Have you ever thought about how fucked up it must've been for Jason's friends (Dana, Numbers, Max, etc.) during his death/Lost Days/UtRH years? Because think about it
Your friend who you knew was desperate enough to steal because of a multitude of bad things happening to him in your very short life was suddenly adopted by one of the richest men you know in Gotham who had previously taken in a young boy and you already don't really trust that man (because you're poor kids in Gotham, of course you don't trust billionaires, especially ones who seem nice, they're the ones you have to look out for)
Things seem to be okay but you don't hear from him that often anymore. When you do hear from him he sounds tired and you're not sure but you see weird bruises popping up. You're worried, but he's doing well in school, Wayne seems to be treating him well, he seems happy, so you don't look into it.
And then after a few years, him and Wayne are fighting, things aren't looking good, he says he's worried he's gonna be kicked out soon, and you're not sure how to help. The last time you've talked to him he says he's found his biological mother (what about Catherine???) and is travelling to meet her.
All of a sudden you hear that he's dead???? But no one can confirm and no one can reach Wayne about it but from what you do hear is that he was killed in a freak accident when traveling for volunteer work or a school trip (which is weird because he told you about the trip for his mom? and the last time you talked to him he sounds so distressed....) And this seems like a cover story but you can't confirm it but the whole thing makes you suspicious and makes you a little sick.
You can't even check to see if there's a grave because if there was the grave and the funeral was on private property, so you can't see. All you can do is grieve for a friend you're pretty sure is dead but you can't even make sure because Wayne's not talking to anyone about it. But after some time has passed he seems to keep living his life as if nothing has happened (even though there's no sign of Jason anywhere)
A couple years go by. You live your life, it's not perfect but things are better. You still don't like/trust Wayne, you never did, and the absence of Jason just made it worse. Suddenly Jason just....pops back up??? No real explanation except for some vague answers, the death was only a "rumor," it seems that he's been through some shit (but haven't you all?) and things are at best strained with Wayne (although with how much you don't like the man, you really don't mind).
Jason's changed, but he's still so nice. Still has the same sense of humor, still has those manners your parents always talked about, is still just Jason in so many ways. But you can tell something's happened, he won't tell you what, but there's something there that you can put your finger on. He's put you through a lot, but aren't you just grateful to have him back? (When he tells you what actually happened, you don't want to believe it because you don't want all of that to have happened to your friends, but it makes sense, and it horrifies you)
Anyways this is my way of saying to bring back Jason's pre-Robin friends and actually deal with the ramifications of his death and subsequent years outside of the Batfamily.
