my favorite part of being hyperfixated on pokemon is when i assume stuff is common knowledge like. you mean to tell me it's not common knowledge that oddish and kabutops canonically have scientific names (oddium wanderus and kabutops maximus iirc)-

Pokemon Scarlet - Day 9
First thing in the morning, I went into the Gym building. Nemona called me and said she was in the area so she met up with me. She challenged me to a battle, talking about how important it was to scope out the Gym’s battlefield, but… there wasn’t a battlefield in town so we just fought on the sidewalk outside the Gym building.
She also had her Pokemon leveled only to the low 20s, so I don’t know how she was surviving the area since the lowest wild Pokemon were in the high 20s.
Once that very easy battle was out of the way, I approached the counter and got to see what my actual challenge was.
Turns out it was to figure out what the secret menu item was at the local famous restaurant. I was given a clue and several other challengers were given clues as well. Of course, these clues were to the location of other clues which let you know what to say.
I beat all the trainers and pushed my team’s levels up to the low-mid 30s before I got all the clues and ordered the correct item. Having said the right code, the main floor of the restaurant was cleared out, becoming a battlefield. That’s where the battlefield was the whole time, I guess. Definitely could not have scoped that out, Nemona!
The Gym Leader, Larry, was the most dead-inside looking salaryman. He did put up a good fight, though, despite the fact that Mint evolved into Meowscarada and that’s the Pokemon I gave a Fighting-type move to. I ended the battle giving Naclstack the spotlight against Larry’s Staraptor, though.
After I won and secured my third Gym Badge and and sixth badge overall, Geeta, chairwoman of the Pokemon League, introduced herself. I don’t remember much of what she said but I did note that she had a lot of hair. And then more classes opened up at the academy, so I’m doing that next.
There were additional classes for every subject, including midterms. Naturally, I passed every midterm with flying colors, though I did retake the earlier History classes to study. A few of the teachers also had something to say around the school. The Math teacher in particular feels like someone is watching her, though I didn’t see anyone looking in her direction when I investigated.
I forgot to mention a couple of other evolutions - Gible has been Gabite for a few days, and last night Soren evolved into Talonflame.
Now that Mint is part Dark-type, Lokix seems redundant. While I don’t particularly need anything, I would feel more comfortable with some defense against Dragon-type attacks, so a Steel- or Fairy-type would be welcome.
I realized I had a Metal Coat from the auctions and a Scyther to evolve, but it’s a trade evolution. While the guide for the starter and “no location” Pokemon didn’t list trade evolutions, the codes listed were just the Pokemon’s Pokedex numbers. I tried Scizor’s Pokedex number twice, and sure enough, someone else had the same idea. Their name was in Chinese, but there was no communication necessary. We offered our Scyther holding Metal Coats, traded, then offered the Scizor back and traded. I was expecting to potentially lose my Scyther, but I got it back!
And hey, it’s Steel-type, so on the team it goes. Sorry Lokix! Your companionship was useful early on, but I had no idea both you and Mint would evolve into the same type.
