I've been so busy with family stuff and so focused on the Christmas imagines that Friday snuck up on me. I hope you enjoy this chapter regardless. If you need a little extra Dean or Jensen fix you can check out my Christmas Imagines.
Once Destiny is finally feeling a little happier and settled you all go into the kitchen to have breakfast as a family. By now it’s all cold so you reheat the food and make new coffee. Destiny tries a little bacon with her cow heart; she’s slowly getting used to trying out different human foods just so she can taste new things and have something that you can give her in public if necessary. She still needs the hearts for nutrients and to fuel her body and you and Dean are both coming to accept that and even get used to it. The oozing blood is still a little unsettling, especially dripping down her cheek or chin, but you try to compare it to the ketchup that Dean smears all over his face when eating.
With so much being said in the bedroom, none of you feel the need to talk anymore, so you share your yummy, if not slightly greasy, breakfast in comfortable silence. Once you finish you clear the table, Dean starts the dishes and then Destiny helps to dry up. You brought an old wooden stool in from one of the backrooms so she could reach the sink more easily to help. She loves to be helpful and join in the domestic things with you and Dean. As she finishes drying the dishes she hands them to you so you can put them back in their rightful home. The three of you follow this routine almost daily now so it’s almost like a well-oiled machine; it just feels right.
With the dishes washed, dried and put away Dean finally goes to find his brother while you take Destiny back to her room to brush her hair and get changed out of her pyjamas. You then leave her to play in her room for a few minutes while you get ready yourself.
As you’re tying your hair up in a ponytail Dean walks in and sits on your bed. “So, uh, Sam found a case…”
“I know. He told me, and I told him that you should go.”
“What? I thought…”
You take a seat beside him, facing him, and take his hands in yours and place them in your lap. “You’re unsettled, restless and starting to unintentionally take it out on me and Destiny. I can handle your outbursts, I’m used to them. She can’t. You need to be out there. We agreed on weening you off the hunts. Cold turkey doesn’t work for you, that’s become abundantly clear.”
“I said I wouldn’t. What about…”
You kiss his cheek. “Dean, Baby. It’s okay. You need to go let off some steam and it’s better you unleash it on a real monster that’s doing real bad than our family or our little girl who’s trying her best to be good. I love you and it’s okay. I know who I married.”
He leans forward and kisses you softly. “Only if you’re completely sure?”
“I am. It’s okay. I just have a couple of requests…”
“Name your price, Sweetheart, anything.”
“Be careful and come home safe.”
He kisses you again. “I promise.”
“Good. Then you go out there and make our world a little bit safer.”
“I love you.”
“You prove that every day. But I do love hearing it too. And I love you.” This time you lean forward and kiss him. You both make the most of the fleeting privacy and make out for a while before he pulls away.
“Think she’ll be sleeping in her own room by the time I come back?”
“No promises.”
He sighs. “I have to pack and go before I change my mind and stay here with you in this bed.”
“I’ll be waiting for you.”
“Good.” He kisses you again and then drags himself off the bed to pack his duffle which has been sitting abandoned in the back of the wardrobe. He stuffs in a few days' worth of clothes and then heads down to the armoury where you’re now storing all the weapons to gather everything else he needs.
While he packs you go into Destiny’s room and carefully explain that Sam and Dean have to go away for a few days. You sit on her bed as she’s playing with dolls like a normal child.
“Hey, Sweetie.” She puts the dolls down and crawls over to you. “Are you ready to go out? Get some more stuff to make this room feel more like you’re own. Maybe get some nice new outfits?”
She nods and stands up quickly but you softly grab her wrist and pull her into your lap. “For the next few days, it’s just gonna be you and me, okay?”
“Where Dean going?”
“He and Sam have to take care of something out of town. But they’re gonna come home as soon as they can, okay?”
“Like a hunt?”
You nod. “Yeah, it’s a hunt. But what they’re hunting is doing real bad. It’s hurting people. So they’re just gonna go check it out and see what they can do.”
“Okay…”
“I know you’re still adjusting here, so are we. But Dean needs to do this so he can continue to adjust. So, we’re gonna have a few girls' days! Shopping, makeup, slumber parties, baking, all the fun stuff that Dean grumbles out. How’s that sound?”
“Fun!”
“Awesome! Once Sam and Dean are ready to go then we’ll head out as well. Come on.”
You stop by your room to grab your jacket and handbag before leading her out to the garage where the boys are packing the Impala. Once Dean shuts the trunk he looks up and sees you and Destiny standing in the doorway.
“Look at this, Sammy, we got ourselves a send-off party,” he says with a smirk. He wanders over and kneels down to hug Destiny first. “You be good for Y/N now, won’t you?” She nods. “Good girl. I’m gonna miss you kid, but I’ll be back soon.”
“I miss you too,” she says as she hugs him.
He kisses the top of her head before standing up and focusing on you. He pulls you in for a tight hug and then kisses you deeply. When he pulls back he whispers, “I love you, Mrs. Winchester. I’ll be back before you know it.”
You smile and blush. “I love you too, Mr Winchester. I’ll be waiting. Stay safe.”
“Always. Especially now that I have something to come home to.”
You kiss him again before pulling away and pushing him away towards the car. “Now go on, we have a girls' weekend to start,” you say with a smile to hide the pain of saying goodbye.
Dean smiles at you as he gets in the car. “Come on, Sammy!”
“You stay safe too, Sam,” you say and you pick Destiny up and sit her on your hip. You both stay there and wave until they’re out of sight. Then you grab the keys to the red car you love so much and drive into Lebanon.
