@aggiehufflepuff thank you so much for asking. i offer you: word vomit under the cut bc i don't know how to organize my thoughts

okay so basically, after the previous Librarian (probably kyoshi) retired, sokka and katara both get invites to be the Librarian, but neither tells the other about it. sokka goes to the Library and Katara doesn't bc "she's not all that interested in books and stuff". Aang and Toph also get invites to the Library as potential Librarians, but neither one of them show up either. Aang, Toph, and Katara were actually the Library's preferred choices for Librarian, but since they didn't show up, Sokka got the job (since the Library's physical manifestation is wan shi tong, i wanted to keep that uhhhh very obvious dislike of sokka there)

so sokka becomes librarian, and suki ends up as his guardian. i haven't watched the movies yet so my info here is a bit sparse, but basically suki and sokka fall in love, and then suki ends up having to sacrifice herself and sokka (and everyone else, really) assume she's dead. i think maybe Yangchen would be a Charlene/Judson type person? though i don't know who she would be partnered with

sokka isn't Librarian for near as long as flynn before he meets zuko, who's probably on some sort of secret mission for ozai while sokka happens to coincidentally be on secret librarian business in the same place at the same time. then, of course, after zuko returns home, he gets an invite to the library to be sokka's guardian, and they end up having to track down katara, aang, and toph once they realize the three of them are in danger.

zhao would be dulaque, but unlike yue - whose immortality comes from her bond to the moon spirit - his is due to an elixir of some sort. so they've known each other for centuries, used to be at least respectful towards each other bc they had to be, but then stuff went down and they became sworn enemies. present day zhao teams up with ozai and enlists azula, mai, and ty lee to help with his cause.

then obviously there's three other seasons of possibility. i could use avatar wan in place of shakespeare, though i'm not sure who prospero and moriarty would be. obviously Chaos would be Vaatu and i could probably find a way to bring Raava in somehow,, Yangchen would eventually move on, leaving sokka and zuko to tether to the library. suki would come back, reveal she's not dead, maybe do a little bit of betraying people's trust but eventually get a redemption arc and fall in love with yue. katara and aang would get together at some point even though none of the LiTs canonically date each other bc. kataang. i'm not sure if bending is a thing in this universe or not tbh but if it were, aang would just be an airbender instead of being the avatar.

toph would obviously be ezekiel bc they're both chaotic, have slightly questionable morals, are exceptionally smart despite the fact that that's not what people would think of them, and they're also both aspec bc i say so :) which leaves katara and aang as cassie and jake, though i'm not sure either of those characters makes a ton of sense for katara or aang? i could definitely see aang being more like jake in regards to his love for art history, but katara is more like jake in terms of being ready and willing to physically beat someone up. neither katara nor aang are particularly into math like cassie, and obviously neither of them have the sort of synesthesia she does, but i can see both of them being pretty into the magic aspect of the Library. so i'm still figuring that out sjgfhjkhjg honestly i'd probably change who is which character on an episode-to-episode basis. and even toph would probably end up doing some of the things jake and cassie do while aang and katara end up doing some of the things ezekiel does? idk i'd have to outline each episode individually and then outline each season arc skdhgjfhj

i'd also probably want to find a way to bring mai, ty lee, and azula back beyond just the first season bc i love them a lot

anyway this is an absolute mess bc i'm still figuring out a lot of the logistics and also i have rewatched the show in quite a while but,, i just think there's a lot of potential for an atla librarians au
