Their love didn't stop Suguru from leaving. It didn't prevent Riko from dying, it didn't save Satoru from getting killed, it didn't stop Suguru from murdering his parents and an entire village, it didn't stop them from growing apart, it didn't stop Suguru from becoming a cult leader, it didn't stop Satoru from avoiding Suguru so he wouldn't have to kill him, it didn't stop Suguru from dying it didn't stop Satoru from killing him it didn't convince Satoru to cremate Suguru's body it didn't stop Kenjaku from stealing Suguru's body it didn't stop Satoru from freezing and hesitating it didn't stop Satoru from getting sealed it didn't fix anything, and yet it was still there.

It's not that they didn't love each other enough, because they did. They loved each other so so much, maybe a little too much, and yet it wasn't enough. It's a tragedy because their meeting doomed them both. The love was there — it wasn't enough.
