My least favourite time of the year is when I have to buy a bunch of different(but not too different) boxes of wet cat food until I find the one Socks actually wants to eat for a while before inevitably going off it the second I buy a bulk pack of it and back to the sheba he's been eating for half of his life xD

Americanisms that annoy the crap out of me in writing
By Writerthreads
Welcome back to another post! Today is a little rant/PSA for all of you who use American English and terminology.
When I read books that are meant to portray British characters, I get so annoyed when I read jarring Americanisms. Here’s a list of them that are especially annoying (I’m sorry):
“Pants”
Pants = underwear. Every time I read something on Ao3 along the lines of “Harry spilled a cup of tea on his pants” I immediately think of him drinking said tea in his undies which is absolutely hilarious.
Somebody who can’t afford to go to the GP/hospital??
Hello, we have the NHS which is free at the point delivery!!! #rare uk w
I had to fully stop reading a fic when a British character couldn’t afford medical care and that was a whole plot-line.
As a medical student, this scenario is fully bizarre for me to comprehend. The only situation in which someone wouldn’t seem medical attention from my pov is if they don’t want to wait for hours at the A&E
Chips/crisps/fries omfg
Chips= the fatter ones you get with fish and chips
Tumblr media
Crisps: potato chips
Fries: the thinner ones from Maccies
Cookies vs biscuits
To this day, I still don’t fully get the cookie/biscuit thing but according to my British friends who get annoyed when I mix them up, biscuits are meant to be crunchier (eg. Chocolate digestives & jammie joggers), while cookies are softer, eg. chocolate chip cookies
Biscuits covered in gravy????
What is that. That is not a thing. The UK equivalent would be a scone (sweet, eaten with jam and clotted cream or smth like that and which one goes first is a whole debacle) or a Yorkshire pudding.
Accent/slang
Different people from different areas in the UK speak differently & have different vernacular. When who’s meant to be posh speaks in roadman talk, it’s the funniest thing ever, so please do research carefully!
Takeout
Unfortunately I do say this quite a bit, but people are saying this more in the UK now imo. Takeaway is the preferred term.
Fall
“It’s fall because the leaves fall form the treeeeees” no bro it’s autumn. I grimace every time I read this in a book set in the UK.
I could care less
Ok, then care less? It’s I couldn’t care less, which makes more sense anyways.
Fanny pack
Fannies mean something else in the UK lol. It’s a bum bag, but this term is used more now maybe?
Freshman year? College? Frats? Spring break?
We have a different education system :) uni is three years usually, colleges are halls at uni or sixth form colleges
Little annoyances:
Math: It’s maths. Mathematics.
Vacation: holiday (more interchangeable now tho)
“Line up”: “QUEUE up”
On accident: by accident
Trunk/hood: boot/bonnet (I do a weird mix and say boot/hood, my bad lol)
I drive stick vs I drive manual (learnt this from my ex). Most people in the UK (and Europe) drive manual because it’s supposedly superior
Movie: film (more interchangeable now)
Principal: headmaster/mistress
There’s probably a longer list somewhere…
Thank you for bearing with me. My friends are now subject to me saying ‘trousers’ every time they say ‘pants’, I can’t help it (help I’m getting colonised)
Also look up slang (esp slang from certain parts of London, or roadman slang), they’re hilarious and I can’t help but say some of them now (I blame my friends but honestly calling a meal a scran is so funny)
Anyways goodbye

Logan with a reader who loves to cook for him?? I’m from the south and food is a love letter here!! 😤 deer steak, peach cobbler, biscuits and gravy!!!
Need to fatten him up before the Canadian winter gets to him 🥺 come home Logan your dinners gettin cold
Tumblr media
~~~Wonderful request gorgeous!!!! Had my stomach grumbling while I was writing it. I hope you enjoy it and that this is at least somewhere along the lines of what you were looking for!! This was the only photo of Logan I could find where he’s eating~~~
~~~On a separate note, I'm sorry I've been away for a bit y'all I've been having a rough time, my nana passed away recently so I've been struggling with that. I may be posting less frequently for a while, hope y'all understand. But I did wanna get back into writing and I feel this is the perfect request to write to make my return. My nana was always making that good Southern food for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her collard greens had to be the best I've ever had in my life, her broccoli casserole, mac and cheese, biscuits the whole shebang. She always had me in the kitchen with her insisting I learn how to make everything so I could carry on her recipes so when I saw this request I knew I had to pull out her recipe book. I know she'd also want me to go back to writing cause she loved Wolverine. She never got to see Deadpool and Wolverine but I showed her the clip where Hugh's shirt explodes and she went WOWIE! and watched it at least 10 times so I feel this is a good way to honor her memory, she'd want me to be thinking about Hugh Jackman. Nana this one is for you I love you.~~~
~~~Mostly fluff, implied oral at the end but nothing is explicitly written, also mostly unedited cause it's just a quick little thing~~~
I focus on my Nana's broccoli casserole recipe in front of me, carefully mixing the blend of cream of mushroom soup, eggs, onions and mayonnaise in a bowl until it’s thick and creamy. I pull the bag of broccoli florets out of the freezer and add them to the mixture taking care to make sure they’re thoroughly coated. I take some of the cheddar cheese shreds and sprinkle it into the bowl stirring it in thoroughly before pouring the ingredients into a dish. I take extra care in sprinkling whatever shredded cheese I have left on the top of the casserole. I read from my Nana's recipe, crumbling up a few packets of Ritz crackers, and sprinkling the crumbs along the top of the casserole alongside the shredded cheese, just as she taught me when I was little. I grab my oven mitts opening the oven door, gripping the casserole dish tightly in my hands, slipping it into the oven. I set the oven timer to 45 minutes, pulling my oven mitts off. I turn my attention back to the pots on the stove, lifting up the lids to check on my collard greens and mashed potatoes. As soon as I lift the lids up the sweet aroma of a home-cooked meal fills the kitchen. A smile making its way onto my face. I begin clearing the table setting up the placemats and getting the plates and silverware ready. I jump slightly as the front door opens and closes, Logan's voice wafting through the air. “Darlin I’m home!” He calls out and I grin as I hear his voice, I poke my head out of the kitchen and I sight watch him kicking off his shoes at the front door. He looks up catching sight of me and I watch him take a deep breath inhaling the smell of my cooking. “Something smells delicious” He chuckles taking a few steps towards me, I step out of the kitchen, meeting him halfway and his eyes roam my figure hungrily taking in the sight of me in my apron. “And something else looks delicious” He chuckles wrapping his arms around me.
“Hi baby” I grin, giggling as he nuzzles his nose against the top of my head, “have a good day?” I ask softly, and he grunts running his hands through my hair and kissing the top of my head.
“Better now I’m with you” He chuckles gruffly holding me tighter and I smile, “So whatcha got cooking for me” he pulls away slightly, his hand cupping my face, tucking my hair behind my ear, his other hand finding its place on my lower back.
“Hmm, some broccoli casserole, mashed potatoes, collard greens…” I grin looking up at him, fingers lightly tracing shapes on his chest. He groans, his lips falling down to mine in a passionate kiss.
“Oh darlin you treat me so well” He chuckles, his lips falling from mine, ghosting along my jaw where he presses light kisses against it. His lips kiss down my neck and I let my head fall back slowly as he nips gently at the skin of my collarbone “Always cooking delicious meals f’me” he groans lightly, burying his nose in the crook of my neck inhaling deeply.
“Well you take such good care of me, only fair I take care of you too” I giggle.
“And you do it wonderfully” he grins, tightening his hold on me, I wrap my arms around his neck. “I appreciate everything you do for me" He kisses me, murmuring against my lips "lemme show you how much” He kisses me again, his hands leaving my lower back to palm at the fat of my thighs, massaging the skin rhythmically. I giggle leaning into his touch, closing my eyes only to have them spring open at the sound of the oven alarm going off I chuckle lightly as he groans loudly at the interruption. Keeping his forehead pressed against mine.
“Baby as much as I’d love that,  I gotta go check on the food… can’t let it burn” I say softly pushing lightly against his chest and he grumbles reluctantly letting me go.
“Fine fine, just so all your hard work doesn’t go to waste” He grumbles and I smile patting his cheek lightly, weaseling out of his arms and walking back into the kitchen. He trails after me sniffing the air, humming quietly to himself. I grab a pair of oven mitts, opening the oven taking the food out putting the dish on the kitchen counter. I turn the stovetop off stirring the collard greens and mashed potatoes one last time before grabbing two plates gently scooping a large portion of food onto Logan's plate. Repeating the process and scooping a slightly smaller portion onto mine. I hand the plates over to Logan who sets them down on the table pulling my chair out for me.
“Thanks honey” I grin and he pushes my chair in when I sit down, he grins at me slyly pouring me a glass of wine. Pouring another for himself before settling himself in the chair on the opposite side of the table. I take a small bite of each food giving it a small taste test, while Logan across the table digs in like a man starved, practically scarfing down his food. I chuckle lightly sipping my glass of wine.
“Oh baby you outdid yourself” He mumbles through a mouthful of food, making me laugh. “Absolutely delicious” He compliments and I smile.
“Used Nana’s recipe” I grin, “same one she used for Thanksgiving dinner” I chuckle, scooping up another forkful of food and guiding it into my mouth. “well thank you, Nana” He chuckles raising his glass of wine, waiting till I tap mine against his, before he takes a sip. It doesn’t take too long for us to finish up our food and I start to stand up as soon as Logan's plate is cleared, reaching across the table to grab it from him, but he tsks shaking his head at me. “Oh no you don’t” he says making me pause my movements my hand hovering over his empty plate. He smiles walking behind me putting his hands on my shoulders massaging gently kissing the back of my neck, gently pushing me back down into my chair.
“What?” I laugh, letting him guide me back into my chair.
“You cooked, which means I do dishes” He insists, and I chuckle.
“Alright, alright” I smile watching as he clears the plates from the table, he puts all the leftovers in containers and stores them in the fridge. Carrying the pots to the sink pouring soap in the pots letting the hot water run and fill them up. I watch him from my seat at the table taking another sip of wine, watching the muscles in Logan's arms flex as he scrubs the pots and pans rinsing them of soap before putting them in the dish rack to dry. He grabs a tea towel using it to dry his hands, as he turns around leaning back against the kitchen counter, his gaze landing on my figure.
“Well I’m stuffed” he smiles setting the tea towel aside, “but…” He grins standing behind my chair massaging my shoulders again. He takes my hand tugging me out of my chair, holding me close to him, kissing me softly hands gripping my thighs, lifting me up slightly to sit on the dining table. He pulls my body to the edge of the table, making me lay back leaning on my elbows. He pulls up the chair I was previously sitting on, perching himself on the edge of my chair. He pulls my shorts off, my panties following not far behind. He tosses them aside letting them land in a forgotten corner of the room, his lips trailing along my thighs kissing them gently groaning softly at the taste of my skin. He grips my thighs guiding my legs over his shoulders, biting softly at my upper thighs, “I think I’ve saved just enough room for dessert” He purrs, his head dipping down between my legs.
Starting Over Again - Chapter 4
Pairings: Tyler Owens/Female Reader
Warning: Injury, Tornado, a few swear words, near death of character
Tumblr media
A/N: The words to the songs used in this story is “River and Highway” by Pam Tillis and “Starting Over” by Chris Stapleton. I don't own any of the lyrics or songs.
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Chapter 4
The sound of a door closing startles you awake.
“Morning!” Tyler smiles at you, holding a bag of something that smelled amazing.
“What is that I smell?” you ask, sitting up.
Tyler sits next to you on the bed as he pulls out the to go boxes, “We have a good 'ol Oklahoma breakfast here! Chicken Fried Steak with scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy .There's donuts, cookies, sticky buns, and chips in the truck along with plenty of water for snacks.”
He gives you your box and hurries over to the dresser in the room, “I also got us coffee and orange juice. Cream or sugar for the coffee?” he asked.
“Oh...um...both.” you answer looking over the food, “Do you always eat this big for breakfast?”
“Only on days that we are planning to be out chasing most of the day. Might not be enough time to stop for lunch, so we fill up with a big breakfast and bring plenty of snacks.”
“Thank you. This all smells amazing.” you start to eat as the room grows silent.
“I am sorry about last night.” you broke the silence, you're eyes meeting Tyler's.
“What are you sorry about?” he asked.
“I am sorry I woke you up. Sorry I cried all over you.” you gave a small smile, “Sorry I unloaded my ugly past on you.”
“Don't be sorry.” he smiled softly, “I didn't mind.” he paused as he thought about his next words. Should he tell her the truth, that he believed he was falling in love with her, that he wanted to get to know her better, that he wanted more nights of her falling asleep safely in his arms? Or, should he play it safe, not knowing how she feels, wanting to give her time to move at her own pace, what felt comfortable for her..finally, he gave a small smile, “What are friends for, right?”
“Right,” you smile at him. You're both relieved and a bit saddened.. At least you knew how he felt about you now. You were friends, and that's how it should be, at least for now. You only met him yesterday. Sure, he was easy on the eyes and you felt at home wrapped in his arms...but he was a friend. You were still married to an abusive husband that may or may not be tracking you down right now. You honestly couldn't pin point exactly how you felt about Tyler. Your heart was screaming you loved him, but your mind was saying take it slow, you don't even know him. This was how you got into trouble with Lee. You were lonely and looking for love and fell for the wrong guy. You did not want to make THAT mistake again.
“Anyway, I think I got the room situation straightened out.” he stated after a moment of silence. “They gave us the wrong room yesterday. There is a couple here on vacation and they only needed one bed. They accidentally got our double room and we got the king one. We're going to pack our stuff up this morning and by the time we come back tonight they will have the rooms switched for us,” he paused, “That is if you are still okay sharing a room...”
“Yeah, that's fine,” you give him a smile.
“Great, I'll start loading up the truck and we can hit the road.”
“What's the plan for today?” You try not to notice how tight his black shirt was fitted over his chest, try not think about how he looked dripping wet or how warm and safe he felt as he held you close to him.
“You and me are going to ride together. I've got a laptop with weather radar set up in the truck. Help us track the storms, take video and photos. Boone and Lily are going to be in the other truck filming as well. Dexter and Dani will bring up the rear in the RV. Dexter is going to be helping track the storms with the systems in the RV.”
“Sounds exciting.” you nodded, eager to get started on your first day being a storm chaser.
“What's the biggest tornado you ever been in?” he asked.
“Not many big tornadoes in Tennessee.” you said, “Probably would have been an F3 that hit downtown Nashville. My mom and I were there on a weekend trip to see the Grand Ol Opry when it came though. There was an F5 during that weekend as well, but it was farther away from where we were staying. It was known as the Forgotten F5 because of the lack of news coverage. Everyone covered the tornado that hit downtown Nashville because it was so unusual for a large tornado to strike a downtown area, actually, it was the first F3 tornado to hit a downtown area in twenty years.”
“Were you scared?” he asked softly.
“Terrified! I was only a kid and I was already scared of storms...that only enhanced my fear. We had to run and take shelter in a building. Windows were breaking, glass littered the downtown streets, the sky was so dark it was like night.”
“Yet, here you are...a storm chaser chasing tornadoes...riding your fears!” he grinned.
“Riding your fears...what exactly does that mean?”
“It means you don't just face your fears, you jump in and conquer them. You can't just run and hide from it. You learn from your fears. In the case of tornadoes, we face them head on to try to learn about them, and prevent more people from getting hurt.”
“Makes sense.” you nodded, “are you scared of the storms?”
He was silent for a moment before answering, “Yes...and no. I am not scared of anything happening to me. I know the risks and I take them. I make it fun. I am scared for my team though, for those I care about...” he looks you in the eye, “I am scared for all the people in the path of the storm. We can't always stop a tornado, we can't always predict when and where it's going to hit. Sometimes, we miss it. Sometimes we are too late. That is what I fear.”
You nodded as you finished your breakfast, “That's why I wanted to get into weather. I was terrified of storms as a child, but as I got older I learned to love them. I loved the beauty and power of storms, but I hated the devastation they caused. I wanted to help find a way to warn people and to help people.”
“Well, you're in the right place then.” He grinned, “ready to ride your fears?”
“Defiantly.” you give him a smile back, feeling confident about the day and your decision to come to Oklahoma.
* * * * *
Lee sat staring at his computer, “I will find you, Y/N. I swear, you can't hide from me forever.”
He typed in your name again and was about to give up, not finding any results until...
“Who's the new mystery girl with the Wranglers?”
Lee clicked the link and found varies videos and photos from fans for a group called The Tornado Wranglers, who currently appeared to be in Oklahoma.
There, he found a picture of a woman standing next to a red Dodge Ram with a bunch of equipment attached to it. To Lee it looked like one of them tornado trucks.
“Who's the new mystery girl with the Wranglers?” the poster asked.
“She just showed up yesterday, I saw her and Tyler at a restaurant. They haven't introduced her yet. Maybe she's a girlfriend?” another poster stated.
Lee zoomed in on the photo and grinned, “So...Oklahoma.” he muttered, “not far enough. Not far enough at all.” he clicked on the link that lead him to the Tornado Wranglers YouTube channel.
After a few videos, he figured out that the team was currently in El Reno Oklahoma and the photos from the fans proved it was differently his Y/N hanging out with them.
* * * * *
“Any leads yet?” Tyler asked you as the team drove though a lonely country road. So far, the day had not seen much action.
“Here, just west of here.” you point on the radar, “it looks to be getting high and that hook is forming.”
Tyler glances at the radar and nods in agreement, “Dexter, what about that cell just to the west?”
“I am watching that one, Ty. Looks promising. What does Y/N think?” he called back.
Tyler flashed you a grin, “Ah, she agrees! That's where we're heading!”
You smiled to yourself as you looked out the window at the building storm. You were happy to have made a good decision, a step in the right direction, proving that you did know a little something about storms.
“THERE!”you shout, We got a funnel!” You pull out your camera and start filming the development of the twister.
“Hang on...we're going in!” Tyler grinned, jerking the truck to the right and though an open field.
You let out a scream of surprise and grab for the dash, “What the hell do you mean we're GOING IN!”
“Ride your fears baby, ride your fears!” Tyler yelled out, parking a mere feet from the now fully developed tornado, “Look at her! She's beauty!” he screamed over the roaring winds, but he was looking more at you then the tornado as he mashed the button, anchoring the truck to the ground. “Hang on!” he yelled.
You hold the video camera with one hand, keeping a death grip on the dashboard with the other. You couldn't believe what was happening. The tornado was going to go right over you.
“Tyler, is this SAFE?” you yell.
“Sure it is! This looks to be a EF2, maybe EF3. Depends on the damage it does. This truck is good up to EF4.”
And then the truck was surrounded by a whirling black cloud, debris bouncing off the metal with big thuds, pops, and bangs. The roaring of the wind and the shaking of the truck felt and sounded like a freight train running right over you.”
And just like that, as quickly as it started...it was over.
You looked at Tyler with a huge grin, “Oh my GOD! That was a freaking tornado! We were INSIDE of a TORNADO!” you shouted.
“Nothing like it, now is there?” he flashed you a grin.
“Thank you...” you smile at him.
“For what?” he asked, “putting you in the path of a tornado?”
“For giving me a chance...for giving me this experience..for being there.” You shrugged. You didn't know how to put into words everything you were feeling. This man gave you a job without even knowing if you were telling the truth. He was willing to give up his hotel room so you could be comfortable. He held you in his arms last night when you woke up screaming from a nightmare. He has done everything he could since you met him to make sure you were safe and taken care of. Then, he gives you the experience of a lifetime by driving directly into a tornado.
“Anytime, Darling.” Tyler smiled at you, “This tornado seemed to be a little short lived, but lets drive though town and make sure everyone is okay. If the radar still looks quiet we could grabs some dinner.”
“Sounds good.” you agreed.
“We're taking a ride though town, make sure everyone is okay. If all is good and radar is quiet we'll grab something to eat.” Tyler called over the radio as the trio of vehicles made a turn into town.
As you rode though the town, gazing out the window, you were thankful that it appeared that the only damage was to some trees and power lines, maybe some roof shingles and windows. Everyone looked to be okay.
“What you see on radar?” he asked you.
“Not much of anything. All the storms seemed to have died out for the day.”
“Let's call it a day, guys.” Tyler radioed, then looked at you, “Can I take you somewhere?” he asked.
“Sure.” you shrugged.
“I am going to take Y/N for a little tour and lunch. How about we meet up back at the hotel later tonight and we'll make our plan for tomorrow?”
“Sounds good Ty.” Lily confirmed.
“See you tonight.” Dani agreed.
“Hey, don't do anything I wouldn't do!” Boone yelled into the radio, making you blush a little.
“Idiot.” Tyler laughed.
“There's a sandwich shop on up the road here, do you mind if we take it to go?”
“No, not at all.”
Tyler pulled into the parking lot and hurried around the truck, opening the door for you before you had the chance. He started to reach for your hand as you walked towards the little shop, but decided against it. You hadn't lend him to believe you wanted anything more then friends, but he was determined to be there if and when you changed your mind. He stepped a bit ahead of you instead and opened the door to the shop.
“What will it be?” he asked as you two looked over the menu above the counter.
“All American sub with mayo.” you answer
Tyler placed the order for the two sandwiches, drinks and chips and you two walk back to the truck.
“So, where are you taking me?” You asked when he opened the truck door for you again.
“To a little slice of heaven on Earth.” he grinned, giving you a wink, “It's only a few miles up the road.”
Within minutes, Tyler turned next to a sign that read 'Lake El Reno Park'
“There's a creek that runs into this lake, called Fourmile Creek” he told you.
“Let me guess...it's four miles long.” you grin.
“Yep!” Tyler smiled, “It feeds into the lake and there's a bridge that goes over the river...” he paused, “It's just a nice place for a picnic I thought.”
“Sounds beautiful.” you smile as he parks and collects the food bag and a blanket. You open the door and get out this time before he gets around to open it for you.
“Hey...that's my job,” he pretended to pout.
“I am a big girl and I know how to open my own doors.” you stated.
“But I like to open them for you.”
“Alright, next time.” you agree.
Tyler spreads the blanket down and you set out the sandwiches, chips and drinks and take a seat next to him.
“Oh...one more thing I forgot.” he grabbed his keys and sprinted back to the truck. A moment later he returned with a guitar.
“You sing?” she asked.
“I try.” he laughed. “There's a old country song that this place reminds me of.” he said, strumming a few cords. “Um, here, let me just sing a few verses for you.” he starts playing the music and softly sings
And he rolls, he's a highway. Where he goes, time will tell. Heaven knows, she can't go with him. And he rolls, all by himself. All by himself.
But every now and then, He offers her a shoulder. And every now and then She overflows. And every now and then A bridge crosses over. It's a moment, every lover knows.
And she rolls She's a river Where she goes Time will tell.
Tyler trailed off seeing a tear roll down your cheek.
“Hey, what's wrong?” he asked, setting the guitar to the side, “I am sorry, I didn't mean to upset you.”
“No...no you didn't. It's a beautiful song, one I have loved for a long time.” you whisper then smile at him. “I never figured you for the romantic type.”
He shrugs it off picking up his sandwich, “Aw, it's just that I can kinda relate to the song is all.”
“Is there a special someone in your life? Or was there?” you ask, almost afraid of the answer.
He locks his eyes on yours, “There hasn't been. I dated...a lot...but there hasn't been that special someone..” he wanted to say, 'until now.' but he decided to hold it in, for now.
You both finish your lunch and make small talk about the chase of that day and team. Tyler cleans up the trash and sits back down next to you.
“It's so peaceful and quiet out here.” he said softly, watching the sun go lower on the horizon.
“Yeah, it is.” you agree, “I miss this. Before Lee, I used to love hiking though the mountains, or taking a quiet boat ride on the lake. Some days I would go into the woods, climb up in a tree and just read a book.”
“I'd like to do that sometime.” Tyler turned and locked his eyes on yours, “with you. Maybe you can take me to Tennessee and show me the mountains you loved, or we can spend the day cruising a lake. Maybe I could take you up to the Ozark Mountains around my home town.”
“I'd like that.” you smiled.
“One more song before we head back?” he asked picking up the old guitar. “There's another one that seems to be running though my head. Sometimes...I can say what I want in a song better then I can words.”
“Really? I am the same way. The song speaks to what I am feeling and can't say.”
Tyler strums a few cords and smiles softly at you, “You are the only person I have met that understands that. OK, so here it goes.."
And it don't matter to me Wherever we are is where I wanna be And honey, for once in our life Let's take our chances and roll the dice I can be your lucky penny You can be my four-leaf clover Starting over
This might not be an easy time There's rivers to cross and hills to climb Some days we might fall apart And some nights might feel cold and dark
But nobody wins, afraid of losing And the hard roads are the ones worth choosing Someday we'll look back and smile And know it was worth every mile
He lays the guitar down and reaches for your hand, “Y/N. I am sorry about this morning.”
You frown, “What about this morning?”
“I referred to us as friends.” he sighed, “We are friends, always will be. I'd like to be something more with you though. That's what I am trying to say in these songs because Lord knows I am not good with words and I am not good at showing my feelings. I know we only met yesterday, but I believe in love at first sight. I knew I was going to love you the moment you stepped off that bus. There was a connection there and I can't explain it. We'll take this as slow as you want, I am not going anywhere.” his eyes glistened with tears, “I hate that you've been hurt in the past. I wish I was there to save you then, but I am here now. I swear I will never do anything intentionally to hurt you. I'd like for us to date, hang out, whatever you want to call it. I want to be with you as much as you will have me. I want us to be a team, to be friends, and to be more...when you are ready.”
“I want that too.” you whisper, “I never felt this way about anyone. Not even Lee. I was lonely and scared and looking for love and I thought I was in love with him...but now that I've met you...I can't explain what this feeling is. It's so much more then I have ever felt before for anyone. I feel safe with you. I feel comfortable with you. You feel like home, and when I say that, I mean the home I grew up in. A home that was my safe place. A home where I was loved and felt like I belonged. I haven't known a home in a very long time, but I believe I have found it with you.”
Tyler leaned in slowly and paused, waiting for your permission. Waiting to see if you would lean in or pull away. His eyes gazed into yours and you felt butterflies in your stomach as you leaned forward and brushed your lips against his. He wrapped his arms around you and deepened the kiss.
A clap of thunder made you jump as lighting streaked across the sky.
“Well, I knew there sparks between us, but that was amazing.” Tyler grinned, standing up and helping you up. “Let's get to the truck before the skies open up.”
Tyler holds the blanket and guitar with one hand and your hand with the other as you both run for the truck.
“Where's the keys?” he asked checking his pocket where they were suppose to be.
You look around the ground and inside the truck and spot the keys and cell phone on the backseat.
“Tyler...those keys?” you grin.
“Oh no. no. no. no.” he pulls on the doors but they were locked.
“Okay,” he sighed, “You got your phone? We'll call someone out here to unlock the truck. I must have left them there on the seat when I got the guitar.”
“My phone is in the truck. I didn't think there was a reason to bring it just for a picnic. I am sorry.” you muttered as the rain began to pour down.
“It's okay.” he wrapped you in a hug, but looked at the sky with concern.
The air pressure was changing and you picked up on it too. Wind swirled around you and suddenly from inside the truck you heard the alerts go off on your phones.
Tyler quickly scanned the area for a safe place to go. “There!” he pointed to a ditch next to the river, “Go!”
He runs behind you pushing you towards the ditch as debris fly around. “Down!” he yelled over the roaring winds as he pushes you into the ditch, throwing his body over yours and pushing you as close to the ground as he could. He covered your head with one arm and kept the other arm wrapped around you. “Just hang on, it's going to be okay!” he promised.
You hear trees snapping in half, feel the pounding of the rain, you feel the wind trying to suck you up...and suddenly, Tyler screams out in pain and you feel his body get shoved against yours.
“TYLER!” You scream grabbing his arm that was still tightly holding you. “TYLER! YOU OK?”
“I am okay.” he promised as he gasped for air, “I think it was a tree that fell on top of us. You okay?” he asked. He felt what he assumed to be sharp broken off branches cutting deep into his leg, the weight of the tree pinned against his back.
“Yeah, I am okay.” you told him as the winds finally calmed down. The rain continued to beat down in sheets. Tyler was laying against you gasping for air.
“Tyler?” you were worried when he didn't move. Were you trapped? How badly was he injured?
Tyler laid there, feeling the blood running down his leg. He knew he couldn't get himself out, but he was damn sure going to do whatever he could to get you out.
“I am stuck here pretty good.” He finally answered, not wanting to concern you, “I am going to try to left up a little. I want you to get out from under me and go get help.”
“Tyler, no...I can't leave you.”
“Y/N...I don't know if there's more twisters out here or not. This rain pouring down could lead to flooding. The river is literally right next to us. I will be okay, we just need some help lifting this.”His body collapsed against yours as he worked to catch his breath again and you knew there was something more serious wrong.
“OK.” you agree, knowing that you weren't going to leave him, but also not wanting to waste his energy arguing about it.
“Ready?” he gasped, fighting against the pain. He had to remain conscious, at least until he knew you were free.
“Ready.” you answered.
Tyler screamed in pain as he pushed up against the tree and collapsed back against you. “Too heavy.” he gasped his body seemed to go limp.
“Tyler...stay with me.” you pleaded, trying to wiggle enough room to at least turn around and look at him and see how badly he was injured.
“I'm here.” he muttered, “just...need...to rest.”
You both lay in silence for a moment, the unrelenting rain washing over you. The rain was so intense that at first you didn't notice the water filling the ditch. It wasn't much, but you could tell it was raising.
“Tyler...water. We got to get out of here.”
Panic raced though his body. Water was filling the ditch, it was flooding...and he had you pinned face down. He was trying to protect you...now he was your death trap. He had to move, even if it killed him. He had to ignore the pain and move so you could be free.
“Y/N..listen to me.” he gasped. “I am going to move this thing.” he paused catching his breath.”You don't worry about me. You fight, you get out of here. You will drown if you stay pinned under me, and that in itself will kill me. I will NOT be a cause of pain for you. You get out of here and get help. Please Y/N...I need to know you will be alright.”
“Okay, I will.” you promise though the tears, “Tyler...I love you. I love you like I have never loved before.”
He laid his face against yours and kissed your cheek softly, “I love you too baby girl. Hang on, we will get through this. We will get through this and I will show you the love you deserve.” he choked back his own tears, trying to hide the pain in his voice. He didn't think he was going to get out of this one, but he dame sure was going to try.
Tyler took a deep breath, “Okay, on the count of three. I lift and you get out of here..one...two..THREE!” he lifted with all his might, ignoring the pain raging though his body.
If anything good was coming from the rising water, it was making the ground softer. You pulled and felt yourself sliding free. “I am out!” You yelled, scrambling to your feet as quickly as possible.
Tyler collapsed back to the ground, now having to raise his head to keep it above water as he gasped for air. “Go...go get help.” he pleaded as his eyes drifted close and he slumped face first into the ever rising water.
“NO! TYLER!” You hold his head above water, “please, you gotta stay with me. Help me...I need you to help me.”
He moaned hearing your voice calling to him. You needed him. He had to fight to stay awake. “I am here.” he muttered.
“I am going to try to move this tree and free you. Stay with me..hold your head up for me so I can try to free you.”
“Hmm hmm.” he muttered.
“TYLER!” you screamed.
He jolted awake.”I am here. I am here.”
“We gotta hurry, the water is rushing in now, but it might help me to move this off of you.” you looked at the mangled tree that was pinning his waist to the ground.
Tyler nodded, holding his head as far up as he could. You push against the tree, going with the flow of the water. Tyler screams out in pain but you keep pushing, you can't stop. If you stop, he drowns.
Slowly the tree shifts, and Tyler is able to roll over on his back and start to pull himself out, but suddenly the tree rolls back, crashing into his chest and completely pinning him under the rushing water.
“Oh God no! TYLER!” You scream, trying to lift his head up, but the water is just too deep and the tree was pined against his chest.
He was glad for one thing, the water was washing the tears in his eyes away. This was it..this was how he was going to die. He was going to drown. He always figured it would be a tornado that took him out, but he never thought about a flood. His heart broke for you. All the pain that your husband had put you though, he thought maybe he could be a chance at happiness for you...now, he would just be the cause of more pain. His lungs screamed for air and his final thought was at least he protected you from the tornado. He could only pray that you would find safety from this flood...he wished he could be there with you, holding you in his arms and comforting you. He wished he could still protect you...and then nothing but blackness.
“NO!!!!” you scream, feeling him go limp in your arms. You struggle to hold on to him, struggle to free him. Suddenly the tree shifted in the current and and you pulled with everything that was within. You felt him come free and you struggle to pull him out of the water and away from the ditch.
“Tyler...” you cried, feeling for a pulse and not finding none...”You can't leave me...” you yell, placing your palms over his heart and doing 30 compressions. You pinched his nose closed, tilting his head back and covered his lips with yours, blowing in two breaths before going back to compressions ....one...two..three you counted until reaching 30 again.
You check again for a pulse. There was none.
Giving him two more breaths you continue the compressions with tears streaming down your face, mixing with the pounding rain.
Suddenly Tyler gasped and started coughing. Quickly you turn him over to his side and hold him as he coughs up water.
“Tyler..” you cry, rubbing your hand along his arm...he continues coughing and gasping, spitting up more water and then lets his body collapse back against you. “Ty...” you hold him close to you, running your hand though his hair.
“You okay?” he asked, opening his green eyes to gaze up at you.
“You DIE on me, and you asking if I AM okay?” you laugh though the tears.
“Well...” Tyler was gasping for air still, pain etched into his face, “are you?”
“I'll be okay when you're okay.” you tell him, checking him over for injures. You spot the blood soaking though his jeans from a large gash in his leg. “I gotta go to the truck and get that blanket. You need something to slow the bleeding on your leg.” you tell him, but he doesn't answer.
“No...Ty.” fear grips you as you quickly check for a pulse, breathing with relief when you find one. Quickly you run to the truck and back to Tyler, wrapping the blanket around his leg as tightly as you could, keeping your hand pressed against it. “Hang in there,” you whisper, watching the slow rise and fall of his chest.
“You all okay?” You hear someone yell. It was a police officer out checking the streets after the storm.
“NO! We need help! We need an ambulance. He has a bad cut on his leg.” you yell, not willing to leave Tyler's side.
“Ambulance is on it's way ma'am.” the officer told her.
“Sir, one more thing...could you tell the Tornado Wranglers at El Reno Inn that Tyler Owens is hurt and heading to the hospital? That's our storm chaser team. They will be looking for us. The names are Lily, Dani, Dexter, and Boone.”
The officer wrote down the names, “Will do.” he nodded.
⠈⠂⠄⠄⠂⠁⠁⠂⠄⠄⠂⠁⠁⠂⠄⠄⠂⠁⠁⠂⠄⠄⠂⠁⠁⠂⠄⠄⠂⠁⠁⠂⠄⠄
i sat at a booth at the far end of the restaurant, polishing and rolling silverware into neat little bundles. it had been two hours since anyone had come in, so i sent the cook home. i could handle it on my own, the diner had been in my family for years and i basically grew up there. not that there was anything to handle, the floors were mopped, grill cleaned, and now, silverware rolled. but still, someone had to stay behind, just in case.
i was gazing at the sunset through the large glass windows, when i heard the bell above the door ringing. my head shot up and i locked eyes with a beautiful, beautiful man.
i stood up, patting my hands on my ridiculous waitress apron, and approached him with my customer service smile. "hey there, welcome in! just one dining in today?" i greeted him.
"yep.." he spoke awkwardly, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"would you like to sit at a booth or have a seat at the bar?" i grabbed a menu and a set of silverware from behind the counter.
"the bar is fine, thank you," he took a seat on the spinny stool.
"alrighty then, there's the menu for you, my name is (y/n) if you need anything, and i can go grab you a drink while you take a look at that. what would you like?"
"umm.." he flipped over the laminated sheet. "i'll have a chocolate shake please, extra cherries.
"perfect! i'll be back in a minute" i spun around and headed back to the kitchen, secretly annoyed that i had to pull out the blender, and ice cream, and etc. etc.. but alas, doing something was better than nothing. i hurriedly prepared the milkshake, topping it with whipped cream, then some rainbow sprinkles. i made sure to add five or six cherries on top, then adding some extra whipped cream, just because.
i hurried back to the counter, placing his milkshake before him, and popping a bright pink straw into his drink.
"pink?" he raised an eyebrow at me. i felt a shift in his demeanor.
"yes, pink?" i raised one back.
"do i seem like the kinda guy who likes pink?" he smirked a little.
"it's just pink, doesn't mean anything. i grabbed a random straw sweetie, i'll change it out for you, sorry about that," i reached for the straw.
"no no no," he brought the shake closer to him. "my bad sweetie, i thought you were trying to say something, but that's okay, i actually do like pink."
i gave him a puzzled look. "i'm sorry sir, i didn't mean to offend you, i work in a diner, we call everyone sweetie here, that's how we get old guys to tip big. as for the straw, i'll just let you pick what color you want next time."
he focused on his shake, sipping slowly for a second, before looking up at me, licking his lips.
"i'm not offended sweetie, i kinda like it," he laughs. "i apologize if we got off on the wrong foot, i'm not trying to be rude, or weird or anything, i'm just really bad at flirting."
i let out a sigh "-gosh you scared me! i thought you were gonna murder me or something because i'm all alone in this diner! man, you're terrible you know that?" i giggled.
he looked very amused. "how do you know i'm not a murderer? you can't let people know you're all alone here, as pretty as you are. that's dangerous." focusing back on his shake.
"i'm gonna choose to trust you today, i have nothing better to do. anyways, have you decided what you want to order?"
he pays attention to the laminated sheet once more, then looks up at me. "what's good here?"
i roll my eyes.
"what? did i say something wrong?" he's chewing on his straw.
"that's just like, the most annoying thing you could ever say to a waitress but, again i have nothing better to do." i grab the sheet from his hand and point out a couple things.
"if you're in the mood for breakfast food, the biscuits and gravy are good, if you like that sorta thing, our pancakes too, and my personal favorite is the french toast with a caramelized peach topping, but that takes some time if you're in a rush.." he's staring at me. "sorry I'm rambling, there's so much to choose from!"
"no don't worry about it, I'm enjoying listening to you talk. but no, i'm not in a breakfast kinda mood, sorry. you can keep going, if you'd like,"
i feel a blush creep onto my cheeks.
"..okay let's see here. for dinner, we've got our classic american burger, comes with your choice of fries or onion rings?"
"hmm.. no i'm not feeling a burger at the moment."
"how about a sandwich? we've got grilled cheese, turkey club, BLT, maybe a philly cheesesteak?"
he shakes his head no, so i keep going.
"fried chicken? or a salad? we've also got country fried steak."
"i think it's called chicken fried steak, sweetie." he smirked.
"mmm no actually, it's a country fried steak."
"no it's a chicken fried steak, because it's steak, fried like chicken."
"you know what, i don't even care, that's what you're eating, since you can't make up your mind. alright sweetie?"
"alright." more smirking.
"that comes with a side, what do you want?"
"what are my options?" he licks his lips again, eyeing me up and down.
"eyes up here, sir." i point to my face.
"you can do mashed potatoes, green beans, or a baked mac and cheese."
"i'll get the mashed potatoes, thank you sweetie." he says it without an attitude this time.
"okay great, give me a few minutes and i'll have that right out for you, okay?"
"okay," he replies as i hurry back to the kitchen, pulling out all the ingredients for his meal.
as i'm finishing up, i hear the bell chime again, indicating someone has either left or entered the diner.
i peek out the swinging kitchen door and see the man's seat empty. i hoped he didn't leave just as i was finishing preparing his meal.
i plate up the potatoes, then the steak, and smother it in gravy, then walk out to the counter, carefully setting his plate down where he was sat, then sitting on my stool the opposite side.
suddenly, he walks back in, running a hand through his hair.
"hey sweetie! sorry i didn't mean to make you think i left without paying. my brother was just calling to see where i was, so i stepped outside for a moment."
"that's alright, your foods out, and you know, we don't have to keep calling each other sweetie, you know my name, just tell me yours. "
"no i like it this way, it's nicer.” he takes a seat, grabbing his fork and knife, digging in.
"wow y/n this is amazing! normally i don't like this sort of food but wow, you really outdid yourself."
"oh hush, i just had to throw it in the fryer, don't give me the credit." i beamed at him.
"but i do have to clean up, so i'll see you in a bit, enjoy your meal." i winked at him.
"no, please. stay here, i don't like to eat alone. and i like the conversation."
"i really should go clean up-"
"miss (y/n), just a little company please?"
i can't say no to those eyes. "okay fine, i'll sit with you" i reply to him, returning to my seat on the stool.
"good. thanks, babe."
"so it's babe now?" i raised a brow at him.
"we'll play around with it, see what we like more." he takes another bite.
"you're a dork, you know that?"
"i can be your dork," he smiled at me some more.
"that was so corny, don't do that ever again. please, i'm going to vomit."
"ew, babe i'm eating. you shouldn't talk about vomit. it isn't very ladylike."
"but babe, i can't help that you made me nauseous," i pouted at him.
"i don't make you nauseous. you love me!" he pouted right back.
"babe we just met!"
"but you're calling me babe, babe." he grins up at me.
"you got me there. hey babe, you want another shake?"
"i'd love one,"
"okay, be right back!" i hop off the stool and run to the kitchen, hurriedly preparing another chocolate milkshake, extra cherries and whipped cream.
"here it is," i push out the swinging doors.
"a chocolate shake for you, sir," i giggle as i throw in another pink straw.
"you said i could pick! i wanted orange this time." he frowns at me.
"aw too bad, i forgot. sorry babe. but you get what you get, i can't be wasting straws, now, think of the turtles."
he laughed then proceeded to enjoy his shake.
"i can't believe i've never been here before. quality dinner and entertainment, that's quite hard to come by nowadays," he spoke.
"i didn't consider myself very entertaining, but thank you, we try our best here at Jo's." i beamed at him, sat up straight, then jokingly pointed to the "Jo's Friendliest Face of 2023" pin fastened to my apron.
"i was completely joking babe, but i'm honestly astounded that they gave you a pin for being such a dork! this is a proud boyfriend moment." he teased.
"i'm gonna be honest with you, my dad owns this place and i'm the only one who works here besides the cook. anyways, i stole this pin from my dads office to get more tips," i trailed off.
"so you're a liar and a thief, (y/n)?" he laughed.
"aw no more babe?" i pouted.
"you gotta earn it back," he smirked.
i rolled my eyes slightly.
“okay nevermind, i like it when you roll your eyes like that, babe.” he winked.
my jaw dropped at his comment, it wasn’t outright dirty but it was definitely implied.
“babe at least take me on a date first!” i laughed and lightly smacked his arm.
he chuckled and looked down at his plate, which was now bare.
“as much as i’d love to stay and chat, i’m needed elsewhere, but we can continue this conversation another time.” he grinned cheekily.
“alright sounds good, i’ll be right back with your check,”
“no that’s okay, here’s my card. you can just run it.” he handed me a debit card. i smiled sweetly at him and walked to the computer to charge him.
after running it, i flipped it over to read “CHRISTOPHER STURNIOLO” on it.
aw, chris.
i walked back over to him and placed the receipt back on the counter, along with his card and a pink pen with a fluffy pom pom on the end.
“what’s with you and pink, babe?” he smirked at me.
“i just think it’s cute, anyways, have a great night. thank you for stopping in and come back soon. i’ve enjoyed our conversation.”
he poked his cheek with his tongue as he watched me clear the counter of his plate, and walk back into the kitchen. i could feel him staring holes through my skirt.
i placed the dirty dishes in the sink and walked back out, but he was gone.
the receipt on the counter was filled out, and i hoped to see his phone number, because that was a normal thing in this industry, i never cared for it until now though.
unfortunately that was not the case. on his tab of $14.12 he had left fifty-seven cents. totaling to $14.69.
with a winky face by the sixty-nine.
what the fuck?
i ran outside hoping to catch him, and he was there, walking to his car.
“christopher!” i shouted in his direction.
he snapped his head around, and smirked.
“what’s up babe?”
“listen, i don’t normally come after people when they stiff me but what the fuck was all that for? you come in and smooth talk me and now you’re stiffing me, writing down sixty-nines and winky faces? is that how you normally treat service workers?” i got all up in his face.
“and then you made me feel like there was something! i thought i li-“
he grabbed my cheeks and pulled me toward him, kissing me passionately.
“don’t call me christopher please, it’s chris. no actually, babe. i don’t like all that formal shit.”
i didn’t even know how to respond.
i stepped back and smoothed out my apron and cleared my throat.
“um, i-i dont even know what to say.” i stared at the him.
“i was trying to piss you off. i can assure you i’m an excellent tipper. trust, babe. i wanted you to follow me out here, see how much you really liked me.”
he pulled his phone out and opened up a new contact, then handed the phone to me.
i grabbed it and typed in my number, shocked but so intrigued by him.
he grabbed it back and erased where i wrote my name and typed in “babe”.
he gave me another kiss, but just a peck this time.
“see you later babe.” he winked then slapped my ass before walking away.
i stood there dumbfounded, before running back into the diner and pressing my back against the door.
my phone buzzed and i pulled it from my apron pocket.
Tumblr media
The next morning you woke up before Jake as he had your back pressed to his chest and arm around you. You wiggled trying to get free, but his arm around you tightened. “Where do ya’ think yer goin’?”, he said, voice gravelly from sleep. You giggled but turned in his arms to face him only giggling harder at his hair sticking up in every direction. He smiled as you reached up and placed a kiss on his lips. “I was hoping to get up to start making breakfast”, you stated.
“I think breakfast can wait a little longer”, he said, then rolled so you were on your back and he could hover over you. He kissed you a couple times then moved down to your neck where he started to nip at your pulse. “Jake”, you say sternly. He laughed a little as he moved to where your neck and shoulder meet. He kissed there first then had you gasping when he sucked on the sensitive skin there.
His hands slowly crept up under your shirt to palm your right breast. You moaned and arched into his palm, but just as soon as he started he stopped. “Jake what…”, you whined. “Now darlin’ what about that breakfast?”, he inquired. “Breakfast can wait”, you replied. “Now darlin’ I’m thinking good ol’ biscuits and gravy”, he said. “I swear you’re a pain in the ass”, you huffed. He smiled and leaned down to kiss you then got up getting dressed and heading towards the kitchen.
You flopped back into the bed as you tried to steady your racing heart and the throbbing in your pussy. When you got dressed and made it into the kitchen Jake was already pulling out everything he needed to make homemade biscuits. “Oh no I’ll make the biscuits while you make the gravy”, you told him. “What if I gravy your biscuits later”, he says suggestively. You turn to glare at him as he laughs at his joke. You make the biscuits from scratch while Jake makes the gravy. Both of you are dancing around each other in the kitchen.
“Are you mad at me?”, Jake eventually asks. “No, just a little sexually frustrated”, you sigh. He laughs a little at that and you swear he likes to rile you up on purpose. You finish making breakfast and Jake makes your plate but starts heading to the back door telling you to follow him. When you make it out the back door there is a beautiful patio. He sets the plates down on a small table. “It’s so beautiful here. I don’t see how you could have ever left this place”, you say.
“Well when I turned eighteen I wanted to be anywhere but here”, he said. “Why is that? I mean if you don’t want to tell me that’s fine”, you say. “My dad wasn’t the kindest man and he was abusive towards my mother. If we stepped in to defend her we got it too. He wanted me…well he still wants me to take over the ranch since my sister won’t take it over. She didn’t want anything associated with his name so when she married Colton they took over his fathers ranch”, he explained.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that”, you apologized. “It’s in the past”, he tells you. You both eat breakfast as you hear a truck pull up. It was Colton, Evelynn, Annabelle and Georgia. “Hey Jake I was wondering if you all wouldn’t mind watching the kids while Colton and I go to the doctors”, Evelynn says. “Yeah that should be fine”, he says. “It may be okay with you but you didn’t ask (Y/N)”, Evelynn says. “It’s fine”, you reply.
Georgia immediately comes up and pulls on your pant leg so you hoist her up onto your lap as Annabelle tells Jake about everything she learned at camp last week. “Bicuits”, Georgia says. “Yes those are biscuits” you reply. “Bicuits peas”, Georgia speaks. “Do you want biscuits?”, you ask as Jake is watching you out of the corner of his eye. Georgia nods her head vigorously as you cut the biscuit into smaller pieces and offer her some. She eats each time you offer and Jake can’t help but smile.
“Can we go to the creek today?”, Annabelle asked. “Cweek cweek”, Georgia chanted. “I guess it’s okay as long as it’s okay with (Y/N)”, Jake said. “I would love to go to the creek”, you said. After you finished breakfast Jake loaded up the truck and got the girls in. On the way Georgia sat in your lap where she was content. Annabelle named any and every animal on the way. The creek was very wide and seemed more like a river than a creek, but you were hoping it would be cooling as the day was starting to get hotter.
Annabelle took off as Jake yelled after her to be careful. You picked Georgia up and started walking to the creek. “I can hold her if you don’t want to”, Jake said. You noticed he seemed eager to hold her so you passed her over. “Unc Jake wawa wawa”, Georgia pointed. “Yep we’re going”, he smiled. You watched him as he tickled her and blew raspberries falling even more in love with him. Georgia kicked wanting to be put down when they reached the waters edge, but Jake held fast.
“Not so fast squirt you gotta hold my hand when you go in so you don’t get hurt”, he said. Jake kicked off his shoes and socks rolling up his pant legs and went into the water holding Georgia’s hand. When Bradley had told you that Hangman was no good you didn’t expect this. It was like everything Bradley said was wrong. Sure you didn’t know how he acted when flying, but you had seen plenty of your dads friends. They often put on a show or acted tough, but deep down they would do anything for their squad mates and their families.
You soon kicked off your shoes and rolled your pants up to join them. Georgia splashing and soaking Jake’s and your pant legs, but you both didn’t mind as Annabelle called out about something in the water. “I’ll go check it out”, you said. Jake nodded as you made your way to Annabelle. “See it”, she said pointing. “I see it”, you reply. You reached in and pulled out a rusty horseshoe. “It must have been here for a while”, you say. You give it to Annabelle who runs to show Jake and Georgia what she found.
“Wow I bet that’s been in the water for a long time”, you hear Jake say. You smile as Annabelle runs to put it in the truck and comes back to look some more. Annabelle grins at you then proceeds to splash you with water. You fake a look of shock and start to splash her back and before you know it you’re both soaking wet laughing at how ridiculous you both look. “Well good thing it’s hot so our clothes will dry out”, you say.
Jake watches as you splash and play with Annabelle while he watches Georgia. Georgia turned and splashed him while he was too mesmerized by you. “Now you’ve done it”, Jake laughs. It pulls your attention as Jake lightly splashes Georgia. “It looks like Uncle Jake is picking on someone smaller than him. I think we should rescue your sister”, you say. “CHARGE!”, Annabelle yells. You both run towards Jake and Georgia and as Annabelle helps Georgia you collide with Jake taking you both down in a huge splash.
Georgia is squealing with laughter as Annabelle holds her stomach laughing. Jake looks up at you as he smiles. “I have you now”, you say dramatically. “Is that so”, Jake says with a raised brow and smirk. Confusion crosses your face until Jake reaches up and starts to tickle you. You screamed and tried to get away, but it didn't work. “Run.. save your…selves”, you cry out between laughs. “Come on Georgia, let's get him!”, Annabelle cries.
A moment later and you’re both getting splashed. Finally the girls get tired and head for the bank hand in hand. You look down at Jake as he is trying to catch his breath from laughing. “I thought I was done for”, he jokes. “Oh I don’t know I think you would have managed”, you giggle. He watches you for a moment then pulls you down for a quick kiss. “I think we should get the girls back to the house”, he says.
All four of you squeeze into the truck and set off for the house. Jake drives to Evelynn and Coltons house to get the girls into dry clothes. “(Y/N) will you help Georgia get dressed? I'm going to make some sandwiches for lunch”, Jake says. “Yeah come on Georgia”, you say. She automatically holds her hands up and you pick her up. Jake watches you pick Georgia up and boop her nose as she giggles, and he loves that you are so comfortable with his nieces. Jake can’t help but wonder how you would be when his nephew comes into the world.
You helped dress Georgia and when you made your way back to Jake Annabelle was talking to him. You stopped to listen to what they were saying. “When are you and (Y/N) gonna’ get married and have babies?”, Annabelle asked nonchalantly. Jake panicked when he saw you standing there with a wide smile on your face. “Well if your uncle Jake doesn’t mess up we might some day”, you said.
Jake relaxed but continued to watch you as a soft smile graced his face. “Sanwick sanwick”, Georgia called. You laughed as she made grabby hands at the plate that Jake had in his hands stacked high with sandwiches. “Not yet Georgia we’re gonna’ go back to our house”, Jake stated. He wrapped the plate in cling wrap then headed towards the truck much to Georgia’s dismay. Once back at the house Jake and you were staying in, that's when Jake put the plate on the table for everyone.
About an hour later Evelynn and Colton came back to get the kids. Georgia clung to your leg and cried not wanting to leave. “Georgia I’ll see you later I promise”, you tell her. Evelynn picks her up as she apologizes to you. You let her know it was okay and that they could bring the girls at any point in time. Jake and you waved as they headed back to the main house. “Now what?”, you asked. “Well we can go to the pond and go fishin”, he told you. “I’d like that”, you said.
Jake took you to the pond and you started setting up your reel. The fish were biting as you both sat on the tailgate. “What did you put under the seat earlier?”, you asked. “You’ll have to wait and see”, Jake told you. You fished until the sun started to set in the sky, and that’s when Jake went over to put some logs in a tipi type style. He got a fire started then grabbed a blanket from under the truck seat and sat it close to the fire. “I figured we could watch the sunset and then stay out a little tonight”, Jake told you.
You smiled and joined him by the fire where you both watched the sunset. “This is so beautiful”, you tell him as the sky is lit by oranges, pinks and purples. “It is but not as gorgeous as you”, he tells you. You look at him then lean in to share some long intimate kisses. Jake leaned back, taking you with him as you tucked yourself into his side. The stars came out and it was so clear you could see the milky way.
You watch as a shooting star goes across the sky and make a wish as you snuggle closer to Jake. “You know I never expected to ever bring someone here”, he voiced. “Whatt’a mean by that?”, you questioned. “I just don’t bring people out here often”, he whispers. You want to push him further, but decide against it. You started to yawn as the day with girls started to catch up with you. Jake smiled, noticing the sleepy look on your face and called it a night as he got up to put the fire out.
When you made it back to the house you and Jake showered and lay down for bed. It didn’t take long at all for you both to fall asleep. The peace of the night was shattered when you woke up screaming and falling out of the bed. Jake was awake in an instant and checked you over as you started to sob. “It’s alright darlin’ I’m here I’ve got ya”, he stated. He sat holding your head against his chest as you tried to breathe. “Listen to my voice darlin’ just breathe in slowly and out”, he talked you through it.
When your breathing regulated he took your face into his hands and thumbed away the remaining tears. “You want to talk about it?”, he questioned. You nod as he leads you to the kitchen looking through the cabinets until he finds chamomile tea. You watched him make the tea as you decided to share why you were screaming. “I was in a relationship with a great guy. Well at first he seemed like a great guy even though I felt like something was off with him. My friends adored him and got along with him great. Then he wanted to marry me and I felt it was too sudden and then he started showing signs of abusive behavior. The first time he hit me I figured it was my fault because I yelled at him”, you explained.
Jake’s jaw twitched as his blood boiled at the thought of anyone ever raising a hand at a woman, especially you. “Then it got to the point where I told him I was leaving. That very night I told him I was leaving in the morning. He put a pillow over my face and tried to suffocate me. I filed a restraining order, but it didn’t really help then that’s when I told Bradley and he told me to come out to stay with him. Every so often I have a dream where he tries to or does kill me”, you finish.
“Well good thing you are somewhere he can’t find you huh”, he says. “Yeah”, you reply, remembering that he knew you were staying in Bradley and Jake’s apartment. You weren’t ready to tell him yet, and you're pretty sure that by putting your gun in your ex’s face scared him off. You drank the tea when it cooled and Jake walked you back to the bedroom. He pulled you in close and kissed the top of your head. “I want you to know I will never raise a hand at you”, he promised.
That’s how you fell asleep tucked as close as possible to him. He was glad that you felt safe enough with him to share your experience with him. He was falling deeper and deeper in love with you and to be honest it scared the shit out of him. The last time he let someone this close it ended badly, but you would never do the things his ex had done. He listened to your breathing for a while until he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Not waking up until noon the next day was amazing. Jake was out and you watched him for a moment, but when you moved you brushed against his morning wood. A naughty little thought popped into your head at that moment and you decided you were going to go through with it. You slid under the covers and pulled him out of his boxers. No hesitation you took the head of his cock into your mouth and licked the underside of his head.
Jake groaned as you continued and took him further into your mouth sucking hard. “Holy shit (Y/N)”, you heard him as he woke. You hummed which only intensified what you were currently doing. He bucked his hips up and hit the back of your throat, but you took it like a champ. “Darlin’ I’m gonna cum”, he rasped. You quickened your pace as a string of curses flew from his lips. “Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck”, he continued. You stopped abruptly and he threw the blanket back to see you grinning up at him.
“Come on then baby take what you want”, you told him. You opened your mouth and his hands automatically went to your hair. “You sure darlin’?”, he gasped. You hummed your approval as you took him back into your mouth and hollowed your cheeks. Jake controlled your movements as he thrust up into your mouth. He was falling apart and you knew he was close because of how often he was twitching. You relaxed your throat as he pulled you all the way down on him. “Ohhhhhh fuck”, he cursed as he came.
He relaxed his muscles and you looked up at him as he tried to catch his breath. You sucked hard and moved causing him to shudder as you continued your small ministrations. “Nonono no more (Y/N)! Too… Ah..sensitive”, he ground out. You pulled off with a pop making him shudder again and that’s when he pulled you up to kiss him. It was hot and fast as he flipped you onto your back and got between your legs. He pulled your underwear off and tossed them somewhere in the room.
He gave you no warning as he dove in to suck your clit into his mouth. You cried out as he continued his onslaught of eating you out. He would alternate between kissing licking and sucking your clit into his mouth. “Jake ohshitplease I’m getting close!”, you screamed. He smirked knowing what he was doing to you. He then stopped what he was doing and slipped two fingers into you.
“Holy shit darlin’ your so fucking wet. Gonna’ make you feel good sweetheart”, he groaned. He started pumping his fingers as he sucked on your clit and flicking it with his tongue. “Shitshitshit Jake I’m OHFUCK!”, YOU YELLED. You came hard and you felt a rush of wetness as your vision went black and little sparks of light showed behind your eyelids. You finally came down from your high and looked down at Jake who was still licking you clean until you pushed him away from being overstimulated. When he pulled away you saw the wetness coating his chin then you could feel it on the sheets below you.
“Damn darlin’ I think that’s the fastest I have ever made anyone squirt before”, he said. He grinned as you seemed embarrassed. “I’m sorry I didn’t know what was happening”, you said. “No don’t apologize that was hot as fuck”, he told you. “We should get ready for the day. We need a shower”, Jake mused. You had never had a man make you cum that fast before. While you both showered you shared lazy kisses. “Maybe next time we can go the full eight second ride”, you joked.
“Yeah maybe”, he responded. When you both made it out of the shower and got dressed there was a knock on the door. It was Colton, Annabelle and Georgia wanting to know if you all wanted to go horse riding to bring in some cows. You both agreed and couldn’t wait to see Jake ride a horse. You both rode in the back of the truck on the way to the barn. When you saw the barn and all the horses you felt like you were in heaven. Jake loved seeing you light up over the horses and Colton nodded to him. He would never tell you that he set this up on purpose. It would be his little secret.
Saffron sits at the dining table with Connor nibbling on Camembert and Brie and Gruyère and cubes of aged cheddar on water cracker biscuits while Helene wafts around the kitchen and tosses random questions in her direction: What classes do she and Connor take together? What are her plans when she leaves school? Does she have any brother or sisters? Are her parents still together?
“Mum. You’re being too nosey,” says Connor, his grey eyes cold as granite.
“But isn’t that the reason you brought Saffron here tonight? So we could get to know her?”
“Yeah, Connor,” says Saffron. “Your mother’s allowed to ask questions. And no, my parents aren’t together. But I still see my Dad quite often. He and Mum have new partners now.”
“And do you all get along?” says Helene.
“No way. My mother loathes Dad’s girlfriend,” says Saffron. “The feeling’s pretty mutual, actually.“
“I find family dynamics to be so fascinating,” says Helene, stooping to pull a dish from the oven. A rich aroma of gravy and meat and onions floods the air. ”Especially when there’s drama involved.”
“Well, you’d be fascinated by my mother, then,” says Saffron, grimacing at an olive. “She’s a magnet for drama.”
“Your mother’s great,” says Connor, a hint of reproval in his voice. Saffron snorts.
“What does she do?” says Helene.
“She’s a cop.”
“Ah!” says Helene. “Then of course her life would be full of drama!”
Saffron can’t be bothered telling Helene that Anita is only going back to work on Monday after having been on extended leave for several years, or that all the petty drama in Anita’s life is self-inflicted. So she tosses another sliver of cheese into her mouth and says nothing.
“Dinner’s ready,” says Helene. “Connor, do you want to go and see if your father’s still on his call?”
But before Connor can get to his feet his father is descending the stairs, a handsome man even taller than Connor with thick greying hair and a prickly five o’clock shadow. He smiles at Saffron.
“Hello,” he says. “I’m Tom. And you must be Saffron.”
“Yes. Nice to meet you," says Saffron. She notices that Connor stares straight ahead as Tom sits down at the table.
“Connor, help your mother serve the dinner,” says Tom, still smiling at Saffron. “And get me a beer while you’re up, would you?”
Hello random person I follow, I just wanted to share in the squirrel meat trauma. I am from rural PA so it’s northern Appalachia. 1. One time my cousin ate raw squirrel meat as a kid and it was so nasty and she threw up so much she’s been a vegetarian ever since. She was five. Now she’s 34. 2. Cooked squirrel is…not great. I know you know this. I know this too. Intimately. 3. One time in high school a boy that sat by me in homeroom brought me a squirrel pelt for my birthday. He shot it that morning and just brought it to me in a big ziplock bag of salt to get the skin to dry out. He was a pretty normal guy. He’s an even more normal guy now. Sells insurance. Upper middle class. Bland as shit. What kind of hillbilly nonsense was that. 4. Now I live in a big city and am still the kind of nuts food hoarder that has a chest freezer in my apartment so I can have a shit ton of like, venison cabbage rolls and venison pierogi and frozen fresh corn and berries for pies and shit on hand because my hillbilly ass grandmothers drilled into me that you had to stock up for winter or your family might go hungry. I live alone. I’m never going hungry.
Omg. I think my grandpa made my cousin eat a squirrel heart once in line with tradition (or threatened to) but consuming raw mammal meat fills me with dread. High school home room boy was obviously trying to bring you dead animal parts to win your affection like a cat. We were a canning family, meat went in the freezer and fruit and veg got canned. And jerky. SOOO much venison jerky. I miss having a freezer full of venison but my grandpa has dementia and my uncle is in poor health so all of the hunters in my family no longer hunt. Also I’m terrified of chronic wasting disease, I know they say it isn’t transferable to humans but jfc prion diseases scare me.
People on that post are asking what squirrel tastes like and I’m like. The taste is not the major problem, the texture is. It tastes gamey and it’s stringy and dry. I’m sure it’s better in things like gumbos and other assorted stews but my grandmother only prepared it pan fried with white gravy and mash potatoes because my grandpa is a picky eater, and it was NASTYYYYYY. Walking in to find my grandma making biscuits and sausage gravy was like hitting the lottery, waking in to find my grandma making venison and gravy was okay, squirrel and gravy day was a travesty.
September 1982
“I hate boys.”
You let yourself into the Munson household by using the spare key "hidden" underneath the 'Welcome' mat on their front porch. It's become a little habit of yours to barge into their home.
Wayne sits on the couch with the television on far too loud for anyone with a normal hearing range. Unfortunately for him, Eddie has left him nearly deaf with all of that noise coming from his room. It would have been a quiet evening by himself with Eddie out at band practice, but Wayne should know better by now that you'll show up like you live here.
When you plop down next to Wayne, he doesn't hesitate to offer the plate of food he's just dished up for himself. He wrestles with his age to get off the couch, then walks through the kitchen to find a new plate.
“Thanks,” you chew through a dry biscuit. Wayne says he likes the outside crispy, but you’re sure that he will be down to nothing but gums when these rocks break his teeth off soon.
Wayne rounds the kitchen island with a brand new plate of food for himself, and an extra napkin for you to hold under your chin. Although he knows very little about clothes, he can see the shine still on that new blouse of yours. He would hate to see you ruin it with some gravy and a bucket of fried chicken.
Wayne sits down again next to you, “Eddie isn’t here.”
You sniffle over the pile of mashed potatoes, “I know.”
Dressed up like you’ve got somewhere to go and you have no one to take you there, Wayne can make a guess of why you might be here.
“What happened?” Wayne nudges you.
You’ve got on the nicest pair of pants you own with a bright blue top and a pair of kitten heels. You’ve taken your mother’s jewelry, which Wayne is sure she’s not pleased about.
“Isn’t that your mom’s necklace?” Wayne asks dumbly.
You cross your arms. “Rodney ditched me.”
“Who?”
Kids these days and their drama. Wayne can hardly keep up with Eddie, and now he’s got you here crying on his couch. You’re hardly a bother anymore. It’s more bizarre when you’re not here eating his food, watching his television and napping on his couch.
“Rodney said we’d go out Friday at seven,” you tell Wayne. “It’s Friday. It’s eight. No Rodney.”
Wayne could not imagine disrespecting a young woman like that. You've got to be out of your mind if you think making a promise like that can just be tossed out of a window.
“I’m sorry, kiddo,” he pats your knee. “Want me to kick his ass?”
Wayne’s become a father figure to you in a way, since you don't have one. Your mom refuses to tell you anything about the man that got her knocked up. That's a direct quote from what she says. You're not being rude.
“No,” you let a soft laugh sneak past your sorrowed heart.
Wayne's television hums. You watch the wheel spin onto one hundred dollars, and the contestant cheers as she gets to guess another letter.
“Brook Shields,” you guess the answer.
Wayne cocks his head at you, “how did you get that so fast?”
You shrug, “I’ve seen Endless Love.”
“Endless- what?”
“Keep up old man,” you joke.
Wayne grunts, “not you too. I get enough of that shit from Eddie.”
You sit with Wayne that evening with dry eyes, except for the occasional tear falling from laughing a bit too hard at his bewildered expression when you fill in nearly all of the answers to the game show he loves so much.
“What are you going to do with that brain of yours?” Wayne asks as the program nears the end, and the screen begins to dim.
You shrug your shoulders, “I don’t know.”
“You’ll go to college though, won’t you?”
“I can hardly afford groceries,” you reply.
It is an honest answer. Your mom is out of a job, aside from her new night time prowling. She tries to sneak out while you’re tucked into your blankets in your bed. It doesn’t always pan out that way. You’ve heard the heels clicking in the kitchen, before she leaves into the night time.
She’s back before you wake up. And, she’ll take you off to school before she goes to bed for most of the morning. You can only assume this by the way she’s dressed in pajamas without any makeup when you come home.
Wayne watches from afar. Your mom has been stepping back in their friendship recently, and he wonders if everything is okay at home. When he does catch glimpses of her through the living room window, she's a bit gray and a bit dull. Her usual cherry cheeks are sunken. Her eyes are swollen. Her clothes are scandalous in her own definition.
A flood of headlights break through the blinds in the Munson trailer. If the lights aren’t enough to warn you that Eddie is about to plow through his front door, then the absolute deafening sound of bass and guitar blasting through the speakers in his van would give you enough of an inclining.
Kicking his boots off in different directions outside the home, Eddie stamps out his cigarette on the porch railing, and he flicks the nub somewhere into the night.
Dancing his way into the trailer, Eddie first catches you sitting next to Wayne in a bright blue get-up. Isn’t it a bit much to be that done up for some boy? Yes, he knows about Rudolph. That silly little boy from one of your classes. He’s been following you around like he’s got a leash tethered around that funny little sweater vest he wears to school. Really? A sweater vest? It’s a bit pompous if you ask him.
Randy has got to be the most snot-nosed booger-eater that Eddie has had the misery of meeting. He’s got these judgy little eyes that squint in Eddie’s direction any time you hang around him at lunch. Not to mention how bushy his eyebrows are. If you like caterpillars that much, Eddie can find you one around the trailer park that you’ll like much more than - what’s-his-name.
“How was your date?” Eddie hesitates to hold back to venom corroding his teeth. It’s silly to be jealous of some guy. Eventually you would be with someone, and Eddie would find his someone. It’s just strange to not have you at band practice. You haven’t missed a single one - well, now you have.
Your face falls at the mention of Rodney.
In the past few hours, you forgot about the ache in your chest that Rodney never showed at your front door. The absent sore on your heart reopens. Your throat closes a bit.
There was a pinch of hope that you held onto that he might show up with a reasonable excuse. Or, he’ll at least be bold enough to show up and to beg for a second chance. With the time approaching midnight, the odds are withering away into nothing.
“Good,” you fib.
Naively, you lie to Eddie.
“How was practice?” You ask secondly.
A spark lit his bottom on fire and he was bounding about the trailer like a wild animal. Excitement radiates off of his skin.
“You won’t believe what happened tonight!” He yells a bit too loudly for old Wayne, who wiggles his pinky into his ear. “We got a call back from the Hideout! They want to see us perform!”
“That’s great, Eddie!”
“Congratulations, kid.”
Wayne has to stand and clap Eddie on the back to congratulate his nephew. The pair of them look to each other adoringly, before either of them remember that you’re still there on the couch.
“I should go,” you know how late it is, and your mother - er - she would be shivering in worry by now. Probably. “I’m really proud of you, Eddie. Can I come to the show?”
“There’s no way I can perform without my best girl,” he wraps you in a strong hug, “Tuesday at seven! I want both of you there!”
“You got it,” you punch his chest a bit awkwardly.
When you do leave, Eddie takes the spot you once sat in on the couch. He switches programs because whatever game show Wayne is watching is not to Eddie’s taste. Eddie prefers something that will make his skin crawl.
“Ed,” Wayne clears his throat, “I think we should talk.”
“Talk?”
Wayne stands in front of the television blocking Eddie from flicking to yet another channel.
“Your little friend got stood up on her date,” he teeters back and forth, unsure if you want Eddie knowing this. But, you’re his best friend as far as Wayne is concerned.
Eddie frowns, “what?”
“She’s been with me all evening,” Wayne sighs. “The poor girl is rattled. I mean- you know you cannot do that to a woman, right?”
Wayne begins to turn everything into a lesson. As he lectures Eddie, the lines of reality begin to blur. You’ve been stood up by this douche? Nothing gets past Eddie like that. The ridges of his knuckles turn whiter than snow.
“Eddie,” Wayne scratches his forehead, “I need you to promise me that you’ll never treat a woman like that. You know better, right?”
Eddie hasn’t brought a girl by the house yet. It doesn’t occur to Wayne how horrible the people treat Eddie at school. He assumes it’s just a bit of play and a bit of teasing. Eddie can handle himself for the most part.
“Yeah,” Wayne snaps out of his head when Eddie finally speaks up, “I got it, Wayne.
Sooo I am from the Southern United States,and so I can't help but picture Konig having to deal with a Southern!Wifey.
One thing Konig will have to get used to, if his little wife is Southern,is her food and drinks. She will make Biscuits and Gravy(White Gravy) and drink Sweet Iced Tea by the gallon. Also,if she is the home maker he will learn he can not set foot in her kitchen while she is cooking otherwise he will be put to work. "Oh handsy hmm? Well if you have energy to be handsy you can peel potatoes,shuck corn,and shell some peas now can't you?"
He will never go hungry,or have to worry about her defending herself. Nothing is scarier than an angry southern woman with a cast iron pan in her hand.
Sorry if this like came from no where,I just don't see a lot of southerner rep in COD headcanons or stories and sorta just wanted to share my thoughts!
Hi!! Omg sometimes I forget that Americans are real, it's sounds so cool!! Konig is FOLDED. Southern wifey actually goes really well with his traditional values and how he perceives his possible wife-to-be. He was raised on the belief that a true Austrian woman should always care about home, cooking, going to church etc, and be ready to face the attackers with her own powers - so when his adorable wifey from overseas cooks for him, takes care of him, all with that cute accent of hers...poor guy is ready to get USA citizenship and buy a farm in the midwest. He loves your food! He is a big boy and he needs meat, and he would gladly sacrifice his time to cook with you just so he could get an opportunity to grop your ass and steal a few kisses while you are too busy with doing the meat. Someone is trying to harass you and before Konig could step up, you already defeated the attacker?? Omg he wishes he could marry you a second time..... He is a bit of a cringe cowboy fan because he is a loser who was reading that very old western and exported Italian cowboy movies, so he still thinks of you as a bit of a cowgirl...he would silently push a hat to your direction, but would actually fucking die if you'd wear it.
