ngl i think the worst part about this year's world series is the unreasonably toxic and aggressive discourse about whether or not both teams actually deserve to be there and how nobody besides yankees fans, dodgers fans and the mlb themselves actually wanted this world series.
#also the toxic yankees and dodgers fans but let's be real toxic fans are a given no matter who made it#“im not watching this year” then... don't watch?#i don't like the yankees and i'm overall indifferent to the dodgers (although ohtani is very fun to watch)#and while i agree the mlb is greedy as hell and oh so wanted this matchup#i feel like outrage is just... dumb?#it's just a game#and besides you really think a mets-yankees world series would've been better?#or another astros-dodgers world series?#mlb#baseball#new york yankees#los angeles dodgers#like seriously#yall need to chill. the world isn't going to end. i promise.

Warming Up - CC
Pairing: Caitlin Clark x Reader
Hesitation
Summary: Part 2 to the Hesitation series...you're welcome. You finally let Caitlin take you out on that date but it just so happens to be in New York...
Warnings: Caitlin being cute with Carson, Caitlin being in love with you - all the norms
Word Count: 3k
Sweetbans Masterlist
AN: I have heard the demand and I am offering you a MINI series. With that being said, it will be 3 parts with several blurbs attached. Also i'm using current events but in the future.
"I still don't know about this," you say as you board the small charter plane. The slow you wanted seemed to be moving very fast as the first date that Caitlin asked you out on was a trip to New York.
To be fair, you had hesitated a lot when she asked you initially. That is how Caitlin knew if she did all the right things, you and Carson would be joining her on this trip. If you had shut it down hard, she wouldn't have pushed as hard as she had.
"Too late Mommy!" Carson yells as he runs into the plan and takes the first seat he sees. It swallows him up and you can't help but smile.
You have taken Carson on several trips before, a luxury you grew up with and wanted to make sure Carson was also able to experience. But traveling in a private charter was something you would have never expected to be able to do.
"You don't have to know about this, I got it," Caitlin says as she places her hand on your lower back to guide you to the seat behind Carson. You watch as one of the attendants swivels Carson's chair to face you. You smile when you see how Carson's face lit up when he realized he would be sitting backwards.
Caitlin can see how your body eases when you see Carson's excitement. She wants to reach over and hold your hand but decides against it. She has been wanting to touch you since that night on your porch.
The trip to New York wasn't all for fun, Caitlin knew she had some business to take care of but knew that it would be 100x better than if she were doing it alone. When Caitlin found out that she was asked to make an appearance at the Yankee's double header is what sparked her to ask you and Carson to join. It helped when she had learned that Carson was a Yankee's fan and you had a hard time saying no to Carson.
The plane ride is short and the three of you color and play games. When you land in New York, you all head to the hotel. Caitlin made sure that there was a second room for you and Carson, right next to hers of course. Even went to the extent of making sure there was a door connecting the rooms, not that Caitlin was expecting anything to happen.
You and Carson part ways with Caitlin and head into your room. You put all your stuff down and watch as Carson runs to the curtains to see the view. You sit on the bed and Cason runs up to you.
"This is the best trip we have ever been on," Carson says.
"Ya? Better than going to California last summer?" You ask reminding him of the beaches he begged to go back to for weeks after getting back from the trip.
"Ya!" He says with pure excitement.
"Hey Carson," you say as you bring him to sit on the bed with you. "I need you to tell me something okay?"
He settles down and looks at you.
"Are you okay if Caitlin starts coming around more often?" You ask Carson.
"More Clarky?" Carson asks thinking about it for a second.
"Ya, what do you think about that?" You ask.
"I like Clarky!" He says with a smile. "More Clarky."
"I like Clarky too," you say and hug your little boy.
"Does that mean we can go on more adventures with Clarky?" Carson asks.
"It's a possibility," you say and fix his hair.
He nods and runs to the connecting door giving it a small knock. After a few moments, the door opens and Carson is met by Caitlin.
"Hey Little Man!" She says. Carson immediately hugs her legs.
"More Clarky!" He says and Caitlin laughs.
"Are you guys hungry? I was thinking we could go out to do some exploring," Caitlin says and Carson yells 'yes' while Caitlin looks up at you and you give her a smiling nod.
The three of you go out and find a small little local spot to eat. The time is sweet and fun. Caitlin spoils Carson to treats which earns a scold from you but she doesn't care, she thinks it's almost cuter than Carson. The night ends with Carson falling asleep on the ride back. You carry him up to your room and Caitlin asks if you wanted to come to hers to hang out.
"I don't know," you say standing in the doorframe between her room and yours.
"What is the worst that could happen?" Caitlin asks with a little smile.
"Well I can think of a few things," you say.
"What if I promise to stay on my side of the bed," she asks and you ponder the idea.
"Okay, I will come in if you stay on your side of the bed," you say as you follow her in. She does as she says and sits on one side of the bed. You sit on the other side.
"So how would you feel about me taking you out tomorrow after the game?" Caitlin asks.
"What about Carson?" You ask.
"I have a sitter lined up and it is one that I know is trusted," she says.
You sit there and think about it. Caitlin doesn't rush you.
"Okay," you say not caring to elaborate more.
"Okay?" She asks trying to calm her excitement.
"Okay," you say again. "What did you have in mind?"
"Well it's a surprise," she says with a smug smile.
You raise your eyebrow at her.
"You are just going to have to wait and see," she says proud of herself.
You nod respecting her decision to not tell you. You don't push it but have another idea in mind. As the two of you continue to talk, you slowly slide closer to her.
Slowly leaning in, you stop right before your lips connect with hers. She leans in trying to meet you but your hand on her chest holds her in place.
"Nuh-uh," you say. "What do you have planned for our date?" Your eyes are on her lips as you speak causing Caitlin's breath to shallow.
"I told you, it's a surprise," she says with a gulp, her eyes also looking down at your lips.
"Just tell me a little," you says as you place a soft kiss on her jawline, then another one on the top of her neck. She moans at the feeling of your lips on her skin.
Caitlin is lost in the feeling of you and doesn't respond. One of her hands finds your waist while the other settles on your arm.
"Tell me Cait," you whisper into her ear as you gently suck on her earlobe. She lets out a whimper and tries to get any sort of coherent thought out.
"Dinner," she says. Her eyes closed as all her other senses heighten at your touch. You drive her wild.
"Just dinner?" You ask sweetly as you move over her and straddle her. Both of her hands have been dying to feel the skin under your shirt again, she takes no time moving them there. Your bring your hands so her wrists as you guide her hands up and down your torso.
"Gonna spoil you," she gets out. Your lips are putting in work on her neck. Occasionally drifting down to her collar bone and sucking a little harder. "Get you anything you want."
You smile against her skin. Your lips still haven't touched hers yet and if you had it your way, they wouldn't.
You slowly crawl down her, leaving a trail of kisses over her shirt but all down her body until you are at the edge of the bed. You stand and make your way to the connecting door before looking back at her. Her hungry eyes, dilated pupils and breaths uneven.
You had played her. Teased the answer right out of her and she just let you.
"You are going to be the death of me," she says as she moves to get up and follow you but you put your hand up.
"Not my fault you are so easily swayed," you say and Caitlin completely ignores your hand. She makes her way to you, her hands coming to cup your face.
She looks into your eyes and the shine with something more than just lust. Before you can say anything she is crashing her lips into yours earning a moan from you which only wants her to keep you there longer.
After giving in to Caitlin, you finally push her away. Both of you needing the air being sucking into your lungs.
"I need to change up our date now," she says, her hand cupping your face still.
"You don't," you say. "I like what you have planned."
"Nope, you know now so I have to make it even better," she says. She leans down to give you a quick little peck then separates herself from you. She knows if she were to do anything more, you wouldn't be heading back to your room.
"Whatever you say," you say with a smile. "Goodnight Caitlin."
"Goodnight," she says to you before you close the door.
The next day is a busy one but none of you would have it any other way. You are currently at the Yankee's game where Caitlin's team has set up her to be on the field and meet some of the team. She made sure the arrangements included you and Carson.
When you first got there, you were all greeted and handed badges. Carson's hung low which Caitlin helped fix, warming your heart. The three of you headed to the field and Caitlin was greeted with fans. She signed some autographs while Carson was greeted by some of the players who were finishing their warm up. It was really sweet to watch.
Caitlin comes back over to the two of you and hands Carson a baseball. You stand and watch as the two of them play catch. As you do, you can't help but think about the 'what if's'. You think about how this could be a normal for the three of you. Not necessarily going to baseball games but watching Caitlin and Carson playing catch.
"Mommy! Watch this," Carson yells as he sets up to throw the ball to Caitlin. He throws it perfectly to Caitlin and turns to see your reaction with a wide smile on his face.
"That was great baby," you say with a smile.
The three of you head to your seats after spending some time on the field.
"Mommy, I'm hungry," Carson says while he adjusts himself in his seat.
"Okay sweetie, let's go check out the concession stand," you say.
"Can I take him?" Caitlin asks.
"Clarky!" Carson yells with excitement.
"Are you sure?" You ask, hesitant letting them go without you.
"I wanna go with Clarky," Carson says already out of his seat and holding Caitlin's hand.
"I got him," she says. She can see your hesitation. "But if you would like to join, you are always welcome."
"No, you two can go. Just bring me back some nachos," you say and look at Carson.
"You do not leave Caitlin's side okay?" You tell Carson and he nods. He begins pulling Cait from their seats and up the stairs. It makes you more comfortable when you see Caitlin's security follow them.
You sit and wait for them to come back, when they do - Carson is holding a hot dog while Caitlin looks to have 5 things in hers. She has two drinks, two hot dogs and your nachos.
"What did you guys clean them out?" You joke at them and Carson says no with a laugh.
The three of you snack and watch the game, Carson having the time of his life. When the game is over, the three of you decide to grab some ice cream and then head back to the hotel. When you get back, you are surprised with who is already in her room.
"Hi mom," Caitlin says as she goes to hug her.
"Hi baby, it's good to see you," she says.
Caitlin turns to you and introduces you to her mom.
"Hi there," you say with a smile and she pulls you in for a hug.
"Oh it is so good to meet you," she says giving you a nice squeeze.
"You as well," Anne says. "I have been looking forward to meeting you for weeks."
You turn to look at Caitlin because you only confirmed a week ago that you and Carson would be joining her on this trip. Cait just smiles and shrugs.
"And you must be Carson," Anne says as she crouches down to shake his hand. He is hiding behind your legs but reaches out his hand to shake hers.
"Carson," you begin but Anne waves to you signaling it is okay. She turns to look at Carson.
"I am Caitlin's mom," Anne says and Carson peaks his head out.
"Clarky's mom?" He says softly. Anne nods and smiles.
"You want to know what Caitlin loved when she was your age?" Anne asks and Carson nods. "Chocolate chip cookies."
Carson's eyes light up," I love chocolate chip cookies!" He is now fully out from behind you and is following Anne to the half kitchen in Caitlin's room.
Caitlin nods over to your room and you follow her over. Once the two of you are alone, you turn to her.
"Weeks?" You ask her. She shrugs like she did the first time you looked at her on the matter.
"I've been planning this for longer than you know," she says.
"You're unbelievable," you say. "And your mother??? It would have been nice to know. I didn't now we were in the meet the parents stage."
"She has been asking to meet you ever since she saw pictures of me bringing Carson on the floor," Caitlin says.
You shake your head.
"It isn't a big deal," she says. But in your mind it is.
"But it is," you say. "Going on trips, meeting parents - this all seems really fast."
Caitlin can see how stressed this has made you. She kneels down in front of where you were now sitting on your bed and brings your hands into hers.
"I'm sorry," she says and you sigh. "I told you that we will take this slow and I know these last few weeks have been fast. But I have no intention of going anywhere. This weekend is suppose to be fun and I believe it still can be. I asked my mom to come out because I know knew you wouldn't want to leave Carson with just anyone so I brought out the best. I wouldn't have brought her out if I wasn't serious about you. Us."
You look into Caitlin's eyes and can see the sincerity. You lean your forehead on hers, eyes closed.
"You are unbelievable," you say for the second time but in a completely different tone causing Caitlin to smile.
"You should get ready, we need to be out of here in 20," Caitlin says as she parts from you.
You get ready and tell Anne everything she needs to know about putting Carson down. She repeats everything back to you perfectly and Carson is too entertained by the chocolate chips to be phased by you leaving. You kiss his head and he waves.
Once Caitlin has you out the door, she can't stop smiling.
"What?" You say with a smile of your own.
"Just excited to have you all to myself," she says.
First Caitlin takes you to a cute little Italian restaurant where the two of you talked over dinner. Dinner is followed by an evening walk through the park. You expect the night to be done but she has one more place she is taking you before back to where you are staying.
You yawn trying to not get too sleepy.
"We are almost there," Caitlin says as the car pulls up to the final stop.
You both exit and you look up. Caitlin stands next to you holding your hand and looks at you.
"Of course," you say.
Caitlin smiles.
"This is nice but I don't think it is open," you say and Caitlin leads you to the door.
Right as you approach the door, it opens and you are greeted by an older man.
"Ms. Clark and company, welcome to the Empire State Building," the man says. Your excitement is now visible on your face as the man leads you over to the elevator.
The three of you head up. Once reaching the 82nd floor, you were ready to make your way out but the doors just open and close and you continue up to the 102nd floor.
You step out and are in awe. Caitlin watches you as you step out and take in the sight before you. You aren't huge on big cities but seeing New York from this vantage point had anyone falling in love with it.
Caitlin lets you look around before coming behind you and wrapping her arms around you.
"I don't know how you are going to top this when we get back to Indy," you say as your hands come to rest on her arms.
"Does that mean there will be a second date," she teases.
"Only if you want," you respond, too in awe of the sight still to care about Caitlin's sass.
"It's the only thing I want," she says softly in your ear. You smile.
"I'm sorry for going at you earlier. You didn't deserve that," you say.
"No no no, don't apologize," she says.
You lean back into Caitlin, loving the feeling of being held by her. You turn to face her.
"i think I like you," you say smiling.
"Ya?" Caitlin says softly, bringing her hand to come up to tuck your hair behind your ear.
You nod and lean in to kiss her.
AN: You series is here. Let me know what you think about this second part! And as always, thank you for your love and support 🤍

Thinking a bit about baseball and how it runs in my family so thoroughly on both sides.
My dad's father was such a good amateur third baseman that he was scouted by the Yankees. We have a letter from the team inviting him to tryouts. But he'd just started a family at the time and the Minor League life is rough, and it was rougher still in the 1950s, so he remained an amateur player who nevertheless had a deep love of the game. He apparently met and played with Willie Mays during the Korean War when he was stationed stateside. He got Mays to etch his name on the strap of his helmet. We still have that, too.
(Image description: the author's paternal grandfather in a right-handed batting stance.)
On my mom's side things were entertaining. My mom's grandfather was a New York (later SF) Giants fan. He and his wife had three children, who they raised in the Bronx. The oldest, my grandmother, was a Giants fan like him. The middle child, my great-aunt, decided she had to be different and adopted the Brooklyn Dodgers. The youngest child, my great-uncle, furthered that and became a Yankees fan.
Allegedly, according to my great-aunt, my great-grandfather predicted the Giants, then behind, would win the National League pennant in 1951. She was incredulous because at the time the Dodgers were well in first place. Until they weren't.

[Video description: Giants third baseman Bobby Thomson clobbers a 3-run homer off of Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca to win the 1951 National League pennant. This moment is known as The Shot Heard Round The World and the radio call only survives because a fan was at work during the game and had his mom record it off the radio for him.]
This family arrangement continued for a few more years until the Dodgers and Giants left for California in the late 1950s, and the National League members of the family drifted until 1962, when the Mets started playing. My grandmother and great-aunt both picked them up immediately and it's been that way on my mom's side ever since - the people descended from my grandmother and great-aunt are Mets fans, and the people descended from my great-uncle are Yankees fans.
[Image description: the man who somehow knew the Giants would win the 1951 pennant carrying his firstborn child, my grandmother, on his back on all fours, likely in 1932.]
Grandma Dot was a deeply passionate Mets fan and passed that trait to her daughter, who at one point had a huge baseball card collection and knew the Mets's stats better than all the boys in her school. My mom experienced her first World Series win at the age of 10 in 1969 and from there she would be loyal forever. She and my dad were married a few days after the Mets's second World Series win in 1986 and my younger brother and I would be raised on stories of that team during our early years.
[Image description: the author and her brother photographed from the back at Citi Field. The author is wearing a Gary Carter jersey and her brother is wearing a Mookie Wilson jersey.]
Although I get baseball from both sides of my family, the intense passion for National League baseball in New York has been passed down matrilineally, from my grandmother to my mother to me, and I cherish that deeply. I'm the culmination of three generations of baseball-loving women and I think that's actually really cool.
I'm mostly writing this because I don't quite want to let this Mets team go yet. They were so much fun this year and I already miss them so much, and they took us so much farther than anyone expected. 2024 wasn't our year, but it was one hell of a year and I love this cast of characters a lot.
This World Series would have divided my grandmother's family in the 1950s. Not so much today, since the Mets aren't there, but the Dodgers and Yankees haven't played in the WS against each other since 1981, and before their move to LA the Dodgers and Yankees met a few times in the 1950s. I wonder what my grandmother's siblings talked about, or if they trash talked each other, or if they gathered around the radio together for the play by play.
I just love how much this sport is literally in my blood.

2, 9, and 14 for the music ask!
i’m so sorry to hear you’re ill with covid 💔 i’m thinking of you and sending all the healing vibes your way! look after yourself 💖
Oooh good questions!
2) One band I always come back to: Wilco. Wilco not only made one of my favorite albums of all time, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but have played with so many genres. If you are a lyrics person (like me), you'll find songs for every mood. And like my other fav, Arctic Monkeys, they still make good music decades after forming and are amazing live. In my opinion Jeff Tweedy is America's George Harrison. My "get to know Wilco" playlist is below!
9: Favorite concert: Pulp in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom this month. Their first show of the US tour and omg: the fans were amazing, the band was tight, Jarvis Cocker was at his wiggly, seductive best, and the joy in the room was palpable. We danced so hard the floor was bouncing. I thought I'd never see Pulp since I got into the band in 2013...a year after they played their goodbye show. Highly recommend watching Pulp: A Film about Life Death, and Supermarkets.
14: Have you met any of your favorite bands? No, and I'm so shy I don't know if I could handle it without being a blushing mess. 🤭

A poem by Brian Brodeur
THE CARPENTER'S TALE
There's going to be an accounting. And it'll be the weird stats that come out of somewhere. And this is one of the stranger ones.
—Kerry Breen, This American Life, 8/13/2021
Most of us laughed at being called "essential" in those first weeks of New York's quarantine. We'd grease a hinge or patch a rotten sill,
replacing sunk beams under a snack machine, painting classrooms. Though it felt like cheating, I'd never seen the schools look so pristine.
Then, in April, at our team meeting, our boss clears his throat and his voice softens. Putting down the cruller he's been eating,
he says, "Next week, we start building coffins." One of us laughs. Another spills his coffee. I tell my boss, "Get out of here. Build coffins."
He looks up from his clipboard and glares at me, then gives us all the plans his boss gave him: "We'll be building coffins for the city."
On Monday, I show up at this school gym outfitted as a shop. On cinderblocks, beside the bleachers with the lights turned dim,
our prototype: a six-foot plywood box standing on its end where the feet would be. Above the prototype and scoreboard clocks,
a championship banner's "Victory" had begun to sag where flags of UN nations cling to the ceiling. Under Germany,
we set up cutting and assembly stations, a place where we can urethane the boards. Electricians rig fans for ventilation
and 10 of us plug in extension cords. We stack up drafts of plywood on the floor— a draft is 50 sheets. Our only words
concern the lack of Mets and Yankees scores, how hot the gym gets, who brought Gatorade. We run through 2x4s and they bring more—
wash, rinse, repeat. I mean, we're getting paid, but after so long it occurs to me: My god, they really need this many made?
No one gives us an end. We build 150, stacking them from one side of the gym to the other, five coffins high—no one can see
above the shrink-wrapped freight pallets of them. I back the forklift into the elevator and drive down Concourse near the stadium
and down another street to a tractor trailer. The forklift's so slow people honk at me. Honk at a guy carrying coffins—or
scream at me to move. This goes on three weeks. I find it—I don't know—bizarre, I guess, not one person ever stops to ask me
what I'm doing, everyone obsessed with toilet paper. Then, passing on foot, a guy who speaks Spanish stops to zip his vest
and says, "Morte," finger-slicing his throat. "Sí," I say, and he just shakes his head and walks away. I slam the trailer shut.
Our team built 450 in the end, and there were other teams in other districts across the whole Department of Ed.
No one I tell has ever heard of this. Why would they? Not exactly good PR— Guess what we used schools for. You'll never guess. …
But now that things are waning, more and more I feel alright, like I can let it out. It wasn't war—if it had been a war
we'd know what happened, what it was about, how much we'd lost, what people did out there. I'm sure someone will make a final count,
and we'll deal with each last expenditure, but that's years off, and this is not a war.

re: salary cap vs no salary cap leagues and fairness. as a hockey fan that migrated from baseball it was sooo crazy 2 me how the nhl works in such a cyclical way with every team theoretically getting their times to shine given good management and luck. like i dont think people who don't follow any non-salary cap leagues get how much it changes. the the rebuild-contender cycle just doesn't exist in the same way in a league like the mlb. like at all. if your team is rich and managerially competent enough it can and will be good indefinitely. likeeee. good and bad it does SO much that people dont even realize it's so fascinating to me
yes!!! as someone who also did something similar (with kind of a gap tho like. baseball -> the darkness -> hockey) it's... so different. albeit hockey didn't use to have a salary cap so you did see situations close to it (eg. the canadiens and their 24 cups) but now with it there's a lot more parity, especially because of how random the sport is (iirc basketball also has a cap, but bc of the way superstars can more easily influence games and also the general "It's Really Complicated" nature of the nba cap)(i'm not a basketwatcher don't @ me)(actually please do i'd love to know).
honestly i really like the hockey version because of the Endless Cycle nature of it. suits my timeloop narrative. not that there isn't value in baseball and its lack of cap legislation nonetheless -- there's enough randomness so we don't have to put up with the Dodgers and Yankees completely sweeping the boards (and there's always good old Mets-style curses/incompetence!) and from it we literally got Moneyball and the rapid advancement of sports analytics -- but it's just. less frustrating. to know that a star free agent isn't destined for one of two teams.
(even if one of those two teams would be mine.)

i don't know anything about sports but i love your liveblogs and fully support you. hope the yankees lose ❤️
I love this and thank you!
I follow 3 sports teams, and right now only 2 are good: the Mets who had a wonderful, whimsical, magical run to the playoffs after being dogshit for the 1st 3 months of the season lol, and the Rangers who are also kicking ass right now.
The New York Jets...we just don't talk about them because they have missed the playoffs for 13 consecutive years and it looks like it's gonna become 14. I have no hope for them.
I'm happy you found the ranting and raving of a crazy New York sports fan entertaining :) (As someone who works in the Bronx if the Yankees win, it will be unbearable.)
#personal#i get very intense about sports but I also don't let it ruin me#rooting for bad teams just makes you stronger lol

Ahah! My mom is a Yankees fan. She's very graciously letting my sister and I watch this one close out before switching over to the Yankees game.
Like, I talk a lot of shit about the Mets (elsewhere, I don't do a lot of baseball blogging her), but they do okay sometimes lmaoo. Legit, much love to all my Philly friends but hey, we all know how the rivalry is 🔪🔪

Today's compilation:
Baseball's Greatest Hits 1989 Novelty / Swing / Pop / Jazz / Comedy / Folk / Singer-Songwriter
Well, folks, I gotta say that baseball and I really aren't on the greatest of terms right now. See, my Mets are currently in the fight of their life for a playoff wild card spot, and their MVP-caliber shortstop, Francisco Lindor, who prides himself on playing every day, is now nursing a back injury, and we don't yet know the severity of it, because as I'm currently writing this, me and this entire fanbase are awaiting the results of a very important MRI. And as a diehard Mets fan whose only really been raised on baseball heartbreak, I've been conditioned to only expect bad news at this point, knowing full well that even if his injury is minor and he's only out for a few games, that his absence at this highly critical point in the season has a pretty good chance of causing this club to miss the playoffs by a mere inch, even though they've been pretty much the best team in the league since Memorial Day, with a starting pitching staff that was not expected to be very good, but has somehow miraculously developed itself into the best one in the game, despite ace Kodai Senga only making a single appearance all season due to multiple injuries.
But even though I really don't wanna think too much about baseball right now (hah!), we still push on, because like it or not, this novelty album of baseball songs from Rhino Records—the first of its kind, they allege—happens to be the next album in my queue, and so here I am, regardless of my own mood and how I'm currently trying to cope in this moment, ready to write, objectively 😥.
So, first of all, and above all else, this is a fun album. Little of it consists of music that I would consider to be *good*, but that's not really the point of an album like this in the first place; we're here for goofy novelty, and boy, do we have a whole lot of it, from swingin' and showtuney and rockin' tunes about specific greats like Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, and Hank Aaron; to jazz pianist Dave Frishberg's "Van Lingle Mungo," a song that, according to this albums own liner notes, became his most requested, even though its lyrics are literally only names of baseball players that he'd found in a baseball encyclopedia once, including that of Van Lingle Mungo himself. What a song to have your career defined by 😂.
youtube
But the absurdity of this album really only begins there, because in addition to that, we've got some peak 80s cringe here as well. Like, you know how so many people in that decade mistakenly thought it'd be a good idea to try their hand at rapping? Well, have a listen to legendary Yankees announcer Mel Allen rap the words 'that ain't no jive' on "Baseball Dreams," by Allen and a group called The Naturals. This song is like if one of those horribly cheesy 'just say no to drugs' anthems was made about baseball instead. A complete atrocity that reminds you just how much of this awful type of cheap and generic, keyboard-dominated ~sound~ was really floating around out there at the time. Fun to point and laugh at now, but holy shit, what terrible, terrible music this was!
youtube
And up until that very song on this album, I was set to write about how this is a great release for families to listen to in their car while on the way to a ballgame, so long as they don't go to more than a few games a year. But then I heard the next song, "Baseball Card Lover" by Rockin' Richie Ray, and thought otherwise, because while Richie provides the thinnest of pretenses that this song is merely about his love of baseball cards, what it's actually clearly about instead are his own fantasies about having wild sex with the players on those cards 🥵. So, uh...fun for the whole family, this album certainly is not.
youtube
Still, though, there are a few genuinely good songs on here too, and the best among them, I'd say, is probably Philly soul group The Intruders' "(Love Is Like A) Baseball Game," which wasn't their biggest hit, but still managed to perform modestly well, reaching #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. A quality piece of soul music that came courtesy of the legendary songwriting and production duo of Gamble and Huff, but I'm not too sure that I agree that the whole concept of love can really be equated to "three strikes, you're out" 😅.
youtube
So, all in all, it definitely did feel a little bit tormenting to have to listen to this album and then write up a post about it today, but now that I've done it, I won't have to do it again 👍. Worth a listen if you love the history of baseball and think you'd get a kick out of the wide variety of wacky music that this folkloric game has managed to yield since about the ~1940s, but if baseball's never really been your thing, you can probably skip this collection, because you probably wouldn't understand or appreciate much of what these songs are about anyway.
But seriously, how do you leave a song like "Meet the Mets," one of the single-catchiest baseball tunes ever written, off of an album like this?! 🤔 Tsk, tsk. The lesser known funkier and peppier 70s version of it goes pretty hard, as far as baseball songs go, too, I think.
youtube
Highlights:
The Intruders - "(Love Is Like A) Baseball Game" Steve Goodman - "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request" Sister Wynona Carr - "The Ball Game"
P.S.: Since I've written this, Lindor's MRI has come back clean, which is definitely encouraging, but they really need him back ASAP. Time is definitely not on their side right now 😓.

Anyway, I don't care if you aren't in a country that does baseball, you owe it to yourself to get into MLB. Baseball fandom is so fucking fun. There's no other sport that is so perfectly tailored to bitching and whining about your team, even (maybe especially) when they do well. It's so easy to pick up and understand at a glance and the more you learn the more rewarding it is.
Seriously, just pick a team to be your favorite and follow them. Try to catch recaps if you can't watch live, but try to watch a couple games live. Get into the rhythm of checking when the game is, what the score is. Read some fansites about your team, or follow some league-wide news outlets. It's just so much fun to like baseball, and baseball itself is a ton of fun--but it's also something you can tune out if you wanna. The best part of going to a game is just hanging out in summer in the nice weather in a cool city.
Genuinely, like. I'm gonna list all 30 teams. It will be by league and division. I won't label league or division. Just pick a city, pick a team, become a fan.
Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Guardians, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Miami Marlins, Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, St Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies
Just do it!!

mayhaps, you're wondering, "hey T, who are you rooting for in the 'yoffs anyhow?"
well...
Carolina Hurricanes v. New York Islanders - New York Islanders. They are an acceptable Metro team, and we can all agree the Rags suck, which is a massive plus point in my eyes. And I mean, why in the world would I ever root for the Canes. I'm a Devils fan, let's be serious for a moment.
Boston Bruins v. Toronto Maple Leafs - Boston Bruins. Look, the Bruins are in my top three most hated teams, and the Leafs are in the following tier. To me the Leafs are just Canada's Yankees. AM34 is just another Derek Jeter variant. If it wasn't made clear, I am a Mets fan, and I've been a Mets fan longer than I've been a Devils fan and I've been a Devils fan for over two decades. You'd think given that logic, I'd choose the team I hated less, which would be the Leafs, but nope. I mean, I want to pick neither. I would rather pick neither. Don't ask me to explain my brain. It is what it is.
Florida Panthers v. Tampa Bay Lightning - Florida Panthers. This is almost purely because I've been Catspilled by the Discord. Do you understand how much I viscerally disliked the Panthers up until mere months ago. I still don't actually like them, but I wouldn't be upset if they won, so there. Sigh. Thanks, I hate it. Another match up where I'd rather have neither. Another matchup of hated teams.
New York Rangers v. Washington Capitals - Washington Capitals. For one series only, I am a Caps believer. When I tell you, I dislike the Caps so heavily, so so so deeply. Its so historic. But you know what team I hate the most ever because they're cops...the Rags. So this is actually so incredibly straightforward. Anyone but the Rags is the policy here on imperatorrrrr dot tumblr dot com. The East is mostly just unwatchable for me and mostly just filled with matchups of teams I hate.
Winnipeg Jets v. Colorado Avalanche - Colorado Avalanche. This is easy. Fuck the Jets. I like the Avs.
Vancouver Canucks v. Nashville Predators - Vancouver Canucks. This is the team I am rooting for to go all the way. This is the team I have transferred all of my Devils emotions onto. This is the team that I have chosen. Fun fact tho! I actually wouldn't be entirely mad about the Preds making it either, but the Nuckies are my playoff team. They're also like my third favorite team, so.
Dallas Stars v. Vegas Golden Knights - Dallas Stars. Like I think I'm in the pipeline to become a full fledged Stars fan, but I'm not completely there yet, ya feel? In the meantime tho, definitely rooting for them against Vegas. Here's the thing, fuck Vegas right. Like fuck 'em. Here's policy numero dos here on imperatorrrrr dot tumblr dot come: anyone but the Knights.
Edmonton Oilers v. Los Angeles Kings - Los Angeles Kings. Another lesser of two evils situation here. Kings dislike is historic as in 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs historic right. Oilers hatred is more visceral? More of the moment? I'm softening on my Kings historic dislike. I mean look at me, I'm rooting for the Avs. Do you understand that any Devils fan worth their salt in the early 2000s absolutely did not like the Avs? And look at me now! So yeah, this is mostly I don't want the Oils to win, so the Kings it is! Oh, here's a west coast matchup of hated teams. Some variety in the mix!
there you have it folks! a rooting summary for Round One for those interested!
#Text#Stanley Cup Playoffs#NHL Playoffs 2024#you gotta understand that I've been a Devils fan since like 1999#and that means I have almost twenty five years of rivalries stored in me#there was even a time when I disliked the Ducks#THE DUCKS!#so like rooting for teams is actually very hard for me#cause I have a story about each one of them#at this point honestly besides actually rooting for the Avs and the Nuckies#its a battle of who I don't want to win the Cup the least#I feel like Round Two is gonna be a lot more hard choices#if anyone can guess my color coded system they'll get a fic#see! I give points for reading all my tags

I treat okita, yankee and them like my oc a lot which is partially true but tbh I take no offense to other people's interpretation of them or just being fans of bmyk in general. I don't want it to become like, lupin popular but if it had more fans that'd be great! most people I've met have been chill, too.

I just adore you tbh and I love that you love hockey! I don't watch it often I don't really watch any sports except for pro wrestling but like hockey was a sport I always appreciated for how violent it can be lmfao if I followed it more I'd say I'm an islanders fan as well but I'm biased I think cause I'm from Long Island lol if I support any team it's gonna be Long Island or New York related for sure 😂
i ? love ? you? i literally watch no other sport besides hockey because everything else is so boring to me forreal. like hockey is fast paced and the violence is a bonus tbh cause it adds to the excitement if its a few punches here and there and on ones getting seriously hurt y'know? and hockey chirps are just fun.
but so real thats me with baseball and football - i have no opinion on mets/yankees or giants/jets i will literally cater my answer to whoever i'm speaking to LOL
but omg long island slay thats so wild to me like we know the same places, etc. then tumblr is such a small world

hi! i recently went to visit NYC with my friend (it was fun!! veeery crowded but fun) and she mentioned that 1) there are a lot of abandoned rail lines around NYC, some of which have been reopened and 2) there's apparently an event in grand central where they put a lot of the old trains out on display???
i didn't have time but i'd love to check both of those out if i ever visit again - i was wondering if you knew any more about them? + also if you have any other recommendations for what else to see around the city 👉👈 tysm!!!
Hey, I'm so glad you had a great time in my city! NYC is really a wonderful place, even though we're packed like sardines in here.
There are definitely a lot of rail lines that aren't currently in use in and around NYC, as well as some that are only used for freight. We used to be a pretty dense railroad hub (before cars fully took over). The proposed Interborough Express would run on the Bay Ridge Branch of the LIRR, which hasn't carried passengers since 1924 and has been exclusively used for freight since. If you go into neighborhoods that once contained shipping warehouses, like Industry City in Brooklyn, you can find railroad infrastructure if you know where to look still. A bit further afield, they're looking to hopefully someday return rail service to the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western's old Lackawanna Cutoff, which would allow New Jersey Transit trains to go non-stop between Hoboken, New Jersey and Scranton, Pennsylvania. And of course, we have a myriad of abandoned subway stations, which you can look for as you pass through on your way to other destinations! (City Hall is the one I recommend trying to see the most - just stay on the 6 Train until it loops around after its last stop and you'll pass through as it gets set up to go back uptown. Or you can become a member of the New York Transit Museum and go on a tour, like I did.)
Actually, visiting the aforementioned New York Transit Museum makes getting into an abandoned station easy as pie. You pay $10 to get in and you're in the old Court Street Station. If you like trains (or trolleys or busses!) on any level I highly recommend it.
RE: Grand Central, that was an old event done for National Train Day, and I don't know if they still do it but it would generally be in early May if they bring it back. I know they've been known to roll out the Hickory Creek for that - it's an observation car that used to be on the 20th Century Limited, the New York Central's flagship service between NYC and Chicago. The Hickory Creek is maintained by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey and it tends to be in their yard in Boonton, NJ when it's not running on private charters.
For other recommendations - oh my God, if you haven't been to the American Museum of Natural History, you have to go. It's my favorite place in the entire world. I'll also recommend the Bronx Zoo, the Wildlife Conservation Society's headquarters, as they do a lot of work towards the conservation of endangered species and education. If you like baseball, Citi Field (where my useless Mets play) has significantly better food options than Yankee Stadium, and I'm not saying this out of bias - Yankees fans agree with me.
Avoid Times Square. It may be geared towards tourists, but everyone who actually lives here hates it because it's too crowded and you can't get where you're trying to go. If you really have to go to Raising Cane's or Junior's Cheesecake there are locations in Brooklyn that are so much less crowded.
If you have questions on anything specific I'm happy to help! I love sharing my city with other people!

G O K U D E R A for… you guessed it, Gokudera ((OOC: Vday meme btw))
( * VALENTINE’S DAY ALPHABET ! - accepting!
.Whiskey.
G : GIFT. is your muse good at gift - giving or do they struggle to get it right? I think if he was tasked to do it alone he'd suck at it? If that makes sense. Because I feel like he'd over think it too much and not realize that Haru loves him enough that just spending time with her makes her happy.
O : ODE. does your muse have a way with words? Oh we've seen just how colorful his vocabulary is sometimes. Honestly, I don't think he's that good with his words, as we've seen with all their fights in canon, but as far as our ship development, he's learning I feel to be a bit softer and more patient sometimes.
K : KISS. is your muse a good kisser? why / why not? Fun fact, I always headcanoned that he sucks at it at first because she's his first and he doesn't know what he's doing so they need some practice together, IE: making out. U : UNREQUITED. has your muse had their heart broken? -gestures vaguely at the anime for making him look like Tsuna's lost puppy- verse dependent as I've mentioned I do RP him as bi or at least curious, originally I had a headcanon that he might have had feelings for Tsuna at some point and not been able to freely express it. But reading into the manga more it came across clearer that it wasn't romantic it was loyalty to his Boss as we've discussed, he's very ingrained with mafia culture and heavily yankee coded (the rebel, the bad boy, the street smart kid, etc.) and Mafia code is actually really homophobic in a lot of cases so I scratched the whole Tsuna was his first love thing in favor of there possibly being a girl in Italy once but it was like first unrequited crush when he was just a kid kind of thing or possibly a girl he met when he was still on the streets and it wasn't too serious, but like that feeling of admiration because she might have been the first to treat him kindly. Haru thus far is the first girl in our verses that he's ever been serious about as we've seen how he reacts to his fan girls and others like Shittopi.
D : DATE. what is your muse’s ideal date? where / who with / etc? NGL he's old fashioned so it would probably be dinner and watching the stars or something with Haru, just something relaxing and peaceful as I don't see him being too big on crowds like at bars and such. He's more likely to invite her over to have dinner and watch conspiracy theory videos in our verse for them honestly.
E : EMBRACE. does your muse like hugs? what are their hugs like? Not in public, as we've discussed on discord, he's not big on PDA. But when they're alone, whoo boy. He's a cuddle bug and will hold her for hours if she needs him to, it's just the macho persona he puts on that makes him kinda "later honey, not in front of the boys" about it. But when they're alone he's the one clinging to her. I even headcanon if he's away from her he takes an extra pillow with him to hold at night because he's used to cuddling her and can't sleep without holding something.
R : ROMANCE. is your muse a romantic or a cynic? Cynic turned romantic if that makes sense. Didn't believe he'd ever be like this until he did get into a relationship. Always thought she was stupid for being such a dreamer, and chasing the 10th, which we revealed in our threads as far as plotting goes was because he wanted her all along and was jealous.
A : AFFECTION. how does your muse show affection? As mentioned, he can be a little slow to catch on and rough with her when people are watching, but when they're alone he's holding her, kissing and cuddling, running his fingers through her hair, gazing in her eyes and so on. Absolute putty in her hands.

hii!
how are you?
I saw you posts about the blue jays, and as someone trying to get into baseball, can you like maybe give me a rundown of how the league works and maybe an overview of the blue jays since thats the team Im probably gonna be rooting for? I'm trying to get into it but im completely new to the sport and im honestly a little overwhelmed.
p.s I love your blog!
-🦫
hiii! i'm decent!! i hope you are too :)
omg okay, i only got into baseball a couple of seasons ago, so i don't know like every tiny detail, but here's a little overview! i'm a little honoured you asked me kjnskdjnsda
i'm assuming you know more or less how a game of baseball is played, but if not lmk!
so. mlb first.
the teams are divided between east, central, and west. within each of those there is also the american league and the national league.
AL east: Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays
AL central: Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians (formerly the Indians but pretty much only old people still call them that), Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins
AL west: Houston Astros, LA Angels, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers
NL east: Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals
NL central: Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals
NL west: Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, LA Dodgers, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants
In the NL, pitchers used to have to bat as well as hit, whereas in the AL there was a designated hitter (DH) who was not in the field, but rather stayed on the bench until it was their turn in the lineup to bat (instead of the pitcher). This rule changed last season I believe, and pitchers are no longer required to bat in the NL, but they can still do so if they want (see Shohei Ohtani, an incredible pitcher and batter). Pretty sure that's the only major difference. The AL and NL distinction is used during the All Star Games where the best (objectively) players from across the league play a game: AL versus NL.
It used to be that teams played their division rivals more than other teams, but the MLB has a new schedule this year that is trying to make it so each team plays division rivals less and interleague teams more (e.g., instead of playing other AL east teams a million times, the Blue Jays will play more NL teams). This is to try and make things a bit more even in terms of who plays whom, and also will allow fans to hopefully see their favourite teams more regularly.
For baseball, unlike in, say hockey where there's just single games against teams at a time, MLB baseball has series, in which two teams play anywhere from 2-4 games back to back. There are winners and losers of each game, of course, but there's also the winner and loser of the series. Series that have 2 or 4 games can have a tie, though.
Like other professional sports, there is a final playoff stint for MLB. It happens in the fall. This site has a good rundown of the playoff format!
And here's a list of over 150 basbeall terms/phrases!
Onto the Blue Jays:
So, the jays are Canada's only MLB team and as a result they pretty much have an entire country backing them. They are very vocal and proud of this fact, and take pride in representing a whole country. So that's always nice!
There are some favourites on the team, especially on tumblr lol. These include:

Number 27

Whit Merrifield
Second baseman or outfielder

American
Came to the Jays last year and was a little controversial bc of uhhh vaccine stuff but it's chill now (i think)
Kinda just a Dude
Kevin Kiermaier
Outfielder
Number 39
32 years old
Huge uproar when he was signed this off season because of a stolen data card that Kirk dropped (read about it here if you want)
But is doing well in spring training so far so he's slowly being forgiven by the fans
This is not every player at all. If there are any that I didn't put and you wanna ask about, go ahead! I just did not want this post to be fucking massive, and I feel bad for taking so long as it is.
But yeah, I hope this helped somewhat! Again, I am still kinda new to baseball myself and do not know everything, but I'm always happy to help teach others about the Jays :D
