if there ever were a victim of the writing in this game it would be camellya
i did not enjoy her story at all and there felt like nothing there
you could have excluded her from the story and it would have added and subtracted nothing
except how ✨freaky✨ she was
Warning for below the cut: I criticize Camellya's companion quest cause I have opinions and I want to talk about them. These are my opinions and POV.
If you like Camellya and her story quest, I'm glad! I'm happy you could enjoy something that I could not.
nah im actually kind of upset cause i wanted to like her but her character i so cookie cutter yandere i hated it
she feels like they tried to replicate scar and then just dove too hard into the yandere stuff not to mention like
her obsession with rover still feels unwarranted, still feels like it was forced in place.
and i think the biggest issue with that is we really dont see enough times of her observing him from a distance, or making the obsession feel less rushed. they had written everything like she was always there and always had this obsession but it just doesn't feel right.
i know i've touched on the topic of dark romance and all that, and i feel like camellya's story quest is exactly all the problems i have with dark romance and "yandere types".
she isn't interesting, hardly enough to really warrant her presence actually being here or being tied to rover.
she had (1) scene of intrigue when we first meet her before we officially know too much about the black shores back in jinzhou, and her interest in rover was strange, interesting, and had me wondering what the fuck was up with her and the black shores.
camellya did not have enough time with rover for this to warrant much thought or reaction from her character quest. like good for her, you go girl, glad you're able to move on from your past but you did not need me here for any of it besides plot convenience.
i really, really wish they had her play a much heavier role in the main quest of the black shores, as that would have given us far more time with her and for her intrigue to keep going.
it's actually infuriating how much potential was wasted here! i want to know more about her, but i dont want to have to pull a thousand hundred times to get her just to find out about her or go read a wiki to understand anything.
her connection to rover, at best, is loose. rover is shown to only have kept her close cause he was the only one who could keep her in check. her whole being revolves around rover existing at all to be here, and that kind of makes it a shitty story in some regards. she's like .. if shorekeeper but "yandere" type.
i don't like shorekeeper or camellya's design, but between the two, i felt like shorekeeper had the stronger connections and understanding how she and rover intertwine.
camellya felt like an after thought, like they had the idea of making someone on the "good side" be fully and totally "obsessed with rover to the lengths of being a yandere" but just had no idea how to tie that in properly with her character quest and rover themself, who is still learning of their own ownership and relations to black shores.
camellya just does not feel like a character at all, individually or in reference to rover, and that's kind of depressing for her cause i liked her first introduction to us, i was intrigued with the potential story and how sketchy she felt when we did first meet her, how she feels so much like she belongs on the fractsidus side but is a black shores' member and why black shores would even bother keeping her around.
also this line is bullshit from the somnoire quest everything about her character is so poorly written and im deeply upset they did her so dirty to just turn her into gooner content.
i couldn't stop looking at yinlin's chest every time i used her liberation but at least her story had me invested from the moment i started it.
#wuwa#wuthering waves#i really did not like her im afraid#her story was bland#her design is too fanserviced like shorekeeper's#and nothing about her chemistry with rover actually feels like it belongs#scar had better build up with rover#and he isn't even playable#he's not even relevant in the story at this point
