i think referring to being a refugee as “illegal immigration” is insane. people from iraq escaping on a boat aren’t “illegal immigrants”, they’re literally risking their entire lives and in the first case she shared on this post it’s literally about dozens of them dying bc they were on a sinking boat. the people on that boat, those who survived and those who died, were probably all heavily traumatised and trying to escape extreme circumstances. that’s called being a refugee. the perpetrator in the original post is horrible & deserves punishment, i hope he does not get away with it, but to then use this case of dozens of refugees dying while escaping on a boat as a call against illegal immigration is insane! you are actively using rhetoric that demonises the women escaping too. you are actively downplaying the circumstances women escaping have to endure when you argue this is a case of “illegal immigrants” intentionally destroying their documents bc apparently being a refugee is very easy and doesn’t include a harsh investigative process and living years with limited rights.
they constantly speak of islam and europe as two opposites but there are muslim european countries. y’all constantly slip up while you argue it’s not about race bc you then treat being muslim as being inherently incompatible with europe & europeans meaning you’re not referring to islam which already has existed for a very long time in europe (eg: kosovo, albania, bosnia) but race. fgm is not muslim-specific either bc it’s practiced frequently by christian groups as well, and maybe even groups that are neither christian nor muslim, its more cultural than religious and present all over africa & in some parts of asia. honour killings are a problem especially when they are justified under various systems but let’s not pretend a man killing a female loved one is limited to muslims either. arranged marriage is not a necessarily muslim tradition either nor region-locked, it’s most common in india where 80% of locals are hindu.
if u want to talk about high femicide rates, u will also find this is a global issue without a specific race or religion you can point to
of course when you group misogyny from various parts of the world you deem “other” into one, you can argue these are the most dangerous people possible and they should be left to die instead of being given refugee status. you took misogyny prevalent in india and grouped it with misogyny prevalent in somalia and grouped it with misogyny prevalent in pakistan and grouped it with misogyny prevalent in el salvador with misogyny prevalent in iraq etc and pretended they represent some sort of racial/cultural/religious inferiority. it would make no sense for me to claim that europe has a massive femicide problem based on it being an issue in russia, but yall regularly do this when referring to the experiences of brown & black women.
this is why i don’t believe the throwaway “i feel so bad for 3rd world women” comment you made bc how can you actually pretend to care for any of us? you used a iraqi girl being raped & murdered while on a sinking refugee boat as an argument for why iraqi refugees, like her, should be left to die. you used struggles of women in countries all over the world and pretended it accurately reflected a coherent specific group of people, indicating you probably don’t even read into the struggles of women from “3rd world countries” bc you can’t even accurately differentiate our experiences. especially when you are reframing the women escaping said countries as “illegal immigrants”
very disturbing racist responses to a horrific story about a iraqi girl being raped.
here’s hoping he gets the worst sentence possible. it’s a shame that his wife & daughter died instead of him.
#mandyfem#also fgm to my knowledge is not particularly common in iraq….#it’s much more common in eritrea where 70% are christian#im all for violent males being punished accordingly. but im tired of the not-so-subtle attempts of racialising their violence & misogyny#and then pretending ur doing this out of care for woc. at least those of u who admitted ur worried bc u prioritise white women were being#more honest about it. but this 'omg poor 3rd world women' followed by various rhetoric demonising us and misrepresenting our realities?
