23andme's new FIFA sponsored "root for your roots" feature is honestly like… really funny

they're pairing people up based on their dna results to countries competing in the world cup but some of their choices are hilarious?

like the first team they tie you to is labeled a "strong match," based on where your dna indicates that your most recent full blooded whatever ancestor is from, but my family has been mixed for so long my window of time goes back 200yrs & is like "someone was british/scots/irish, go team england!"

which… as the fuck if, first of all

then my second results were like "SIKE you're actually black. our bad. go nigeria! go senegal!"

then they said… "you're ashkenazi? guess where you ashkie jews are from. :))) go russia! go poland!" y'all……… 💀💀💀 like russia & poland are MASSIVELY ANTISEMITIC but GO TF OFF I GUESS lmaooooo

bonus bc germany & shit are also RIGHT THERE, the former austro-hungarian empire is definitely in the world cup, but ashkenazim = slavs for this feature??? bruh

and then they said anyone with native dna markers (which is… its own can of worms even besides bq nonsense, but whatever, that's another post) would be matched with a country whose 23andme-using citizens showed on average a similar percentages of indigenous dna markers (again: another Big Mess with its own history on top of the scientific ish)… so I got argentina & brazil… but that explanation was in the fine print, so I was like "HOW DO YOU FIGURE LMAO" bc I thought they fucked up my family being real life venezuelan or sth & that's a far cry from argentina

then they said, "I'm 6% iberian! go spain! go portugal!" when my favorite thing about spain is talking shit about it / the RAE especially bc they are fucking linguistic dinosaurs
