One of the things that's just soooo compelling about Jay and Finlay's YL era is that Finlay is the generational talent, the nepo baby, the one that's supposed to be the more experienced of the two of them with BOSJ under his belt.

And yet, they took one look at Jay's talent and just ran with the story, ran with the story of two friend-rivals where one of them had to watch someone he was close to outclass him relentlessly, constantly, again and again, affectionately even.

#thinking so many thoughts. there's a period of time in march 2016 where finlay's only singles matches are two losses to jay #and in between scattered tags and multimans #and during that time Jay faces kenny in a banger match #like in shoot what a great story what a great idea from both of them and what chill humility on finlay's part #to just go Oh Yeah this is It for us we need to save this story and yes I will lose to you *repeatedly* so we can make good on it later #because jay really was that good!! he was!!!#and is!!#and in kayfabe it's equally compelling because like. tag guy. but also that sharp awareness that being a Singles Guy is the kind of Guy #to be. especially in njpw. his tagging with jay not really going places....augh it's just. yeah #they have amazing chemistry. someday they will fight again #and i'll be glad i did this deep dive #finjay #njpw
