surana will really say “alistair is my brother. i will save redcliffe for him. i will return to the circle so we can save connor for him. he is fundamentally a better person than me. he should be the hero but i can’t let him do that because he will die.” and mean every word and then recruit loghain anyway because she hates him too much to let him die either and then arrange a marriage nobody is actually happy with and a postgame world where the queen of ferelden has to sit between them at several excruciating state dinners
#this surana is like. she is a force. her flaws make her better#the great landsmeet breakup of 9:31 dragon#is inevitable from the moment they come into contact. she has idealized alistair to the point that she's like welp i guess he's king#but everything about their friendship is building to this: surana is always in a tower. she can't be part of the same world#she sees alistair as a storybook character first and a person second#meanwhile i know i've said it before but like he RIGHTFULLY feels betrayed#that endgame convo after you kill the archdemon where he says 'i don't think we have anything left to say to each other' is SO MUCH#and then he's gonna have to SEE HER in the COURTYARD in AMARANTHINE!!!!!!#anna's fic notes#i truly have origins brain so bad lately i really wanna finish this zevwarden fic so that i can then write this anora/surana thing

looks like y’all are just gonna have to deal with my ramblings front and center
under the cut for length orz
I love the idea of Kira and Zevran visiting Highever in the months between the end of the Blight and the beginning of Awakening, and Fergus just being--very confused. Not only because his sister has brought home an Antivan elf, of all people, but also because he’d recently heard through the grapevine that Zevran was an ex-Antivan Crow hired to literally kill his sister.
And, you know, Gilmore is alive and there as well to help Fergus settle in and Fergus had thought Kira liked Gilmore. He’d thought she wanted to marry him--hell, he’d thought they were already together before the Blight even started. He thought Gilmore was good for her, that he’d make her a fine husband and she’d be as happy as he’d been with Oriana.
But then he sees the way Kira is with Zevran, and he realizes that she’d never really been happy with Gilmore, or even with the idea of marrying Gilmore.
He hears her laughter echoing across the courtyard every day that she’s there; sees the way she slips her hand into his as they walk down the hall; sees her brush his hair from his face as they murmur to each other over dinner; watches them dance in the rain once, foreheads pressed together as they laugh like teenagers in love. Kira’s eyes are bright when she’s with him--brighter than Fergus can really ever remember seeing them.
She’s a new person with him.
And that’s what really lets Fergus relax--that and the way Zevran looks at Kira when she’s not looking at him. Whatever had happened to bring them so close during the Blight, what they have is real, and that’s enough for him.
“I like him for you,” he tells her on the night before she’s to leave to return to Denerim. Standing in front of their parents’ memorial, he slides his hands into his pockets and smiles as he adds, “And they would have liked him, too.”
“Maybe,” she agrees. “If they’d have been able to make it past the ears. The Antivan bit wouldn’t have bothered them, all things considered, but Maker--the ears.”
He laughs, and she does, too, even if the sound is a little watery. He wraps an arm around her shoulder and she wraps hers around his waist as he sighs. “Take care of each other, and make sure to write me when you get to Amaranthine, alright?”
Her giggle his muffled, but she nods. “Yes, Brother.”
