no and like i'm sorry the end line is a bit cheesy but the fact that it's thrown away as like "movie made him say something and then he changes his mind two scenes later" makes me want to claw my eyes out like the movie very clearly states that peter doesn't just have a responsibility to be there for civilians as spider-man but that he also has a responsibility as peter to be there for his loved ones and that scene is about peter refusing to push someone away and make himself miserable just cause someone could get hurt

#putting this in the tags because this is just me musing and like it's less true #but like I know he promised captain stacey but I don't see it as him contradicting himself #like obviously captain stacey was saying that because he wanted to keep Gwen safe #and when Peter makes that promise you see the funeral scene where he's clearly pushing Gwen away #but then after he clearly realizes what he's doing #and like I don't think it has to be explicitly shown when they've already showcased that theme #like maybe they could've done a bit of a better job but it's also not some like random idea that's there for the first time
