Hey guys! I'm putting out a call for my commissions again for two big reasons: One, Emergencies have caused me to be low on funds when I wasn't expecting it, and that kind of sucks actually. I am in the process of editing and revising my first Youtube video! This has been an on and off dream of mine for like 7 years at this point, but I've finally taken the plunge and gotten to work on a channel. I wanna talk about all sorts of fandoms (including the riordanverse ofc) With videos ranging from plot and character analysis, to trends in fandom culture in general, to fun little ranking videos and speedpaints. All around, I just want the channel to be a fandom hive, where everyone can find something they enjoy.

I already have PNG's created of my sona to use as assets (And I have a sparkly new sona, the one in the pic above!) and I have two finished scripts, with the first one being fully recorded as well! One for my first video, which will be a retrospective on Gravity Falls, and one for a video about the Percy Jackson TV show, the inherent differences between TV and books as mediums, how I think the TV show could improve, and the things I think it got perfectly. I also have a bunch more ideas, such as:

BIG Trials of Apollo video essay, with a focus on how the books and the fandom have effected me over the years.

Ranking all of my favorite characters from all of the media I've been a fan of over the years (This would be over 70 characters)

Explaining the Iliad, but make it funny (with a side of Troy apologia)

Reading Lore Olympus and pointing out how it deviates from myth (the things I'm willing to do for you people /j)

Canon vs. Fanon, where I compare a characters canon characterization with their fanon counterpart and try to figure out how things turned out the way they did.

And more, but I don't want this post to be 5000 words long.

Now here's the big question. As I said in the part above, I'm struggling a bit now money-wise. And I really wanna make this project work, but there's also, you know. Tuition. Rent. Food. Stupid other adult stuff. So if anyone is amenable (and this is totally up to demand, I don't wanna pressure anyone into doing anything!) I was also thinking of maybe making a Patreon. Now, I'd have to do research for this, bc I wanna make sure anyone who signed up would get the right rewards and really get the bang for their buck. It's at a summer camp because I love summer camps, they're so nostalgic to me even tho I went to a really fancy one and not the dumpster camp Ash is a counselor at lmao

It's her first summer there, and she's working with the rest of the gang (Tay, Tyler, Ben, and Logan). She's a dance instructor hehe, her group of kids are planning a ballet recital for the end of camp party :) But she's pissed off cuz they don't have the funds for anything nice.

Then...for some reason the camps start getting donations from , which is a little weird, but hell, Ash doesn't get paid enough to ask her boss (idk maybe Mr. Thomas) about it. But at the same time, weird shit starts happening; the phones get destroyed, finding bugs in the food supplies, or weird puzzles/messages are left around camp. Ash thinks it's some asshole kid messing around for fun :< One day, all the kids go on a field trip with a diff instructor so Ash and her friends can finally relax!

Then yknow, shit hit the fan when they find Tyler's corpse impaled on the tree. Looks like somebody pushed him, but the owners of the camp cover it up and say it's a freak accident and he just fell :/

Cue the rest of the gang quickly getting picked off in increasingly brutal/bizarre ways (sprayed with chemicals, knives to the face, they even find Logan totally massacred in a bear cave), until...it's just Ash.

Obviously seeing her friends die horribly in the span of like 2 days has done some serious damage to her psyche 💀 She's huddling in a cabin tryna call the police, but every time she tries the phone it's some creep saying how much he likes her breathing. Decides to suck it up and try to escape... *sigh* I'd love to draw a chase scene. Aiden's obsessed with her, he gave the donations since he saw how unhappy she was...and picked off all her friends because you know. Possessive much?

Kind of guy who likes to play with his victims, he does games like "hide and seek" or "where am i gonna stick the knife? :)" Definitely flirts with her as she tries to claw his neck out 🤡

But it's a final girl story, so ofc Ash wins and stabs him >:D Calls the cops using his phone and gets the hell outta dodge. Ofc, when she comes back, all the corpses are still there...except for Aiden *shrug*

(I'm gonna preface this by saying I live in the US, so some of these details will be different for various countries, but hopefully, you'll still get the idea)

When I was able-bodied, I used to go out all the time even though I'm more introverted cuz I just enjoyed exploring new places and revisiting places I liked. Nowadays, I rarely go out on my own and when I go out with others, I have to make sure they're willing to deal with how slow I am and using disability seating, taking breaks frequently, etc. You just find yourself not even bothering to go out much because you know it's irritating for the other person even if they're patient with you.

I also used to exercise 6 days a week and was consistently half the weight I am now. Most of my clothes no longer fit and I am left with only a few shirts and pants to go out with because whenever we do have money to invest in clothes I have to put it towards more pajamas for around the house since regular clothes can irritate my skin and be harder to move around in compared to loose pajamas. I also used to clean my entire home once a week and meal prep twice a week. I now can't stand up or bend over as much as I need to do those tasks, especially that often.

I wasn't able to do my job and had to leave it and attempt for Social Security. It has been years and I'm still trying for it, but while trying for it, you're not allowed to have income over a certain amount each month to even be considered so you're not allowed to really work enough to pay for things during that time because that 'proves' you're not disabled. But they do not supply any funds during the time they are working on your case, so you have to somehow pay rent and bills (especially medical ones) without a proper job. Oh, and you may or may not qualify for reduced cost health insurance so you could end up having to pay hundreds of dollars a month towards health insurance, medical bills, and prescriptions. And I'm talking hundreds of dollars per category there, not altogether. And you somehow have to manage rent and utilities on top of that and my 'wife' (quotations are there for a reason I'll get to later) can only pay for so much of that and my disabilities slow me down on the one thing I can still manage to do: art commissions. And I make a lot less from that than I did at a 'real' job and actually have to dedicate more of my time to it because I have to constantly be drawing if able. On top of that, a freelance artist has to also try to constantly boost their stuff, manage orders, keep customer service mode on constantly, trying to keep clients updated as they go along, trying to draw pieces to the side that could get more eyes on their work to bring in more customers, figuring out how merchandise is made and ordered, getting samples from different companies to do quality testing which takes money they haven't yet earned to try and invest in what they hope will make more money later, figuring out how to sell their skills and advertise them in ways that get people's attention, and that doesn't even cover everything. I am technically working MORE than I was before for about half the pay. Don't you think I'd rather just have a job that I can clock in to and clock out each day so I can properly relax when I'm home? Instead, I never get the chance to fully properly turn customer service mode off.

Sure, I love drawing, but I miss drawing just for fun instead of it being my job and me having next to no time to draw things for myself. I'm a slow artist and add my chronic pain on top of that and I can't even work at my fastest since I'm constantly having to take breaks to deal with my arm, hand, and back pain throughout, which doubles that turnaround time. Let's not even go into how chronic fatigue can make me literally too tired to even manage to stay awake long enough to get things done, too. It's maddening tbh.

Oh, and those quotation marks before? Yeah, you're not allowed to be legally married (at least in the US) and get Disability pay. You have to choose one or the other. So my 'wife?' I can't risk getting legally married to her while I'm trying to get disability or else I'm automatically disqualified. Yep, that means we don't actually have marriage equality! I spent most of my life thinking I'd never get married because I was LGBTQ+ and once I finally had the right in that category, I had to worry about Disability shortly after. I have accepted I'm not allowed to get married by this point, but it's absolutely depressing, especially knowing we could save so much money right now if we could both be on my fiancée's health insurance.

Being limited to mostly staying at home is not as awesome as people think. Your entertainment options between watching things and playing games may be pretty expansive but you get tired of being cooped up and not getting out as often because lived experiences are entirely different to watching others live out those experiences for you. I always dreamt of one day going to Disney when I could manage the funds and time off for it, but I never did. And I never got to go as a kid. And now I have to worry about if I could even manage to have fun with all of the pain I'd get with all the walking I'd have to do because walking or standing that much even with a cane sounds like torture. I may never get to go now. And that's just one dream bucket list experience that I will never properly have and may never even get close to having.

And let's not even get into how it's so much harder to maintain exercise and diet when moving hurts like hell and is sometimes impossible and cooking is a lot harder to do so you end up with health problems you never would've dealt with before when you were able-bodied and they just keep piling up on each other over time so you can actually get even worse and you constantly have to worry about what regular daily task you may be unable to do next.

I also wanted to be a doctor if art wouldn't pan out and eventually felt I'd be fine with that being my main job and art staying a hobby. But I couldn't keep up with university when my problems started developing. And now my hands are too shaky from all the meds and such I've had to do over the years just to stay awake, so performing surgery is out of the question. Even then, I wanted to be a psychiatrist/therapist because I love helping people and trying to analyze how they think and figure out what might help. But to get the schooling on top of everything else is impossible for me right now and might be for the rest of my life. And you can tell people that you're disabled but because most people don't have a proper idea of how that is like, they will still constantly think you're just being lazy when you haven't bettered your life yet, as if that is something you can control. They set the system up for you to fail and/or give up, and the world is set up for the able-bodied. Just navigating everything and adjusting when you need to is a struggle in and of itself, but things seem to want to mess you up at every turn. You know how those who are left-handed will talk about how most things in the world are made for those who are right-handed by default? And they either have to figure out how to make being left-handed work with those things or they may end up forced to train their right hand enough to act as the dominant one despite the fact that it isn't. Being disabled is like that but to a larger degree because those who are left-handed are at least generally thought about when people produce things that involve your hands, but most people don't think about your disabilities because they simply don't realize they need to think about it when creating/inventing things.

Because of this, most of us have to figure out aids to buy and use around the house just to do normal tasks. For example, I have to use a shower chair because I can't stand long enough for a full shower and moving around in a shower is hard as well. I couldn't just get a chair to put in there, though, cuz most regular chairs can't withstand water exposure. I also couldn't just buy any shower chair, but one that would fit into my tub, work best with my issues, be big enough to fully support me and be able to withstand my weight. I have had to try and find things to help me do regular daily tasks like that around the house and then have to wait till I have enough funds to afford them and even then those tasks will take so long to do and take so much out of me that I haven't figured out a way to even do a tenth of the stuff I used to be able to. So things end up piling up until someone can help me catch up. And the research to figure out this stuff and find things takes a lot longer than you'd think because you have to try to fit a puzzle piece that doesn't fully fit since it's very rare for a disability aid to be made specifically for which things are limiting the function you're trying to accommodate.

Basically, being disabled is not fun and implying that we are 'living the life' just cuz maybe we can keep up with a show or something better is incredibly insulting.

Able-bodied people usually see home as a place to relax and wind down.

Disabled people usually see home as a cage with a TV.

Fuck you if when a disabled person says their unemployed and stuck at home you say "that's the life hey?" IT'S NOT ITS FUCKING TORTURE

Why are people into SM? I don't allow kink shaming on my blog Anon2, just so you know.

SME is respected by some people in spite of everything, because SME knows how to find and develop talent (the company also receives the most in government funding so I'd be surprised if they didn't), and is one agency that well executes delivering a fully immersive 'k-pop' experience. The company also knows how to make good music (despite what some of their most popular tracks suggest), but SME is also constantly handicapped by its limited expression of artist creativity. In my opinion.

SME is the longest running k-pop agency, and the genre is literally oversaturated with their music. I'm not sure how many people know this, but Lee Sooman started out as a singer and one Korean band I remember seeing in my home as a kid was Masamtrio, a k-pop band he belonged to. I'm mentioning this because Lee sooman (SM Entertainment literally stands for SooMan Entertainment) has historically strongly controlled everything that goes on in that agency, including how formulaic his artists sound (*cough* Yoo Young-jin *sneeze*), and consequently why much of k-pop is the way it is today. SooMan is a singer and a self-professed 'method' man, and if you've been reading my blog for some time now, you've probably seen me mention how many k-pop vocalists sing in a particular way that I've grown very bored of.

My views do contrast with the mainline k-pop thinking that puts SM artists as the height of innovation, citing groups like Aespa for example because the group includes AI members and is set in the Kwangya metaverse...

Do the AI girls actually do anything? No. Can anybody actually explain what Kwangya is? No. Do any of the (human) Aespa girls regularly contribute to composing, songwriting, dance, anything? No. But boy do those girls give you attitude, down to how they enunciate "level" in Next Level. It looks and sounds cool and that's enough for some people.

So I guess that sets the tone for the rest of this post. Lol.

SM has a formula that works, though it hardly ever includes direct input from the idols themselves. The company sticks to certain themes and the artists are trained to present in certain ways, and that's why the company is able to build a stable following of fans. Long story short, SM specializes in producing performance artists, so if you're all about performance art and don't care for much else, SM has got you more than covered.

But the thing for me with SM, is that after a while the company became predictable in what it churned out, in the sort of idols and music it produced. And I think anyone who has been into k-pop for a while will tell you the same thing. For example, when talking about 'idol typecasts', generally speaking here:

Taemin + Kai = Ten

BoA + Yuri = Seulgi

I could list a few more but I don't want to piss off their stans reading this more than I've already done at this point, and anyway I think you get the gist.

In terms of music, the sound of this company is decidedly Black. Like Black in the way that they hardly ever try to change up the sound at all (and I'll explain a bit more below). For a group like NCT for example: their sound is essentially trap music + hyper-pop + contemporary R&B, with musical motifs literally lifted off classic Black artists (who aren't always credited). An example:

Take 7th Sense by NCT U. In my opinion, the whole song sounds 'inspired' by Me & U by Cassie. Listen to timestamp 0:35 - 0:44 in 7th Sense.

Now compare it to 0:35 - 0:50 in Cassie's song.

Like I can't be the only person who hears it's the same song just pitched lower, slowed down, and punctuated with rap verses...

All of k-pop borrows heavily from Black music and Black creators, but no agency does so more than SME in my opinion.

All this said, there are some groups/songs I like:

NCT. Specifically NCT 127 and NCT U though the other units are alright too. The sort of hiphop NCT produces is a synthetic analogue to actual hip hop (which is closer to what BTS produces) but it's recognizable and similar enough to the hip hop I listen to. The syntheticness of their sound is likely the result of certain SooMan disciples in the company (again *cough* Yoo Young-jin *sneeze*) remixing and sometimes bastardizing the work of Black songwriters and producers. By this I mean, many SM songs are made by hosting blind camps to source music directly from Black creators (though those creators are not always paid fairly), and then that music is given to the lead producers in SM who often do the final arrangements. Most times the result is that trademark Frankenstein noise music, but sometimes it actually works.

Some songs I like: 7th Sense, Limitless, OK, Simon Says.

I like that some members in NCT contribute by sometimes writing their rap verses, but I'll be honest, NCT's lyrics annoy me often and there's also the thing of SM SMing the heck out of the bridge like ... why the fuck does this company stuff into a song as many randomized modulations as possible? It rarely works, most times it's a poorly timed distraction. But anyway that's not a ding on only NCT - every SM group has this flaw. Like they'd be better off letting more of their artists write their own music. IMO. There's also a reliability tiff I have with the group - their genuine bops are few and far in between. Like I can't stand 2 Baddies. Again IMO.

Another group I like is Red Velvet and see above for my talking points on the group. One thing I'll add is I'm less into their 'Red' sound, and more into their 'Velvet' songs, and again see above for reasons why. i.e. their Velvet sound is very Black R&B with almost nothing done to change it up from the Black classics the songs appear to be inspired by (based on my hearing at least), and so as that's a genre I recognize immediately and like in any case, it's easy for me to take to their Velvet concept songs.

Some songs I like: La Rouge, Automatic, Wildside, One of These Nights.

Like I said, the company knows how to develop talent and make good music, and many idols under their management are undeniably talented, some I'd even call artists. I've been thinking. I want to create beautiful hand bound journals with handmade decorative covers (lace or embroidery are my main ideas at the moment) but I only need so many journals. And I'd rather not sell them both because it complicates my disability benefits (they take away half of what you make three months after the fact. So say I make $100 in February, in May I get $50 taken out of my benefits. A problem if I don't sell anything in May) and because I just don't find that to be worth it if I'm truly doing all this by hand and sinking dozens of hours into it and everything. I don't believe in selling handmade items for less than their worth in hours worked and nobody is gonna buy a $100 journal, even if it is a hand made cover.

So! I was thinking! There's a queer community center in my city. They help fund name changes (which costs about $200 here) and give $200 grants for gender affirming clothing. I got help getting masc clothes from them. So what if. I give the journals away in exchange for donations to the community center? I don't have to think of my work as devalued cuz it's for charity and I therefore can't put a price on it.
