It's literally the only way I can see it. This as a ship makes less than zero sense to me, but as exes? Absolutely, yes. With the bizarre anger hatred she has for him and his mostly apathetic response to it. Acceptable when done this way, and this way only.

i thinj that the idea of drayton and carmine being exes is so funny to me. they never bring it up because at this point everyone fucking knows. when the protag and drayton go on their silly cafeteria date the protag asks "why DOES carmine hate you so much" and drayton's like "oh she's my ex" with absolutely no hint of hatred or longing whatsoever in his voice like he just casually brings it up everyday and the protag is like "oh. yeah i figured."
