Saul used his crime money to live a reasonably comfortable life, but wasn't gunning for world domination like a lot of other characters in this universe. Then when shit started hitting the fan he actually got out before it was too late.
Nobody gives this character credit for actually being one of the most competent criminals who knows his limits and doesn't over-extend himself. And it drives me crazy. All the mistakes people harp on him for are just "being a character in a crime drama"; where's his medal for being GOOD AT living in a crime drama? Being in The Game while staying on the periphery away from the fire fight is no easy tightrope to walk. Fans are so fixated on how losing Kim psychologically broke him they ignore all the scenes in Breaking Bad where he is actually being extremely pragmatic for his circumstances.
