"Must be, if you guys are already expecting," she teased back. It was so strange to think that Logan was married and about to be a father. Not that Lennon ever thought it wouldn't happen, but it had happened fast. Then again, when Logan truly wanted something, he had a habit to go for it and be all in. That was surely why it never went anywhere between them and Lennon was glad for it. "It makes sense, that you'd do things this way. Always on your own terms." There was fondness in her voice mixed with pride. "I think I will love her too. She sounds different from your usual type. She has to be if she didn't let you go." Most importantly, he had listened to her and decided not to brush her off. Lennon wondered why he even tried is usual move of pushing the woman away if he loved her. The woman guessed that he had been scared, like so often before when it came to really feeling things. "We absolutely will not steer away from these photos. I'm bringing them all first meeting. Maybe projecting them on the TV." She would do no such things, at least not until Maggie asked for photos and even then, she would try to not go too hard on Logan. "Your mother has always been too nice for your father. I'm sure she's very happy for you." Lennon wondered if he was worried about what happened to his siblings, how Clayton's marriage feel apart and how Celia had been cheated on. That was not something she would bring up to him and in a way, she felt like she knew it would be different.

"Wait, Celia isn't happy to be an aunt again?" That seemed odd to Lennon. She didn't know Celia as much as she knew Logan but considering how close these two were, it sounded strange. She would have thought that Celia would be over the moon that her brother finally found the one for him and was in such a good place, that he had finally stopped chasing and settled down. And considering Celia probably knew her well, since Maggie came from the town all the siblings lived in during the last year, it was even more puzzling. "Does she doesn't like Maggie?" That was also something Lennon couldn't wrap her head around. Celia wasn't one to dislike many people, even when they deserved it. And this was such a happy thing, that it was strange. "Of course I always believed in you. That's what friends are for. I'm just glad you finally believed in yourself." Hearing Logan talk about Atlas was not something she was prepared for. Everything came from there, didn't it? That was the reason he had left town. "He deserved it, don't even feel sorry for that asshole. He asked Evelyn to marry him." That news had rocked the town, having been the hottest gossip since the cheating came out. "I don't think you could have grown by staying here. You needed to get away from your father's expectations and found yourself. Which sounds like you have," she said with a smile. "You're right, you're not the kind to marry just because of that. And you can't keep her away from me, this town is too small for that and I know where you live. You're screwed."

Logan can't help but laugh at his friend's remark about how he sleeps just perfectly at night. ❝ You're right , being a husband can be pretty exhausting at times. ❞ He continues to joke , knowing that Maggie would have likely given his a playful slap for his teasing remark. There is no denying that his life has changed drastically for the better since the last time the two had spoken. Logan always knew that he would be back in town at some point to take over his family's ranch , but never had he imagined that it would involve him bringing home a wife , and to now be expecting their first child so quickly after their marriage. Yet he has always been known for his chaotic behaviour , so in a way you could say it isn't exactly out of character for him. ❝ She is very special , and I have no doubts that you're going to love her. ❞ He has no fears about how the introduction between the two females will go , because he likes to believe that he is a good judge of character. Meaning that he is pretty confident that the two females are going to connect easily. Maggie is nothing like the women that Logan had surrounded himself with in the past. ❝ I definitely think we should steer her away from those photos. She hasn't really said much , but I could tell in her smile that she likes her. ❞ Logan had no doubts that his mother would adore Maggie , and to be happy that her son had finally found someone that makes him happy enough to make him a married man. Logan doesn't allow his father's judgement of his actions take a hold on him like it use to in the past.

❝ Well at least one ' auntie ' seems to be happy about the idea. ❞ It wasn't that he thought that Celia wasn't happy about the idea of becoming an aunt again , but more about how they had went about it happening so quickly after their marriage that it left her with ideas of him lying to her. ❝ You know that I have always appreciated the confidence you've had in me even when I didn't believe that I deserved it all the time. ❞ Logan pauses for a moment as he gets lost in his thoughts for a couple of moments. ❝ I know what I did to Atlas was kind of fucked up even if he did deserve something for what he did to Celia , but part of me wonders that it was that night that gave me the excuse to leave this place. To go somewhere else , to grow up and realize the good things in life. ❞ He tends to avoid talking about what had happened with the other male , but in a way he had to thank him for having him sent away to only end up finding his own happiness during that time. ❝ I know , but I would never just marry her because she is pregnant. ❞ Logan knew that many people had gone straight to the conclusion that he had only married Maggie because she is pregnant. In the beginning it had frustrated him beyond words because he couldn't understand why people couldn't think the two married because they loved each other , not because a baby is now involved. ❝ Well now I am starting to question if I can allow that to happen. ❞ A teasing smirk forming. Of course he knew that he'd want two of the most important women in his life to meet and have a close relationship even if it meant they could team up on him at anytime.

THANKS. im just filled with thoughts. like, i went on a short research binge on feral children a year or so ago. and like. the research is sparse and infrequent due to morals and ethics so we don't know a lot. but from the few cases we've studied...

the ages 0-6 are SUPER IMPORTANT for healthly developement of a human being. these years are vital. trauma during these years is will last forever even if you don't remember them.

it determines a persons ability to understand language, social behavior, interpersonal relationships, etc.

a feral child reaching adulthood is nigh unheard of. theres only like a single (well known) case. and im not going to get into the nitty gritty of all that bc its fucked up and depressing.

NOW. how this applies to Hoaxe.

Hoaxe was "abandoned" as an infant/toddler. I'm leaning more towards infant based on his size. Based on the fact that he wasn't found until he was at least a teenager, (bc surely someone would have adopted him if theyd found him) we can say that he was isolated his entire childhood and for sure during the critical developmental years.

So- we can say fairly for sure that he did not know how to speak or write when he was introduced to the wasp nest. He had no ideas of social customs or behavior. He probably fought the medical staff before they managed to help him figure out they were there to help him.

Now, realistically, hoaxe at best would have only been able to manage short simple sentences and concepts. if he were human.

also: new au. hoaxe is just the wasps feral little wizard that they have to prevent from setting ppl on fire when hes upset.

since he's a bug, he probably should have turned into a lesser bug. according to the lore books, larvae that arent carefully cared for and are outside the influence of the mother crystal can pupate into lesser bugs.

but we can say that didnt bc crystals. and that he was able to recover as much language/memory/etc skills as he was in the actual game bc he had a fucking crystal dropped on his head. and crystals let u do whatever.

but back on topic on how his feral childhood influenced how he was treated in the hive and gave us the hoaxe we love/hate today:

Since hoaxe looks like a wasp, the medical staff probably presume he has major brain damage, and can no longer speak/understand them. yknow rather than a feral fly who just happens to look like a wasp. so they probably do what they can, get him functioning. set him up with a simple job. just try and reintegrate him yknow.

but, somehow he gets lost in the cracks. or maybe whatever nurse was supposed to take care of him got lazy or cruel. or whatever few friends he made got sent out to active duty (remember. wasps are a very war/fighting centered community) and he was left behind.

So he gets abused. He's an easy target. Acts "weird." Poor speaking ability. Barely knows how to read much less write. No/few friends looking out for him. Perfect for assholes who like to beat people who cant fight back and cant (or dont know how) to report them for it.

of course resentment spreads. of course hes angry. and of course his first idea is to run and get himself safe. thats whatt hes done his whole life. and then choosing violent revenge? where he makes himself strong. and he's learned that the strong control the weak. use them as they see fit. control them. if they didnt want that, well, they should have gotten stronger like he did.

and then he finds out about the everlasting sapling. of course he wants it! it's a way to make himself stronger and immortal and most importantly, safe. he's spent his whole life wanting to be safe. immortality is the ultimate safety net.

Hoaxe is a fun character because this dude singlehandedly killed fucking DEADLANDERS all his life and they really went "yea ur a good janitor". PLUS he also even had latent magic for the crown to bring out like???? they really did look at the most powerful warrior in the kingdom and go "yeah he should clean the floors actually"

did he have latent magic? i thought he got magic from getting his fucking skull crushed in by a crystal.

wait did he kill deadlanders??? hold on. okay no it doesnt seem like he actually killed any, just played the worlds most terrifying game of hide and seek all his life.

i do wonder why the fuck he got the shit beat out of him from other wasps? like i know bullying and abuse doesnt necessarily follow logic but what the fuck was going on there. WHY DID THEY BOTHER TO SAVE HIS LIFE JUST MAKE HIM A PUNCHING BAG

also tbf, cleaning is job that's easy for say, a slightly feral dude to pick up fairly easily. yknow considering he has no education and poor social skills.
