‘Now and Then’ by Klaus Voorman (2024)
‘My friend Svenne Hellsten from Stockholm asked me to paint something on his bass drum skin. He wanted me to create something to commemorate “Now And Then,” the very last Beatles song there will be. The song is based on an old cassette tape which contained a John Lennon demo from way back. Paul and Ringo took this cassette tape, went to a studio, and with a little help from Artificial Intelligence, managed to form this very rough cassette tape into this little ditty.
My idea was to show the Beatles from the early days in Liverpool and Hamburg up to today. Because the bass drum skin turned out so nice, I thought, why not make an art print of it?
Here it is!’

Happy birthday to Klaus Voormann! “[T]here was a certain spiritual kinship between [George] and myself. I felt like he attended to me especially. He always wanted to know everything about me. He registered my shyness and always tried to push me forward. He could look deep into my heart, and if he discovered something that was troubling me, he was already working on eradicating it.” - Klaus Voormann, translated from Warum spielst du Imagine nicht auf dem weißen Klavier, John? (2003) “He would make me presents at Christmas - an Indian carpet with animals on it, a Champ amplifier, a Fender Precision fretless bass, a T-shirt with Crazy Kraut written on it. I loved him. He was a great person. I miss him.” - Klaus Voormann, MOJO, November 2014 “George Harrison was my favorite person, I loved him more than anything.” - Klaus Voormann, Typisch Deutsch, Deutsche Welle, 2009 “We were having a break after a walk, resting in the grass when suddenly he looked at me and said: ‘Do you know that it has taken me many, many years until I realized how special these meadows with their soft grasses are to me? Somehow I feel we have a very close relationship. I just love the seemingly endless meadows with their long and soft grasses and the waves they make when the wind is blowing. It’s like cherishing the wind of life rather than struggling against it all the time. So, Klaus, when I’m gone, all you have to do is stand in a meadow, feel the waving grass and I will be close to you.’” - Klaus Voormann (on his last visit with George in 2001), voormann.com (x)
