She wouldn't discount his opinion simply because he was a man: that seemed inappropriate, to Sonia at least, even if she found herself in the opposite situation where the Royal Council and old aristocratic families were concerned. It was only a problem when, like so many men in power, they believed their opinions outweighed her own because she was young, pretty, and embodied a demure and polite femininity. One that they wanted to grace their dining tables, their garden parties, and their ballrooms but needed to be kept far away from Council meetings and the monarch's throne.
However, she was downright distracted by the sheer amount of physical touch that Anzu so easily engaged in. Maybe it was due to how she'd been instructed to regard Japanese customs, or how no one in her family would dare seek out such affection, especially in public. Her younger cousins used to seek out hugs from Sonia and their mother, but at ages 11 and 13, they had now decided that they were too old for hugs and time spent in someone's lap. A friendly embrace was something Sonia hadn't minded amongst her close, mostly female friends, but the way Anzu acted with Mr. King...it was far more passionate than that. Still, Sonia merely smiled, shifting her weight on her side of the booth as she tried not to think about how she was interrupting an intimate moment between the two of them.
"Then I would wager a guess and say that your time spent in the company of women has given you insight that, as you say, most men either do not want to understand or cannot bring themselves to," She nodded in agreement, finishing off her second glass of champagne. While Anzu had cuddles, Sonia engaged in the same behavior she would've done back home: drink alcohol and pretend not to notice, or at least not draw attention to her friend's overly familiar attitude. "And you are correct: laws and traditions do, indeed, favor men. I can confirm that with plenty of personal experience. However, the world I intend to create, and thus live in, will be one that recognizes the importance of all in the workplace as well as raising a family. Such things should not be limited to being a single gender's responsibility, but in the case of female clientele, I can imagine you must hear similar complaints often."
She'd let her mask of anonymity slip: foreigner anonymity but a sense of anonymity nonetheless. Most people probably didn't insist upon the fact that they would be creating a world, but most people weren't heirs to one of the last absolute monarchies on Earth, and the only future reigning queen of an absolute monarchy to boot. Still, Mr. King couldn't have known that including a woman's responsibility of 'raising the next generation' had, in particular, touched a nerve. Of someone who was expected to both eventually run a country and raise a family, and do both flawlessly and without complaint.
"I think out of all of those possible methods of interactions, I find the airing of grievances to be the most surprising," She added with a wary smile. "I suppose I am simply accustomed to never complaining about one's life to anyone, at least in my family, to each other or to friends." And that barely touched on therapy, something Sonia attended: once a week, in complete secrecy, always under the guise of some other royal duty. It had been a condition upon her decision to enroll at Hope's Peak, with a therapist with secret entrances to her office who had signed nearly two dozen legal forms to ensure her silence on anything discussed with the Princess of Novoselic. Sonia could only surmise mental health care wasn't embraced by Japanese society: not the way excessive drinking and supporting a favorite host was, though by the sound of things the hosts put in equally hard work in ensuring their clients felt special.
If only due to the amount of patrons who kept coming, some flirty, some shy, most requesting a specific host as regular customers. "You must work very long hours, considering the popularity of the club," Sonia remarked as they finished the second bottle of champagne, watching as tables filled quickly around them and more hosts appeared, with perfect hairstyles and stylish attire, from the back rooms.
It didn't seem, to Anzu, like Sonia had entirely taken her suggestion seriously. Well, no big deal, she thought. What kind of wannabe matchmaker would the illustrious Anzu Tachibana be if she gave up at the first hurdle? If Sonia wouldn't go to Shinobu to talk about these sorts of things, either due to not wanting to burden her with something so serious, or thinking it might be an awkward conversation, then she'd just need to see to it that Shinobu herself brought up the topic. That was... probably a little more difficult than it sounded, said so simply, but Anzu did have the home field advantage, having known Shinobu for close to a decade. She'd definitely figure something out - maybe even for later this evening, once the two of them met up with her after the club.
So much thinking when all she really wanted to do was be adored in King's arms. Tsk tsk, the things she did for others. "Mm..." King touched one hand to his chin, before bringing both hands back down to play with Anzu's hair, apparently having sensed that she was becoming restless. "It depends on the guest," he started, giving more thought to Sonia's question than most hosts likely would have. "This is just my opinion, and being a man, it might not be the most informed one?" He laughed, momentarily running his fingers through his hair to rest behind his neck.
"You guys can talk all you want," Anzu murmured, physically moving King's arm back down. "If Sonia-san is curious, then please answer her questions, but stop fidgeting and jerking around so much." Again, King laughed, sitting up straight and gently pulling Anzu more upright, so that he could rub at her shoulders. "I will say, this much physical touch usually isn't normal," King explained, "but Anzu-san and I are close friends." Even if he had a slightly spacey attitude, and seemed an unusual fit for a host club, it was clear enough that he was trying to take things seriously and present a good explanation.
"I think..." He almost touched his face again, before sheepishly smiling and continuing to massage the girl in his lap. "It seems hard to be a woman. Laws and traditions favor men. Bosses and professors might be creepy, or have outdated ideas about gender, or just be generally unsympathetic. The things women like are treated like less important or stupid. Women are needed in the workplace, for their own sake, and the sake of the economy, but everyone is always talking about the birth rate, and telling women to do their duty in raising the next generation." With another small giggle, King waved his hand gently in front of his face. "Although, I'm not that smart, and so maybe I'm off-base. But, it seems tough, and there's no way I could do it."
By this point, Anzu had softly bowed her head, eyes closed, comfortably enjoying the hands working over her shoulders and her upper back. "Think that's basically right, though," she murmured. She couldn't relate to everything, both due to her age and her unique girl experience, but she'd totally brushed up against a lot of what King was talking about. "Thanks for the vote of confidence, Anzu-san," King said with a smile. "And my impression is that a lot of men see their girlfriends or wives as emotional supporters, but don't really want, or don't know how, to do the same in reverse." He shrugged. "So when I think about a host club, I think... a place that puts women first?"
The fact that money changed hands and everyone was encouraged to spend complicated things, but Anzu didn't think she'd entirely disagree. Maybe it said something about the state of womanhood in this world that some women felt that literally paying to be appreciated was a good deal. "Or something like that," came King's somewhat dismissive afterthought. "Some guests like to share their interests and talk about hobbies or current events. Some want to be complimented, adored, flirted with, and reassured that they are lovely and wonderful. And, some just want a sympathetic ear who will say 'that sucks' or 'I'm so sorry' or "you didn't deserve that' at appropriate points when they talk about their day, as they might feel like no one else might."
"But I do think you're basically right, Sonia-san," Anzu added, still in a relaxed position. "Rui-kun and me are a little different, because we're in the same class and see each other a lot, but she puts a lot of work into remembering important details about her other clients, texting them, stuff like that." Often to Anzu's own mild jealousy. Then again, Rui's other regulars were probably ten times as jealous knowing Anzu got to see her almost every day, so maybe it balanced out.
#quickdeaths#Non-Despair AU: Hope's Peak Academy verse#(Sonia confirmed for worst host club attendee ever: does not flirt. does not vent. instead has basic/average conversation)#(without indulging in the good looks or personalized attention of the hosts)#(At least King is pretty eccentric)

We obviously don't have any real answers, but for idle speculation: what do you think Crow is on Venus for? I've seen people suggest Vex or Ahamkara reality-warping, but Crow doesn't seem depressed or angry enough for that.
Honestly my biggest question right now. I'll be a little unhinged in this post so bear with me.
Option 1, he wants to be isolated and it's been established that there are no authorised Vanguard operations on Venus so it's the most likely barren but available celestial body in the system. Going beyond the Reef is dangerous and the only thing left in the inner system that isn't yoinked by Darkness or occupied is Venus.
I think this is the most benign and basic explanation that makes the most sense for now until we know more. The rest under the cut:
Option 2, speaking of that same lore I linked, two other people went to Venus for an unknown reason: an unnamed Hunter (with an Eliksni friend) and Shayura. The Hunter was guided by the Eliksni to a part of Venus that didn't belong to the Ishtar Academy:
Hurrying up a shallow set of rubble-strewn steps, a short Eliksni bearing the crest of the House of Light pauses, gazing back at the chrome-armored Guardian moving up the steps behind him. The Eliksni looks the Guardian up and down, then motions to the stark silhouette of a gray concrete-block building rising up from the Venusian overgrowth.
"This ain't the academy proper," the Guardian says on ascent, watching the hazy sky for signs of danger. Moisture clings in glistening beads to his reflective mask; his dark hood shields him from the rest of the elements. "The hell was this place?"
The Eliksni tilts his head to the side, four eyes blinking independently from one another. "Not Human, don't know. But machine inside."
I'd assume that the Eliksni would know if it was a Vex structure, but he only specifies that it isn't human. He mentions "machine inside" which can refer to the Vex taking over, but the structure doesn't seem to be of Vex origin or the Eliksni and the Hunter would be able to recognise that. It's not exactly hard to notice their work.
Shayura came to Venus to find someone. We don't know who. It might be the Hunter in the lore (whom she killed), but it's never specified. The only thing specified is what her Ghost says:
"There are no sanctioned Vanguard operations on Venus at present," the Ghost clarifies, pivoting its cold blue eye up to its Guardian. "Why do you think he's down there?"
There's an implication that whoever she's looking for is known to work or has worked with the Vanguard.
I wonder if Shayura's Wrath lore is chronologically in order or not. Because if not, Crow would fit the description of who she's looking for. Worked with the Vanguard, went to Venus, is easily on Shayura's list of people to kill given his past.
But why would Crow be there in the first place? Maybe it has something to do with the structure described in Shayura's Wrath lore. Crow didn't fully leave the Vanguard, he just got reassigned to work with Lord Saladin in negotiating with Caiatl. Caiatl is hard at work fighting Xivu Arath's forces and the Hive in general. She even implied being willing to nuke the hell out of the Reef to kill Savathun, civilian casualties be damned. Thanks to Zavala, this plan was nipped in the bud.
So my question then would be what is Crow doing on Venus as a part of that assignment? What is on Venus, damn it? Oh, dunno, maybe... Hm.
:) ?
Remember, Venus became a jungle world after the Traveler terraformed it. Now, the problem with the Venus look is that the screenshots are only from D1 and those are old. But the jungle, overgrown look with a lot of foliage is there:
A better look might be from concept art:
The question here is: is Savathun's throne world located somewhere in the physical world or is the jungle around it just a part of the throne world itself and the actual location is elsewhere? I lean to the former and if she wanted to hide her throne world entrance somewhere, where better than on an abandoned world of Venus.
Furthermore, Bungie already reworked Venus for Destiny 2, due to Vault of Glass. The textures are there, the loading screen is there, orbit look and music, everything is already transferred to D2. Would be a shame to only have it exist as entry to Vault of Glass. Now, I don't think this necessarily means that the entirety of Venus will be back, but some other smaller part of it, perhaps. There's been a lot of Venus mentions lately, starting from it literally being back as a part of the raid.
For more unhinged hints: Venus is highly sulfuric, something which is mentioned in most lore about Venus, including this week's mention of Crow being there. Witch Queen Warlock armour features many references to sulfur:
"S" is the symbol for sulfur, 16 is its number in the periodic table and 32.066 is its atomic weight.
Venus is also symbolical for Savathun. Venus is the only planet named after a Goddess and all of its features are named after Goddesses, of which three appear in Destiny: Ishtar Sink, Maat Mons and Pomona Mons. Quite ironically, Maat is an Egyptian Goddess of truth and justice, while Pomona is a Roman Goddess of gardens. Ishtar (Inanna) is more or less the same as Venus mythologically, and both have very close ties to the planet itself as was observed by the ancient people, which is why the planet was named after them.
Best for last: ancient Greeks considered Venus to be two separate celestial objects because of how Venus sometimes appears early in the morning (morning star) and sometimes early in the evening (evening star). They eventually realised that it's the same object, but they continued using two words to describe it: Phosphoros and Hesperos. Its generally mostly used name was Phosphoros which means... Light-bearer. It's also where the name for the element phosphorus came from. Both phosphorus and sulfur are very much tied to alchemy, which is a huge theme for the Witch Queen. Phosphorus also precedes sulfur on the periodic table (with number 15) and was, alongside sulfur, instrumental in the alchemical search for the Philosopher's stone.
^ This symbol from the same Warlock armour refers to the Philosopher's stone: this is a symbol of philosopher's sulfur. Another related symbol also appears on the Warlock armour that relates to sulfur:
So why is Crow on Venus? Maybe he just wants a place where he can be alone in the world to process what happened. That's fair.
And maybe it's a part of the assignment to find Savathun's throne world because at this point, we all know that to kill a Hive God, they must be killed in their throne world. If the plan is to kill Savathun, and Caiatl is very much into that plan, she is probably looking for the throne world. Crow may be the one to find it. And perhaps someone else has already found it before, if we consider Shayura's Wrath lore.
Okay, I'm done being insane for today.
#destiny 2#destiny 2 spoilers#season of the lost spoilers#crow#venus#savathun#witch queen#lore vibing#long post#ask#i genuinely did not consider venus until this lore today made me go feral from overthinking it#but like. the jungle... fits#and there's no sense in her throne world entrance being on earth because it would've been found earlier#but venus? abandoned and overgrown? yeah.#or maybe i'm just completely off the mark#but weird speculation be upon ye

Chapter 2: Banter
In the moment Riddle had finished telling his brothers what conspired with their human captive, the first to speak up was Azul.
"They offered what?" His words were a mix of shock and amusement, gaze fixated on Riddle who seemed almost flustered from how red his cheeks were.
The red haired sighed, sending him a narrow eyed glare before crossing his arms.
"The head of their own brother"
"By their own hands?" Kalim asked aloud, his features scrunched up worryingly. "Isn't that bad? Why would anyone want to kill their own brother so suddenly?"
From the chaise across the room,Leona let out a scoff, lips upturned into a smirk.
"What are you? A five year old? If you give a herbivore the chance of freedom, they'd leave their entire fleet open to make sure they survive. Humans aren't so different."
"Indeed" Vil joined in with a smile of his own. "Humans are very fickle things, they live out their life struggling and as a result they stink of repulsion."
"They can barely even stand on their own.." Idia added thoughtfully and as the gazes of his brothers turned to him, the flames on his hair flickered and he looked away.
"Maybe the isolation's got to their head?"
Riddle let out a scoff, his lips upturned in a sneer almost too vicious to be formed on such a delicate looking face.
"The cottage they were in was secluded from the rest of the village, they were already a reclusive. Why should it bother them now?"
"Maybe Idia has a point" Kalim interjected then "Before they were on their own by choice...and they weren't exactly trapped in a tower either"
"It's all the same" Leona snapped " Damn herbivores will always be too fragile."
"Though, our soft-shelled brothers have a sound reason" Vil's lips curled in an effortless smile, his ever sharp gaze glinting like jewels.
"At this rate our small hare is going to die before the homage from her brother, and that makes all of this pointless."
The room went silent then. Each males having their own thoughts wrapped around the situation.
When they came to a decision to face the hunter who killed their family beast, he was nowhere to be seen and left tending to his cottage was none other than their captive human, a young sibling unaware of what their fool brother had committed. They opted it was easier to simply kidnap them and have their brother come looking since neither one of them wanted to wait around. There was also the fact that the death of the beast had affected their Mother's health greatly, and all seven brothers fumed with rage.
"Our methods doesn't matter anymore" Riddle spoke up, "What's done is done. We can't exactly just put them back where we found them."
"I agree" Azul said "Though if the human dies in our care now, when we're fully able to change their situation, I fear the price of that loss would be great."
"What? Are the humans going to chase us around with pitchforks?" Leona sneered, his sharp fangs visible as he leaned back into the chaste. "You saw how further in their cottage was, chances are the herbivore doesn't even go down to the village often enough for people to notice them missing."
"They can't die." Idia drawled the words out this time, his gaze sharp and harsh as he stared down Leona who all but grinned at his brother.
"Why? Because you like them?" The laugh that barked out from Leona was cruel and Idia flinched.
"Go ahead and save the poor herbivore then,Prince Idia of the lands of burrowed moles. You think they'd ever look at you fondly?"
"Enough." Riddle came between the fight with his own ire and before he sent a glare towards Leona, he let Idia catch the solace in his.
The situation was getting worst. They needed a decision quick.
"You're not a five year old as well,Leona, so keep that tongue of yours tamed"
"What are you? Suddenly playing the role of the Eldest when you can't even reach his height?" Leona scrutinized Riddle with an aggression that seemed ready to claw him in the face, but Riddle kept his own spite and promptly choose to ignore his brother.
Instead,he turned to Azul.
"The hunter should've came back and see his sibling gone, you even sent those eels of yours to make sure he got the hints. Why hasn't he made a single move? It's been two months."
"Maybe he's forgetful?" Kalim chipped in, eyes glowing. Riddle wanted to tap the side of his face and gently tell him to shut up but Vil patted his head instead.
"A forgetful hunter managing to kill a wild beast is unlikely, mein bruder"
Azul crossed his arms,gaze narrowing.
"They've sent word that they have information regarding our human and the whereabouts of their brother"
"And?" Vil prompted.
"I told them to come meet us as soon as they can, which shouldn't be long."
The moment those words were uttered, a dull thud came from the would-be-entrance of the tower, and a familiar voice calling out.
"My Princes! Open the door please!" The urgency of the voice had all the present Princes turning their head, though the one who seemed genuinely surprised and concerned was Kalim.
"That voice..." He said, turning to Azul "Is that who I think it is?"
Azul's lips curled into a knowing smile and with a flick of his fingers, the sound of a door being swung opened then slammed shut could be heard within the tower itself, followed by light rapid footsteps approaching them.
Out of breath and desperately panting, a young girl made a hasty bow as she came before the Princes, though the way her legs slightly trembled suggested that she was near collapsing.
"It is her!" Kalim's eyes grew wide with familiarity, the worry in his voice replaced with joy as he came up to place his hand on the girl's shoulder.
"The last time I saw you, you were still learning how to walk!" Kalim's loud voice seemed to make her flinch but the girl met his gaze with warmth before she bowed her head again.
"Pleasure to meet you again,Prince Kalim." She's heard stories of him, the Prince Fae known to give out bits of his treasures to those who come wishing at his well. It seemed odd to act as if she's known him, but she knew better than to put logic before courtesy. He was one of the seven Princes after all. Acting too smart with them was a fool's mistake.
Before Kalim could say anything else, Azul stepped forward and the girl promptly met his side with a suddenly serious demeanor.
"I'd ask you for the information I had you fetch but I wonder why you were running in the first place?"
The girl laughed dryly if not nervously.
"Floyd wanted to see who could win in a race in getting here, your Highness."
Azul frowned, internally sighing.
"Why on Earth did you agree to that?"
Again, the girl laughed. "He terrifies me,my Prince."
Riddle couldn't place where he's met her, but hearing her words had him internally sympathising her. Azul's leeches were a pair he'd gladly avoid for eternity as well.
"So,you got a changeling to be at your beck and call as well,Azul?" Vil sounded amused as he turned to Azul, but the degrading glance he gave the girl bellied the smile coyly sitting on his lips then.
"She's indebted to us anyway" Azul stated simply "Why not put her to work?"
His gaze returned to the girl.
"What do you have about our human then?"
It took a full ten minutes for the young changeling to inform them of what she's managed to compile on their human and hunter. Turns out they aren't related by blood but by marriage. Apparently most of the villagers knew of the hunter but rarely saw the younger sibling as they took more liking in staying indoors. There was also talk that their relationship with one another was never close and answered Riddle's question as to why he hadn't showed up yet.
"So, he's just going to leave his sibling at our mercy?" Kalim asked,he had his expression scrunched up with worry and pity again but Leona shared none of it and only growled with distaste.
"There won't be mercy if they're left with us a second longer"
Riddle caught the flicker of Idia's flames and instantly reacted.
"Threaten to murder our captive one more time and I'll have your head,Leona."
"Hah, you're trying to scare me,Riddle?" Leona sneered, fangs glistening with malice. He's been irritated by the whole situation since the beginning. Taking in a human in hopes that another would appear to save them, it was all a damn fairytale. Leona knew humans were selfish, his brothers should've had that piece of common sense drilled into their heads as well. No one was going to play hero for their captive.
Riddle gritted his teeth and again instead of lashing out senselessly, he swirled around to face the changeling. Every bit of his anger flaring in his grey gaze.
"Where's the hunter now?" He asked, though it sounded painfully like a death threat.
The changeling bowed her head.
"He's at the human King's palace,Prince Riddle. King Aothor ...of Nostorne"
The words sent the entire room tilting, and Riddle would've gripped her by her neck if Azul hadn't stepped forward.
"King? Since when did the humans have a King?" The last time they came to the world, their mother's shrine was built almost everywhere to acknowledge her ruling. Had times changed so drastically since their absence?
"Yes. It's been this way for years now. A dukedom raised after Her Most Divine's departure from the human realm and ever since then a lineage of human nobles have taken the throne as the Human ruler."
"My, how futuristic, and here we were in the guise that we still sat on the top of their world" Vil was laughing but his words cut into the tension of the room like a blade coated in venom and the changeling girl shifted uncomfortably.
"It seems like the order of the slaughtering was made by him and ultimately fulfilled by the hunter. His name is Cyril and he's being celebrated by the King for his bravery."
Leona heaved a heavy sigh, leaning once more into his chaise. He looked ready to fall into a deep slumber already but his irritation kept him awake.
"So,we have information. Now what's the plan?"
***
Jade and Floyd, two of Azul's trusted companions came into the situation while the Princes were sorting out their thoughts and opinions (Which all greatly contradict one another) and brought word that their hunter had refused to save their sibling in a conversation Jade overheard him had with another hunter right before he was called on by the King.
"He said he knew of the Fae's trick and that by taking something of theirs as his own, he'd gladly give anything they took from him as compensation." Jade explained in his usual matter-of-fact tone, his mismatched gaze still and knowing.
Riddle clicked his tongue, brows furrowing. Idia's was the most sympathetic along with Kalim while Leona and Vil seemed ready to send a fleet of their army to storm into the human villages.
"I'm not really surprised though" Floyd spoke up lazily "He seems like a guy who'd do that kind of thing anyways"
"But now the Princes are stuck with keeping a human captive in their care", Boe,the young changeling from earlier, pointed out grimly.
"What if we sent you to negotiate with him in our stead?" Idia suggested which earned a rather hasty look from the girl.
"Human royals don't take too kindly to my kind,Prince Idia. I doubt he'd even let me enter"
Leona let out a menacing growl. One that reverberated through the tower walls.
"This is going nowhere. Riddle, go up to that damn herbivore and have them beg their brother come and pay his homage so we can give them back."
Riddle frowned.
"You heard the changeling,Leona. If their relationship with their brother is as bad as we've heard, do you really think they'd beg for him to come save them?"
"Couldn't you talk some sense in them?" Azul had eyes turning once more to the young changeling who all but reluctantly slumped her shoulders.
"I don't see how me being the one talking will get them to cooperate..."
"Clamshell, you should at least try, right?" Floyd's smile was sickly sweet and when he attempted to sling his arm over her shoulders, she avoided the outcome by shifting close to Jade.
"What would you want me to say to them?"
"The offer they gave" Riddle said "Have them elaborate more on that. I'm not going into a deal without knowing why it was proposed in the first place."
There was hesitation in her eyes but it was swiftly changed to a silent resolve as she nodded her head.
"I'll see what I can do."
