Some people think I go too easy on Ian's writing for Sonic. They think I'm biased. Well, no more! Here it is. Here's my big complaint with Ian's writing. Time for me to really tear into this motherfucker!!! Are you ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think he's been playing up Tails liking mint candy too much

It was kind of a cute detail when it first started popping up, like oh hey here's this obscure trivia factoid that's been mostly forgotten. Tails can have his favorite snack, like how Sonic famously loves chili dogs. Sure! Let's bring that back. But now it feels like there's a quota that has to be met for every Tails appearance. He always has to mention liking mint candy, or mint flavored things. Same with Knuckles and grapes. They're always bringing these up now! It's like we get it! We remember the trivia factoid! They can eat more than one thing, you know!

I'm being partially facetious, but this is kind of a pet peeve of mine. People have been half-joking for years about how you can never let a character say they like a food because the fandom will make that their entire personality, and I've always just found that mildly annoying. I also just think at times Ian can be a little too eager to put the Sonic minutia he knows on display as a fan, even after 17+ years of working on the franchise as a professional. Which tends to be fine 99% of the time - Amy's tarot reading finally coming back is great, for example - but sometimes it's like okay, reign it in a little buddy, you don't gotta prove your Sonic nerd credentials at this point
