[end of the year book asks]
9. A book that was better than you expected it to be
Probably Maj Sjöwall's & Per Wahlöö's Der Polizistenmörder/Polismördaren. Was recommended to me by someone on ff.de, and while it was a little... unusual, it sure dealt with The Police in an interesting and still shockingly relevant way.
13. The funniest book you read this year
Either Kevin Hearne's Überfallen/Besieged or Ben Aaronovitch's Der Oktobermann/The October Man. I don't read many "funny" books, but those have a great humor.
14. A book that made you cry
Luke Arnold's Dead Man in a Ditch. It takes A Lot to make me cry, especially while reading, but I just bawled my eyes out during the last dozen pages.
30. Did you reread anything?
Jup. I reread Otfried Preussler's Krabat, Isabel Abedi's Isola, Asp Spreng's Der Fluch, like half of Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware novels and of course Anne Stuart's Still Lake.
39. Five books you absolutely want to read next year?
Technically just answered that, but I have more than enough books on my list, so you're getting another five:
Ocean Vuong: On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
Jennifer Giesbrecht: The Monster of Elendhaven
Harper Lee: To Kill a Mockingbird
Jonathan L. Howard: Johannes Cabal Seelenfänger (Johannes Cabal the Necromancer)
Pauline Réage: Geschichte der O (Histoire d‘O)
