hey, sorry this took so long for me to respond to! but yeah i did also in fact get into eve because of osomatsu san utaite covers!!! but my series of events was a bit different from yours lol:
i watch osomatsu san for the first time in late 2017. this changes the trajectory of my life forever
i really liked the opening and ending songs so i would listen to them all the time, and eventually one day youtube recommends me the ososan hitorinbo envy cover. i immediately become obsessed.
i also end up listening to matryoshka, dream eating monochrome baku, corpse dance, paradichlorobenzene x antichlorobenzene, and also red purge (it's really funny that you don't like it bc i really do T_T lol) and many others. these cement themselves into my music taste and they never leave.
fast forward six years, it is now august 2023. i get back into osomatsu san, and end up finding some more utaite covers that become my favorites (idola no circus, sarishinohara, hibikase, kagerou daze). i also revisit some old ososan edit compilations that i had saved on a really big playlist of mine where its just videos that i really liked from 2017 to 2020
and there's an edit of ichimatsu with dramaturgy (it was a cover of it though, and i have never found that cover yet which makes me really sad bc like ITS A REALLY GOOD COVER from like the four seconds ive heard of it lol)
but anyway, i looked it up and was like, "oh its a song called dramaturgy by eve, huh? .....i wonder of there's a ososan cover of it" (bc i would only listen to ososan covers of songs lol)
and so i listened to the ososan cover of it and instantly fell in love
i looked up the individual covers that were stitched together to see if i could find the one cover that was featured in the ichimatsu edit (sadly it wasn't), and the assigned voice for osomatsu was the original eve version of the song
i listened to it and was like "oh wait i really like this by itself too"
and then i became obsessed with kukuru (i love him so much he's my fave <3)
and then i worked my way through eve's channel over the next month or so and found all my favorite songs! (last dance, tohiko, how to eat life, tokyo ghetto, literary nonsense, fuyukan (!!! which i actually might make a kara no koiku oc based off of that song ^_^), and more recently insomnia! (i actually listened to it before the music video came out and it didn't really click with me? but then i listened to it again when the mv came out and it became an instant fave lol) i have more faves but those are the ones i can name off the top of my head ^^;
and yeah! that's how i became obsessed with eve :)
that post you made about how watching osomatsu san in 2017 created a domino effect that led you to becoming an eve fan is making me crazy because. that's literally exactly what happened to me šŸ˜šŸ˜ i would love to know the order of events for you bc maybe we had very similar experiences lololol. anyway also just had to say that im happy to have found other eve fans! seeing ur posts on my dash is a treat :)
Omg mdkdkdkf Iā€™m glad someone finally asked! Oks so itā€™s really complicated bc even tho ososan was the catalyst for it, it developed slowly in 2013
The timeline of events is pretty much this:
I started watching Fullmetal Alchemist (the 03 anime) in 2013 and I hated it. Moved to Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood a week after and absolutely loved it.
A few months after this I started watching Fairy Tail
I learned that both FMA and FT had character songs. In the past, animes usually had songs where the seiyuuā€™s would sing in character which is not common now. Back then I thought it was common, to me every anime had character songs
Fast forward to 2014, my fave YouTuber at the time had a Hatsune Miku poster and called her his wife. I decided to give her a listen
I became obsessed with World is Mine, Romeo and Cinderella, Redial and Tell Your World all by Miku
Fast forward to 2017, I watched ososan season 1 for the first time
Knowing that FMA and FT had character songs I thought ososan also had them
I did learn thatā€™s not the case BUT I also learned people would take bits of utaite covers (I didnā€™t know what they were at the time) and put ososan fanarts on them to make them look like character songs
This is how I discovered Rolling Girl, Hitorinbo Envy, Matryoshka, Hibikase, Sweet Devil and probably the most important one here Red Purge. The ososan Red Purge was awful but it lead me to Reolā€™s cover of it
I immediately fell in love with Reolā€™s voice and songs and that motivated me to listen to more jp music
While this was happening, I would occasionally search for more ososan ā€œcharacterā€ songs which also lead me to Kagerou Daze, which also made me obsessed with Kagepro
Kagepro songs eventually led me to an English cover singer called Jubyphonic at some point of 2018. Her voice was terrible but there were like 2 or 3 covers I liked
She uploaded a cover of Tokyo Ghetto and it was awful, so awful I decided to look for the original
The way the first sentence of that song is sung made me realize almost immediately I wanted to follow this man to the end of the world
And thatā€™s how watching ososan on 2017 made become an Eve fan uwu quite the domino effect isnā€™t it?
Iā€™m now curious how it went for you bestie šŸ‘€

Some things from Prey (2017) that make me go absolutely insane (based off my recent twt ramblings)
the fact that the player character is asian. itā€™s not a choice. the default isnā€™t a white guy. you literally are a mixed-race asian person & thatā€™s IT.
(and also like yeah, smth smth hints of yellow peril whenever the only asian rep we get also comes with scifi futuristic evil unethical-experimenting tech corporations, but WHATEVER, it still made me extremely happy to see so much diversity & representation in a cool rpg)
the fact that mikhailaā€™s gender doesnā€™t change so i, a queer half-asian woman, found myself playing a canonically queer half-asian woman. the joy was real.
the WORK put in by devs to make TALOS I genuinely feel like a place people worked and lived in. the ttrpg sessions in the rec room. the whiteboards scrawled with both scifi mumbo-jumbo & dumb jokes from bored scientists goofing around. reminders of garbage days & food in the fridge. mr. glooey mcglooface. the entire existence of the huntress boltcaster being mostly used to annoy coworkers & play silly games.
on the subject of the people, how utterly BATSHIT it is that every single corpse has a name & you can theoretically track every single person down. that they all have full names, their own personalities, that you can read emails or listen to audiologs of them interacting w/ each other, asking each other out on dates, arguing, sharing secrets, making plans with friends. and with very few exceptions, you find them all already dead or brainwashed or turned into phantoms. the premise makes me go feral every single time and I canā€™t get enough of it.
the fact that this game in general really rewards you for exploration & also requires it on some level, given that by exploring you can find notes/clues to get into safes or locked computers, or keycards to access other areas of the map.
danielle sho and abigail foy. danielleā€™s last actions being to help you find her loverā€™s killer before she suffocates out in space. need i say more.
ok, this one really makes me go wild. emmanuel mendez. a single audiolog, a single email, in a dangerous room you technically donā€™t even have to go in.Ā
ā€œletā€™s say you discovered something dangerous. something everyone ought to know about.ā€
ā€œiā€™d go out to that billboard and flash it big as vegas on the screen.ā€
again. this is optional. itā€™s not even technically a sidequest. you donā€™t EVER have to do this.
but you can. you can go out into space and fly yourself out to the giant billboards that orbit the station. you can find emmanuelā€™s corpse and the half-finished data he risked his life trying to transfer. you can choose to finish the upload.
ESCAPE PODS ARE FAKE
and for the rest of the game you see that flashing on the billboards every time you look out a window.
a top-of-the-line space station. conducting secret unethical experiments on human prisoners and aliens. and they sabotaged the escape pods.
god this game is good.
