#and on the flipside luigi could come out tomorrow and say it was him and he's proud of it

i'll say off the bat that he's innocent until proven guilty, and, as said in another reblog chain, he could have been carrying a nerf gun and a letter to his mother bitching about his insurance and the cops would have said the same thing about whatever they allegedly found. they love calling things 'violent death threats' and then it turns out it's a meme of an anime girl with a gun or whatever.
there are a bunch of fake manifestos circulating already, but a credible version has been posted here. uncorroborated, and that it exists is not proof that it was actually authored by the suspect as a genuine confession of any kind. people confess to crimes they didn't commit all the time. an 'i am spartacus' situation is not out of the question.
so with all that out of the way, my questions are:
if you are planning to assassinate someone powerful in a city where the cops are notoriously overfunded, do you actually expect to get away with it? cops are easy to overestimate. do you bother planning the entire rest of your life, or will trying to imagine the future make you lose your nerve? once it's done, do you ever actually think you've gotten away with it, or do you spend five days jumping at shadows, waiting for the hammer to drop, not even feeling safe enough to change your clothes because you don't want to get arrested naked in the shower? if you are killing someone for political reasons, do you expect to make your statement in court, or do you assume they will only have what they can recover from your bullet-riddled corpse?
all speculation!! i don't know a goddamn thing more than any other member of the public!! but a traumatized young man who doesn't understand why they haven't caught him yet is not going to make the decisions of a criminal mastermind. when it comes to the idea that this was ever the perfectly executed crime of a professional, that also came from the cops, who love making excuses for why all the money in the world isn't enough to make them useful.
i think even if luigi is acquitted or found innocent, prosecutors will quadruple down and keep appealing before they ever entertain the idea that there could be another guy out there they missed while wasting time on an innocent man. another guy could go out tomorrow, shoot a different ceo, hold up his own manifesto and weapon and bodycam footage of him shooting the uhc ceo, and they still would not let luigi go or consider his innocence.
if the claims adjuster was actually an anti-woke libertarian that's fully hilarious. dude's gonna get off scot-free once the conspiracy theories about government false-flag crisis actors get off the ground.
