Married To The Boss [Four] | Rap Monster
Tumblr media
A party is being thrown which means it's time to get dressed and play the part. Y/N soon reaches her limit of tolerance.
Angst ahead
“How do you end up marrying your boss?” Jimin asks for the thousandth time.
Park Jimin is one of my best friends from dance school. He and I were always dance partners for all our class performances. Since graduating we’ve remain friends and roommates along with Jeon Jungkook. He and Jimin were friends before I came into the picture but the three of us got really close after a while. Jungkook usually goes back and forth between Busan and Seoul to follow his dream of being a singer. He auditioned for RM Entertainment but he didn’t get a call back.
“Yeah, marrying a stranger would make more sense but your boss is just like really bad luck.” Jungkook looked at both his hands like one being the married to a stranger and the other being your boss. He drops his hand with the boss option into his lap as the heavier option.
“Trust me if I wasn’t drunk I would’ve objected to the marriage myself.” The three of us sit on the roof of our apartment building. It’s usually what we do on the weekends sit outside and have random conversations all night.
“Now he’s asking you to be is wife for his dad’s sake?
“Not his dad’s sake but for his company’s sake, if he loses RM Entertainment who knows what business soldier they put in charge instead.”
“How is that you’re problem?” Jungkook adds, “It sounds like he’s just trying to get out of becoming an adult.”
“Jungkook’s right, you have no business playing this role. You should get the annulment now and continue with your life.”
“Unless…” Jungkook points his finger at me, “you’re doing this just to get close to him.”
I scoff, “I’m his assistant, Jungkook. I’m next to him every moment of work. Doing this in no different other than the fact that I have a ring on my finger from him.
Jimin takes my hand, “Speaking of rings, how much does this one go for? You pawn this and we could get a better T.V.”
“Oh, or a better computer screen for some Overwatch.”
I take my hand back, “Okay, you guys aren’t seeing the bigger picture here.”
Jungkook shrugs, “We’re just saying when this is over you’re not gonna give him the ring back, are you?”
“I don’t even know what I’m gonna do when I have to meet his parents.”
“Wait,” Jimin holds his hands up to halt the conversation, “does he even know about your mom and stuff like that?”
I shake my head, “Nope, he only knows what’s on the surface and what’s in my resume.”
Jungkook whistles, “You should probably leave your family issues out of the dinner discussions when you meet the in-laws.”
I groan smacking my hands into my face to ease the tension of the situation.
“So let’s say when you succeed in this whole sham. How does it end?”
“What?” I open my fingers to see Jimin through my hands.
“I mean when you convince his dad that you two are married what happens then? Are you two gonna stay together for rest of your life? Are you guys gonna divorce?”
“I don’t know.”
Jimin’s question continued to repeat in my head all night. How does this all end? Will I still have a job when it’s over? I scared to ask Mr. Kim about it.
The past few days were a little rough. The whispers of my co-workers never stopped. The looks were worse whenever I would pass by or go into Mr. Kim’s office to drop off his schedules and messages for the week. I tried really hard to avoid them because I was helping our boss keep his position. It’s difficult when no one knows the truth so they make up their own to justify the situation.
Mr. Kim hasn’t spoken to me about what the plan would be next. Chairman Kim hasn’t made any other problems for me or him. It gives me hope that things have gone well and my work is done but I hate lying to myself.
“My dad is having a party tonight and he’s asked me to bring you along.” He continues to write as he’s telling me this information.
“As your assistant or as your wife?” Whenever Chairman Kim would hold parties I would always go but as more of an informant for him and seeing as how things have changed it confuses me as how we would act this time around.
He lifts his head to look at me, “My wife.” He gives me a sympathetic look, “I know the first meeting with my dad didn’t go so well but I think he’s had enough time to comprehend the situation so you can try to relax tonight.”
I nod silently and make my way towards the door before Mr. Kim calls to me again.
“One more thing, Y/N. There’s no need to be polite. We’re married now so from now on you can call me Namjoon.”
“Namjoon?”
He smirks revealing one of his dimples, “I’ll meet you after work so we can find you something to wear.”
As soon as I was done with work I was sent to multiple places to get ready for the party. It felt weird having my boss take me out to get pampered and dressed up. It was also odd being spoke to in a comfortable manner than a more professional way we are at work. There were some instances where I felt like we were actually a couple. Seeing Mr. Kim smile endearing to me when he saw something that suited me well continuously made my heart race.
I ended up with a light blue gown that was long but it had a spilt to reveal my leg. I didn’t think it suited me but Mr. Kim insisted that it was the one to wear. He was paying for it so I have no right to be picky about it.
In the car, Mr. Kim continued to reassure me that everything was going to be okay. It just wouldn’t loosen the knot in my stomach. Especially when I got out of the car and started seeing white flashes of cameras hitting us I was close to having another panic attack. Mr. Kim gave me his arm to hold as he led the way up to the building. This party wasn’t just for businessmen. It includes actors, directors, producers, musicians and anyone who’s anybody in the entertainment industry.
“You’ll be fine.” Mr. Kim whispers to me as he places his hand over mine. Entering the building filled with well known entertainers along with reporters it was like the usual but this time I was the date instead of the employee. We walk across the room which feels like we just did laps around. We reach a table which consists of Chairman Kim and his wife. I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Kim which makes it more nerve wracking to introduce myself as her daughter-in-law.
“Hi mom, dad,” Mr. Kim leans in to give his mom a kiss on the cheek.
“Joonie, it seems we only get to see each other on these formal occasions.”
“I know mom, I’m sorry. Things have been getting busy lately.”
“Oh I’ve heard all about your ‘busy’ schedules from your father. Speaking of which,” Mrs. Kim leans her head to the side passed Mr. Kim’s shoulders to look at me.
Here it is. If Chairman Kim’s reaction was bad I can’t imagine what his wife’s will be like, meeting the ‘secret’ woman that took her only son away from her.
The next feeling is not what I was expecting at all. Mrs. Kim squeezes me in her arms in a tender motherly way.
“Oh this must be the one. I can tell because she’s so beautiful and anyone who married my Joonie has to be the best.”
I shake myself out of this shocking moment to introduce myself, “Mrs. Kim, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Y/F/N.”
“Honey, there’s no need to be formal here. Please, call me mom. You’re family now, my daughter.”
I smile graciously at her. I just met this woman as my mother-in-law and she quickly sees me as a member of the family. My own mother never gave me this much love. It almost brings me to tears feeling maternal love.
“Sweetheart, please don’t encourage this.” Chairman Kim interjects.
That tender moment is quickly cut short. We all sit down and enjoy the rest of the party. It still didn’t break the harsh questions Chairman Kim started to throw at me, one after the other.
“Y/N, what is it exactly your parents do?”
Of course the family question, “Um, my father was a dance instructor, he passed away when I was seventeen. My mother took it hard so I haven’t been in much contact with her as of late.” Sprinkling a little lie with the truth doesn’t mess up the whole cake, does it?
“Pity, every girl should have her mother be a part of her life. It helps the child from making such drastic mistakes in her life such as taking advantage of single bachelors of a multimillion dollar company.”
His words stung. I can understand his frustration with the situation but how can he be so harsh towards someone he hasn’t even gotten to know, personally, yet.
“Dad,” Mr. Kim clears his throat, “can we not do this?”
He scoffs, “I would’ve said the same thing about this marriage.”
Mrs. Kim steps in calm her fuming husband, “Dear, why don’t we dance you know I love this song.”
Taking a breath to calm himself, he nods and takes his wife to the open floor to slow dance with the rest of the couples.
I release a little of the breath I had been holding in since sitting down. Mr. Kim pats my hand that’s in my lap.
“He’s just bitter. You’ll be okay once he warms up to you.”
“Your mom seems really happy about it all.”
He smirks, “I knew she would. She’s always been open minded when it came to my choices in life. She was the one that convinced my dad to let me start a business in the music industry. I owe her a lot.”
“If you wanna thank her then you should visit her more often. I’m sure she’d want to see that you’re doing well other than hearing it.” Quickly I remember that my comment was too personal, “I’m sorry, sir that was crossing the line.”
“I told you to talk comfortably with me and to call me Namjoon.”
“The majority of the time I’ve known you I’ve only spoken properly to you so it’s difficult to drop the formalities all of a sudden and under these circumstances where I’m still your assistant.”
“I already told you. You’re here as my wife, not my assistant.”
After our talk, I decide to take a break in the bathroom. I need to give myself a chance to catch my breath. It seems like it’s been getting harder and harder to breathe lately. I sit in the stall fanning myself when it starts to get loud when a group of women come in chattering like a flock of seagulls. They all look older than me by a few years but with more grace since they’re more used to the glamorous crowd.
“These earrings are driving me crazy. The back keeps coming out of place.”
“Speaking of out of place, have you ladies seen the new Mrs. Kim of RM Entertainment?”
They all gasp as if they’ve been waiting for someone to bring the topic up, “I know, she looks like a lost puppy clinging onto Namjoon’s arm. The poor man probably lost circulation in his fingers.”
“It seems as though he’s losing circulation to his brain and is allowing his other head to do all the thinking.”
“It seems like it, high IQ in business but not so much in women. That poor girl won’t last. You can see it in Chairman Kim’s face that he wants her out of the picture just as quick as she got herself into it.”
“With looks like that I would be embarrassed to see my son marry a woman like that too. It’s obvious that the chairman’s wife is just pretending to be happy about it. She sees that girl more as a cat on the street. You feed it canned food once in a while and pet it but you would never bring it home with you, never know what kind of diseases it might have.”
They all laugh their way out of the bathroom leaving me in the quiet room choking on my tears. Is this how all of them see me? Is this how they all talk about me? I don’t even know anyone of those people but just by my looks they pass such harsh judgment on me. What did I expect, a welcome party? Just because I’m officially married to someone like Mr. Kim it doesn’t mean anything in the end. It’s like taking a whale out of the ocean and putting it in a tank to train it to perform for people. The whale eventually dies.
I quickly leave the bathroom but I don’t head back to the party. Instead, I make a desperate phone call.
As expected it only rang twice, “Hey, Y/N. How’s the party going?”
I secure the phone against my ear with my shoulder while I look in my clutch to find a tissue, “Jungkook, can you come pick me up?”
“Noona, are you bored already?” He asks jokingly.
“Can you pick me up or not?” I say with a harsh tone.
The attitude keeps Jungkook quiet for a moment before answering, “Yeah, of course. I’m leaving now just text me the address, but Y/N, are you okay?”
“I don’t want to talk about it over the phone.”
“Alright, I’m coming.”
I text Jungkook the address of a nearby 24 hour market so he could pick me up discreetly. I sneak out the back of the building in order to avoid being seen by reporters. My presence has already made news I wouldn’t want to make it worse being seen leaving without my husband and getting picked up by another man. I feel bad for leaving Mr. Kim behind but I can’t hold back the tears if he asks me what’s wrong.
I walk a few blocks away from the building. I begin to have the feeling of someone following me in a car. The suspicion is confirmed when the park parks near the sidewalk ahead of me and the familiar tall figure emerges from the car.
“Y/N, what are you doing? I was worried when I went to look for you in the bathroom and you weren’t there. Where are you going?”
I avert my gaze from his face, “I’m sorry Mr. Kim but I’m going home.”
“What’s the matter? Did my dad do something to you?”
I shake my head.
“Then what is it? You can tell me anything.”
I don’t know what gets into me but everything I had to keep myself calm gets thrown out the window.
“Don’t you get it? I’m not CEO wife material. I can’t keep pretending to be something that I’m so far from being. I’m a piece of coal compared to all those wives. No matter how hard you polish me I will always be a coal and never a diamond. Everyone at that party knows it, the people at work know it, your parents know it, I know it and even you know it but you continue to lie to yourself to make this whole arrangement work.”
“Y/N, don’t feel that way. All those people look down on everyone like that even when someone else is looking at them that same way. It a never ending cycle but you can’t get caught up in that.”
I swipe the fallen tears from my cheeks before making myself clear, “That’s not the point. Since we started this whole marriage charade things for me have changed. Not just by those people at the party but the people at work. They all think I seduced my way to being your assistant, that I planned this just to get your money. I was invisible but now I’m all they talk about.”
Mr. Kim approaches me with open arms, “It’s gonna be okay.”
“Y/N!” I hear the familiar voice of Jungook calling me. I called him less than fifteen minutes ago but he took his motorcycle to get here just in time. I waved for him to stay on the bike because I was finishing this now.
I take a few steps away from Mr. Kim, “You keep telling me that I’ll do fine but have you ever thought to actually ask if I was okay?”
There’s a long pause before I continue.
“I’m done. I quit. I quit as your wife…and as your assistant.” I start to remove all the expensive jewelry from my ears, neck, wrists and fingers. I take his hand, palm up, and place the shiny gifts in the center. Finally I take off the diamond band from my left ring finger and slide it on his pinky finger.
Before he could convince me otherwise, I hop on the back of Jungkook’s motorcycle and leave Kim Namjoon standing on the sidewalk. I did what I could for him but it could only go so far for me. I was helping him deal with his father but who was helping me deal with everyone else?
