I have not seen these articles (although it does seem like something reactionary you might find in right-leqning media unfortunately) and I can reassure you, within any Swedish Eurovision or Melfest groups I am part of there is nothing but admiration, love and to some degree, jealousy of Käärijä and the Finnish spirit that seems to be in a queer renaissance at the moment.
I'm not saying that the things you are referring to doesn't exist, but would like to emphasize that singular voices like these might be spread to provide a polarization in the historically already sensitive past between Sweden and Finland. At best it is spread for memes, at worst by outside forces that take any moment possible to antagonize us against each other.
Whatever the reason, please know that we are jealous of your spirit and success in sending something different, that at large we were cheering for you to win even more than we wanted to win ourselves and that the vast majority of us as a people want nothing but to keep a good relationship between our countries and languages and that we want to further share and learn from our respective cultures!
🇸🇪❤️🇫🇮 Sisarukset aina
Most of it has always had something to do with history. Finland indeed was part of Sweden for 500 years so I know it makes sense to see Finland kinda like avec to Sweden. But it's also the reason why Finland can feel itself getting bullied by Sweden and Russia. We're stuck between two countries that tried to melt us to be part of them.
Like I said before, I have nothing against Swedes personally. Even my own grandfather had a fond relationship with Sweden since he lived there for 11 years when he was a child. And he really treasured everything about Sweden and the Swedish language he learned. What's giving me a reason to be sour is the countries outside the Nordics constantly see these two countries as kinda two peas in a pod. Sweden and Finland have a lot of similarities but we are different with our own shenanigans etc. This is why Käärijä getting so popular while also singing in Finnish is just a huge thing here. It's a big deal!
I feel like Sweden right now sees a reason to bully us even more because it's always feeling like all Sweden wants to see is Finland suffer whenever we lose to you. Since this time we're not doing that, instead of crying in the shadow we're partying and celebrating our second placement, it's pissing off Sweden on some level.
Even though Sweden and Finland have such a close relationship, I think sometimes it might be a bit too close :) We kinda need to cut the umbilical cord finally and this situation is showing why that might be necessary.
Still, Finland and Sweden will definitely remain brothers in arms even if Finland finally took a bit of distance. This is starting to feel like a sibling fight :D Which are soooo common between Sweden and Finland!
Delad glädje är dubbel glädje!
