The take that anon showed has nothing to do with Coppola actually, it's a very popular take in Academia, in fact. Because they interpret that his being tempted but also resisting and hating the three sisters means that he is afraid and repulsed of empowered and sexual women, and only wants a good virginal waif (Mina) like it's proper, thus representing the Victorian repressed man.

I know, I was just using Francis as shorthand for the whole thing. I've spewed whole essays of more in-depth bile about the phenomenon elsewhere, and probably could have gone into another ramble there as much as here, but like

I Really Am Tired

I'll probably have more in-depth/excessive jokey-to-Dead Serious ranting to throw down on the topic(s) another time, but I'm burned out and busy and just kind of sick of seeing/hearing about shitty takes on the book and its characters for right now.

#I think it's all more frustrating to see happening in the present than to just look back on all the crap of yesteryear #Dracula Daily has happened and a wealth of mass-realization has woken up so many old/new fans #and then to have some trolls and fools and actual professionals smearing their rancid regurgitated takes in everyone's faces is just...#so much #SO much.#like kids in middle school who either BS'd their reports off a wiki page or adlibbing or are trying to be Edgy for the attention #and while I was willing to chew out a couple #trying to unscrew that many heads out of that many asses when they're clearly so happy to be lodged up there #is not worth my time and effort #not right now #so yeah #open call to my anon buddies to maybe keep the fresh Look at These Idiots fodder for a rainy day #or pass it to someone with more steam in their Rant Engines #I'm out #anyway #rant and ramble
