i understand the technical & logical reason behind making everyone pansexual in da4 with the inclusion of nb options for rook, because frankly trying to navigate that discourse of sexuality vs gender would be nearly impossible without stepping on someones toes

but at the same time it's a shame because it does limit or outright negate unique flavors and characterization since i highly doubt there will be any kind of gender flags to be set

like dorian/sera being obvious examples but leliana's much stronger preference towards women or zevran's hesitance towards men, isabela's more touch insecurity with a f!hawke vs a m!hawke, merrill's admiration of a f!hawke, etc.

it wasn't always done the best (ie anders not mentioning being romantic with karl with a f!hawke) but it did add depth and traits to really flesh these characters out in even such a small way and it is a bummer we don't really have that anymore ):
